For Gatsby and Daisy, George and Myrtle, their relationships were skating on thin ice with the trouble both couples go through facing problems like infidelity and leaving a past lover as the times have changed their feelings.
Myrtle, unable to deal with George's accusations of her infidelity runs off into the street, where at the same time Gatsby and Daisy were driving away to leave and be together, not long after admitting to Tom of their relationship.
Tripping on a stone Myrtle falls forward. Daisy who was driving the car speeds by, almost hitting her. She stops the car a few miles away after the realization, slamming on the breaks.
"Was that who I think it was? My gosh I almost hit her!" Daisy turns her head in dismay to double check and sees George running to Myrtle's side to help her up.
She and Gatsby have a quick conversation on whether they would go and help Myrtle or leave, but in fear of being confronted by Tom, Daisy insists they leave, with Gatsby taking the wheel instead.
Not wanting to leave Myrtle injured with George struggling to help her, they get into an argument that ends up with Gatsby driving back to help them and they return to the city.
The following day, Gatsby has a proper talk with Tom and Daisy, finally able to convince her to get a proper divorce. He tells Nick of his past and how he once asked Daisy to wait for him.
Tom is able to accept Daisy's wish for them to separate for her to be with Gatsby despite their young daughter's sorrows. Once all was sorted out Daisy starts living with Gatsby at his mansion.
The events lead Nick to get back into writing. He visits Gatsby one last time to bid farewell, as to his cousin Daisy, and returns to New York.
Upon returning to New York he writes the Great Gatsby, recalling his experiences from when he first arrived, and met the mysterious neighbor who hosted extravagant parties yet no one knew who he really was. James Gatz, a penniless romantic who came back with a name, but James Gatz was who Nick really admired.
He built a home and place for himself starting with nothing but hope. Sometimes Nick would wonder if Daisy had no hope in him to have married Tom first despite Gatsby telling her to wait. If they are happy now though, then that's ok.
But was Tom really ok with it? Nick knew that he'd feel anxious to return not knowing what to expect knowing the type of person Daisy's now ex-husband is. But what he is expecting is that if he goes back there, he'll have more to write about Gatsby for sure.
