Chapter Twenty
When Logan opened his eyes the next morning, he felt warm and comfortable for a reason he wasn't really familiar with. He usually woke up warmly tucked under the blankets on his bed, but this time, another body was on top of him rather than a blanket.
Patton was laying on his chest, snoring softly as he snuggled into him. He smiled a little to himself at the sight. There was no denying that this merman was absolutely adorable. He felt guilty for having to wake him up, but it was already almost nine o'clock and he'd promised Roman that he'd be at the bar around 9:30 AM to introduce them to each other.
"Patton..." he murmured, leaning his head down to speak closer to his ear. The merman muttered nonsense under his breath as he shifted. "Pat, you've gotta wake up."
His blue eyes fluttered open and blinked several times. He seemed to be a little confused by where he was considering this was the first night he'd spent outside of the ocean. "Hmm..." he hummed, sitting up to rub his eyes as he yawned. Logan tried not to fawn over him as he did so. "What hour is it?"
"It's almost nine in the morning," he replied. "We've got somewhere to be in about half an hour, so you've gotta get up."
Patton groaned and fell onto his chest, making him grunt with the weight. "But I don't wanna get up, you're comfy," the merman complained, hugging him more tightly. "On the bright side though, I'm not tired!"
"Well if you're not tired, we should get ready to go," the intellectual young man pointed out, smiling a little.
Their faces were incredibly close together as their eyes met. Patton leaned forward and connected their lips softly, no hesitation in his movements. He returned it just as gently; he was new to this whole soulmates and romance thing.
"You're right," he said as he pulled away. "I wanna meet people and see what it's like to live up here! I bet it's amazing!"
"Well, I should warn you that not everything about the human world is good, Patton," Logan warned, shifting him off of him so he could stand up. "There's many problems with our species and we've caused many problems with the earth because of it."
He frowned at the statements. "I know humans are all nice, but the ones who live here are supposed to be," he said. "Our kingdom used to be more social with humans, but as they became more industrialized and reckless, we fell out of contact with them. I think what really changed things was when the Americans overthrew the queen many years ago. To the Americans, we were a myth. They didn't believe the locals about us, so we withdrew deeper into the ocean and began the policy of never engaging with humans."
"Wow," the intellectual young man murmured once he was finished. "That's really interesting."
"Yeah, so I'm excited to meet more humans! I hope they're like you! You're the best," Patton gushed, jumping up to kiss him on the cheek before dashing off toward the bedroom. Logan blushed as he followed. "I need some new clothes before we head out though."
He nodded and led the way to the closet. The merman frowned upon seeing all the black polo shirts and turned to him with a wide eyed look. "Do you have anything a little more colorful?"
"Well, I do have one of every color of the rainbow, just in case some occasion calls for it," he said, moving all the black polo shirts out of the way and revealing the smaller amount of colored shirts. "What color would you like to wear, Patton?"
"My favorite color is blue!" he exclaimed, grabbing the blue polo with excitement. He grabbed a pair of his brown trousers and rushed off to the bathroom to change.
