Matt Sorum and...Dizzy Reed?
Here we go again, I'm sitting here, in the dressing room, organizing all my products altogether, listening to Aerosmith rehearse before their show tonight. But as I sit here, I'm a new person.
I'm not a young kid who loves cosmetics and backstage passes.
I'm a married woman who's a beautician and a wife.
Felt weird, felt really weird.
Well okay, not weird...but different.
It wasn't the same place Slash and I met, but the feeling of the music rattling your bones and vibrating your body was always the best nostalgia. I was sitting there, looking at all the scarfs Steven had brought. I wasn't doing clothes anymore, Stevens wife took care of that. But I was still doing makeup and hair, which was my number one, and my real skill.
Slash had just gotten back with the band again after months being missing in action with all the guys, and I guess the fresh new beginning wasn't really to everyone's liking.
" He wants to what?" I say, my mouth full of some flaming hot Cheetos.
" He's adding a piano to the band, this guy named Dizzy," he sighed, he was not into that. I think he had had already had to deal with Steven and his deep dark abyss, and straightening up himself that it was a lot on his plate in the first place. Then he's gotta deal with Axl and his "plans for moving foreward" He never wanted to handle Axl and wind up getting into an argument with him. It was too much wasted energy in his eyes....So he just let it slide.
" Huh, alright. And you've got that new guy too, right? That Matt guy you introduced me to..."
" Oh yeah, yeah he's here."
" How does everyone else feel about it?"
" Dunno, I think that everyone's not really in favor of it, but you know, Axl's really for it, and everyone else is really just coping with it...whatever."
" I see what you mean. A piano doesn't give the band a rough street style hard rock n roll feel. Give it a try and see how it goes, you might even like it!" I laughed, " C'mon, it could be worse, it's a pianist, not like a whole damn orchestra or something." He chuckled, "I mean you don't know how things will turn out."
He sighed, " Alright, I gotta head off to rehersal...."
" Alright, is it at our house again? Axl's house?"
" No," he chuckled, " It's Axl and me over phone. I gotta phone him up so we can clean up this song we've been workin' on the past few weeks. I'll call you later, okay babe?"
" Sounds good to me, love you."
Slash's 25th birthday was coming right around the corner; and I wasn't sure what to do for him. Our birthdays were both in the summer; his was the 23rd of July and mine was the 17th of August. I hoped that Aerosmith and Guns would be able to collab again...but the issue is that their schedules clash so much, it's merely impossible to compare schedules. That's only been for this our. Needless to say, Steven was a bit skeptical about Axl's random absences during rehersals...that really pulled on his dick I guess. But all in all, I miss being on the road with Slash. It's comforting.
I worried for him because he was starting to feel some remorse about Steven; I think they all did. (Except I'm not sure about Axl) Because Steven did bring a good source of liveliness to the bunch, and the music. Steven always said, " Your band is only as good as its drummer" and it's pretty logical. A drummer sets the scene; it's gives it the rhythmic capacity that fuels the other opponents. Steven could only give off that energy and vibe for so long, and I worry for him myself. He was always smiling and he seemed pretty carefree and sincere; and I always thought that that was a pretty cool quality in a rocker like him.
