The morning sun rays streamed into Vani's room through the window to give a glow on Bani's face. She squinted her eyes before opening them and smiled when she saw him sleeping beside her. She moved closer to him and caressed his face making him smile feeling her touch.
Bani : You are awake?
Veer : Yes, I am. (He opened his eyes and turned to her)
Bani : Feeling better today?
Veer : I think so.... but I'm not sure. (He snuggled into her arms, placing his head on her chest and legs tangled with hers)
Bani : Baby?
Veer : Hmm?
Bani : Shall we go out for lunch today since it's a weekend?
Veer : Sure sweetheart. (He took her hand and kissed on her fingers)
Bani : I want to eat Chinese food today.
Veer : Alrig- (Before he could complete, he quickly got up and rushed into the washroom)
He again puked his guts out and Bani caressed his back standing behind him.
Bani : Veer, let's not delay it anymore. You have been throwing up everyday since a week now so we are going to the hospital today.
Veer : No, swee- (He was cut by her)
Bani : Shut up. No more arguments. Go and get ready now!
Veer : Okay, fine. Don't shout like this.
Bani : You go first! (She gave him his towel and pushed him inside the bathroom)
They both got ready and left to the hospital.

At the hospital :
Veer and Bani went into the doctor's cabin when it was their turn.
Bani : Good morning, doctor.
Doctor : Good morning. Take your seat.
Bani explained the doctor about Veer's condition.
Doctor : Oh okay. Mr Singhania, how many times you vomit a day? Do you feel any heartburn or stomach pain?
Veer : The first day I vomited for 6 times and after that it reduced to 3 to 4 times a day. No, I don't feel anything else.
Doctor : 3 to 4 times? That's not normal. Let me check you first.
The doctor checked Veer and frowned when she couldn't find out any problem in him.
Doctor : Hmm Mr Singhania, I think we should take a blood test to see if there's any virus in your blood cells.
Veer : Okay. (He nodded hesitantly)
Bani held Veer's hand and squeezed it reassuringly.
Doctor : Mrs Singhania, I think we will have to take a blood test for you too because- (She was cut by Bani)
Bani : Why? I don't have any problem with my health. There's no need to take out my blood. I already have less blood in my body so it's a big NO, doctor. (She refused fearfully)
The doctor chuckled and shook her head.
Doctor : But can I ask when was the last time you guys had a sexual intercourse?
Bani : Hmm I think it was last week Friday so it's 8 days ago.
Doctor : 8 days? Then we really need to check your blood too because if he's having any virus then there are high chances for the virus to get transmitted to you through the sexual intercourse.
Bani : But I don't have any symptoms and I didn't vomit too so I'm sure I don't have any problem. (She pouted)
Veer : Bani, keep quiet and listen to the doctor first. It's just a little amount of blood. They are not going to take out the whole 5 liters of blood from your body.
Bani : But I'm so scared.
Doctor : Don't worry, they are experienced phlebotimists so they will draw your blood without any pain. (She smiled at Bani)
Bani : Hmm okay fine. (She agreed reluctantly)
Doctor : Alright then come again tomorrow to collect your reports, Mr and Mrs Singhania. Now she will guide you both for the blood test. (She said, pointing at the nurse beside her)
Veer : Okay, doctor. Thank you.
They both followed the nurse to give their blood sample and left the hospital after that.

The next day, Veer was getting ready to go to the hospital again to collect their reports when Bani was on the phone. Few minutes later, Bani cut the call and went inside the room to check on Veer.
Bani : Veer? What's taking you so long to get ready?
Veer : I just threw up again. (He said weakly)
Bani : I'm sure you're having some kind of virus that's why you are vomiting everyday. (Realization hit her) OMG!!! What if you are having coronavirus? (She took two steps away from him)
Veer : What nonsense? Shut up. I don't have coronavirus or any other virus. (Saying this, he tried to touch her but she stopped him)
Bani : Don't! Did you sanitize your hands?
Veer : Bani, I swear I don't have any virus in me. It's my body and I know if there's something wrong with my health or not so don't worry. I'm perfectly fine.
Bani : Mother promise?
Veer : Sweetheart promise. (He chuckled at her and she sighed in relief before going near him)
Bani : Don't worry, baby. You will be alright. I just hope there's nothing wrong with the reports. (She kissed on his cheek)
Veer : I hope so.
Bani : Don't worry. If you are having any serious illness then just transfer all the properties on my name I will take good care of them.
Veer : Oh really? May I know how you will take GOOD care of my properties? (He raised his eyebrow, pulling her closer by wrapping his arms around her)
Bani : Once you transfer them on my name then I-I will- you- I... aaahh.. Stop! (She stuttered as he moved his hands inside her shirt and started drawing circles on her waist)
Veer : Tell me. What you will do with my properties? (He asked in his husky voice while blowing air on her right ear)
Bani : Stop it, Veer. Let's go to hosp.... Veer! (She moaned when he sucked the skin near her jawline)
Veer : Tell me. (He whispered while kissing her collarbone)
Bani : Arghh!! Move away!
She pushed him away with using all her strength and glared at him.
Veer : What happened? (He asked innocently, earning a light slap from her)
Bani : Don't try to distract me. Let's go to the hospital first. (She huffed)
Veer : Okay relax babe. (He chuckled)

They both reached the hospital and climbed down the car but Bani stopped when she received a call from the office. Veer waited for her there but she gestured him to go in first. Bani went in after few minutes and sat beside him hurriedly when he was waiting for his turn to visit the doctor.
Bani : Veer, there's an emergency. I have to attend a video conference now with the HR managers of Delhi branch so can you please get the reports yourself?
Veer : Why? Is there any problem?
Bani : I will explain that to you later. I will be in the car as it's very noisy here. You collect the reports and come to the car directly if I'm late.
Veer : Okay sweetheart. (He gave her the keys and she ran back to the car)
After few minutes, Veer's name was called for his turn. He entered the doctor's cabin and greeted the doctor they met the previous day.
Doctor : Hello, Mr Singhania. How are you feeling today?
Veer : No changes, doctor. I threw up again in the morning.
Doctor : Okay, nothing to worry about it. By the way, where is your wife?
Veer : She's kind of busy right now so she couldn't join us today.
Doctor : Oh okay. But I thought I should disclose this information to your wife first.
Veer : What's that, doctor? Is anything wrong? (He got worried looking at the doctor's frown)
Doctor : No, don't worry there's nothing wrong. Actually I just checked the reports and there's no problem with both of you.
Veer : Oh thank God. (He breathed a sigh of relief)
Doctor : Hmm I think you would like to hear a good news from me, Mr Singhania.
Veer : What's that, doctor? (He frowned)
Doctor : Well congratulations, you guys are expecting. (She beamed at him but Veer was just staring at her blankly)
Veer : What are we expecting?
The doctor did a facepalm and straightened her posture to explain him clearly.
Doctor : Your wife is pregnant, Mr Singhania. It has been 8 weeks since she conceived.
Veer gaped at the doctor without blinking his eyes for few seconds and cleared his throat when her words registered in his brain.

Veer : Really? Are you serious?
Doctor : Of course I'm serious, Mr Singhania. Why would I joke in this matter?
Veer : She's pregnant? (He asked again making the doctor sigh at him)
Doctor : Yes, Mr Singhania. Aren't you happy with the news?
Veer's eyes softened and he smiled while slightly blushing at the news he received.
Veer : No, I'm actually speechless now. I just don't know what to say. (He rubbed his hands with nervousness)
Doctor : Don't worry I can understand. So now it's your responsibility to disclose this good news to your wife. But I guess your wife must be already having this doubt since she would've missed her periods for two months.
Veer : Hmm yeah she told me about it but actually she was having irregular periods since we got married so we didn't take it much serious. (He explained in an awkward manner)
Doctor : Mr Singhania, I'm a doctor and you don't have to feel awkward with me. So can I ask you what's the reason for her irregular periods?
Veer : We consulted a gynec and found that birth control pills were the reason for her irregular periods.
Doctor : Oh I got it. That's alright it's normal nowadays. And yeah don't panic with what I'm going to tell you now. I know it's strange and unusual but there are few researches confirmed that it might be common to have these symptoms.
Veer : I don't get you, doctor. (He asked being confused)
Doctor : Okay listen, you are currently experiencing couvade syndrome which means that instead of your wife, it's YOU who are going to experience the pregnancy related symptoms such as morning sickness, nausea and many more. But as I said earlier, it is common and do not panic.
Veer : It means my wife won't feel this pregnancy related symptoms throughout the pregnancy?
Doctor : No, actually there are still chances for her to get the symptoms too but it's you who are going to experience it more than her until she gives birth to the baby.
Veer : But that's so strange. She is the one pregnant here but why am I feeling the symptoms? (He frowned)
Doctor sighed and leaned back on her seat.
Doctor : Well, there's no exact theories on what causes this syndrome but some suggested that it may be due to psychosocial factors or feelings of attachment towards your partner.
Veer : It means there's no way to stop myself from feeling those symptoms?
Doctor : No, but the advantage for you is you can take medicines to stop your nauseousness whereas your wife can't do it because she's not allowed to take medicines as it may affect the baby.
Veer : Ufff, thank God. I'm glad I'm having these symptoms rather than my wife because she really can't endure the morning sickness and all.
Doctor : Yeah, but be careful. She might feel those symptoms too. I will recommend you guys to check with an obstetrician from now onwards until the child birth.
Veer : Okay, doctor. Thank you so much.
Doctor : You're welcome. And once again, congratulations for the pregnancy.
Veer blushed scratching the back of his neck to which the doctor chuckled teasingly. He nodded taking the reports and quickly left the cabin.

Veer walked to the car feeling euphoric but the euphoria didn't last long as he frowned when he realised the seriousness of the situation. Bani was still busy with the video conference so he got in and accelerated towards their apartment without saying anything to her. Once they reached their apartment, Bani paused the call and turned to him.
Bani : Veer, is everything alright? Any problem? What about the reports?
Veer : Nothing to worry about, sweetheart. She just prescribed some medicines and the reports were normal too.
Bani : Thank God. (She sighed) Okay then, I'm going to the study. I will be back once I'm done with this meeting.
Veer : Okay sweetheart, take care. (He pecked her lips and went into the bedroom)
Veer dialed his mom's number and asked her to drop by his home to which she agreed immediately sensing the seriousness in his voice. She arrived within few minutes and Veer quickly dragged his mom into the room.
Chandrakala : What's the matter, Veer?
Veer : Hmm mom actually I-I... hmm- (He fidgeted with his fingers nervously)
Chandrakala : Tell me, beta. What's wrong? Where is Bani? Did you guys fight again?
Veer : No, mom! She's in study busy with a video conference.
Chandrakala : Okay, now tell me why did you call me here?
Veer closed his eyes, taking a deep breath and opened them back.
Veer : Mom, Bani is pre...pregnant. (He sighed heavily when his mom froze at her spot) Mom? (He waved his hand in front of her eyes)
Chandrakala : Veer!!! OMG! I'm going to become a grandmom! (She squealed loudly making Veer quickly close the door to prevent Bani from hearing that)
Veer : Stop it, mom. Bani doesn't know about this yet so you better lower your volume.
Chandrakala : What? Bani doesn't know yet? Are you sane? How come she doesn't know about her own pregnancy but you knew it? Are you kidding me? (She raised her eyebrow, crossing her arms)
Veer then explained her the whole thing happened since a week. Chandrakala sat on the bed with a thud and held her head with both hands making Veer roll his eyes at her dramatic action.
Chandrakala : So it means you are the one who's going to have all those pregnancy symptoms while Bani will be carrying the child?
Veer : I guess that's what I was explaining you from the past 15 minutes. (He sighed, rolling his eyes at her)
All of sudden, Chandrakala burst into laughter making Veer frown at her.
Veer : Mom!!! (He whined)
Chandrakala : OMG! I can't believe this. My son is going to have pregnancy symptoms when my daughter in law is pregnant. That's so unbelievable.
Veer : Please mom! (He stomped his foot when she burst out laughing again)
Veer sat there frowning at his mom until she stopped laughing at him. She suddenly made a serious face and shifted closer to him.

Chandrakala : May I know why you haven't reveal this news to her yet? Do you think she will not be happy with this?
Veer : I don't know, mom. I think she will be happy but I'm afraid of her reaction since it's totally an unexpected pregnancy. We really didn't discuss about it before. (He said honestly)
Chandrakala : Veer, I'm sure she's going to be more than happy. I have noticed how fond she is with kids when I see her taking care of Yashwant whenever she visits him. She loves to have kids, beta. I'm sure she's going to be happy when she learns about her pregnancy. I think you should tell her now. (She squeezed his hand reassuringly)
Veer : But she's really careless and clumsy, mom. I'm afraid that she wouldn't be able to take care of herself during this pregnancy.
Chandrakala : Then you have to do it for her. Take care of her and your child. (She said emphasising the word 'your child' and Veer blushed at it)
Veer : My child. I don't know why but this word is really soothing my heart, mom. My baby. I'm going to be a dad now. (He grinned, placing his palm on his heart)
Chandrakala : Yes, so don't delay it anymore. Go and tell her now.
Veer : No, mom. It's our second anniversary in a couple of days so I'm planning to reveal this good news to her on that day. She asked me what I'm going to give her this year and initially I was thinking about buying something for her but now I think this will be the best and priceless gift I can ever give her.
Chandrakala : So you are going to keep it a secret for 2 more days? I don't think it's a good idea, Veer.
Veer : No mom, I think it will work. I want to make our wedding day a memorable one this year so I will wait for 2 more days. (He said with determination)
Chandrakala : Okay but make sure you take care of her and she has to be very careful in this condition. First trimester is crucial so you must take extra care of her and the baby.
Veer : Sure, mom. And please don't tell this to anyone else, not even dad. I want Bani to reveal this to our family by herself. (He smiled, hugging his mom with happiness)
Chandrakala : Alright, beta. OMG!! I can't wait to see her. You move, I will go and see my grandchild's mom first. (She broke the hug and walked away to meet Bani)

In the evening, Veer's mom left after spending some time with Vani and indirectly advising Bani to take care of her health with more caution. Veer started preparing their dinner and Bani joined him in the kitchen.
Bani : Baby, what did the doctor say just now? (She wrapped her arms around his waist, taking him into a back hug and placed her cheek against back)
Veer : I told you just now, sweetheart. Nothing serious. She just prescribed some medicines.
Bani : Hmm okay. Do you want me to help you?
Veer : Yes. Just stay closer to me like this. (He said, pulling her arms forward to make her hug him more tightly)
Bani : Okay, Veeru. (She giggled)
Veer : So what was the conference about? Is there any problem at the Delhi branch?
Bani : Not really as it has been solved now. I will prepare a report and forward you tonight.
Veer : Okay baby but don't work too much. You will need to take more rest after this. (He said, turning towards her and wrapping his arms around her)
Bani : Isn't it the other way around? It supposed to be you the one who needs to take more rest. You have been throwing up everyday since a week now. (She poked on his chest)
Veer chuckled at her and lifted her to make her sit on the counter before taking a plate to serve her the dinner he prepared.

At night, Bani was fast asleep but Veer was tossing in the bed being overwhelmed with their pregnancy news. He wasn't able to sleep as he was feeling excited to feel his baby in her stomach. After a long discussion with his inner self, he slowly got up and checked if she was awake or not. Being sure that she was deep asleep, he slowly moved towards her stomach and lifted her top lightly. He caressed there, placing a light kiss on her stomach.
Veer : Hey baby, it's your dad here. I know you are still too small and you can't hear me now, yet I can't stop myself from speaking to you. You know, today your dad is being extremely happy since he found out about you and I'm sure your mom will be happy too when she finds out about you soon. I'm sorry for not telling your mom about you today but I promise I will tell her in two days. Till then, keep growing and make sure come out fast because I'm dying to hold you in my arms and spoil you with my unconditional love. (He sighed and kissed there again) Good night, baby. (He said before pulling down her top and dozed off immediately with a contented smile on his face)
