Chapter Three

-Dick's POV-

I sat down in a chair at the huge computer in front of me. I rubbed at my back to realize my escima sticks were gone. She had taken those too! I looked down at the ripped black cloth that her nails had torn through on my abdomen. I had a small cut, but nothing that was bleeding. Bruce was gonna be mad that I didn't get a single lead on her except that she has amazing senses and isn't scared of heights. I sighed and leaned back. Just on time, Bruce strolled in.

"Did you find who Nightingale is?" He asked. I turned around and shook my head. The disappointed feeling that Bruce casted off made me hang my head. Why was his approval so important? I was Nightwing. I had moved on from being his Robin. That meant that I didn't need to feel like I needed to please him. So, why did I still feel like I needed to have what he wanted?

"I recorded this from the camera lenses in my mask while I was on Old Wayne Tower," I took off my mask and began playing the footage. It showed me creeping closer to her on the edge of the tower. She had been sitting on a gargoyle with a similar wrist computer as the one I had equipped. As soon as I came around the corner, she turned off her computer and tilted her head my way. I took a single silent step closer to her. The camera caught as she pounced on me and fell off the tall tower. I came tumbling down with her. She kicked in my face, making me fall as her hands found themselves around my escrima stick. I grappled away before I hit the ground and recorded as she also grappled away. That was the last of the footage I had on the mystery bird.

"She knows what she's doing. Did you see what she was searching?" Bruce rewinded the video. I had already done what I knew what he was about to do. He tried to see if he could get a facial recognition. Her mask was designed like all of ours. It had eyes that were completely white and unrecognizable. Bruce zoomed in on her computer screen right before it vanished out of sight in the video. It was a tiny screen with a picture of the Boy Wonder with Batman. It read, The Boy Wonder and the Batman: Who is Robin?

"Why would she be looking that up?"I leaned over the tiny shot we had of her before everything became blurry. She wore gloves that looked like they would block fingerprints from being left behind. I looked closer and realized she had tiny throwing knives sticking out of the back pocket of her utility belt. "Bruce, look. She has throwing knives as well," I pointed and zoomed on the tiny blade that hadn't quite fit inside the tiny compartment she had. It was black with a grip on the end and a white bird with red tipped wings right on the black blade.

"I found a body in an alley in Gotham tonight. It was Frankie Shotton, aka The Storm. Major drug dealer who was apparently about to mug the mayor. This 'Nightingale' stopped the mugging and saved the mayor's wallet, according to him. She threw her throwing knives, is what the mayor said, and then crushed his windpipe. I looked at the body and there were puncture holes in his clothes where knives would've made contact," Batman pulled up the body of a man. Just as Bruce had said, there were holes in his clothes but no actual wounds on his body.

"So she stopped the mugging and helped the mayor. Is she good or bad? The question of why she was looking Robin up doesn't make sense," I said. Bruce agreed, and took off his mask.

"I thought you wanted to do this by yourself. I have to try to find the Joker while you track down this Nightingale." Bruce went upstairs, leaving me alone in the Batave. Maybe I would be able to find a track of her during the day. She had to be somewhere in Gotham without her mask. I just had to find her. But I needed sleep.

I awoke around ten in the morning. I had a plan to meet up with the Team today and go to the beach around Mt. Justice. I had to be there by twelve. M'gann stressed the times to me about a week ago. Ever since I stopped being Robin a year ago, I hadn't really had time to see my old friends or manage the Team. I wasn't much of a member anymore, so I couldn't go see Connor or Artemis. I was too busy working cases in Gotham.

I put on a pair of sweatpants and a muscle shirt and headed to the gym in Wayne Manor. I hit the treadmill first. I ran for about an hour, steadily increasing the speed. I then lifted weights, swam, and finally came to the beams and rings. I jumped up and grabbed them both in my hands. I lifted myself up and held in the air. I did a couple of turns on the rings, swinging myself onto the balance beam. I landed on one foot and did a back hand spring. I landed on the floor and went over to the rope that dangled from the cieling. I quickly climbed it to the top and climbed on top of a metal beam that held the roof up. The gym was a bit seperate from the rest of the house. I sung from bar to bar, making my way to the other side of the room via cieling. I remebered when I was fifteen, I would start in here on the cieling and then I didn't come off the cieling in the whole house. I chuckled at my own immaturity and dropped down on a mat.

"Master Dick, I have prepared you breakfast," Alfred stood in front of me. I wiped my face with my towel and took a sip of my water bottle. I followed Alfred to the kitchen and sat down at the marble bar.

"Protein shake, scrambled eggs, and bacon! Thank you, Alfred. I sure did miss your cooking," I said while stuffing the food in my mouth. I gulped everything down and ran upstairs to change. I needed to get my bathing suit on and hurry to the Batcave so I could zeta tube to Mt. Justice. I dug through my drawers, but everything was from when I was thirteen. "Alfred! Do I have any swimming suits that fit me?"

"I don't think so, Master Dick. They are all from when you were a boy. But you could buy one," Alfred suggested. I nodded and smiled. I patted him on the back and dashed out of Wayne Manor. I took one of Bruce's motorcycles and rode to a bathing suit shop.

I grabbed a simple blue one and paid for it. I left the store and went to get back on my motorcyle. I wasn't wearing a shirt, just my trunks. I decided not to ride the bike back after I saw all the lustful looks I got from the beach babes in bikinis that passed. It was a hot July day and everyone was heading to the beaches. I turned the corner when my chest was met with an ice cream cone. I looked down and laughed, ready to flirt with a clumsy beauty. The girl just held a book in her hands and left the cone dripping down me. I growled and turned towards her.

"Hey! You just made me your ice cream's topping!" I shouted, grabbing her arm. She closed the book and gripped my fingers on her arm. She met my gaze and peeled my fingers off one by one. She had dark brown hair that was piled on top of her head in a perfect bun. She gripped my fingers to where it was actually hurting. "Let go!" I jerked my hands away from her.

"Maybe you should watch where you're going," she lectured. She had dark blue eyes, my favorite color. I snapped my attention from her eyes and went back to scowling at her.

"Me!? You were the one fucking reading and walking!" She looked completely unfazed and started walking to a rock. She sat down and began reading her book again. Not even a sorry? I stormed over and grabbed the book from her hands. "What are you reading anyway?" I turned it over in my hands. It was a vey old looking copy of The Odyssey. What kind of girl reads a classical book instead of going to the beach? She was in a bathing suit but she looked completely dry.

"Give me that back before I have to take it back," She threatened. She was like a little puppy barking at a pitbull. She looked completely harmless.

"Say please," I mocked her and smirked. Her hands balled up into fists but she relaxed them. It was as if a wave washed over her. She softened her posture and stood up in front of me. Her frown softened into a smile that hinted at flirtacious. She put her hands on my abdomen where the sticky ice cream had hit. She pulled out a napkin and wiped it off for me. I bit my lip as I watched her stand up with her long, tan legs. She pouted and made her eyes really big as she slipped her hands around my waist.

"Please, baby, give me my book?" She weaved her hand up into mine and slowly tugged the book away from me. I watched as she sat back down under her tree. I had let her take it from me just because I had wanted to see what she was gonna do with me. I chuckled and hopped on my bike, zooming away to the Batcave.

M'gann's arms were flung around my neck. I swung her around and laughed. "Dick! You are so big!" She sang, hugging me tighter. I set her on the ground in front of me. She smiled and pushed a lock of hair behind her ear as she looked up at me. She looked like she had aged too. She must've purposly aged herself because other wise she wouldn't of had too.

Artemis walked up to me and slapped me across the face. "What the hell, Artemis!?" I groaned and rubbed my red cheek. She laughed and smiled.

"That's for not visiting when I told you to, Grayson," she wrapped me into a hug. I kissed her head and nodded.

"I've been really busy." Superboy was in the water with Aqualad, racing him back to the shore. I watched as they were neck at neck until Aqualad pulled ahead and walked up to me.

"Dick, it is very nice to see you," he hugged me briefly as Connor came over. I fist bumped Connor as she walked over to M'gann. He wasn't really into the hugs unless it was with M'gann. He picked her up and tossed her in the water. I laughed and went to sit at the beach with Artemis and Kaldur.

"Hey, do you guys want a beer?" Artemis asked. I nodded and she tossed me one. This was how it should've always been. Just us five together, enjoying each other's company. We were all grown up now, though. I was nineteen, Artemis was twenty two along with M'gann, and Conner and Kaldur were twenty three. We were all more responsible and busy. Artemis was trying to get back into the hero life, M'gann and Conner were trying to figure out their issues, and Kaldur was leading the Team. We all had responsibilites. So, it was nice when we could all come down to the beach and hang out, forget all our responisbilites, and just soak it all in where our friendship had first sprouted into the family we had now.

~~~~~~~~Even longer than the other one...this one is kind of fluff but it has a message about friendship and about how old everyone is! When the Team (aka Young Justice) first started, I assumed Dick was 13, Artemis and Wally were 16, M'gann was 16, and Conner and Kaldur were 17. So, now Dick is 19 and everyone else is in there twenties. Don't forget to vote, comment, and follow!~~~~~~~~~~~
