Decision time
Chap 2 Melody blinked as she heard rapping on her door. Anything before 8:00am was just too early, especially on a Saturday morning. She had her hair wrapped and pinned under a silk scarf, vest and shorts due to the heat, and a foul mood sporting when she opened the door to see Dominic. There he was, smiles and breakfast and, who was behind him?
"Hi my love," placing an innocent kiss on her lips, "I've brought the wedding planner who would deal with everything. Don't think about cost Melody, that is not your problem. Just say what you want and I will pay."
Her mouth was wide open, holding the bag with breakfast while standing looking at Dominic. He breezed right next to her with a middle-aged woman following his every step. She was also smiling and sporting a binder and glasses in her hands.
"So, Melody is it? We have a lot of things to get through, where do you want me to set up?" Dominic chimed in telling her to put the book-binder on the dining table they would be right back.
"What the hell Dom, I mean Dominic!" Melody hurled the words at him upon reaching the bedroom.
"Melody, I'm not having my child be a bastard. One in the family is enough."
The words calmed every angry bone in her body, and the need to sooth his pain replaced it. "Oh Dominic, that was never your fault."
"No need for your pity, I'm organising the wedding and you will be their." He held up his hand to silence me while speaking.
"You don't have to do this Dominic, look at what you have accomplished. This child, our child just needs love and support from the both of us."
"I won't have it Melody. This will be happening," and he stormed out heading to the wedding planner and leaving me to follow in his trail.
She seemed very efficient, Madame Jean Polanski. We went through most items that day which took all of the morning. By noon I was tired of looking at colour coding, cakes and making any decision. Dominic seemed to have lost interest also and started to reschedule another day to follow-up on the rest of the decision making process. I wasn't ready to decide what I was having for lunch either, which seemed such a strain, so welcomed dominic's suggestion to order in.
We were sitting in awkward pensive silence at the table, avoiding looking at each other. He was the first to break the incredible tension.
"Why did you leave me Mel?"
She gulped with the question. She knew exactly what he was referring too yet still decided to look at him questioningly.
"I turned on the bed that morning and you were gone. That hurt."
She had no answer. She couldn't tell the truth that she had panicked, that she was scared, that she just did not think she could be with someone who did not love her. She shrugged her shoulders, hoping to look indifferent and answered, "I didn't love you enough."
She saw the blue in his already blackened eyes and knew the anger rose once again. She became fearful and her eyes furtively looked for areas to flee his anger. He gripped the table and stared at her, thinking that it would change her mind about loving him and then he settled back with a weird calmness.
Smiling he answered, "I still win Melody. I'm still getting you in the end," and got up, walking straight out her door.
She sat there staring at the door hoping he came back in and confessed how much he loved her but it never happened. She sighed, sinking into her chair and letting out a breath. Maybe he would get to love her, she thought as her hand rubbed her tummy. 'Maybe he would get to love us,' she whispered aloud looking at the small bump of her middle section. She hoped beyond each horizon that Dominic would start to love her even after this unorthodox wedding he insist they have.
