A Single Drop Of Blood
Katakuri POV
“It’s been three days. Why don’t we have Ivy check her out? I’m not saying this doctor isn’t any good but Ivy’s the best.” I could hear Daifuku whispering to Oven.
“No, Ivy isn’t to be trusted around her. She’s despises Fae with a passion and I wouldn’t trust her as far as I could throw her." Oven whispered back to him.
I rolled my eyes growling, “do you mind? I can hear everything your saying.”
“Sorry.” They both said apologetically at the same time.
“What are you two doing in here anyways?” I asked, growing more irritated by the second.
“Mama insisted both of us be stationed outside of her room and we are suppose to take shifts every six hours, remember?” Daifuku raised an eyebrow at me.
Oh fuck, I forgot about that. “Katakuri, why don’t you go get some rest. You haven’t left this room or eaten a proper meal in three days."
“And I’m not going to until she wakes up. Besides, the doctor told me he wanted to discuss something with me and the way he sounded over the transponder snail, it sounded serious.” I wrapped Fae’s fingers in mine. For the last three days I watched the color slowly came back to her cheeks and her fare skin wasn’t as cold as ice anymore but she still hasn’t woken up.
Dr. Monk says she was completely drained of energy and all she needs is some rest to recuperate but if I’m right, I think she’s releasing to much energy at once when she uses her abilities. She needs to learn to release her energy in spurts. If she can learn to do that then she won’t be completely drained and pass out each time but I’m more worried about how nervous the doctor sounded over the transponder snail.
I heard my brothers sigh and a soft knock came from behind Fae’s hospital door. Oven opened the door, allowing Dr. Monk to enter the room and he had a microscope and a small box of slides with him.
He didn’t even so much as say hi as he rushed into the room, “Katakuri-sama, does Fae-sama have any family?” He asked in a hurry, placing his equipment on the counter.
“No, her parents died when she was young.”
“Oh, I’m so sorry to hear that but does she have any siblings or any other family?”
A low growl escape my throat, “what is this all about?” I demanded.
“Well, I prefer to talk to family about this but you’ll be her husband soon enough.” He glanced over at Oven and Daifuku, “if you don’t mind.” He gestured for them to leave and they both looked at me for approval first. I nodded my head and Daifuku headed for the door but Oven hesitated for a moment, giving Fae one final glance before following suit behind Daifuku. I heard the door click shut and my focus went straight to the Doctor.
“You sounded worried over the transponder snail. . is there something wrong. . with her?” I asked, hearing the fear in my voice.
“No, there’s nothing wrong with her, absolutely nothing. She’s in perfect health but it’s what I didn’t find and what I found but I can’t quite make out what it is. I have done over a dozen test and I discovered something.”
I felt my eyebrows wrinkled together, “what do you mean?”
He held a glass slide in his hand, “this is cancers cells and this,” he held another glass slide up. “This is healthy red blood cells from a patient of mine.”
“Okay, what does this have to do with Fae?”
“I’m getting to that but I want you to see what happens when these two meet.” He said seriously, putting the blood samples together under the microscope. “Come look.” He insisted.
I sighed, and looked into the microscope lenses. I could see ugly purple cells devouring red blood cells. “Okay, I see it but again, what does this have to do with Fae?”
“This,” he held a small glass container of blood in his hand. “This is Fae’s blood. Watch what happens when you put a drop of her blood on the cancer cells.” He gestured me to look again.
I huffed and once again, looked into the lenses but this time I could see Fae’s blood cells disintegrating the cancers cells. “Okay? So what does this mean?”
He glanced at Fae who was still sleeping peacefully, “let’s talk over there.” He whispered softly and the look in his eyes was severe. I nodded my head with out hesitation.
We walked into the room next door and he shut the door behind me, “Katakuri-sama, this isn’t possible. Blood cells are not suppose to do this but a single drop of her blood, cured this cancer. I don’t know what’s in her blood but I tested her blood on other sickly samples and her blood cured all of them. It’s extraordinary and people would pay a fortune for a single drop of this.” He looked around nervously. “Katakuri-sama, if people higher up were to find this out she’ll be in constant danger for the rest of her live.” He whispered and I could feel the blood drain from my face.
~Well, it’s not exactly you they want, it’s what’s in you they want.~
Leon, he knew. I couldn’t figure out why he was so obsessed with her staying on the Island other then his selfishness to keep her to himself but I knew it was something more then just that. At first I thought it may have been because of her powers but that’s no reason for the Government to be targeting because she has devil fruit powers but this. . this makes sense.
Dr. Monk put Fae’s blood container into my palm and I narrowed my eyes at him, “you could have stolen this and made a fortune so, why didn’t you?” I asked skeptical, debating whether or not if I should kill him here or wait for him to leave.
“She saved my family from being crushed in our home during the chaos.” He said seriously and I could see the deep respect he had for her in his eyes. “I can never repay her for saving my family but if she ever needs anything I won’t hesitate to pay back my debt.”
I sighed, I can tell he was being genially serious. I sighed again, I think Fae is rubbing off on me. I’m growing soft but I’ll be stupid to just trust him at his word. I’ll have someone keep eye on him and if he gives me any reason, any reason at all. I won’t hesitate to kill him.
“Keep her safe, Katakuri-sama.” He spouted seriously, glancing down at his watch in his pocket. “She should be waking up any time now and she going to want to see a familiar face.” He smiled kindly, opening the door but when we walked back into Fae’s room her bed was empty and the window next to her bed was wide open.
My heart sank deep into my stomach, “Oven! Daifuku!” I shouted their names and they came barging into the room. “Have the entire island put on lock down-" I cut myself off when I heard cries coming from the town. I didn’t hesitate to jump out of the window and I ran straight to where all the noise was coming from.
I could see people running the opposite direction I was going and I grabbed a random running civilian, “why are you all running from the docks?!” I demanded to know and I could see the fear in his eyes when he stared back at me.
“T-there's HUG Sea King’s down at the docks and they are all going crazy! I never seen so many in one place b-but there’s some crazy girl down there trying to get them under control!”
Fae! I dropped him and ran to the edge of the island to find hundreds of Sea King’s swarming in the ocean and Fae was standing on top of the water in the center of it all as they circled around her. “Fae!” I ran to the end of the docks, grabbing her attention.
“Stay back Katakuri! Something really has them spooked and they won't hesitate to try to harm you!” She shouted at me and again I found myself in a useless position. She opened her mouth and began to sing softly to them and I could hear the roars mellowing down. She continued to sing in a language I couldn’t quite understand but the lyrics were beautiful coming off her lips. The Sea King’s slowly submerged underneath the water and the only on left above the water was Azure.
“It’s okay, I promise I'm okay." She whispered to him softly and he leaned his massive head down to her as she rested her hands on the sides of his snout. "Everything is going to be okay." She continued to soothe him and he shrunk in size, wrapping himself around her forearm. She took a deep breath and strided towards me. "I don't know what's going on but something's scary is coming this way and it has the Sea King's on edge." She told me seriously, standing in front of me.
"You shouldn't be standing, let alone walking on the water and putting yourself in danger again." I scolded her, lifting her up off her feet.
"I'm not a child. I can walk just fine and if I didn't come out here the Sea King's would have sunk this island under the water to get to me." She said seriously, meeting my eyes.
"Why would they do something like that?" I asked baffled by her words.
"I just told you, something is scaring them. They want me off the island but I can't leave if this islands in danger." She whispered to herself and I could tell she was lost in thought as her eyes glossed over.
It has to be Leon that there sensing. I could feel my grip tighting around her and she let out a puff of air. "Katakuri, can I get something to eat, please. I can't even think probably because my stomach literally feels like it's eating itself." She groaned, resting her head against my chest.
I could tell she still wasn’t at a 100%.
“Well, then I better get my girlfriend something to eat.” I smiled, pulling my scarf down a little to kiss her forehead. “I’m so happy that your awake.” I nuzzled my nose into her hair.
“Please, don’t ever lock me out from getting to you again.” I whispered into her hair. “I never felt so scared in my life and the thought of losing you. . let’s just say I never want to feel that dreadful feeling again.” I held her even closer to me as I slowly strolled up the docks.
“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to make you feel that way. I promise I won’t do it again. . okay?” She laid her hand against my chest and I nodded my head with satisfaction, “I love you so much.” I whispered into her ear and she opened her mouth to say something but her belly started growling. I could see her cheeks turned a beautiful shade of red and I chuckled lightly, “let’s get some food in your stomach before you wither away.” I kissed her cheek one last time before pulling my scarf back in place.
She nodded her head in agreement, “Can I ask you something?"
"I told you already you can ask me anything. . and I hope you can start opening up to me more about your abilities." I told her without looking down at her and I could feel her tense up a little.
"I have been practicing and I'm learning to be more creative with my powers but I promise, I have told you everything that I know."
I was silent for a moment but I nodded my head, "tell me what you wanted to ask me."
She looked up at me, "who was the guy you had waiting in my room?”
I froze, "what are you talking about?" I asked, gazing down at her seriously.
She titled her head, "I woke up but my eyes were still a little blurry but I felt him touching my face and when my eyes adjusted, he was gone."
"Did he say anything?" I asked trying to keep my anger under control.
"Yeah he whispered 'soon' but I don't know maybe I was just dreaming it all up because he was gone in a blink of an eye." She said, shrugging her shoulders.
I kept my mouth shut because I didn't want to scare her but I won't chance it. I'll have Brûlée scout the whole island out for an intruder and I'll inform everyone else to keep an eye out for anyone who may stand out or is suspicious in any way.
"Katakuri, is something wrong?" She asked me curiously.
"No, I'm just worried about you but I'll feel better when you get food in your stomach." I strolled into a pastry shop and everyone greeted us with weary smiles.
"Get me one of everything on your menu and make it fast." I demanded and everyone who worked in the shop, didn't hesitate to get to work as I set Fae down onto her feet.
"We have a lot to talk about but first let's get you something to eat." I glanced down at her but she was already gone, when my eyes finally found her. She was stuffing her face with sweets.
I don't think she heard what I said but I couldn't help but smile behind my scarf.
I love this care free attitude of hers but the smile slowly disappeared off my face. Her blood, the Sea King's, the mysterious man in her room, Leon, and who knows what else will pop up. I love this girl but damn, trouble seems to love this girl a little more.
