Chapter 10: Wallac
Chapter 10: Wallac
Like all of the Capulet machines the submarine was ahead of its time. And Like all modern day submarines, the Capulet Sub was illuminated with red light and the corridors were separated into different sections, the rooms; small compartments, that were far from comfortable. Jurie's heels, echoed down the corridor as she searched for a suitable room to stay in. Finally settling down in a room in the west wing, a fairly, spacious room with a queen sized bed, a TV, and a study desk, with a built in tablet, Jurie flopped back onto the silk covers of the bed, the letter still in hand.
She couldn't believe that anyone would come to know of Lisla's Blood Diamond. And to even think that anyone would be torturing people for its whereabouts had never crossed her mind. Now, not even 100 years later, someone had heard of it and was seeking it, for none other than its power.
Lisla (or Lisé as the French called her) was a well-remembered historical figure amongst the Montague and Capulet families. She had been the first woman to fight for both of the rivalling families. She had been a persuasive woman, convincing both of the families to fight with her against one common enemy. 'The Unspeakable.' And yet now it was slowly coming back to power. The blood diamond, which had once belonged to Lisla and was said to hold her power of persuasion inside of it was being sought for, and not for the right reasons.
Her mind wondered over to 'The Unspeakable' brother, whom she had bought with her onto the submarine. He was now all patched up and she had hoped the she could trade in Sweden, in return for them to cease their search. It would most likely fail, which was why she relied heavily on her back up plan; hence the presence of Takashi. They had trained everyday that past and earlier this morning. Both of them also planned to train for at least 5 hours of the 15 to 16-hour long trip.
The intercom beeped above Jurie's head and a voice spoke loudly.
"Kagehime, you are needed at the holding room. Sweden would like to speak with you."
Jurie groaned and slid off the side of her bed, out the room door and down the corridor to where they were keeping Sweden. Seeing Jurie, the guard stepped aside and unlocked the door. The younger of the two 'Unspeakable' brothers looked up as Jurie stepped into the red room. She took in his appearance. Bleach blonde hair that had once been perfectly styled sat in a deflated mop on his head, streaks of grease and other dirt stuck in his hair. He had eye bags under his black eyes, and his face was pale a clear indication of his lack of sleep.
Sweden's bloodied dress shirt had been replaced with another, which hadn't been buttoned up properly, revealing part of the white bandage that Jurie herself had re-wrapped this morning.
"Well, well well." She said to herself. Then added aloud, "You look like crap."
There was a gentle chuckle, "how nice of you to find my discomfort amusing."
Sweden looked up at her, his black eyes, twinkling with laughter. "You don't cut any slack on people who are gravely injured do you?"
Sweden, despite his label, as 'The Unspeakable', was nothing like his older brother and father. He was a charming, young boy, the same age as Jurie and needless to say, she found it rather interesting that he was so...
Normal.
"You asked for me?" Jurie demanded, crossing her arms across her chest.
"I did." He replied simply. "I was just hoping for someone to talk to."
"Then talk to the wall." She deadpanned. "I mean that's what they're there for."
Sweden cocked his head onto one side. "I can't tell if that is sarcasm or truth."
"Both."
"Ahhhhh. Okay then." He turned to the wall. "Hello wall, how are you doing?" He stopped pretending to be waiting for an answer, after all, walls couldn't talk, he thought.
"I am good thanks." A robotic voice rang out in the room as the side of the wall that Sweden was facing glowed. "What is your name?" It asked.
Sweden jumped back out of his chair, crashing to the ground, moaning as he clutched his injured stomach. "What the HELL?!!!"
Jurie watched as the scene unfolded before her, laughing silently at his every reaction.
The wall continued. "Hello, 'What the HELL' my name is Wallac and I am going to be your companion for the next 16 hours."
Sweden crawled hesitantly towards the glowing wall and jabbed at it.
"Ouch that hurt! Stop!" Wallac cried.
Wallac was a computer engineered wall, trained to feel all the human emotions and physical touches, as well as the memory and mind of a human.
"Thank you Wallac, I'll leave him to you." Jurie called out to the wall. "Please take good care of him."
Sweden turned to Jurie, confusion written all over his face. "WHAT?!!" He yelled out. "No no no, please don't leave me here with this spectre."
"Ouch that hurts my feelings Sweden." The wall commented, as an image of a hand on a heart appeared on it. "Good bye Kagehime, I will take care of him don't worry."
And with Jurie pulled the door closed, walking back to her room.
~~~~~~~
Both his parents were asleep the entire household were asleep at the moment.
Good thought Rami. At least no one will know I'm gone.
He felt slightly dizzy. But there was something in his gut (not his injury though that did contribute to his discomfort) that felt pain. Pain for something that was going to happen. Something terrible. He didn't question these premonitions. They always came true. Rami was going to follow Babbar, because he feared that something awaited him that was dreadful. He waited outside the stables in silence dressed in all black; even the symbol of the Montague's was embroidered with the darkest shade of blue.
The symbol of the Montagues was that of a lion's head, in its mouth it held a sword entwined in two desert roses. He waited for Babbar to go out.
Come on Babbar it doesn't take you that long to choose a horse.
Finally his older cousin chose a mare the colour of maple syrup by the name of Aphrodite. As soon as Babbar left, Rami sneaked into the stables leapt on Bucephalus and raced after his cousin. He ignored the pain in his abdomen and galloped South.
"Assalamu 'alaykum brother!" he shouted after his cousin.
Babbar stopped his mare. He turned to face his cousin who was smiling sheepishly and raced towards him. " 'Alaykum assalam." He said once he reached Rami. "What on earth?! You idiot! Go back to Heliopolis right now!"
"No!"
"Why not?"
Rami gave him a meaningful look. He's had his premonitions again. Thought Babbar.
"Well as long as you keep quiet and don't do anything foolish." Said Babbar with finality he galloped of ahead with Rami at his heels.
When Rami finally caught up he asked "So what's the mission about?"
"'The Unspeakable' are torturing a tribe for the whereabouts of the blood diamond."
Rami face saddened at the thought of the torture. Allah only knows how many women have been raped and how many men and children have been killed.
Then he gave a twisted ironic smile. "They'll never get it. King Louis XVI and his wife Marie Antoinette are looking after the diamond."
"Haven't you heard Rami?"
"Heard what?"
"There is so much social unrest in France at the moment. I believe the 'Unspeakable' suspected at first that the diamond was there. But now he's in Africa because the Royal family realised and sent him this way. The unrest has died down but when the Unspeakable finds out he'll put them under house arrest and torture them for the whereabouts."
"There are only four more objects until he has unprecedented power. The sword and shield are still with us and the book and crown are with the Capulets."
Babbar nodded.
"Then we have nothing to worry about." Said Rami relaxing a little.
"Idiot. You're forgetting the diamond has the power of persuasion. He could easily persuade us to give it to him."
Rami smiled sheepishly once again. "I knew that."
Babbar snorted, but it sounded more guttural almost like a growl.
"How long will this take?" asked Rami.
"Quite a few hours if we move fast."
"I'll feel sorry for the horses."
"They can cope Rami but the tribe may be dead if we rest."
Rami nodded. Being a Montague always means you do your duty.
Usually it takes months for people to go from Egypt to South Africa by horseback but one must remember that the horses they possessed could glide on air. They were blessed by Allah, as the Montagues believed, with almost supernatural abilities.
"Rami?"
"Yes brother."
"Stay behind me at all times."
"But..."
"I know your pride and arrogance won't let you but you must. We can't stand to lose you brother."
~~~~~~~
The sub came to a screeching halt on the south west side of Africa and Jurie jumped up from her bed, fully equipped. Katana, spikes, kunai, shuriken, yumi (bow) and bo-hiya (arrows) all safely tucked somewhere inside her clothes.
As they stepped out onto the harsh heat of South Africa, a wind swept around them, blowing Jurie's hair, this way and that. Takashi looked out with determined eyes and before taking his first step in the direction of the tribe, with Sweden trailing behind him.
The ground was hard under their feet, and dust blew in their eyes, making them squint as they staggered around.
"Jurie, stay close to me." Takashi called back to his cousin. Needless to say, his cousins, petite figure, was struggling even more than him.
Jurie growled in frustration and quickly caught up with Takashi, holding firmly onto Sweden's arm.
A blurred silhouette of a hut came into view and the three of them picked up their pace, rushing, almost running to get to it. Reaching the low, branch gate the three pushed the gate open and strode inside. There were bush huts everywhere, made of mud, some had very large leaves and some of small twigs and tree branches.
"Takashi." Jurie pulled her cousin aside. "Go check on the tribesmen and women."
He nodded and was off. Then she turned to Sweden. "Right. Let's get you back to your family."
Sweden nodded numbly two thoughts crossing his mind. They would either reject him for failing or they would take him in and he would be punished even worse than the injury that Jurie had given him, mercifully. She took his hand and pulled him into what looked like the largest hut. Most probably the chief's hut.
Halfway to the hut, people dressed in pure white suits started appearing on both sides of them, staring them down. The guns pressed against their waists did not go unnoticed by Jurie. Her eyes flicked from one person to the next and knew immediately that the Amaarwa Tribe had already been infiltrated by 'The Unspeakable.'
She cursed silently, tightening her hold on Sweden's hand. "Don't look at them, just walk forwards." She commanded to him, her voice just slightly above a whisper.
A man with a large physique stepped in front of them, barring their way. His face was clean shaven, his eyes narrowed in suspicion. There was no smile or trace of friendliness on his face. His hair was buzz cut and he too wore the pure white suit, except with two golden discs on each shoulder.
"Stop." He commanded in a cold voice. "You are trespassing."
He towered over Jurie's 5 foot 4 and glared at her, his hard brown eyes flashing forebodingly. He must've been taller than 6 feet. The man turned his head, and caught sight of Sweden, who matched his heated gaze.
"Ah." The man scoffed. "Our prince charming as returned." He yelled out at the soldiers surrounding them. "With the girl he was supposed to kill too!"
There was laughter all around.
"You haven't picked up the Arabian Knight too have you?" The man taunted.
Sweden clenched his fists and sucked in a deep breath. "No."
"Oh what a shame, would've have like to play with him the way we'll be playing with her." He jerked his thumb in Jurie's direction.
"I'm here with Sweden to make a trade." Jurie's voice came out firm and clean. Not betraying an ounce of disgust or anger she was feeling inside.
The man quirked his eyebrows at her. "A trade?"
Jurie stepped forward, despite Sweden's protests. "Yes." She continued. "A trade."
"And what could you possibly have to trade?" He hissed, bearing a paedophile worthy smile.
"Your own boss, for you to let ALL of the tribesmen and women go." Jurie proposed, her voice steady.
The man gave a low, humourless chuckle. "You speak as if we want him back." He said. Jurie's eyes widened. "In the 'family', there is no room for failures, girl, so we do not need him!"
Sweden bowed his head in shame, his bleach blonde hair covering his black eyes, that were slowly filling with tears.
"Now that we have that cleared." The man turned to the soldiers. "What should we do with them? After all they did trespass on our territory."
Eyes turned to the barred arena where rabid, vicious animals were kept and trained.
"The arena!" They all cheered together. "Throw them in! Throw them in! Throw them in!" The soldiers chanted.
The man bared his teeth. "The arena it is!" He shouted. "But only for Sweden, our fallen prince! The girl is mine to do as I please!"
Sweden snapped up to stare at Jurie in alarm. "NO!" he bellowed. "LEAVE HER OUT OF THIS!!"
"Quiet boy!" The man thundered, socking him across the jaw. "Bring him into the cage and let the animals loose!"
Soldiers flocked to Sweden, pulling him up and dragging him to a barred arena, where violent dogs bared their teeth and growled menacingly. Unlocking the gate, they threw Sweden in and readied to unlock the cages of wild animals.
"Wait!" The man commanded. "Give him a sword and shield won't you. I want to see him fall to his knees and die, failing once again, even when he has weapons!"
A soldier, took a sword off a rack and another handed a shield to Sweden.
"Commence!" The man boomed as the soldiers pulled up the gates holding back the animals.
Jurie watched in horror as ten dogs, with their teeth a rusted brown, salivating at their mouths ran to Sweden, snapping their jaws. She held her breath and willed the images to leave her mind when she felt a hand creep up her leg, a musky breath against her neck. Screaming she elbowed, loosening his grip on her and turned to face him.
"Maybe I should introduce myself." He smirked. "The name is Ajax and you will get very well acquaintance with it. Or maybe I'll get you to call me master?"
Jurie backed away, covering herself, feeling absolutely violated. Ajax stalked her, like he was a tiger and she was his prey. She frantically looked for a place to hide and saw the chief's hut. Bolting to it she slammed the door and pushed up whatever chairs and tables she could find against it. A dark shadow loomed over her and she screamed.
How had he gotten in? I blocked the door!
Her eyes flew to a window, where a palm leaf had been pulled hastily away.
"Now now now!" Ajax jeered. "I can't have my dessert running away can I?"
Jurie felt around for a stick, a pan, anything to use as a weapon, cursing fluently in Japanese. She had left a majority of her weapons with Takashi. All she had were her spikes which she had used to pin the door to the walls.
Her hand closed over a stone. Bringing her arm up she flung it at Ajax's head. He slowed down, faltering, clutching his head as blood poured from it. His eyes flashed with rage, promising pain and wrath. He charged at her, pinning Jurie's small body against the wall. Pressing his body against hers, he brought his mouth down to her neck, licking it before biting hard onto her skin, splitting it.
Jurie screamed as blood seeped out of his bite mark. He continued his journey down, his hot breath against her neck, hands exploring her body, squeezing, scratching and licking. His frustration grew and he ripped away her black coat hands roaming around her chest.
"Why do you wear so many layers of clothes girl?" He snarled, tearing away Jurie's black turtle-neck.
Jurie squeezed her eyes shut. "So it's harder for rapists to rape me." She bit out.
Ajax roared, slamming her head repeatedly on the mud wall. Jurie felt blood, still warm trickle down her head. Grabbing her by the neck Ajax, flung her across the room, before striding over to her. And pulling her up by the neck, pressing her against the wall, choking her as his other hand continued its journey downwards. Silent tears slid down Jurie's face warm and she struggled to keep herself from breaking. She brought her legs up, kicking, only to be pushed back down onto the ground so that Ajax hovered over her. His grip on her throat tightened and black dots started to seep into her vision.
Jurie struggled to breathe as his hold strengthened. Searing hot pain bit at her throat, and her chest constricted fighting for air. The darkness was close now, beckoning her into its calm, painless state. Seconds past and the pain intensified until she couldn't hold on anymore.
Her eyes fluttered closed, sealing away the door to consciousness...
