31. Sanskari Bahu 👸🏻
Hola, I'm back with a new update 💖 There is a new character from this chapter onwards. Hopefully it's going to be more fun and interesting 😜
Morning sun rays peeped into a room where two not-so-innocent souls were sleeping peacefully unaware of a storm is yet to come in their lives on that day. The two souls were belonged to none other than Veer and Bani, the newly married couple who had not celebrate their first night yet. Veer was the first one to wake up when the sunlight shined on his face. He took few seconds to adjust his eyesight from the sunlight and opened his eyes to see a beautiful weird creature sleeping with him. He smilingly pecked on her forehead and slowly moved away from her without disturbing her sleep. He did his morning chores and went to the kitchen to see his mother guiding the servants to work fast there.
In the kitchen :
Veer : Good morning, mom.
Chandrakala : Good morning, beta. (She hugged him and kissed his forehead) Where is your wife?
Veer : She is still sleeping, mom.
Chandrakala : I knew it. She must have slept late last night. (She smirked mischievously)
Veer : Ufff, please don't assume anything, mom. That devil slept off earlier last night. (He said disappointedly)
Chandrakala : What??? Really? (She asked with big eyes)
Veer felt it awkward to discuss with his mom about what Bani did last night so he decided to change the topic.
Veer : What are you doing here, mom? Let them work. You go and take rest first.
Chandrakala : No, Veer. I have no time to take rest now. Your military grandma is coming to visit us today so I have to make sure everything is perfect.
Veer : What?? Military grandma? Really? But why?
Chandrakala : What do you mean by why? Her one and only grandson got married yesterday so she is coming here to see her grandson and his wife.
Veer : Oh no! What about Bani? She doesn't know anything about this military grandma yet. (He rubbed his forehead being tensed)
Chandrakala : Opss, I didn't think about it before. Oh God!!! Veer, faster wake her up and ask her to get ready first. Your grandma will be here in an hour so Bani must make her first rasoi before that.
Veer : Huh? What is rasoi?
Chandrakala : Veer, please don't waste the time. Rasoi is a tradition for a newlywed bride to prepare her first dish after marriage. Now go and wake her up. (She started pushing him)
Veer : But mom I want my coffee.
Chandrakala : You go and wake her first. I will bring coffee for you both to your room.
Veer : Okay, mom. (He left)
At Veer's room :
Veer entered to see his sleeping beauty still sleeping on the bed. He knew it's too early to wake her up but he had no other choice left as he knew about his military grandma very well too. He jumped on the bed and started waking her up.
Veer : Sweetheart, faster wake up. (He caressed her cheek)
No response.
Veer : Baby, there is storm coming on the way to our house. Faster wake up. (He tapped on her shoulder)
She just hummed and smiled in her sleep.
Veer : Jaan, please wake up now. Mom said you need to do something like rasoi. (He started shaking her)
She turned to the other side to continue her peaceful sleep.
Veer : Oye, wake up now or else I will pour water on your face.
No response.
Veer : Okay fine. I know how to wake you up in my own way. (He took the jar of water from the table and poured it on her face to which she woke up with a jerk and shouted at the top of her lungs)
Bani : Ahhhh!!!!!! Who the fu*k poured water on my face!!!!
At the same time, Chandrakala entered the room with a tray of two coffee cups for them and stood still there with wide eyes listening to Bani's swear word. Veer face palmed after looking at his mom in embarrassment.
Veer : Watch your language, Bani!
Bani then opened her eyes and looked at him in horror then she shifted her gaze to her mother-in-law and quickly pulled the blanket to cover her body but to her surprise, she wasn't wearing her blouse but one of Veer's t-shirt. She looked at Veer with wide eyes then turned to look at his mom.
Bani : Aunty, I'm sorry.
Chandrakala : I never thought you would be this aggressive early in the morning, Bani. (She chuckled)
Veer : You should be. I told you many times to watch your language.
Bani : I never say sorry to you! I said sorry because my angel mother-in-law had to listen to my swear word early in the morning. But you deserve it for pouring water on my innocent face. (She snapped back at him)
Veer : I have been trying to wake you up since few minutes but you never listen to me so I had to do it.
Bani : Who asked you to wake me up now? It's just 7 in the morning!
Veer opened his mouth to reply back but Chandrakala stopped him.
Chandrakala : Bani, my dear, you have to make your first rasoi today so please get ready and come down within 20 minutes.
Bani : But why so early, aunty? (She pouted)
Chandrakala placed the coffee tray on the table and went near Bani.
Chandrakala : Bani, my badi ma is coming to visit us today from Pune so please get ready early and make the rasoi. She is a very strict woman and she needs everything to be perfect so please make it fast. She will be here anytime soon.
Bani : Your badi ma? But why you didn't tell me before?
Chandrakala : She informed me last night and I didn't want to disturb your precious time here so I decided to tell you guys in the morning. (She snickered)
Veer's mind voice : Precious time, huh? Yeah, my wife spent her precious time by sleeping and I spent my precious time by changing her clothes.
Bani : Okay, aunty. I will get ready now. And you, I will talk to you later. (She told Veer and quickly took her clothes to the bathroom)
Chandrakala : You go and take your shower in the guest room now. Be clean and neat, Veer. Make sure wear something formal to impress your grandma.
Veer : Okay, mom. (He rolled his eyes and Chandrakala left)
After few minutes, Bani got ready and came out from the bathroom. She searched for Veer but he was not there.
Bani : Where is this idiot now? I need to ask him who changed my blouse into his t-shirt.
She was combing her hair when Chandrakala entered the room with a saree.
Chandrakala : Oh no, you are wearing churidar as I expected. Dear, please wear saree today. Your grandma doesn't prefer if a married woman wears something else than a saree. You need to behave as a sanskari bahu in front of her.
Bani : But aunty I'm not from 40s or 50s like her. I'm 90s kid and how can I wear saree everyday? I'm still 25 now. And I'm already a sanskari bahu. You should be proud of me, you know! (She complained)
Chandrakala : Yeah, I knew it. Please adjust it for few days until she's here, Bani. Please do this for me. She is very strict in this matter and if you don't wear a saree then she will give free lecture classes to you on why a married woman should wear a saree and etc.
Bani : Oh God!!! Aunty, why your badi ma is so strict?
Chandrakala : I will explain it later. Now wear this saree and faster come down. (She placed the saree on Bani's hands and quickly left before listening to Bani's reply)
Bani : Aunty, I don't know how to wear the saree. Please help me. Aunty???
Bani's mind voice : Damn!!! What can I do now? This Bela idiot also left to their home last night. What should I do now?
Meanwhile, Veer entered the room after getting ready in the guest room. He saw Bani doing some research with a saree in her hands.
Veer : Sweetheart, what are you doing there?
Bani : Veer, I need to ask you something. (She stared at him accusingly)
Veer : What?
Bani : Who changed my clothes last night? I remember I was wearing a blouse but how come it changed into your t-shirt this morning?
Veer smirked at her and walked to the mirror ignoring her question. She went near him and turned him to face her.
Bani : I need an answer now.
Veer : Okay, listen. You were sleeping with a blouse which is already open so I don't want you to face any wardrobe malfunction while sleeping so I just changed it into my t-shirt.
Bani's eyes widened in shock and embarrassment.
Bani : So you changed it with your own hands?
Veer : Obviously. (He chuckled)
Bani : So you took advantage when I was sleeping here?
Veer : What nonsense? I'm not a pervert to take advantage when you were sleeping. I just helped you to save your dignity in the morning. See, my mom also was here when you woke up. What would have happened if she saw you with an open blouse? Be thankful that I saved your dignity.
Bani : Oh God!!! You are unbelievable. (She was totally embarrassed)
Veer : I knew it. Just chill babe. I'm your husband. (He winked at her)
Bani : Okay, shut up. Veeru, do you know how to wear a saree?
Veer : Oye, what's wrong with you? I have no habit of wearing saree all. I'm a man.
Bani : Idiot!!! I mean do you know how to help me to wear this saree? Mom asked me to wear this saree now because your grandma will prefer a married woman to wear saree all the time. (She said, rolling her eyes exasperatedly)
Veer : Oh. Yes, I know.
Bani threw the saree on him.
Bani : Then help me.
Veer : Me? Seriously?
Bani : Yes, Veer. Please make it fast. Mom asked me to come down immediately before your grandma arrives.
Veer : Okay but how you want me to help you when you are wearing a churidar now? Go and change yourself into the saree blouse and petticoat.
Bani : Okay, give me 2 minutes. (She took the blouse, petticoat and quickly ran into the washroom whereas Veer chuckled at her clumsiness)
Bani came out wearing the blouse and petticoat. Veer's breath hitched when he saw her sexy curves and he was ogling at her without blinking his eyes.
Bani : Okay done. Faster help me, Veeru.
No response.
Bani : Veeranshu!!!! (She shouted his name and he came out from his la la land)
Veer : Why are you shouting?
Bani : Stop ogling at your own wife. You already embarrass me last night. Faster help me with this saree.
Veer : Fine. (He chuckled and started his job)
He helped her to wear the saree within 5 minutes.
Bani : Wow, I must say you are an expert in this, Veer. You draped the saree so perfectly. Thank you so much, hubby. (She pecked on his lips and went in front of the mirror)
Veer : All credit goes to my mom. She made me to help her with her sarees many times during my childhood and thankfully it helped us today.
Bani : I will definitely thank her for this.
Bani started wearing her mangalsutra and applied vermillion on her forehead. Veer was admiring her new habit through the mirror. She looked perfect like an ideal wife with those mangalsutra and sindoor. She was about to leave the room when he held her wrist and stopped her.
Veer : Sweetheart...
Bani : Veer, I have no time now. Let me go down first.
Veer : You are looking breathtakingly beautiful with this mangalsutra and sindoor, sweetheart. I love you. (He kissed on her forehead)
Bani : I love you too, Veer. (She kissed on his cheek and quickly left the room)
Bani went to the living area to see her mother-in-law and father-in-law sitting there. She greeted Balwant and he greeted her back. Chandrakala quickly took her to the kitchen to let her make her first rasoi there.
Bani : Aunty, what should I do now?
Chandrakala : Prepare any dish that you are expert in, dear. But please make it fast.
Bani : I'm expert in making maggi. Should I do that? (She mocked to get a pinch from her MIL)
Chandrakala : I'm sure you will have to attend many lecture classes from your grandma today.
Bani : Oh no. What should I do now, aunty?
Chandrakala : Do you know how to make aloo puri?
Bani : Yes, I know. Okay then let's make aloo puri now.
Chandrakala : It's not let's. You need to prepare it yourself. And also add kheer in your list please. It's Veer's favourite pudding.
Bani : This is not fair. I just got married yesterday and you are already showing your MIL attitude to me. (She pouted)
Chandrakala : Stop overreacting and faster start your work now. (She said in a stern tone like a MIL does and chuckled inwardly)
Bani : I will take revenge for it from your son, aunty. And yeah since he is also a newly married guy so ask him to prepare his favourite kheer by himself. I'm not going to do it.
Chandrakala : Oh God!!! Why did I find a daughter-in-law like you? I feel bad for my son. (She said dramatically and Bani rolled her eyes)
Bani : Okay, fine. Stop taunting me. I will do it.
Bani started making the aloo puri and kheer for their breakfast. She prepared the dishes within half an hour and placed them on the dining table and at the same time their military grandma gave a grand entry into the Singhania mansion with an imaginary storm behind her. Balwant and Chandrakala quickly rushed towards her to take her blessings.
Grandma : May God bless you both. (She blessed Ballu and Chandu)
Bani stood beside Veer and started nudging him while Veer was trying to maintain a straight face in front of his grandma.
Bani : Oye, Mr Husband.
Veer : Keep quiet.
Bani : Why are you standing like a robot now? (She chuckled which grabbed grandma's attention)
Veer's mind voice : Oh God, this girl could never keep her mouth shut during this serious moment also.
Ballu and Chandu signalled Veer and Bani to fall on grandma's feet to take her blessings.
Veer : Come, let's take her blessings. (He dragged Bani and both fell on grandma's feet)
Grandma : May God bless you both with abundance of happiness, health and wealth, children. (She blessed Vani and they got up from there)
Veer : How are you, grandma? How was your journey?
Grandma : I'm fine, puttar. (She answered in a strict tone while staring at Bani)
Bani gave an awkward smile to the grandma and introduced herself.
Bani : Namaste, grandma. I'm Bani, Veer's wife.
Grandma : What is this, Chandrakala?? (She yelled and Bani flinched)
Chandrakala : Badi ma...
Grandma : This generation women doesn't know how to give respect to their husbands. They are so easily uttering their husband's name without any shame.
Bani showed her puppy face to Chandrakala so Balwant took Bani's side.
Balwant : Sasu maa, actually Bani and Veer are friends since their childhood so they got used to call each other with their names.
Grandma : So what? Now this girl is married to my grandson so she must give him the respect which every husband expects from his wife.
Bani : What nonsense? Is she expecting me to call you Prannath or Patidev like this? (She whispered to Veer)
Veer : Baby, please keep your mouth shut for a while. (He gave her a pleading look)
Grandma : See, we elders are right in front of them but they are whispering to each other without giving any respect to us. Arghh this generation kids are really getting on my nerves!!! (She said exasperatedly)
Bani : Please forgive me, grandma ji. I will respect my husband from now onwards.
Grandma : Good. Stay on your words. (She said in a strict tone and Bani nodded)
Bani : Okay, grandma ji.
Grandma : Chandrakala, why are you not covering your head? See, because of you, your daughter-in-law is also not covering her head.
Chandrakala bit her tongue and quickly covered her head with her saree pallu. Bani also followed Chandrakala's action and covered her head with her pallu.
Veer, Ballu and Chandu looked at Bani in amusement as how did she follow without arguing back while Bani winked at them when the grandma didn't notice it.
Grandma : Chandrakala, what did your daughter-in-law made for her rasoi?
Chandrakala : Badi ma, she prepared aloo puri, paratha, kheer, gajar ka halwa, kadai panner and rajma.
Bani's jaw dropped when her MIL listed out those items while Ballu and Veer were looking at Bani in disbelief. Chandrakala signalled Bani to don't open her mouth.
Grandma : Oh good. Have you all had your breakfast?
Balwant : No sasu maa, haven't yet. We are waiting for you.
Grandma : Okay. (They walked to the dining table)
At dining table :
Grandma, Ballu and Veer sat on their seats while Bani and Chandu laid their plates. After serving them, Bani slowly went near Chandrakala and whispered to her.
Bani : Aunty, when did I prepare all these dishes? I just cooked aloo puri and kheer.
Chandrakala : Shhh, I prepared it earlier just now. Don't say anything to grandma.
Bani : Wow aunty, you saved me today. I will build a temple for you in future.
Chandrakala : You build it in your dreams and now just keep quiet. (She said, making Bani to giggle but she immediately shut her mouth when grandma looked at her)
Grandma : Not bad. Your daughter-in-law has cooked very well. All seems fine except this aloo puri and kheer. I think you should teach her to improve her cooking skills. (She told Chandrakala and Bani glared at her)
Bani's mind voice : How could she say my aloo puri and kheer are not nice? Is she the owner of MasterChef program?
Chandrakala : Okay, badi ma. I will teach her.
Bani : Veeranshu ji... (She called and Veer choked on his food)
Bani : Arey, eat carefully Veeranshu jiiii. (She said, emphasising the word ji)
Ballu and Chandu lowered their head to control their laugh.
Bani : Veeranshu ji, will you try the kheer? Aunty ji said kheer is your favourite pudding.
Veer nodded and Bani served him the kheer. He ate it with too much difficulty as it was not tasty as the grandma said.
Bani : Veeranshu ji, how is the kheer?
Before Veer could answer, the grandma interrupted.
Grandma : Stop asking him questions when he is eating. Let him eat peacefully.
Bani : Okay, grandma ji. Please forgive me. (She joined her hands and apologised mockingly)
The three of them left the dining table after having their breakfast. Bani and Chandu breathed a sigh of relief and sat on the dining table to serve themselves.
Bani : Omg, aunty I must say that you badi ma is the female version of Hitler. Please send her off as soon as possible.
Chandrakala : Shhh, talk slowly. Remember that sanskari bahu matter. Behave as one and impress her.
Bani : Why should I impress her? Am I going to marry her in future? (She rolled her eyes)
Chandrakala : Ufff Bani, she loves Veer a lot so you must impress her to share the equal love from her as Veer. (She chuckled)
Bani : I didn't know that I will have to impress a Hitler lady after my marriage. (She sulked)
Chandrakala : But dear, she is not as strict as you all think. She just follows the tradition and she always expects the married women to behave properly to lead the family in a right path.
Bani : But she is asking me to talk with my husband with respect which is the most difficult thing ever to do.
Chandrakala : But you nailed it by calling Veer as Veeranshu ji. I was trying too hard to control my laugh and you should have looked at Veer's face that time. It was worth watching his reaction. (She started laughing)
Bani : Aunty ji, you are teasing your own son. Should I tell it to grandma ji?
Chandrakala : No!!!
Bani : But on a serious note, please send her from here as soon as possible. I can't survive around a Hitler all the time. The way she is glaring at me is horrible. If looks could kill, I'd be six feet under the ground by now.
Chandrakala : I'm sorry, darling. I can't help you in this matter. She will leave when she wants to so until that we have to bare her here. But trust me, you will understand her soft heart very soon. She can be the best grandma ever.
Bani : Oh God, aunty ji please don't praise your badi ma too much. (She rolled her eyes making Chandu to chuckle)
