Chapter 9: The Clues
Days turned into weeks as Kotetsu found himself increasingly intrigued by the mysterious gestures of his secret admirer. Each token left for him—a note, a favorite treat, a small gift—seemed to be carefully chosen to reflect his interests and personality. The latest surprise was a single red rose accompanied by a poem, left on his desk at Apollon Media.
Kotetsu read the poem, its words touching his heart with their sincerity and admiration. He couldn't shake the feeling that Barnaby might be behind these gestures, but he needed to be sure before he confronted his partner.
That afternoon, Kotetsu sought out Nathan Seymour (Fire Emblem), trusting him with his suspicions. They met in a quiet corner of Hero TV headquarters, away from prying eyes and ears.
"Nathan, I think I've figured out who my secret admirer is," Kotetsu said, his voice low but excited.
Nathan raised an eyebrow, his curiosity piqued. "Oh? Do tell, Wild Tiger."
Kotetsu hesitated, glancing around to ensure they were alone. "I think... I think it might be Barnaby."
Nathan's eyes widened in surprise. "Barnaby? Are you sure?"
Kotetsu nodded, a smile tugging at his lips. "Yeah, I've been piecing it together. The notes, the gifts—they all seem to align with things Barnaby knows about me. Plus, the rose and poem today... they just felt like something he'd do."
Nathan leaned back, considering Kotetsu's words. "It makes sense. Barnaby does care about you a lot, even if he hasn't said it outright."
Kotetsu sighed, a mix of relief and nervousness washing over him. "I want to talk to him about it, but I need to be sure. Promise me, Nathan, you won't tell anyone, especially not Barnaby. I don't want to jump to conclusions."
Nathan nodded solemnly. "I promise, Kotetsu. This stays between us."
Feeling reassured, Kotetsu thanked Nathan and returned to his duties, his mind racing with thoughts of Barnaby. He couldn't deny the warmth he felt knowing that Barnaby might feel the same way about him. But he needed confirmation before he could take the next step.
Meanwhile, Nathan watched Kotetsu leave, his mind whirring with possibilities. He hoped his plan would bring Kotetsu and Barnaby closer together, but he knew they still had a long way to go.
Later that evening, Barnaby sat alone in his apartment, his thoughts consumed by Kotetsu. He had been both thrilled and anxious as he watched Kotetsu discover each token of his affection. He knew it was only a matter of time before Kotetsu figured out the truth.
As he reflected on the events of the past weeks, Barnaby felt a surge of determination. He couldn't keep hiding his feelings forever. He had to find the courage to tell Kotetsu how he felt, regardless of the risks.
But for now, Barnaby decided to wait. He wanted Kotetsu to be absolutely certain before he revealed himself. He knew their bond was strong, but he also knew it would take time for Kotetsu to fully trust his heart.
And so, as the days passed, Kotetsu continued to gather clues, each one bringing him closer to the truth. He treasured each token left by his secret admirer, knowing that soon he would have the answers he sought. And when that moment came, he hoped it would mark the beginning of something beautiful between him and Barnaby
