Chapter Twenty Three

-Dick's POV-

I leaned in the doorway of Victoria's tiny hotel room. She was in a hurry to get to the Manor that she didn't even bother to tidy up the room. Alfred had drove her computer and fragile stuff over to the estate, but there were still two duffle bags left.

"It's just clothes and costume spares," she told me, coming out of the bathroom. Her face was barren with no makeup in sight. Victoria didn't really need it anyway. She had long, dark eyelashes and slightly pinker lips than any girl I'd ever seen. Her skin had a nice summer tan too, so blush wouldn't show up anyway. I didn't know why girls really wore makeup, but either way it didn't matter to me.

"If you guys want, we can play Bag Toss." Tim sat in the window sill and looked outside to make sure no one would be paying too much attention. It was around ten in the morning, so everyone was already busy at work.

"Bag Toss? That's the best name you could come up with?" Victoria held the bags and smirked, raising an eyebrow. Her classic sassy 'are you serious?' look.

"Well, we pass the bags between us while grappling," Tim answered.

"Why not Bag Ping Pong, or Bag Pinball?"

"Because we didn't have you to sass us about everything when the game was invented," I countered, smirking. She rolled her eyes and put on her mask. Her dark blue eyes changed into white orbs as her identity was concealed. Robin and I already were in full costume.

"Is it like a competition between players or between time?" Nightingale asked.

"Try not to drop the bags, or you lose two points. If it hits something, you lose one point. Everyone starts out with ten each," I explained, "you have to pass it to someone else within five seconds of grappling onto a building." Nightingale nodded and handed Tim the other bag. She tossed me the one she held and we all jumped out of the window.

We were in a rough neighborhood so you didn't have to grapple onto a tall building to get somewhere. It got really difficult when you played in the rich, skyscraper areas.

I got a hold on a small restaurant and catapulted my black duffle bag into Nightingale's arms. Tim tossed me his as he grappled quickly away. I crisscrossed over the streets and tossed mine to Victoria again in which she threw hers at Tim. Surprisingly, she actually got it in front of him so he was forced to dive down after it. I jumped forward and threw my bag hard towards the ever-advancing Nightingale and dropped a couple of feet before grappling back up.

"Not today, Nightingale!" I shouted, laughing. Suddenly, both bags came flying towards me. I caught the one from Tim but struggled to keep the second one on top without it falling off. Robin and Nightingale started grappling backwards as they stuck their tongues out and made funny faces. I tossed the two bags at Tim. He caught them, but Victoria grappled about a mile ahead of us before he could throw it back. He threw one at me once I approached him.

"Wanna dump them on her?" He said, smirking. I nodded and tucked the bag under my arm. Just as a skyscraper finally came into view, the two experts at the game, Tim and I, grappled onto one of the balconies and swung up into the air and dropped the bags at a perfect time. They both crashed on top of Nightingale as we quickly swung away.

"Oh, you're on now," she glared, catching up with us. I looked over and smiled just as she tossed a bag at me. I dodged her toss, so she had to go after them. Tim and I began to speed up just as Wayne Manor came into view. Tim quickly picked up one of the duffles that he was hit with. I really didn't want Victoria to win. I mean, we agreed on being friends, but I still wasn't used to her. Luckily, Tim managed to do a classic 'Flip and Swing' and land the bag perfectly on top of the other right in Victoria's arms.

I swung and landed in front of the entrance to the Batcave. Tim followed and, a little bit later, Nightingale. We all swung through the waterfall and landed on the computer platform. Bruce was at work, but had told the family to meet him at a fancy restaurant in the North side of town.

"Welcome, Master Victoria," Alfred said, smiling at her as she set her bags down. He had a tray of cookies and tea. He always did that when we had a visitor. Nightingale took one cookie and one cup and finished it quickly.

"Thanks, Pennyworth. Show me my room," she ordered, waving her hand. His face twisted at her obvious rudeness to him. I also glared a bit.

"Maybe slip a please in there one of these days." Alfred crossed his arms.

"Fine. I've never seen such a sassy servant before, so you've earned my respect. Will you please direct me to my room?" Her usual bitchy face had quickly morphed into one of a beautiful girl of her species. I almost smiled at her small indication of beauty, but she had left the room with Alfred before I could even think about her.

"Tim, where are you going?" I asked as he began down the hall. He turned around to look at me.

"You know we have a world to take care of, right?" He chuckled, heading to the kitchen to most likely grab some breakfast before work. I, instead, followed Victoria to her room. Surprisingly, Bruce had chosen a room for her on the second floor of the A-wing, right around the same area as my room and Tim's. Usually, if guests stayed at the Manor, they would be scattered around the house to keep up a security on the property. When Barbara and Jason were staying here often with Bruce and I, they would be put on different floors and different wings during the night.

"How's it hanging?" I stood in the doorway of the room as Nightingale began to set up her computer on the area where the TV was. Her computer system in all was enough to occupy where the huge TV was.

"If that's how you're gonna greet me, don't bother stopping by my room on your way to the bathroom," she sassed, not looking up from her work. Oh, did I not mention we would be sharing a bathroom as well?

"I thought we ended all the rivalry," I fake gasped, "it hurts me when you talk like that." She stood up and pushed passed me in the doorway.

"Good." She went into the bathroom down the hall and began placing all of her girly stuff inside the compartments. By girly stuff I mean hand wrapping tape, needles and thread for sewing, personal made first aid kits, pain killers, and of course, poison cures of all kinds. She even had body and face scrubs that smelled like freshly picked flowers.

"So, you do have some girly things," I commented, picking up a homemade lavender body scrub she had placed in a basket near the bathtub.

"Heath and my body's condition is very important to me. During my training, I was taught to make these cleansers and organic soaps using only natural herbs and ingredients that will keep my body in the best shape it can be," she spat out her reply, "especially when my main job right now is fighting people." Victoria whisked back to her bedroom and quickly unpacked her small duffle bags. Unfortunately, the only thing in there were training clothes. She had sweatpants ranging from colors of black to grey, sports bras also in the same colors, sweatshirts, muscle shirts, socks, and running shoes. The nicest thing she had was a pair of jeans and a single red t-shirt.

"Hey, where are your nice clothes?" I dug through her clothes and there was still nothing.

"I don't need them, so I don't have them."

"But, you wore a pretty fancy dress to Bruce's party?"

"I sold all that shit back," she said, laughing. I raised an eyebrow, but she just shrugged.

"Okay, well we'll have to go shopping," I chuckled and grabbed her arm. Before I could even blink, she had my arm twisted around and my face pressed against the cold floor. I tried to look up, but her knee dug into my neck.

"No," she whispered and got off of me. I sat up, wondering what had happened. Man, women could be pretty confusing.

"Let's get going, guys," Tim walked past our room on the way to the Batcave. We followed, me in the rear behind the fast-paced Victoria.

When we arrived at the Watchtower, the Justice League had finally returned. I smiled and got a fistbump from Superman. Nightingale stared up at the Man of Steel with huge eyes. He cocked his head and raised an eyebrow. She stared up at him like one of the little girls in Metropolis would.

"Y-you're Superman!" She exclaimed, stuttering. I laughed and walked passed her to Aqualad. I still listened in on their conversation though.

"Yes, I am. And you're the new teen hero I'm guessing," Clark said and smiled. She smiled wider than I had ever seen.

"Yeah! I am! I'm Nightingale, it is an honor to meet you, Kal!" She grabbed his hand as his face dropped. "Oh-I'm sorry, I forgot about the secret identity thing. And don't worry, Bruce didn't tell me I figured it out myself!" Now she sounded like a nerdy kid. He smiled and shook her hand back.

"Alright, but just keep it on the down-low, alright? I have to go, but it was amazing meeting you," he turned to leave, but she grabbed his cape. He slowly turned around again, with a small grin on his face at her excitement.

"Do you by any chance know where Wonder Woman is? I mean, I know you have work to do, but she's been my idol since I don't even know when and I know she's your girlfriend and all-,"

"Yeah, she's probably in the training room. Just don't get hit with her sword," he chuckled before leaving to the front of the Watchtower. I watched as Nightingale ran towards the training room with her katanas pulled out of their back-straps.

"Can we go on missions now?" Bart asked impatiently, repeatedly tapping on the desktop Aqualad was sitting in front of. Artemis looked like she was about to pounce.

"Yes, here. There is a problem in Kansas, New York, and London. The Toy-Maker has unleashed huge toys on the cities. Same teams from yesterday. Alpha, New York. Beta, London. Gamma, Kansas," Kaldur assigned and everyone was off. Except for Nightingale. I saw her leaving with a couple of Leaguers as they went on a mission. I remembered when I used to be that excited.

The giant Gorilla Robot Doll in New York was taken down pretty easily. I was back right before it was getting dark, since the Alpha squad wanted to catch a small dinner together after we took down the Toy-Maker. It was a good thing too, because I had family dinner reservations.

"Nightingale! Come on!" I yelled while she was chatting with Diana. Wonder Woman looked over at me and politely excused Victoria from the conversation. She punched me in the arm when we arrived back in the Batcave.

I led her by the hand to her room and tossed decent clothes at her. She growled at me to stop, but I grabbed her hand again and shoved her in the front seat of one of Bruce's Black Ferrari Convertibles. A normal girl would swoon at the sight of the gorgeous luxury car -- hell even I was in love with it -- but Victoria just glared at me as if we were walking to the clothes store.

"Tell me where we are going before I break your fingers," she threatened. I smirked and pulled out of the garage with a loud screech and drove onto the street. She gripped the seat. Again, I laughed almost passing out from laughing so hard.

We arrived at the dress shop in silence, except for the sound of people gasping at the car. Victoria hurried out and almost hugged the ground when she got her feet back on the pavement. "Come on, Victoria we don't have anymore time to waste," I said, laughing again.

"You'll pay for this, Grayson," she groaned and walked inside of the store. An old woman who one of the many girlfriends of Bruce's -- Silver St. Cloud -- had known approached us. She smiled and rested a hand on Nightingale's shoulder.

"Oh, so beautiful! I'll go get some dresses!" The woman dashed off. The woman looked very similar to Silver, so they were probably related. When she came back, she had a rainbow of colors and a variety of fabrics that made up the expensive dresses.

"No," Victoria tried to leave, but I grabbed her arm and handed her a pink dress. She rolled her eyes and went to put it on. When she came back out, the woman shook her head and urged her to try on another.

About a half an hour later, everyone had finally agreed on one. Victoria had decided on a black dress down to her ankles with lace on the top half and no back. She looked pretty fancy. We immediately drove back to the Manor to pick up Tim and Alfred and I quickly styled my hair, put on cologne, and got dressed in my favorite tuxedo.

We arrived at the fanciest restaurant in Gotham, Fantaisie Luxe-Riche. Reporters always lined up to watch Gotham's wealthiest and many famous stars get out of their cars to come dine here. Tim and Alfred hurried along to meet up with Bruce, who was obviously already there since one of his cars was parked in view. Victoria stayed behind in the car, so I had to stay with her.

"I don't want to go in there," she said, glaring at the cameras flashing at some famous actress.

"Come on, it's not that bad."

"Too much people without any type of violence." I could tell she was actually nervous about going in, but she wouldn't dare admit it. I smiled softly and grabbed her hand. "What are you doing?"

"This is what friends are for," I said, leading her out of the car and down into the pit of reporters. They all gasped when they saw the new face of Wayne fortune.

"Dick Grayson! Ward of Bruce Wayne!" Someone called.

"Who's the new beauty? New girlfriend?" Another called. I just led Victoria inside and to the table we were at. No matter how many people were inside the restaurant, there always seemed to be endless amounts of room. I dropped her hand and smiled as we sat down.

"You look very nice, Victoria," Bruce spoke in a very polite tone. Victoria smiled fakely and curtsied, sitting down.

"As do you, Bruce. What exactly am I doing here?" She asked after the drink orders were set.

"Well, since you are going to be living with us, we want to know about you. And I wanted you to have a taste of how life in Gotham under the Wayne name will be," Bruce explained.

"Well, I'm keeping my name, so..." Victoria crossed her arms and leaned back. Bruce chuckled a bit and nodded.

"That's alright. I think a job at Wayne Enterprises would be a good idea, though," Bruce crossed his fingers. Victoria raised an eyebrow.

"I think not." She snapped sassily.

"You will be making our identities too obvious if you don't have an alibi as to why I chose you to live in Wayne Manor and let you use my luxury as if you're my own," Bruce seemed to be angry, "so, you will take up a personal assistant of my department."

"Uh, no," Victoria sat up straighter, her face getting a little red with anger, I was guessing.

"You can work at an ice cream shop and live in a hotel. If you want, you can pay for your suit repairs and software repairs and new weapons by yourself," Bruce retaliated.

Victoria was silent for a few seconds. I wanted to laugh at her obvious loss of the argument, but instead sipped on my recently arrived martini. "Fine, I'll work with you. But I am NOT being a personal assistant."

"I'm sorry, but I have no other job openings, you'll have to deal with it."

"No, I want to be higher up in the workforce. I want to be your co-director," she said, a smirk on her face. Bruce shook his head with a laugh.

"No." He ordered for the whole table and the waiter quickly went back to the kitchen.

"Then screw this whole 'working together' thing. I'll be happy to take my chances with the Injustice League." That made Bruce mad. He glared and got really close to Nightingale's face.

"You should be thankful I am even putting you up and offering you a job. Not to mention not arresting you on sight. Now, you will be my secretary at most. Am I clear, Miss Smith?" He was in a whisper-yell tone that sounded calm and angry at the same time.

"Fine, let's eat now."

The rest of the dinner was silent. Alfred chatted a bit, but we were all quietly eating the delicious dinner that had been served. Bruce eventually got up and had to leave on account of business. Victoria smiled as he left.
