Chapter 7: Goodbye Saviour

That's bullet number sixteen.

He told himself as a sharp, small bullet pierced his abdomen. At first all he could feel was the jarring impact knocking him off his feet. He landed on the ground with a thud. Winded. He couldn't breath. And then the pain came, sharp and hot.

I guess there isn't really a difference between getting shot fifteen times and getting shot once. They both hurt like sh*t.

He gritted his teeth and got up. One hand clutching the wound where blood was gushing out. In other he held his sword. He saw a stunned Jurie looking at him, surprised and grateful. Then like the door to Elysium he saw the way out. He gestured to the door.

"RUN!" he bellowed to Jurie. He saw another panel flip open revealing another gun. Luckily they got out of the way before it shot again.

But there were more to come. More panels flipped open. More shots were fired.

"What the hell is this? Ever heard of good old fashioned fighting?" he asked in a slightly arrogant tone. Jurie caught onto his meaning. Rami was implying that the Capulet's couldn't fight.

"Well at least we have geniuses on our side, rather that boof-heads with rusty old swords."

Touché thought Rami wincing.

"B*tch" he muttered swerving out of the way of a bullet

"B*st*rd" she muttered jumping to avoid another projectile, clearly offended at being called to a female dog.

Both assassins managed to get out without further injuries. When they did Rami collapsed. Blood that was gushing before, managed to slow to a trickle, but his torn dress shirt was now drenched in it.

I'll make it. He reminded himself. I have faced fifteen of these, another one shouldn't make a difference.

So once again he stood up, only to see a Jurie with concern etched upon her beautiful features. He knew this wound was different. It was a wound earned by saving a rival. But it was also different physically. The pain was more searing...a combination of shattered nerves from ripped flesh, chipped bones, burning from the bullet's chaotic energy dispersing into the surrounding flesh. His other wounds didn't feel like this. But then again those weren't shot with machine precision.

But he hid his pain for her sake. He didn't want her to worry too much. So he smiled at her in reassurance. But she didn't seem reassured. She seemed to know that the pain was worse than those fifteen bullets. He must of hit something major.

Is that guilt in her eyes? He wondered. Is she guilty about putting me through all of this?

Finally one word escaped her lips "Fool" but then she smiled. That was when Rami knew he had gained her trust. He had saved her life and gained her trust. He didn't know why but it made him feel happier.

Then he felt the hot trickle of blood turning cool as it ran down his hands and arms as he was clutching his wound. He looked at his hand and smiled. The blood lines looked very artistic. Beautiful in its red macabre. But then he started to feel dizzy. A tourniquet. That's what he needed. He looked around nothing would serve well as a tourniquet. Then he looked at his dress shirt. It may be soaked in blood but it will do.

Then instantly he wished he paid more attention to his mother when she healed the wounded. He had no idea how to do one.

"Can you do a tourniquet?" he asked Jurie.

Jurie smiled proudly "Too easy."

He unbuttoned his shirt and handed it to her. He was surprised he was able to even do this much.

She looked at the shirt in disgust holding delicately between her forefinger and thumb. "Seriously Rami?"

"That's all we have at the moment. Unless you want to go through all that again just to get a piece of cloth." He retorted.

"Fine" she grumbled. Then in a matter of seconds she had tied up a fairly decent tourniquet around his abdomen.

"Are you sure you'll make it back to your lodgings?" she asked.

But before Rami could answer her he collapsed against the side of the wall dazed, clutching his abdomen. The pain was horrible, blinding. He wondered briefly if he was going to die. Strangely it hurt more than the fifteen other bullets. He could feel himself falling into darkness. But he fought against it. Because if he fell into darkness, he would never return to the light ever again.

That was when they heard the thudding of many feet coming their way.

"Sh*t! Sh*t! Sh*t! Sh*t!" Jurie cursed under her breath as her mind whirred, thinking of a way to get her rival out of her house.

Then an idea came to her. She knew a shorter quicker from here to her room. She'll take him there.

She looked helplessly at Rami, collapsed against the side of the wall, clutching his abdomen.

He had taken a bullet for her. If that didn't deserve her trust she didn't know what would. Jurie knelt next to Rami, pulling him up. His body warm yet slick, the skin surprisingly soft. "Get up. Follow me." She whispered.

Rami faintly nodded his head before he brought his legs forward one after the other. One after the other Rami that's all you need to do. You're on autopilot.

He groaned against Jurie's shoulder, muffling his cries. The pain must be really bad.

"Shhhh..." She put her fingers to her lip. "Come on. You can do it."

She watched him bite his lips in concentration. Or was it pain. Sweat trickled down his forehead, gathering at his brow.

Jurie walked him towards her room once again and laid him down on her bed. A sense of de-ja-vu hit her. She muttered "And you're back again. Wow you must really like my room."

Rami chuckled, and then wheezed, coughing.

"Come on. Let's get you inside."

For the next hour Jurie cleaned Rami's sixteenth wound and bandaged it. The only difference was that this time he was awake, watching her every single move.

"Umm...thanks Jurie." His accent was a bit off, so he ended up saying Ju-re-a. "Thank you really, for everything."

She shrugged her shoulders. "It's okay." Jurie placed her first aid kit back into her cupboard and turned to face Rami. "You can rest here for one hour. Then there's a door, in here that leads to the garden. Once you're out in the garden it should be easy for you get out, especially if you're as good as you seem. There are only a few guards lining the outside of the estate and three that roam the garden, you should be able to get past them easily." She took in his injuries. "I'll be there, distracting them."

Rami nodded his head, slightly disappointed of the fact that he would be leaving his savior soon. So this is the end huh...I will most likely never be able to see her again. He shook his head, clearing it. Why am I thinking this?

One hour flashed by so quickly and before he knew it, he was sneaking out the door with Jurie in front of her talking amicably to the guards. Jurie turned and sought his eyes in the darkness, nodding her head. "Go" she mouthed before turning back to the guards.

Rami swept past the guards into the dark night and climbed the wall effortlessly, making his escape. His successful one. He looked back at the castle whispering a woeful. "goodbye."

Jurie watched as Rami's figure disappeared behind the wall. Goodluck. Don't get shot.
