Chapter 38
Previously, on Love bite.
Knowing Elliot, it will only take a second to get his reply.
"The pack hospital? Sweet, I'm in."
See. Elliot loves going to the pack hospital. as long as he's not the one being treated that is.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Now Sophie's P.O.V
Walking into the pack hospital, Elliot and I walk back, and I start scanning around for my aunt.
On the way here, Elliot asked me what was wrong with Luka, feeling the restlessness on the end of his connection. I told him, I didn't know, and the only thing I did know was it is something really bad or it's something he doesn't want us to find out about.
Spotting my aunt at the nurse's station finishing up some paperwork, we start to walk over towards her.
My aunt looks up towards us and smiles.
"Good morning Little Sophie, Elliot," she says happily in greeting.
I return her greeting with a smile of my own.
"Good morning Aunt Sherry, how are you doing?"
"I'm a little tired from working all night, but other than that, I'm doing okay." "What about Shelby, how's Ace doing this morning?"
"Doing good, he's doing better than he was yesterday, and he even ate his breakfast this morning."
Aunt Sherry's face lights up a bit.
"That's wonderful news."
I look towards Elliot for a moment before looking back towards her.
"Elliot and I were hoping to check up on the wounded today, is that doable?"
My aunt nods to the both of us.
"Yes, you may, none of them are too injured," she informs.
"And Asher, which room is he in?"
"He's up in the pediatric ward. Just ask the nurse at the desk, she'll tell you where to go."
I give her a nod.
"Great, thanks, Aunt Sherry."
"Yes, thank you, Doctor Sherry," Elliot says, kindly shaking my aunt's hand.
Elliot and I start to walk away, but at the last moment I remember Shelby's request and turn back.
"Oh, before I forget Aunt Sherry, Shelby wants you. She wants to try and get Ace in the tub this evening, and she wants you to be there to help her."
"Okay Sophie, I will when I'm on break this evening.
"Well alright, thanks again, Aunt Sherry.
She flashes me a motherly smile.
"Anytime Little Sophie, anytime."
Elliot and I turn on our heels and head towards the hospital elevators. After I select a floor and the doors close, Elliot turns towards me and asks.
"So how old was Asher when he shifted?"
"Nine," I reply.
"Nine?" Elliot repeats, sounding stunned.
I give him a nod.
"We're sure are getting a lot of early shifters."
"Uh-huh," is my only reply.
Elliot gets in real close and whispers.
"It might be a snowball effect, Sophie, do you think something big is coming?"
"I believe so."
"What do you think it is Sophie?"
"That I don't know Elliot," I softly reply as the doors to the elevator open.
Upon exiting onto the floor, Elliot and I make a quick stop at the desk. The nurse sitting at the desk gives us directions to Asher's room, though I'm a little concerned. Her parting words to us were. "Try not to get too soaked."
Even now as we walk up the hallway towards the room in question, my mind wonders over those last words.
What did the nurse mean by telling us that?
Grabbing the handle of the door, I push down, starting to enter the room. Before I have time to prepare myself or even get my head through the door, a fast stream of water flies across the room and hits me through the crack.
Nice shot kid.
From behind me, I hear Elliot mutter.
"I should've known."
Another smaller shot of water hits me just as I'm about to poke my head around the doorframe, this time right in the face.
"I'm well-armed, and I'm not afraid to use more," says a small voice from behind the door.
Taking caution, I slowly stick my hands around the frame of the door and make the universal, ''Timeout,'' motion.
"Come on Asher, we're not here to poke and stick you with stuff like the others are, we're just here visiting," Says Elliot calmly from behind me
We wait a moment.
"We can go in there now, he's got his, ''weapon,'' put away safely."
"How would you know?" I ask him.
Elliot puts a finger to his head and replies simply.
"Omega connection, remember?"
"Oh, right."
Very slowly I swing the door open to the site of a plain hospital room, we walk in to find a blonde haired brown eyed boy laying on the bed.
His stomach's wrapped in bandages from the chest down, I can tell that just by looking at the ruffling of the blankets. One of his hands is also in a soft splint, making it five times as big as it should be.
At least his hand is not injured bad enough that he needed to get it fully casted, that's a good thing.
At the side of his good hand, rests two syringes. One is about three-quarters of the way full, but the other is all the way full of water.
He was using the syringes as squirt guns, how cute and clever at the same time.
"Nice sharp shooting shooter, looks like you got her both times," Elliot tells him, walking in behind me
The kid I'm guessing must be Asher gets a wide smile on his face, so wide that I can see his dimples
"I thought that was you, Elliot, I could hear your voice as well as smell your scent from outside the door. How are you doing?"
"Pretty good," he replies. "But look at you. Oh, my goodness, you've gotten so big in such a small amount of time. I remember the last time I saw you, you were small enough to pick up, now look at you."
"Hey Elliot, guess what?"
"What?" Elliot replies expectantly.
"I've shifted into my wolfie," Asher tells him, excited.
Elliot smiles at him.
"I know, that's what my friend Sophie told me. Wow at just nine years old, you're so lucky. Oh, and speaking of which." He turns his attention towards me. "Asher, this is my friend Miss Sophie, can you say hi to her?"
Slowly, I hold my hand out to him.
"My name is Alpha Sophie, but you can just call me Sophie. I'm a close friend of Ace's."
Asher reaches out with all his might and shakes my hand, then at the mention of his Alpha's name, Asher's eyes fill with worry and he looks up at me.
"Ace, my adopted brother, is he okay?"
I give him I nod.
"Yes, he is okay, just a bit weak right now. He's at my house recovering?"
"Did he find the lady he was looking for?"
I smile at him.
"Yes, he did, she's at my house helping him to recover.
"Oh, that's a relief, so he won't be mean anymore?
I shake my head at his question.
"Nope, he's pretty much back to normal."
"That's good to hear," Asher says, getting a smile on his face. Stopping to think about his next words, Asher continues. "So, if you're the Alpha, does that mean you can get me out of Hospital?"
Covering my mouth to mute the burst of laughter that almost comes out, I take a moment to compose myself. After I make sure I can make it through without laughing, I uncover my mouth and speak.
"So, I take it you don't like hospitals and doctors very much, do you?
"He looks down at his side, motioning to the two syringes.
"Why do you think I have these two squirt guns at my side. I'm terrified of hospitals, and the pack doctors and nurses want to stick me with stuff nine times out of ten. So, I have to defend myself."
"Heard that. I don't like going to the pack Hospital ether," Elliot pipes up.
I shake my head.
"No. I can't get you out of this Hospital, you have to stay here until your wounds and wrist heal up."
Asher's face changes in an instant, he now has tears in his eyes and his lower lip is quivering slightly.
"Come on Sophie, I'm begging you. This place scares me, at night, it feels like the walls are closing in on me and I can't breathe, I hear loud voices at night, I can't sleep, and I always have bad butterflies in my chest. I'll do anything, Sophie. Please, just get me out of here. I don't want to be stuck anymore."
Hearing this, I zone out for a moment.
Interesting. I wonder, would a healer environment be better for him in this situation? Well, it couldn't hurt to try, right?
Letting out a sigh, I look at Asher.
"Okay Asher, I'm going to try and make arrangements for you to stay somewhere else, somewhere that might make you feel more comfortable, but, I'm not making any promises."
Asher lets out a breath, tears still rolling down his cheeks
"Thank you, Sophie. Please, just do what you can."
"Will do." Turning to look at Elliot, I let out a sigh. "Alright, well, I'm going to go on and check on Some of my other pack members, but I'll try to say goodbye to you before I leave if I can."
Asher gives me an understanding nod.
Elliot, you coming?" I ask, turning to face him again.
"Actually Sophie, I think I'm going to stay a bit longer with Asher, just in case something happens. I'll meet up with you later."
I give a nod myself.
"Very well you two, I'm off."
"Bye Sophie," they both call after me as I start to walk out the door.
Once I'm clear of Asher's room, I get back on the Elevator and connect the link to my aunt.
She picks up a few seconds later.
"What is it, Sophie?"
"Alpha's orders okay, listen up. I don't mean to sound rude, but I think I know why Asher's spraying the doctors and nurses with water every time they try to come in."
"Okay, spill it. Why?"
"He doesn't like hospitals, he's petrified."
My aunt's connection floods with understanding. So much so, I can picture her smiling on the other end.
"Well then, what do you suggest Sophie?"
"In this situation, I actually think a healer environment would be better suited for him than a hospital setting would be. Would you link Suzie q and see if she can get Asher transferred to the Healer Hut please?"
"I guess this means after tonight, I won't be asking your Uncle to bring me a spare uniform every time I go up and see that Little Pup," my aunt replies ignoring my question.
"I guess so, now getting back on topic. Can you do it, Aunt Sherry?" I ask her again.
"Of course, I can Honey, I'll get right on it."
"Thanks so much. Okay, I've got to go now. Bye."
"Bye little Sophie, I love you and give Luka my love when you get back home."
"Aw. Thanks, Aunt Sherry, I love you and Uncle too, and I will."
I disconnect the link as the elevator stops on my desired floor.

"Come in," a calm but painful voice says to me as I knock.
I let out a slight sigh, pulling down on the door handle and walk into Lorenzo's room
As I get closer, I find Lorenzo in human form, sitting up in his hospital bed, looking out the window. One side of his face covered in bandages, protecting the stitches that I'm sure hide underneath.
"Good Morning, I'm Alpha Sophie," I introduce, pulling up a chair and sitting down.
Lorenzo sits up on the other side of his bed, now facing towards me.
"I know who you are, I recognize you from Ace's mind," he replies blankly.
"Well if that's the case, then you're probably tired of seeing my face," I joke, relaxing slightly.
Lorenzo shakes his head.
"No ma'am, not at all. You have a very kind face, your mate's lucky to have you."
I can feel my face heat up slightly.
"Oh, well thank you," I reply, sounding a bit flustered.
A small moment of silents falls between us, allowing for my cheeks to cool back down. After a moment, Lorenzo speaks again.
"So I take it you're here to lecture me about what I did to Alex, and how I shouldn't try anything. Don't worry, Keith sent the message very clear, according to the sixty-four stitches I now have in my face."
I shake my head.
"No, I wasn't in truth. Actually, as well as coming to check in, I wanted to ask you about something."
Lorenzo gives me a questioning look, cocking the eyebrow on the good side of his face.
"What may I help you with?" he asks.
I hold up my finger, checking Elliot's connection to see if he's listening in on my end.
He's not.
I let out a sigh.
"I have a question about Elliot?"
"What about him?" Lorenzo asks.
"Okay. Where and who are his parents? Are they back at the Ruby Stone pack grounds?"
The good side of Lorenzo's face turns white as he looks at me.
"I don't know, Alpha Sophie. They didn't come with him."
This takes me aback. I raise my own eyebrow.
"Wait, what do you mean they didn't come with him? Where did Elliot come from?"
"He stumbled onto our territory one night. He was just a pup. He was also in very bad shape, he was frantic, running around, paw pads were almost worn off, breathing heavily, he couldn't catch his breath, his eyes were bloodshot."
"Whoa, what happened to him?" I ask.
"Don't know he didn't and won't tell. Anyways, we took him in and Elliot became the most caring and kindest wolf in the pack, as you've probably figured out."
Lorenzo then gives me a serious look, leaning forward on the bed slightly.
"But I can tell you one thing, Alpha Sophie. Elliot's not a full werewolf."
"How do you mean Lorenzo?" I ask him stunned.
Letting out a slight sigh, Lorenzo replies.
"While Elliot was in the hospital after he arrived, our pack doctors took blood to get a look at his DNA makeup. No surprise on his father's side, he was an Omega werewolf. But his mother, his mother's DNA profile was completely foreign to us. We tried testing every pack rank ever known, all of which came back negative. We've even tried to test Rogue DNA, that also came back negative."
"Huh, that's weird," I reply, interested.
"Maybe someday we'll figure it out, but for now, that boy's origin is still a mystery."
"And you don't know anything else about him?" I ask.
"No, Alpha Sophie, I wish I could help you more."
"No, that's fine you've helped me enough. I'll look into it and see what I can find out."
Another moment of silence falls between the two of us. Finally unable to take it anymore, I speak to him again.
"So, how are you feeling?"
The visible part of Lorenzo's face lightens back up a bit.
"Pretty good. I mean, my face is a bit sore, but it could be worse. Keith could've ripped my whole face off, or my head."
"Has your mate been in to see you or...?"
Within an instant, Lorenzo's face becomes downcast and sorrow filled, almost as if a chunk of him has been ripped out.
Did I ask something I shouldn't?
"I don't have a mate, not anymore."
"Wait, what do you mean by..."
"My mate Cecelia rejected me. After I woke up from the Yip Nip, your aunt let my mate back so that she could see me. She walked in and rejected me, without another word." "She couldn't take the look of my stitches."
My heart then melts.
Poor guy. No wonder he was staring out the window when I walked in. Being rejected is one of the worst things on earth. When you're rejected it causes an immense pain in the chest, one worst then silver.
It's a worse fate than death.
"How awful, are you doing okay?" I ask, even though I already know the answer.
Lorenzo clears his throat and swallows before replying.
"I'm doing okay, besides the stitches in my face, and the pain of dying of loneliness in here."
I look down at the floor for a second, hoping to find a silver lining to this. After another moment, I find one and look back up towards him.
"Hey, cheer up. There's always a possibility of you finding a second chance mate," I say, hoping to lift his spirits if at least a little bit
Getting the tiniest of smiles on his face, the corners of Lorenzo's mouth tug upwards for a moment but stops just as quickly.
He lets out a slight sigh.
"Thanks for the kind words Alpha Sophie, but you and I both know second chance mates are so rare, the odds are that I won't get one. "
Trying to brighten up the mood somewhat, I reply. "Even if that's true, don't give up on yourself. Have a little faith and you'll see. you'll never know what might happen."
"I hope you're right Alpha Sophie, I really hope you are."
"I hope so too Lorenzo." Getting up from my chair, sliding it back to its original place, I speak to him again. "Well, I'd really hate to leave you like this, but I need to go check up on the others."
Lorenzo gives me a nod
"I understand Alpha Sophie. No worries, you probably should get going."
"I hope you get well soon and everything works out for you," I tell him, starting to walk out of the room.
"Thanks for stopping by," he calls after me.
Crossing through the doorway of Lorenzo's room a moment later, I spot him maneuvering back to the same way I found him. Sitting up on the other side of the bed, looking longingly out of his hospital room window.
Closing the door softly behind me, I connect the link to Elliot.
"Elliot you there? I'm ready to check on the others."
"Yes Sophie, I'm here. Alright, I'll meet you back downstairs. So how's Lorenzo doing?"
"How did you know...?"
"That you were going to see Lorenzo? I just knew. That was truly the reason I wanted to stay with Asher, so that I wouldn't be tempted to make his situation worse."
"Make it worse, but you stopped Keith when he was about to go in for round two."
"I only did that because I'm the Gamma, the peacekeeper. If I would've been alone, I would've joined Keith. Just because I stopped Keith from hurting Lorenzo even worse, doesn't mean I forgive him for what he did to Alex."
"We'll talk more when we meet."
"Say no more, I'm already on my way."
I disconnect the mind link and head towards the elevator.
As soon as I get back downstairs, Elliot gets back at my side and together we make our rounds in the rest of the hospital.

Okay, guys, all I have to say about this chapter is, I'm just glad it's over. While I was in the middle of writing this, I pressed the wrong button on my keyboard and deleted almost two days worth of work. Luckily for me, the kind people at wattpad helped me out and I got my words back but it took a lot of work. Hopefully, this hard work will be worth it.
What do you guys think Elliot is nixed with and what do think happened to him?
