Chapter Sixteen

-Dick's POV-

Quickly rolling behind a trashcan, I was given a perfect view of the problem in front of us. Captain Cold and Captain Boomerang stood side by side, looking around for us. I smirked and looked to the sky to see M'gann in camo-mode. She smiled at me and flew down, grabbing Captain Boomerang's shoulders.

I launched myself over the trashcan I was behind and landed on top of Captain Cold. He reached for his gun, but I kicked it from his hands and pinned him down. After an extra little punch to the cheek, I cuffed Cold and M'gann and I put the two Captains in the bioship.

"Beta squad mission complete, Aqualad. Captain Cold and Captain Boomerang are secured in the bioship and are ready to be handed over to the authorities," I reported, glancing back at the two criminals in the back, "and they don't seem too happy."

"I don't think anyone in the situations they have found themselves in would be," Aqualad said, chuckling. I nodded and clicked the com off.

"It's nice to have you back, Nightwing," M'gann turned toward me with a proud look on her face. "I mean, look at how much we've gotten done just from having you here! As a Team, six missions were completed today and you were on three of those six! It's nice to finally have the old Team back together again."

"Yeah...well, what's left of it," I sighed, instantly thinking of the fallen members. Thinking of Wally, to be specific. M'gann giggled a little and flashed me a sad smile. The type of smile you would use when remebering old, sweet memories.

"Wally was such a jokester. He would be so angry that we are all so serious and sad all the time. That was his purpose other than being a speedster. He was what kept us all smiling." Memories of all the corny jokes that Wally cracked flashed in my mind, making me laugh a little. M'gann was right, he was gone. And knowing Wally, he would kick my ass for being so serious all the time.

We landed the bioship in the port on the Watchtower. Gamma squad had returned from their mission, but Alpha was still yet to return. M'gann headed to the showers and I followed, but Aqualad's firm arm grip stopped me.

"Dick, let's talk," he whispered, pulling me close to him to hear what he said. He led me into a seperate board room where meetings were sometimes held. "I'm certain everyone will agree with me when I say it is an honor and a pleasure to have you on the Team again. We have gotten so much done having your skills put to good use."

"Well, thank you Kaldur. I've been working solo for almost two years, so it feels nice to finally be with other heros again," I said, chuckling and rubbing my neck, "but today, I have been assigned to either Beta or Alpha when I really don't deserve to be. I know you think that I would be offended if you put me on Gamma missions or monitor duty, but I want things to be fair. Just because I was an original member doesn't mean that I deserve to have all the higher missions." It was true. Through the whole day, I had been on two Alpha missions, one Beta mission, and zero Gamma. I liked things to be fair. Robin could handle Alpha missions just as well I could, yet he got all Gamma missions.

"Understood and noted, but I didn't put you on missions because you're my friend. I have a system to how I assign missions. A good team needs strength, strategy, and defense. I usually put the power houses of the Team on a mission everytime. Those included in that area are Superboy, the Wonder Girls, Lagoon Boy, Beast Boy, Miss Martian, and Blue Beetle. Defense is usually covered by the most skilled fighters along with people with powers that could provide good defense. This includes Robin, Batgirl, Arsenal, Artemis, and Zatanna. Finally, in the strategy side, there aren't many people who can think on their feet and successfully create improvised plans. The only people who do this very well are you, Batgirl, and Robin. Batgirl is gone for now and Robin is so young. You're a logical choice for one of the most important aspects of a team. Others are casually assigned to missions depending on how relevant to the mission their powers are, but I leave that up to the strategists. Dick, you are very important to this Team." Aqualad explained, placing a hand on my shoulder. I looked around just as the Alpha squad arrived through the zeta tubes.

"Blue Beetle 026. Kid Flash 031. Robin 021. Wonder Girl 027. Superboy 004," the computer announced. The five heros stormed in. All of them had glares plastered on their face and mud covering every inch of them. Even Tim, who didn't usually let things get him angry, looked a little pissed off.

"What's up with them?" I whispered to Aqualad. Miss Martian greeted Superboy with a kiss, but he shrugged her arms off of him.

"Best not to talk about. They all look very furious," he answered, stepping away back to his computer. Kid Flash and Blue Beetle went to hit the showers, while the other three stayed behind to drop off some Professor Ivo technology they had aquired on their mission.

"Hey Donna, what's wrong? Why is everyone fuming?" I asked, strolling up beside Donna. She turned around, about to hit me, but then softened when she realized I wasn't one of her team mates.

"Oh, you know, the usual. Mr. Super dumbo over there acting like he owns the whole fucking world," Donna growled, sending evil looks at Connor. M'gann held his arm, but he had clearly heard Donna and was about to charge.

"Say that one more time, Troy." Connor had quickly made his way over and was now right in front of Donna. They were face to face and had their hands clunched into fists.

"You know, just because you're a shitty clone of Superman, doesn't mean you're at all as powerful." Oh no, Wonder Girl had done it now. She had a smug grin on her face as Superboy lunged forward. Donna had been trained in combat but Superboy had raw power. Naturally, Donna was throwing the punches to the most vulernable parts of the body while Superboy was knocking her into the air with each swing.

"Stop it! Stop it!" M'gann and I both screamed, trying to get the two powerhouses apart. They didn't budge or even notice we were trying to break up the fight.

"Our mission would've been way more successful if you didn't fuck it all up and blow our god damned cover!" Wonder Girl shouted, catching Superboy's ankle in her lasso. She swung him around and he crashed against the wall with a loud thud.

"Maybe if you didn't get in my way I could've took Ivo and his robotic monkeys out before you could even blink!" Superboy countered, grabbing the lasso and yanking Donna toward him. He punched her right in the face, which sent her flying through the air to the other side of the room. M'gann and I saw our chances and immediatly ran over to the two, grabbing them. Both were strong enough to pull us off, but both knew that would cause us a lot of pain.

"Calm down, dude," I told Connor, releasing his arms. M'gann let Donna go and both people switched sides. Superboy grabbed M'gann's hand and they both walked to their dorm-like rooms in the Watchtower. Donna sighed angerily and took a swing at a nearby punching bag, tearing it in half.

"I hate that fucking Kryptonian," she mumbled, joining me in looking out at the world. Donna and I had dated once a couple of years back. She wasn't my first official girlfriend, but she was my first in bed. After I became Nightwing and our superhero careers became too difficult to balance with our relationship, we decided to break up and become friends. I didn't think so, but all my closest friends told me she still had a huge crush on me.

"He's part of our team too, Donna," I chuckled, turning toward her. She glared but nodded and eased up on the scowling. "The mission was completed no matter what happened, wasn't it?"

"Yeah, but we had Ivo perfectly in our sights atop a hill and then Superboy decided he was too impatient and fucking rampaged! Tim almost got shot! Do you know how mad Cassie would be if I let her boyfriend get shot!?" Donna exclaimed, swinging her arms around. I dodged her hands before they could hit me in the face.

"I'm guessing she would be pretty mad. Remember when I got shot on a mission with Aqualad and you almost tore his fins off?" I said, trying to get her to smile. She chuckled at the memory, a small grin forming on her face. Good, the tension was lowering.

"Yeah, I remember. I should hit the showers, I had mud all over me. See ya tomorrow, Dickie," she cooed, walking away. I smiled at the old nickname and zeta tubed back home.

When I walked out of the Batcave, I was surprised that Nightingale wasn't in there training. Tim probably stayed back at the Watchtower with Cassie and I think Bruce was on a Justice League mission all day. I strolled upstairs and found that she wasn't there anyway.

"Finally," I said outloud, tugging off my Nightwing clothes and tossing them in my room. I laid down on the couch with a sandwich and enjoyed the Victoria-free zone in peace. Man, it felt good to just watch a movie alone in my boxers.

~~~~~I feel so bad! I hadn't updated in so long and this chapter is pretty bad :( School is keeping me so occupied I barely have time to breath when I get home. Ugh. I'll try to update soon. Hopefully this week. It's late at night and I'm writing this. Ugh.~~~~~~
