Friendship
Katakuri POV
I was in my room on my ship alone, Brûlée already left through one of her bedroom mirrors that she brought along with her. I was waiting patiently for my chef's to bring me my dinner when I heard a small knock on my bedroom door.
"Caption Katakuri, I have your dinner sir." My head chef said nervously behind my door.
"Bring it in." I said watching them set up my dinner for me. My head chef bowed his head while the rest of the men left the room in a hurry, "I hope you enjoy your doughnuts and all the other desserts you asked for Captain Katakuri." He said nervously trembling with fear as he was getting ready to step out of my room.
"Wait," I could see sweat form on his forehead and his body tensed up at the sound of my voice. "Y-yes s-sir, is something n-not to your liking?" He stuttered sweating bullets.
"No everything is fine, I just wanted to ask you a question." I said ignoring his coward like behavior.
"Have you ever had a warm feeling in your chest when you looked at someone and the thought of never seeing them again made you want to go mad? Do you know what feeling I'm talking about?" I asked seriously with my arms crossed.
"Well, uh, yes sir. I felt that way when I first met my wife. I guess you could say most people would call that feeling love." He said chuckling nervously.
I shot him a cold glare and he stopped laughing shrinking in size. I could smell the sweat and fear flowing out of his pores. I was trying my best not to send him flying through the wall, "Love huh,. . . how did you know you loved your wife?"
"Well, when I first laid eyes on her, I just knew she was the one I wanted to spend the rest of my life with." He said.
"Did that help you at all, sir?" He asked tensing up even more. I nodded my head, "you can leave now." He left the room in a blink of an eye.
I sighed when I was alone again. I didn't want to believe that this horrible yet, pleasant feeling was love but deep down I knew that it was.
I have always been told love sends men to an early grave. Not only does love promise you death but it leaves you powerless and weak and I'm neither weak nor powerless. I refuse to allow her to distract me from completing my mission.
If she really is Leon's only weakness then I'll have no choice but to take her against her will. She will grow to fear and hate me just like everyone else but, the thought of her having such negative feelings toward me felt like someone crushed my heart into obliteration.
I should get use to this feeling though, cause a woman like her couldn't passably fall in love with a monster like me.
* * *
After I finished my dinner, I wander around the island for a few hours looking for anything other then the girl but I couldn't get her out of my mind and there was nothing on this island to keep my mind occupied off of her.
There was all kinds of trees and plants that grew all different types of fruits and vegetables but most of them weren't naturally grown here. I recognize some of them.
This is where Leon grows his stash of goodies. To bad Mama only gave me an order to find what he values, not rob him blind.
I sighed, running my fingers through my hair. Its almost impossible to think with all this silence, I haven't seen or heard any animals or insects. There wasn't anything on this island other then a luscious thick green forest hiding a small white house.
To most people this might be paradise but after a while this would become torture for anyone who stayed to long.
How can anyone live on such a small depressing island? How can Leon make her stay here alone? I tried to push the thoughts of her out of my head and focus back on my mission but it was easier said then done.
I decided to go to the shore since it was the only place I haven't checked out yet but, there she was sitting on the shore.
The one person I have been trying to avoid all day and there she is, just relaxing on the shore line.
I was frozen in place mesmerized just watching her like a predator watches it's prey. She could sense I was watching her, just like any prey would but I held my breath and hid deep in the shadows where she couldn't see me. After a few moments she stopped looking for me and I continued to analyze her.
She was strikingly beautiful under the sunset, her silver hair was in a messy bun and she had on a lovely light pink dress that complimented her creamy skin tone. She was stunning and captivating I couldn't stop my eyes from wandering her beautiful body, memorizing every inch of her.
I took a few steps forward without realizing it until the bottom of my foot crushed some leaves and twigs, snapping me out of my trance. I could see her shoulders tense up. My inner voice was screaming at me to back off before she spotted me but my legs refused to move.
Shit! She's going to see me if I don't move! Despite all the yelling in my head It was to late, her head turned slowly towards me. Her beautiful stormy grey eyes stared back into mine. I was expecting her to scream or run in terrier but she didn't, she just stared back at me making my heart feel like it was going to burst out of my chest.
There was no fear or doubt in her gaze just confusion and curiosity. "Hello." She said in this radiant angelic voice smiling up at me. "Care to join me?" She asked patting the sand next to her. She seemed happy and excited to see me, it took me off guard but it made me feel exhilarated.
I didn't know what to say or do, no ones ever spoke or smiled at me the way she did.
This girl is a lot of firsts for me and she's turning my world upside down, making me feel things I never felt before and to be honest, it scares the hell out of me. She scares the hell out of me.
I felt my head nod on it's own before I gave my brain permission to do so but I didn't care at the moment, her warm welcoming smile was worth my senses going insane.
Fae POV
Every step he took towards me made my heart beat faster. He looked hesitant with every step he took almost as if he was waiting for me to change my mind.
He finally reached me and his whole body was tense as he slowly sat beside me in the sand. I never realized the people on the outside were this tall but I personally liked that about him.
Even when sitting down he was still extremely tall but seeing him up closer, made my heart flutter in my throat. I can't see the bottom half of his face that was covered but what I could see was even more gorgeous then I imagine.
I could feel my cheeks heat up and it took me a few minutes before I could work up the courage to speak to him.
"I'm Fae, by the way." I said shyly.
"Katakuri," He said in this deep sexy voice that sent a pleasurable shiver up my spine. I could feel steam coming off my head as I repeated his name again and again in my head.
We sat in silence for a while but, it wasn't an awkward silence, more blissful then anything.
I decided to break the silence after a while, "so what brings you here to this island? How did you even reach this island without your ship being destroyed my the sea kings?" I asked eagerly.
He refused to looked at me as I turned my body towards him and tilted my head to the side, confused to why he hasn't answered any of my questions. I had a thousand questions I wanted to ask but I held back noticing he still wasn't quite comfortable being around me yet.
"I'm on a mission and it's not hard for me to get past sea kings." He flatly stated, acting like it wasn't a big deal.
I felt my eyes widen with excitement. "Wow, you must be really strong but, I hope you didn't hurt any of the sea kings. They can be very territorial and are not very fond of humans, you know." I said clamping my hands together smiling with my eyes closed.
He scoffed, "territorial? Hm, I never thought of it that way." He whispered looking off into the distance.
"Well, they are. It saddens me when I see the scars on their body's that humans inflicted on them. They are peaceful creatures that enjoy their space and privacy." I said and he laughed at me in a mocking way.
I couldn't help but pout and pucker out my cheeks. "What's so funny?" I asked crossing my arms.
"You think sea kings are peaceful creatures? Tell that to the people who have died or have been attacked by those monsters." He said still chuckling lightly.
"They only attack if they feel threatened or you wander into their territory or if they are on the verge of starvation." I said hearing my voice rising. This guy knows how to ruffle up someone's feathers.
"There is no territory on the seas. The ocean belongs to the people who are willing to face the dangers and sail on it anyways." He said almost as if he actually believed what he was saying.
I can tell this guy doesn't like to be corrected and he may not like anyone pointing out he is wrong but. . I don't like his answer, he needs to know he's wrong.
"The ocean belongs to no one, but to the creatures who live in it." I said in a matter-of-fact tone of voice.
Katakuri almost seemed. . happy.
"What? Why are you staring at me like that?" I asked curiously tilting my head to the side feeling the annoyance I felt for him slowly dissipate when I looked into those beautiful eyes of his.
"I never argued with anyone like this before. Most people never talk back to me and they most definitely don't start arguments with me. It's kinda. . fun." He whispered.
"Do. . do I not scare you?" Katakuri asked me hesitantly. I could tell he was nervous or maybe scared of my response. I looked up at him confused, "why would I be scared of you?" I asked tilting my head once again.
He scoffed again, "There are mutable reasons you should be scared of me. I'm a giant scary looking man who could easily crush you with ease if I wanted to." He said seriously.
"If you wanted to hurt me. You would have already done it. . I may not know you well but I trust my instinct that tells me you won't hurt me, at least not intentionally anyways." I said truthfully smiling up at him gently.
His sharp crimson eyes widen with surprise when he looked down into my mine but his eyes soften and his handsome face slowly became red after a few moments. I could see the muscles in his shoulders relax and he finally started opening up to me.
We talked for hours, about his adventures, his large family, where he grew up and I talked about how I never been off the island, Leon, and that I loved to bake. Apparently we are both very fond of sweets. It was the nicest conversation that I ever had but, it was getting late and I wanted to ask one more question.
"So, you said your on a mission and that's why you are here?" I asked curiously drawing katakuri's and my name in the sand.
"Yeah, I was sent out to find information about someone." He said uneasy staring out into the ocean.
That answer grabbed my attention, "Who is that someone?" I could feel my body tense up when I asked and I knew he noticed.
I could tell he was pondering about what to say to me, "I rather not say." He said seriously, so I dropped the subject not needing or I should say not wanting to know.
"Well it's getting late, I need to head back before my brother wakes up and notices I'm not home." He nodded his head in agreement. "I know I'm being a little selfish by asking this but, can I see you again tomorrow?" I asked hoping he would say yes.
"You want to see me tomorrow?" He asked uncertain.
"Well, yeah of course. We are friends now right?" I said feeling my smile grow when his eyes lit up. I couldn't help but giggle.
"I like you. Your funny and sweet and kind. I'd be dumb to let you walk away without asking to be your friend. I'm new at the friendship thing, so forgive me if I'm being to forward." I said nervously rubbing my pointer fingers together.
"Wait, you want to see me tomorrow and you want to be my friend?" He asked almost as if he was reassuring himself that he heard me right. I nodded my head feeling a little embarrassed. Maybe I was being a little to forward.
"Do you. . not want to be friends?" I asked feeling a little disappointed and hurt.
"No! No! No! I mean yes! I mean I'm new at the friend thing too." He was panicking practically choking on his words.
"I'm sorry, I'm not good with. . words, so. . let me start over." I could hear him inhale deeply behind his snood scarf. He seemed extremely uncomfortable and flustered in the situation I put him in.
"Yes, I want to be friends and I would like to see you tomorrow too." He said bashfully, the tips of his ears were glowing a bright red. He was just so cute and adorable I couldn't help but hug his large muscular arm. My body wrapped perfectly around his arm, I didn't want to let go but I focused myself to let him go.
His whole body stiffened with steam shooting out his ears. His handsome face was as bright as a tomato but I was to excited to notice the state I put him in.
"Don't worry I wont tell Leon you're here. He would more likely get mad and kick you off the island, so I'll keep my lips sealed." I said pretending to zip my lips. I stood up dusting the sand off my dress.
"I'll see you tomorrow, Katakuri." I said happily waving him goodbye with a big smile. He still seemed out of it since I hugged his arm but, he gave me a small wave back. I headed back to my house practicing skipping feeling more happier then I have ever felt in my entire life.
