The Hospital
Sorry, this chapter's going to be shorter, probably the shortest chapter in the book (don't count the second one, that wasn't a part of the plot). I have a lot to do for school and I'm still not feeling 100% better. But anyways, here's the update!
"Why didn't Caleb say what was in the punch?" You snarled angrily as you curled your fingers to form fists at your side. You've been waiting for any kind of news about Mark for about an hour. It was already 8:57. Probably as a joke." Cassie assured me. "If he knew, he wouldn't of done that." "Still," you paused to gulp down more water to try to shake off the affects of the alcohol. Your vision had gone back to normal and when you talked, you talked slowly but clearly. Mark was rushed into the emergency room and whatever was happening to him was very serious. "How did you know that Mark couldn't have alcohol?" Cassie shifted uncomfortably in her white plastic chair in the waiting room. "I watch his videos on YouTube, and on one of them he said that he couldn't have alcohol 'cause it could actually...kill him." You replied. "Okay, we gave him some medication and gave him some painkillers, but right now he's still unconscious. His condition is still kind of uncertain." The doctor led us into his room. You readied yourself for the worst as you walked through the doorway. It felt like someone had punched you in the chest when you saw Mark. He had IV tubes hooked on his arms, giving him some kind of medication with water, and he had a respirator over his mouth to help him breath. The plastic on the mask fogged up when Mark exhaled., then disappeared when he inhaled. His glasses had been removed and set to the side on a white bedside table. It reminded you of the last time Mark had to go to the hospital when he had an infection in his intestines and had to have surgery. Only forty-eight hours later, he began running around again, shouting "I'm king of the squirrels!", you remembered with a small sad smile. You stifled the sudden flood of tears that welled up in your eyes and threatened to fall, but didn't. "C'mon, you've been through so much...this isn't any different." You sniffle as you knelt by his hospital bed, the guilt you felt almost overwhelming you. "You didn't deserve this. Then again, no one really deserves anything bad whenever it happens, no matter how bad the person." You whisper with a quiet chuckle. Cassie stood respectively in the corner of the room, remaining silent, but still keeping her eyes fixed on you. I've been with you since you made that Amnesia compilation on your Markiplier Games channel...it feels like it's been forever since then. You've changed so much from then physically and emotionally. Don't quit doing all of the good you've been doing now, so many people care about you....I care about you. You wanted to say those words aloud, but you didn't want to make your friend or yourself uncomfortable. At last, the tears you tried so hard to keep from shedding streamed down your face like a waterfall, landing on Mark's crisp white bed sheets, leaving small wet dots peppering the edge of the sheets. You left a single blue rose that you bought from the hospital gift shop by his glasses on the table with a note saying that you hoped that he recovered quickly. "Ma'am, you need to leave, visiting hours are over." A nurse peeked her head in through the doorway and casted me a sympathetic smile. Reluctantly, I got up off of my knees and followed the nurse out of the room with Cassie close behind. "I'll be back." You promise him as you leave the hospital with Cassie. She said nothing as she drove you back to your car. As you drove home, you played Markiplier's Space Is Cool song on your phone. You sang along with the song the entire time until you got home. When you got home, you fed Mayhem, played with him for a bit, then went into your bedroom to sleep without even changing clothes, taking off your makeup or shoes. You tossed and turned, but you couldn't stop worrying about Mark. You sighed as you gave up trying to sleep and instead watched some of Mark's older videos until you fell asleep.
