Assuming The Worse
Pudding POV
Where is she? I glanced at the clock again while Brûlée and Chiffon cheered on Smoothie to chug down another glass of vodka on ice mixed with milk and whip cream.
“Come drink with us Pudding, it’s your turn. Come have fun with us.” Brûlée slurred her words, trying to get me to join them. I rolled my eyes because all three of them were drunk off their asses already.
“No, maybe later.” I told her staring at my bedroom door, waiting patiently for Fae to walk in.
“Come on, don’t be a buzz kill. Katakuri is probably keeping Fae all to himself again tonight.” Chiffon hiccupped with a slit red to tint to her cheeks.
“No, more likely she’s late because they are doing the dirty deed right now.” Smoothie laughed hysterically and I wrinkled my nose in disgust.
No that’s not it, Katakuri already called me before they showed up that Fae was heading my way but if I call him saying she didn’t show up, he’ll never allow Fae to come over alone again and lord knows their relationship won’t last if he keeps hovering protectively over her.
I sighed in frustration, “I’ll be back, I’m going to go look for Fae.” I announced out loud but they didn’t even so much as look up at me as they continued cheering each other on to keep drinking. I rolled my eyes and left my room unnoticed.
Once I shut my door I took a breathe of relief, finally some peace and quiet. It was almost midnight and the halls were empty and quiet. What could possibly grab Fae’s attention? I mean I guess just about anything could sway her away, an animal in distress, someone grabbing her and forcing her into a corner. My feet froze to the floor and a cold shiver went down my spine.
Why did that horrible thought cross my mind?! I quickened my pass and I was debating whether or not if I should go to Katakuri’s room but as I was about to walk pass the kitchen, I heard two familiar muffled voices coming from behind the kitchen door.
I stopped dead in my tracks and pressed my ear against the door. “Oh, I’m sorry I’m just nervous. I never done anything like this before.” I heard Oven say nervously.
“It’s okay, just take your time and be very gentle.” A cheery voice replied back to him and it didn't take a genius to know that uplifted voice belong to Fae. I covered my mouth in shock when I imagined what those two could be doing.
What on earth are those two doing together?! I shook my head frantically, no! Theirs no way they both would betray Katakuri like that! I felt like I was going to pass out from hyperventilating. Calm down. . maybe I just heard wrong. I quickly pressed my ear against the door again.
“Yes! Your doing it just keep going at a steady pace!. .” I felt a little blood squirt out of my nose. That’s it! I have to know what those two are doing! I gently pushed open the door and slowly peeked my head in. I thought I was going to fall over on my side when I saw Oven designing pink frosted flower petals on a small white cake and Fae clapped her hands together with a big bright smile on her face, “yay! You did it!” She cheered with excitement and without warning, Oven wrapped his arms around her small waist, lifting her off her feet. I saw hesitation flash across her face for a brief second but eventually she gave in and gave him a friendly hug back, resting her head against his chest. He squeezed her a little tighter almost as if he was savoring the moment and I could tell it took a lot of strength on his part to let her go but once he did he had a prideful grin on his face and I failed to stop myself from snorting out in laughter.
Oh my gosh! Is he proud of himself for making a flower out of frosting?! I caught both Fae's and Oven's attention and found there eyes looking in my direction when they heard me laughing.
I covered my mouth in embarrassment for being caught eavesdropping and I felt ashamed of myself for thinking the worse but I think it was all worth it because the look on Oven’s face was priceless. His ears burned a bright red and he tried to hide the frosting bag behind his back. I never seen him embarrassed before but I’ll burn this image in my memory forever and when I want to laugh, I’ll look back at this moment.
“Oh no! It’s already that late?!” Fae shouted covering her cheeks with her hands as she stared at the clock in shock. “I’m so sorry Pudding. You must have been worried sick when I didn’t show up!” She bowed her head apologetically.
I waved her off and I knew the smile on my face must have been awkward to look at but I did my best to put my acting skills into use. I’m to embarrassed to admit it but I honestly thought these two were doing something they wasn’t suppose to and Fae may not have interior motive other than being Oven’s friend but his intentions are not so honorable and that’s not a laughing matter.
I shot him a quick glare before I spoke to her with a gentle tone, “no it’s fine. I just wanted to make sure you were okay.” I waved my hands side to side and gave her the kindest smile I could conjure up.
“I’m so sorry, Oven. I must cut this session short but I'll admit, you were right,” she smiled at him in way I don’t think Katakuri would approve of. “Teaching you how to bake did put my mind at ease and it was a lot of fun." She closed her eyes and tilted her head, something I only ever seen her do with Katakuri. "Let's pick off where we left off when we get the chance, okay?” She muttered shyly with a rose tint to her cheeks.
Oh no, Katakuri is going to go crazy if he finds out Oven has been spending quality time with Fae. . alone! Not to mention Oven, you sneaky fox! Your trying to swipe Fae away by doing something with her that she enjoys and as smart as that is it's really dumb of you if Katakuri finds out!
Oven had small hearts fluttering in the corner of his livid eyes. “Yeah, of course just give me a shout when ever your free.” He said a little to eagerly but Fae laughed, covering her fingers over her mouth. Uh-oh, I don’t like the way this friendship is blooming and I definitely don’t like how fast these two are getting close to one another.
“Fae! Everyone is waiting patiently for you in my room!” I yelled, braking the thread connection that is swirling together in front of me. Fae nodded her head and headed for the kitchen door. “I’ll be right behind you. I just need to speak with my brother for a moment.”
Her eyebrow lifted up slightly and looked at me confused but eventually she smiled softly at me. “Okay, I’ll see you in your room then.” And once I heard the kitchen door shut, I narrowed my eyes at him the moment I knew she was gone. “What exactly do you think you’re doing?” I hissed and he gave me a dumbfounded look that said he had know idea what I was talking about.
“I don’t know what you mean.” He uttered obliviously as he licked the pink frosting off his fingers.
“You know exactly what I am talking about! You never wanted to learn how to bake before and I saw your fingers grazing her every chance you got! You can barely contain yourself from touching her!” I slapped my hands over my cheeks and drooped them down with my fingers. “I’m serious Oven, your playing a dangerous game. You know Fae belongs to Katakuri and you know as well as anyone, Fae has brought out sides of him that none of us have ever seen but that also means that there may be a deadly side we haven't seen yet as well.” I whispered earnestly and I could see sweat form on his temple.
Everyone sweats if they ever seen Katakuri lash out in pure rage and poor Fae has only seen the surface of Katakuri's dark side but most people haven’t seen his malevolent side. I have only ever seen it once when we was kids but it's a side I never want to see again. It’s rare to get him that upset but if Oven keeps heading down this path, I’m afraid all hell is going to break loose and we will all see a side of Katakuri that no one want’s to ever see.
"You have nothing to fear, we are just friends. I just wanted her to smile again and I accomplished that, so forgive me for being happy for putting a smile on her face." He said sarcastically and I growled stomping my foot. "I'm no fool Oven! I see the way you look at her, I see the way you touch her without raising suspicion, and I see how she's getting comfortable being around you."
He smiled delightfully, grabbing an apple out of the fruit bowl and he throw it in mid-air, "what's wrong with that?" He asked catching the apple and biting into it before walking out the door behind me.
I sighed in annoyance, "everything."
