Baby Girl.
And just like that, it happened again. I was pregnant. I turned 25. Our girl was to be due in the summer of 1991.
At this point I was about four months in, Steven about bawled when I told him. It was finally happening. Slash and I both told Ola, and I told my mom...they were all ecstatic.
But ALL of them agreed that to ensure the miscarriage wouldn't happen again, I needed to stay the fuck home. No causal wine, no secondary smoke... I needed to be clean. Thankfully, the next tour was planned for the summer of '93, so I was able to take my time.
At the same time, Guns was about to embark on a massive world tour that would end up being the best and worst of all of them.
Since I was almost housebound, while everyone in my family was either touring or traveling doing studio work everyone would call me to check in and make sure I was okay. It was like a rotating schedule, and I enjoyed that people kept me in the loop.
Especially my own mother in law, Ola. She happened to call me the most while Slash was on tour.
" How's the baby doing, love?"
"Oh she's doin'...so far it's going well. I can still see my feet, but the heartburn is really fucking killing me. I'm not holding my breath though, I'm really trying to be careful."
" Sounds about right, so you're just laying low in the house?"
" Kinda, yeah. Its a little lonely over here, not gonna lie."
" Well, you can figure out what you want and how you're gonna provide for your girl, I'm sure you'll be fine financially right now...but time is money too. Your daughter isn't gonna have normal parents, you're going to be living busy lives."
"That's true."
"Have you thought about work outside of all these tours?"
"Funny you ask that...I think it may be a while till I'm on tour again...and I've been looking at...well maybe...starting up my own shop? Here in LA, it'll give me somethin' to hustle for. I don't want to just work for somebody in a salon. I want my own. There are vacant buildings everywhere in the city, I've been in LA since '81. I know what makes a business successful and I know plenty of women who I could recruit."
" I see. Have you talked to your husband about it at all?"
" Only briefly, I've mostly been thinking about it while he's been away."
" This is a big project...there's no doubt you can make it work, what do you say in a couple of weeks, if you're feeling alright, we look at retail spaces to rent and go from there? I know a couple people who could help and I definitely know some paying customers who would support your business."
" Ola that sounds amazing."
