It was a lovely evening by the park. We sat on the fresh grass admiring the sunset. His arms wrapped around me, holding me close to him. I slid my fingers into his and entwined, resting my head on his chiseled chest.

"Mike, I don't wish to let go of you. Why is it so hard for people to accept us?" I said, tears brimming my eyes.

"I love you, Blake but I'm worried," Mike expressed.

"Listen, why don't we talk to our family and make things happen? I wish to marry you and live my life to the fullest," I proposed.

"But..."

"Let's give our best. Just imagine, how wonderful would it be when our families agree," I shot up excited.

"Fine. Let's go," sighed Mike.

We hugged each other and parted our ways with heavy hearts. Neither of us knew that it was our last moment together. If I had known something like this would happen, I'd have never dared to suggest the stupid thought. I'd have stayed happy with our secret meetings.

I expressed my love for Mike to my family that night and so did he. They were devastated when they heard the harsh truth about us, more importantly about me. Even before they could come out of the situation, we received a call from Mike's parents. There was a heated argument and gradually both ends went silent. My dad nodded as if agreeing to what they had suggested. For a moment, I thought they had accepted us. Alas! I wish I knew how wrong I was!

'Word has spread fast. Villagers have gathered in front of our home' I received a text from Mike. It was no surprise when the news spread like wildfire. It was a very small village and everyone knew each other so well. People were orthodox and were against the notion of someone like us.

Just then I received another text 'No longer safe here. Meet me at the cemetery in 10.'

Horrified I looked at my parents. They were sad but it looked like they had decided on something vicious. I slowly sneaked my way out and rushed to the cemetery. Mike scurried to me, out of breath. He held my hands and we both ran as fast as our legs could carry.

'We are going to the city. I've reached out to our community and they'll protect us there,' Mike told between the bated breath.

Halfway through in the darkness, we heard the yelling crowd chasing after us, determined to kill us. We almost neared the border, when a huge stick struck our heads. We dropped to the ground, bleeding. Numerous thrashes came one after the other. And now the small group of four had become a huge crowd.

"I love you, Blake, forever," Mike dropped dead, uttering his final words. Right at that moment, I felt a sharp metal piercing through me.

I realized, what honor killing and gay love meant to society, before breathing my final breath.
