Chapter two: Magic
Years had passed since that incident of her father's wand, which the little girl did not remember even a little.
It was a harmonious morning, the whisper of some people traveling outside their home could be heard through the window of little Black's room while accompanied by a scorching sun slipping through the curtains that would surely begin to melt the snow that still fell frequently. Calynn rose with the glow of the star on her face as she gave a yawn, she thanked it was a weekend because she could see Lily in a couple of hours. Although she knew Thana, Lily and Severus for a long time, she couldn't remember the exact day she had met them, it was probably when she was much younger and that is the reason, she couldn't remember it.
She got ready and went down quite emotionally for breakfast, she was full of energy and joy, she knew that Lily would not attend school and could meet her if Druella and Cygnus allowed her out.
"Good morning," said the little girl, arriving at the place where her father was sitting, with his breakfast at his side as he read a newspaper that he kept instantly when he heard little Black's voice.
"Until you wake up," her mother's voice added before leaving a dish in the dishwasher and sitting down at the table to finish what little was left of a juice that didn't look appetizing at all.
"It's Saturday," the little girl replied, suppressing an intonation of joy. "I want to greet Lilianne, she doesn't go to school today," Calynn said hopefully.
"That doesn't mean you don't have things to do," said the woman, rising from the table once more.
"But I don't go to school," Little Black replied confused, "Why have you never told me the reason I don't go to school if I'm only ten years old?" She asked slightly annoyed and confused.
"I already told you that school is not something you need, everything you know you have learned thanks to your father," said Druella, rolling his eyes, "you don't need to be instructed on issues that are not of the greatest relevance," she finished seriously.
"But when I grow up, what am I going to study?" Asked the distraught little girl.
"You don't need to go to school so you can get ahead, it's not essential if you know where to look," said the woman, losing her patience. "Enough questions."
Calynn just looked down and began eating the toasts prepared by her own mother in silence. She knew that every time she asked about something related to the study, she always got the same answer and it was no surprise that her mother avoided her doubts and decided to change the subject. After so many years she could not get a true answer about his absence from school and his desire to know the school persisted because, according to what Lily said, the school was incredible.
After the topic discussed, her father only limited himself to smiling, it seems that he did not know the reason that he stayed at home every day.
She rushed to wash the dishes to go out to the garden and reach her friends trying to avoid his mother's comments, apparently there was something about them that Druella did not accept.
Calynn said goodbye to her father in a hug and prepared to go out the door of the house, went down the steps of the porch with great care since the fear that they would break at any moment always kept her in mind. She walked along the same sidewalk that he had walked almost daily throughout her life, or so she supposed, only that he was now covered with copious snow and then turned slightly to the left in the direction of the majestic tree that, although It was slightly dry, it never ceased to exist, the snow on it only managed to make it a more special one.
She was going to greet Lily and Severus who were in the garden, sitting at the foot of the tree while their clothes turned white because of the snow attached to them.
Calynn hid the best he could behind a circular pillar belonging to one of the houses on the street and, curiously, looked at their hands, from where it was, they seemed to be closer together than she had imagined.
Little Black settled down next to the column and leaned her back on her as she sharpened her ear, she knew that if she tried to get a little closer, her friends would separate instantly. Once she was as close as he could without being seen, she began to listen.
"Hogwarts is like school?" The redhead questioned sweetly.
"You mean Muggle school?" Asked Severus confused.
"I talk about school, where we learn and have other classmates," Lily said, trying to explain. "But what is Muggle?"
"The word Muggle refers to people who have no magic, that is, those who are not like us," said the boy with greasy hair.
"But Severus, magic doesn't exist," the redhead replied, almost laughing out loud. "Magic only exists in fairy tales," Lily argued, looking confusedly at the boy who was blushing.
"What didn't you tell me that you've managed to do things without you knowing how they happen when you're too upset?" Said Severus.
"Yes, sometimes with Tunney," she replied as she tried to analyze where the boy wanted to go.
"That's magic, Lily," Severus exclaimed seriously. Calynn thought he had mistakenly heard the boy's words, but confirmed what he had just heard when Severus repeated his words. "When we are little we cannot control our magical powers," He paused slightly and then continued, "You will see that when we enter Hogwarts we can develop them correctly, we will have a wand!" Exclaimed the boy with enthusiasm, looking at the eyes of his friend.
"I don't think so, Severus, it's too unreal to be true," Lily said as she shook her head, it was clear that the girl had not believed him.
"When is your birthday?" Asked Severus, trying to remember a specific date before his partner answered, but it was impossible.
"In less than twenty days, on January 30," the redhead replied indifferently, "but what does it have to do with Hogwarts?" She finished slowly, the name of that school, apparently fictitious, was quite complex.
"That day your letter of acceptance will come," Severus said with enough emotion in his words.
"How is it that you are so sure?" Asked Lily, frowning. With each word the child added, the explanations of the supposed magic and the school became even more confusing.
"Because I already have mine," the boy revealed as the sound of the paper movement reached little Black's ears.
Calynn was dying of curiosity to be able to see that letter from close up to be able to deduce if what Severus had told so much was really true, she tried to peek her face slightly through the pillar, but it was impossible for her to observe any detail from such a distance. With curiosity eating her, she decided to get up from there and leave her hiding place as naturally as possible.
"Lily, Severus," Calynn said with a smile on her face as she approached them both at a rapid pace.
The moment Severus looked back at the little girl, he kept the envelope of that letter as fast as he could and then gave her a smile, with Lily imitating him a few seconds later.
"Calynn, how are you?" The boy greeted slowly as usual.
"What did you read?" Calynn asked, going straight to the point, waiting for an honest response from one of his two friends.
"Only a piece of parchment we found in the grass," Severus lied indifferently, "nothing that has any relevance."
"All right," little Black replied without regrets, a simple letter was not going to alter the little girl's mood, maybe Lily would tell her the truth after a while. "Do you want to play?"
Severus and Lily looked at each other for a moment interpreting their eyes and then turned to little Black and nodded.
They entertained themselves with small children's games as usual, since they had met Severus that night in the garden, they had included him without preamble and since then he followed them everywhere, or at least that's what Calynn thought. For some reason she couldn't remember it quite well. However, even though Severus had known the three friends for so long, it didn't take away his shyness towards Calynn and Thana, which didn't bother them, but only cataloged as strange.
After a great time of play and fun, the group of friends sat down to chat while the girls shook their hair to drop all the snowflakes they had captured while playing their snowball fight.
Although they both loved cold climates, they couldn't help but shake a little thanks to the amount of snow around them, their bulky coats of both were not enough to slow the climate pass around them. Only at that time Severus watched his friends with sweaters and coats so burly, while he liked to wear all kinds of sweaters and bags throughout the year, including during the summer that is when the girls asked more about that custom of Severus, something else they classified as weird.
"My mother has told me that school is not as great as it seems," Calynn told Lily as she put on her coat cap. "She has said that studying there is in vain"
"Why would she say such a comment?" Asked Lily, "I love school, it is the only place where they teach me everything a little, I love subjects and teachers," Lily continued to speak enthusiastically as she listed everything she liked with the fingers of her hand. "The only thing that would make her better is if you, Severus or Thana were in it," Lily finished melancholy.
"Thana does not attend school either?" Asked Calynn incredulously, every morning she didn't see her justifying that she was in class, but she realized that it wasn't.
"She said yes," Lily said, reflecting. "I don't remember the name, but it's a school a little far from here," she shrugged.
"By the way, where is she now?" Asked Calynn this time, surprised.
"She told me that she had a meeting with her family today and that she wouldn't be until late at night, I suppose she didn't have the option of not accompanying them," said the redhead as she looked at Severus for his opinion, to which he only corresponded with a slight smile.
They chatted a little longer until the afternoon reached them, it was time for Calynn to return to eat at home, possibly they would scold her if she did not arrive on time. The three got up and said goodbye first to Severus since their home was the furthest of the three, leaving the girls totally alone.
"Severus is a great boy," Lily commented as they walked. The road home was not too long, so Calynn decided to ask what was so curious before it was too late.
"What were you watching with such curiosity before I reached you in the garden?" Calynn looked at Lily without blinking, she wanted me to tell her the truth or, at least, part of it.
"It's something Severus wanted to show me, some nonsense he had read around," Lily said with a frown. "I doubt it is very important"
"What makes you think it's nonsense?" Calynn asked, trying to get Lily to elaborate a little more or at least mention a little about what they had talked about Hogwarts.
"I don't know, I just didn't believe him," Lily said as she stopped, "I have to go home, see you tomorrow, I hope Thana can come this time." She said goodbye and then turned a corner and headed to one of the nearest houses across the street.
Calynn stared at Lily for a moment and then just sighed and looked away to return home, hoping not to hear her mother's nickname.
