Burn
Eat....
Feed.....
Thirsty......
"Ugh....it hurts..."
The primal chanting crescendos from deep inside of Jungkook's unaged mind. It torments his psyche and burns in his throat and nostrils with every measured breath he takes.
He hated when he allowed it to get this bad. Normally he could stave off his urges by sipping on the rations he kept stashed at the back of his fridge. It had been a while since he'd spoken to his connect from the blood bank.
Dealing O-neg on the side was risky enough when knowledge of vampires existing was uncommon. So Jungkook had to get in where he would fit in and make do.
Neon lights flashed through his window, casting a fluorescent red glow over his pristine tattooed skin as he stepped towards it.
Barefoot and shirtless, Jungkook squinted as he approached the rain-speckled glass in his black sweats. His bleached dyed hair laid messily over his head and the silver piercings on his face glint in the flashing lights and reflection.
He separates the thick curtain carefully with his finger and gazes down at the bustling crowd of city dwellers below.
The weekend was the worst. Too many smells and sounds to drown out. So many fresh bodies to be claimed. The rain didnt help, only enchancing every scent as they wafted through the air and straight into his vents. It was a wonder he'd developed such restraint to keep from feasting on some one new every night.
In a city as big as this, no one would notice. People went missing more often than they should but the police couldnt keep up with it even if they tried.
A vampires paradise.
Years of blending in and maintaining a residence here had been easy and for his thirsts sake, he was thankful.
His lonesome life now had one sole purpose.
Well two.
Blood and anonymity.
But mostly blood.
Thirsty...
Eat......
"I know.." he says to himself as he remained in front of the window.
His apartment was only a few floors up from the ground, making it especially easy for his enhanced eyes to detect every face and detail of the people shuffling below.
All of them living mundane lives that he was sure they took for granted. Half of them probably dont even stop to consider how easily their circumstances could change.
One missed step from the curb.
One second too late in the middle of the street.
One wrong turn down a dark alley.
One fatal encounter with a beautiful stranger with a blood lust.
So easy.
Too easy...
Feed...
Eat......
He had better find sustenance soon or else it wouldnt be good for anyone in this unsuspecting city.
He hated killing. He hated the act of sinking his fangs into flesh and the way his eyes rolled back at the salty sweetness of his victim's life flowing into him. It was a vile lifestyle that he wouldn't wish on anyone.
And yet here he still was.
He sighs bitterly as he turned away from the busy sidewalks and faces the darkness of his lair. His body tenses when the harsh voice of his thirst taunts him some more.
Eat.....
feed....
thirsty...
"I know I know! Shut up already!" he mutters outloud. Thankful nothing but bricked walls of his apartment registered and echoed his response, Jungkook stalks over the hardwood floors towards his kitchen and yanks back the refrigerator door.
The white light beams offensively as his eyes scanned the shelves as if they were full. The only things blocking his view of the single blood bag were the chilled bottles of beer and wine. The rouge tint of the liquid makes him snort humorlessly for some reason as he pushed it aside to grab what his body truly craved.
He stands upright to examine the quality of the remaining blood in the 350 mL bag. Barely half full and from the color, it had most likely surpassed its shelf life.
Feed...
Feeeeed...
Jungkook's throat burned as the thirst begged to be quenched. He didnt have time to assess the quality any further. He needed to feed and he needed to feed now.
He doesnt bother with the tubes and he aggressively tears into the port to puncture it with his teeth. He inhales through his nose sharply as the first whiff of blood invades his nostrils, making his autonomous responses go into action.
His pupils dilate and his irises blacken.
His dark dormant veins rise beneath his skin around his eyes and neck as he squeezed the pouch, pushing the blood up so that he can suck it quickly into his mouth.
His mouth watered, dripping with venom in response to the blood and his gums surrounding his canines ached as he squeezed all that there was to be savored into his mouth.
The shriveled bag hits the floor and Jungkook pants feverishly as he shut his eyes tightly. He stumbles back until he meets the counter's edge adjacent to the fridge as he grimaced in anticipation.
This was one of the many downsides of drinking preserved blood. His body didn't care for it, logically preferring it fresh from the source.
Cold blood tasted different. Tasted wrong. It barely held any life in it, which defeated the whole purpose of consuming it.
Jungkook's stomach churned and the burning ache in his throat dulls for few seconds. Only for it to return with a vengeance as if something inside of him was angry for being disrespected by this pitiful offering.
Dead blood....
Ugh...
A muffled growl unfurls in his chest as he kicked the bag across the floor in disgust.
This would not do.
He most definitely shouldn't have waited this long. The burn only intensified as the seconds passed. Along with the thousands of pulses surrounding him in this clouded city, the irritation grew.
He glances over at the digital clock on the microwave.
7 hours until sunrise.
Plenty of time.....
Go...
Hunt...
Eat...
Feed.....
Jungkook winced as he swallowed, lowering his head in surrender to his instincts. Hundreds of voices and heartbeats spun around in his mind as he honed in on them, some more distinct than others.
A man and woman arguing. A teenager raging on his video game. A mother consoling her crying baby. Not to mention the screeching of tires and car horns outside. The pitter-patter of weighted footsteps over the damp concrete.
So much noise.
Too much noise.
It was overwhelming him and he felt like he was trapped in the middle of a wind tunnel. He needed to get out of his building before he lost what little bit of control he had left.
Music from far away makes him lift his head slowly. Its muffled and distorted but a clear beat pulls him from the kitchen. Jungkook drags his feet over the floor to stand before his window once more, this time placing the palm of his hand to the cold glass.
Something was calling him. Far off and hidden in the fog and lights of the night, the end to Jungkook's temporary suffering awaited his arrival.
All he had to do was go find it and take it. It should be easy. He'd done it enough times.
He could make it quick.
A clean kill.
Then the burning would stop.
FEED
Jungkook pressed his forehead to the window and shuts his eyes.
FEED
FEED
FEED
FEED
FEED
FEED
The thirst grew warry with the final plea and Jungkook knew it would be pointless to continue ignoring it. His breath fogs the glass as he exhaled sharply through his nose.
"Fine......"
