Chapter Nine

-Dick's POV-

"Don't even try to get away, the cops will be here shortly," I told some street criminals I had stopped from a near robbery. I grappled away back to my vantage point, watching the town.

"BACK OFF!" A male scream caught my attention. It sounded like it was directly under me, so I jumped down.

I landed right behind a man who was pointing a gun at a shadowy figure with a dead body at his feet. The man turned around to see me, his eyes widening. It was a gang banger that had escaped from me weeks ago. I narrowed my eyes.

"Well, looks like even the smartest birds can't follow directions," the figure said. I automatically recognized who it was. "I thought I told you to stay away from me," Nightingale stepped out of the shadows. The streetlight illuminated her face and her body better than I had ever seen. Her mask reached down her nose a little, making it look like a tiny beak. She had small freckles dusting her nose, making her look a little less scary.

"I just couldn't stay away," I smirked, pulling out my escrima sticks. The gang banger was struggling to climb a chainlink fence, so Nightingale quickly pounced on him and stabbed him in the chest. I lunged forward trying to shock her with my escrima sticks, but she used the man's body as a shield. She rolled through my legs and punched me on the back of the head. I fell down on the ground, feeling a little dizzy.

"I don't want to kill you, Dick, but you are becoming a problem," Nightingale pulled out two sharp katanas and flipped after me. I rolled to the side before the blade made contact with my back. I tried swiping at her feet to trip her, but she jumped up and landed hard on my ankle with her boot. I grabbed her leg and tried to throw her. She pressed against my neck with her other leg while I was trying to throw her, so I had to drop her. She did a back flip and pushed off with her hand, landing on her feet and facing me. I went forward and threw multiple kicks and punches, but she blocked them with her forearms and her knees. I grabbed my sticks again and jabbed them toward her, but her katana stopped the attack. Our faces were inches apart as our weapons pressed against each other. Her eyes narrowed from behind her mask as she glared at me. She pulled her sword away from my weapon and ran up the side of the wall, landing behind me. I jerked my head backwards just as she raised her arm, making her drop her sword. As it fell, it cut her leg. Drops of blood fell from her leg.

"Fuck! I gotta go, I'll see you next time, Grayson," she quickly grappled away before I could catch her. The scarlet blood glistened in the light. I smiled, collecting a vial of it. Tucking the vial safetly in a compartment on my utility belt, I grappled away to the Batcave.

"Tim! Tim! I got something!" I shouted, running into the cave. No one answered and I realized I was alone. "Well, I don't need a Robin to analyze blood," I said to myself, shrugging and sitting down. I emptied the vial into the DNA analyzer system. I played with my thumbs while I waited for the computer to do it's magic. Back in the alley...it was clear who was winning that fight. If I hadn't hit Nightingale's arm with my head, she might've killed me. No one ever beats me in a fight, but Nightingale...she has beaten me. Several times, I thought.

"DNA match found," the computer allerted me. I looked at the screen. Several names appeared, all from different countries. I was confused. The blood had came from one girl, so why were there so many matches?

"Maria Gerasimov. She was born in Moscow, Russia but her parents were killed in a plane crash leaving her orphaned," I read, looking at the picture. It was of a girl with light brown hair and brown eyes. She had tanned skin and a mole on her right chin.

"Francesca Vincent. Born in Paris, France with a baby brother named Henry and a little sister named Sarah. When Francesca was six, her parents were killed in a house fire. Her siblings both lived," this girl was blonde with pale blue eyes. She was pale with a clear face.

"Kara Schulz. Born in an unknown location in Germany. Her father was arrested when she was four due to the murder of her mother. She lived with her grandmother until she was eighteen, in which she moved to Canada." Kara had red hair with green eyes and a face covered in blemishes. She had crooked teeth and several piercings on her nose, eyebrow, and ears.

"Sophia Florez. She was born in Madrid, Spain. Her mother died in child labor. Her dad became a drug addict and commited suicide after jumping out of a ten story building. Sophia was put in a boarding school and graduated top of her class, eventually graduating at a top college and moving to England." Sophia had inky black hair and tanned skin along with hazel eyes. She had tattoos on her arms and moles on her face and neck.

"Born in Metropolis, Victoria Smith was taken away from her parents as a newborn when they were convicted of child abuse. She went to a boarding school in Miami. She graduated from the school and left to Australia for a special college. She returned a year later to Gotham because of the job opportunities." Now this was more like it. Victoria had dark brown hair with deep blue eyes. This girl was for sure the Nightingale. That would mean all those other matches were just cover ups. I smirked. Quickly searching where Victoria Smith was staying, I headed out again.

I was led to a disgusting hotel. It smelled just from standing next to it. The paint job was peeling off and the roof looked like it was about to collapse. I climbed the side and peeked into the window that was attatched to Nightingale's window. I peeked inside and made sure she wasn't there. I climbed in and started looking through her stuff. She had a nice computer and nice gadgets. I couldn't hack into her computer because the firewall she had set up was too strong. I growled and left the scene as I heard footsteps outside the door.

Tim greeted me with a smile as I entered the cave again. I peeled off my mask with an ego-filled smirk. I had left the information of Victoria on the computer. "You found her," Tim said, smirking at me. I nodded.

"Yep, I did. Bruce is having a party tomorrow night and now that I have extra time, I think we need to go tux shopping," I smiled and changed out of my Nightwing suit.

"We should invite Nightingale to the party. We could take her here and interrogate her," Tim suggested, following me out of the Batcave.

"I could chat her up and slip a sleeping drug in her drink. Then, we could bring her," I added. Tim agreed and we headed to our rooms for some sleep.
