For about a week, you were stuck in bed with an uncomfortable metal cast bound around your ankle. Each day Tenebris came in and visited you to check on your ankle, or to make sure you didn't escape, only reminding you of the people you failed. But, one day things changed. He came in again like he always did, but you noticed that his eyes weren't black like they usually were. Instead, they were Mark's eye color. Hope sparked inside you, but then you remembered that he could disguise his eyes and he was probably doing it to torture you further. But then he softly whispered your name in your ear. "(Y/N), I'm so sorry." He gently caressed the cast. "M-Mark?" You stuttered, wondering if Tenebris was still trying to trick you. If he was, he certainly was convincing. "Look, I can't fight him off for long, but I'll get you out of here. You'll go home soon." He promised. You noticed that he didn't mention him going with you. He suddenly grimaced in pain, clutching his head as his eyes flickered from brown to black. "I-I'm sorry." He repeated as he stumbled out of the room, leaving you stunned. Did that mean that Samantha was possibly alive too? And did Mark forget about Cassie already? You were still painfully aware of her absence. You didn't think he'd forget, but then again you didn't expect him to become possessed by an alien. He began thinking of all of the possibilities of where Cassie would be. You had thoroughly searched the rocket when it crashed, and if she was still there then the Armaine would have seen her. You wondered if she ended up like Caleb, falling out of the rocket, but didn't survive the fall. The second theory was the most probable. You shook your head to dispell the thoughts when Malum walked through the door grinning, making you shiver. It was disconcerting to see a friend you had spent so much time with become something they weren't. "Let's check up our little patient." She removed the metal cast. The ankle was healed. You never wished as hard as you did then that it was broken again, at least until you escaped somehow. "Excellent." She rubbed her hands together. "I know someone who would make a perfect roommate." She unfastened the restraints that bound you to the bed, forcing your hands behind your back at an uncomfortable angle, holding them to make sure you wouldn't run away as she escorted you down the gleaming black hallway and into a crimson red room lined with black. Inside was a black shadowy figure with no eyes or mouth. It was like looking at a black Slender Man. "Meet your new friend Umbra." I watched in fear as it rose off of the bed it was sitting on and turned towards you. "I can see why you guys want hosts." You murmured. You felt pain explode in the back of your head. Malum had hit you, nearly making you fall over from the unexpected force. "Hold still." Malum commanded. "Mark!" You called out, praying he would do something. He was nowhere in sight. You closed your eyes tightly, waiting for whatever was supposed to happen to just be over with. When you opened you eyes again, you were staring into Mark's smiling face. "Let's get you home." "What about you?" You stopped him as he began leading through the endless maze of hallways. "I can't go (Y/N), not with him." He tapped a finger to his forehead. "We'll figure something out just please come with me!" You begged. "As I said before, I would love every struggle and terrible experience that kit may be, with certain death on the horizon-" "Just for a chance to going to space." You finished the lyrics tearfully. "Although, I would have to change the lyrics." "Why?" You wondered if he thought space wasn't worth it anymore. "Because I loved every struggle and terrible experience that it was and wasn't just to be with you." You stood in silence, dumbstruck. That was him that said that he loved you when you were locked in a room alone with him, not Tenebris. Hearing the words from Mark's mouth just confirmed your suspicions. "The best I can do is take you to the rocket so you can take it." He sighed as he continued walking faster down the hallway with you in tow, still replaying Mark's words in your head. It wasn't long before Malum and the others found out where you were, running to catch up. But Mark ran faster, fueled by determination. He had scooped you up in his arms bridal style and was carrying you, lashing out at Araime that got to close. Finally you reached the rocket entrance, which was a giant metal door with a glowing blue number pad. Mark typed in a code, causing the door to creak and swing open. "I'm sorry." He apologized one last time as he turned to leave. "Me too." You whispered as you slammed his head into the door with enough force to knock him out. You caught him before he hit the ground and dragged him inside, carefully draped him in the co-pilot seat, buckling him up with metal seatbelts that retracted from the black seats. You sank frown into the pilot seat, sweat beading your face. There were billions of glowing buttons, and you had no idea which one to press. Hearing the Araime outside the door filled you with determination as you began randomly pressing buttons, starting with a blue one. From the side, a laser turret popped out and fired a few blasts, sending bunch of the Araime flying. You then pressed a green button that seemingly did nothing, until you noticed that a smaller ship in the back activated. You decided to save that button for later as you flicked a little gray switch. Finally the ship soared up, crashing through the base's ceiling. You whooped with triumph as you glanced down one last time at the Araime, glad to leave them behind. Mark began stirring beside you as the ship rocketed through the atmosphere. He mumbled something incoherent under his breath as he slowly sat up, rubbing the back of his head and grimacing in pain. "(Y/N)?" He turned to face you, betrayal evident on his face. "I told you that I couldn't-" "I'm an American, not an American't!" You retorted. "By the way, how did you save me so fast?" You added. "Araime can teleport." He explained simply, obviously still irritated that you had taken him with you. You opened your mouth to say more, but froze when you noticed Mark's eyes flickering again. "Mark." You warned, pointing at his eyes. He got the hint. He quickly unfastened his seat belt and scrambled out of his seat. "Where are you going?" You called after him. He didn't answer. Instead, he went into the back and began breathing deeply, eyes squeezed shut as he paced back and forth. You remained quiet, watching him begin to relax slowly and surely. Eventually he stopped and opened his eyes to look at you. They were back to normal. You released a breath you didn't even realize you were holding in as you both went back to the cockpit. "Thanks." Mark sighed as he flopped into his seat, looking exhausted. "Get some sleep, I'll fly for a while." You instructed as his eyes began drifting shut. "Uh huh." He mumbled as he leaned back in his seat, falling asleep instantly. You smirked as he began lightly snoring. "Who's the hero now?" You said softly to yourself as you controlled the ship through space, stars flying by like white streaks of light.
