Chapter Twenty-Seven: Afternoon at the Lake
When they reached the common room after the night in the forest, Meryl had left the infirmary and waited for them to arrive from the Forbidden Forest.
"How nice you could get out of the infirmary, friend," Calynn said to the blonde.
"How was the Forbidden Forest?" Asked the blonde.
"It's good to exercise your feet," the little girl joked, remembering when she was chased by the centaurs.
"And your teeth have returned to normal size?" Asked Frank.
"I think so, although I notice them bigger than before. But I am grateful that it did not remain as a beaver," said the blonde, smiling so that they could observe the whitish teeth.
After explaining to Meryl what their search for the Forbidden Forest consisted of, they went to sleep in the cozy beds.
The days flew by, the first Quidditch game was approaching and the students were elated.
The cold began, as well as the enthusiasm for Halloween that was only fifteen days away. Frank was the one who hated the flight class because until the third class he couldn't get on the broom, unlike Lily who had been very good. In the class that is best for Meryl, it is DCAO although she does not put any effort into any subject, Calynn had a great ability for DCAO and Charms, although not as much as Lily who had already read half of all the books and studied as many hours as she could, it was something the girl really enjoyed.
The Halloween feast was approaching, the second graders had explained to the first graders what it was and now they were eager for it to arrive.
"Lily, what page did he say?" Meryl asked the redhead during potions class one day before the Halloween feast.
"Hello, my dear students, today we are going to learn how to prepare the Boil Healing Potion, also known simply as a Boiling Cure Potion, for this you will need the following ingredients," explained the potions professor.
The man said all they would need, the steps to elaborate it and told them to begin.
They began to crush the snake fangs. Meryl struggled with the fangs while Lily beside her crushed them very easily moving quickly to the next step.
Meanwhile, a table next to her was Frank and Calynn, the boy had approached Little Black's cauldron to help her with the ingredients while smiling slightly at her.
They followed the normal class. When Lily was already in step three, Meryl was still trying to crush the fangs with great force as if that would help.
"This is a waste of time!" Expressed the blonde pounding her fangs even harder when one of them shot off while some students watched it. Mary MacDonald stepped back to prevent the fang from falling, but she was scared to collide with a Slytherin girl named Amelie, the fang fell into the eye of the Gryffindor and pulled back with much pain pushing the Slytherin who collided with her cauldron. This caused this to fall spreading all the potion all over the ground causing some students to move away so that the potion would not burn them.
"My potion..." Slytherin's brunette girl expressed as she suddenly changed her hair color from black to dark blue. "You ruined my potion, Gryffindor girl, now fix it."
"I will not do your job for you, Slytherin girl," said the Gryffindor without avoiding sounding in disgust as she covered her sore eye.
Slytherin's little girl apparently didn't want problems because she didn't answer Mary, but she began to cry silently while at one end of the class where James and his friends were, one of them began to laugh out loud while Lily and Calynn approached the dark-skinned girl to comfort her.
"Who has been the cause of all this?" Said the potions teacher.
Most of the students turned to see Meryl causing the teacher to notice the culprit.
"The fangs have been to blame, if they were softer and less restless, this wouldn't have happened," the blonde said laughing.
"This is not funny, miss..." the teacher reprimanded by asking her last name.
"Johnson," Meryl replied.
"Ten points less for Gryffindor," said the professor, while some students replied with the exception of James and his companions, who began to congratulate Meryl for her great merit. "Potter, Black, Lupin and Pettigrew, if you keep laughing, I will take more points from your house, I'm serious."
And, as expected, the boys laughed even louder in search of losing more and more points.
"Ten points less, now, I want those who still carry their potion to continue doing it while I take Miss MacDonald to the infirmary," the man ordered out of the dungeon.
"My potion," repeated the girl who had put her hair back to a dark black tone, "she has ruined my potion."
"Don't worry," Lily said.
"Thank you, you could be my...
"Amelie!" Called a blond boy from one end of the classroom. "It is not worth joining with mudblood and traitors to the blood, especially if they belong to Gryffindor," Malfoy finished dragging the words.
The girl ignored him, apparently, she hadn't cared about the boy's comment.
"I don't have blood preferences; do you want to be my friends?" She asked shyly.
Both Gryffindor nodded and helped the little brunette clean and collect the spilled potion on the floor.
The class behaved very well during the absence of the teacher, since no one was willing to play and everyone was dedicated to his potion, except James and his friends who dedicated themselves to telling jokes and recreating the scene of the "flying fang" as they called it. When the professor returned it was not for a long time, since he took Meryl with him without saying a word.
"Lose all the points you can, Johnson!" Sirius said to the blonde before they left the classroom.
Lily finished her potion before all the other students. She got up and went to sit next to Severus who was writing in a book with his potion also finished. The boy blushed and closed the book quickly as he turned around looking for nobody to pay attention to them.
"I missed being with you, Severus," the redhead said.
Severus was, for some reason, too nervous as he looked around as if seeking help.
"Are you all right, Severus?" Asked Lily worriedly.
"Oh, yes," stammered the increasingly flushed boy having heard those beautiful words.
While at a table farther from where they were, Calynn and Frank were. The boy helped her friend finish her potion that was one step away.
"Have you finished all your homework?" Frank asked Calynn.
"I'm only missing the Transformations', but I think I'll do them later," the girl replied sweetly.
"Do you want a walk on the lake before nightfall?" Frank asked shyly.
"Okay, I'll be there, do you think it's good at five?" Confirmed the little girl.
"Yes. I think your potion has been better than mine, just see the color, mine looks like vomit," said the boy in shame as he endured the laughter.
"Maybe that's the potion, Lily's is very different from mine," Calynn replied.
"Well, students, I hope you have prepared a great potion. I will check it out and each person who has the perfect potion will raise five points to his house," Professor Slughorn mentioned enthusiastically.
The class ended up resulting in the only people who had a perfect potion were Lily, Severus and Amelie who contributed five points to their respective houses. All the students of Gryffindor left together except for Lily and Calynn who had dated Severus and Amelie who liked each other instantly and even managed to get the brunette to say a few words because she was apparently very shy since she didn't like to talk much.
"Are you a friend of Lucius?" Asked Calynn, trying not to sound disgusted.
"Yes, in fact, I have many friends from different houses. Do you know Edgar and Amelia Bones from Hufflepuff?" Asked the brunette.
"No, we don't know many names of Hufflepuff or Ravenclaw," Lily said.
"They are my friends, also Alice Howell of Gryffindor and some of Ravenclaw, and you of course," Amelie replied, turning the corner.
They kept walking until they reached the Great Hall.
"I think we should separate," Severus said wistfully, pointing to the tables in each house.
"All right, I hope to see you later," said Little Black and then sat down in their usual places, leaving a space for Meryl who had not returned since Horace had taken her, which had been enough.
James and his friends sat in front of Lily and Calynn. Since the week where they had acquired the punishment of the Forbidden Forest the boys had become accustomed to sitting there every day during lunch and dinner.
"Hello, friends," James said doubtfully.
The girls greeted them with one hand.
"Do you want a candy?" Asked Sirius, handing them a purple box with a kind of jelly beans inside.
The girls nodded and took one. Calynn ate it and spit instantly, pouring a glass of wallflower quickly and then swallowing it completely. James and Sirius laughed out loud.
"What's funny about that? What was that sweet so disgusting about?" the girl replied between annoyed and enduring the laughter.
"A Bertie Bott bean, I think you have had a vomiting taste, but apparently Lily has not had the same fate," James explained when he stopped laughing.
"Mine tasted like cherry," the redhead commented as she sucked her fingers on how delicious that candy was.
"Remus, do you want one?" Sirius asked his friend who was next to him, but did not answer him since he was very concentrated doing the duties of History of Magic. "Moony!" Exclaimed Sirius louder, attracting the attention of those present at the table.
"Moony?" Repeated Lily confused.
"I'm sorry, it's a nickname we've put among friends," James explained quickly.
"What do you want, Padfoot?" Said the boy with scars on his face reluctantly.
"Can you get away at least an hour from homework?" Replied the boy, taking the book and closing it tightly.
"Bins has left a whole scroll about werewolf behavior," Lupin replied, trying to reopen the book.
"As if you didn't know the subject perfectly," Sirius escaped by making Remus look at him while shaking his head, "I mean you've read the whole lesson so you need the help of the book, you don't even have to study to the exam."
Lily and Calynn looked confused by that awkward moment that had formed.
"Meryl!" James greeted suddenly making the girls leave their self-absorption, changing the subject successfully, the arrival of the blonde had been the best excuse. The blonde returned the greeting with a smile on her lips. "You should join the club, we are trying to lose more than eighty points in one day," the glasses boy proposed.
"Perhaps they have already achieved it, let's say that my talk with McGonagall has not been entirely visible, but I have managed to lose twenty more points than I had already lost in potions and a punishment next Friday," Meryl said proudly.
"Visible?" James repeated confused.
"Let's say that suddenly nothing was visible in McGonagall's office, literally," the blonde replied, leaving the boys even more confused. "I threw two smoke bombs when she didn't see me," Meryl explained before laughing non-stop along with Sirius, James, Lily and Calynn who imagined McGonagall coming out of the smoke.
"What a good idea, what is the punishment?" The glasses boy asked.
"It is only to accompany Filch to clean some hallways of the school," said the blonde without giving importance.
"We will do our best not to spend it alone," James promised, winking.
"As you wish, maybe you can join in the fun of bothering Filch," the blonde teased and then began having lunch trying to stop laughing.
After lunch, the friends dedicated themselves to doing the Transformations homework, although this time there was no Frank to help them.
"I am sure that the next class of Transformations the teacher will ask me everything that comes to mind, and I who have less knowledge than a gnome will not know what to answer," said the blonde.
"If you want, you can ask me," the redhead told her friend as Calynn closed her book and rose from the floor. "Are you going somewhere?" Lily asked with a smile.
"I've stayed to see someone," the girl blushed and with a smile on her lips that gave her away.
"Frank?" Lily asked as her friend broadened her smile that she interpreted as a yes. "Have fun," the redhead replied with a smile on her lips this time.
Little Black went down the steps as quickly as possible, being careful of some joking steps and being careful when the stairs moved.
She reached the lobby in less than three minutes and ran out the great doors that led to the schoolyards that were still whipped by an air that cooled gently without it being too cold. She kept running until she reached the lake where she had met the mermaid a few weeks ago. When Frank arrived, he was already there with a tablecloth on the floor, had brought some candy and was sitting ready to have a nice picnic.
"Hello, Calynn," he greeted her from where he was inviting her to sit.
"Hi, Frank, what a nice place to hang out," the girl observed, looking at every part of the landscape.
"I thought it was convenient to clear some of our homework and school work," said the boy, giving his friend a chocolate frog.
Both opened it and began to eat it happily without saying a word.
"Dumbledore has come out on the chrome," said little Black astonished, breaking the silence.
"Great, Dumbledore seems like a great magician," said the boy.
"It's not the director for nothing," Calynn added before taking another bite of the chocolate frog. "It moves! But it disappeared."
"I got the one from Uric the Oddball, I will keep it for a task in the History of Magic," said the boy, storing the chrome in his tunic bag.
When they finished the frog, the silence reigned in the place except for some birds and animals that were heard in the distance and the whisper of the wind that moved the water of the lake creating a beautiful sound.
"Do you want?" The boy asked Calynn, taking her out of his thoughts.
"No, thanks," the girl replied, noting that it was the same box Sirius had offered a few hours ago. "I have already encountered an unpleasant taste in those candies."
"I have separated them, the disgusting flavors in one box and in another sweet flavors, they taste good," the boy said, but the little girl still shook her head, "trust me," Frank finished, smiling slightly.
"All right, but only one," Little Black conceded, taking a candy that tasted very good.
"Once you start, you can't stop," the boy warned, and he was right because in less than ten minutes the box was empty next to them.
"Where do you buy so many sweets?" Calynn asked.
"My parents send them to me every week by owl," Frank explained, taking out another box of beans. "Do your parents not send you candy or some magical artifact?" Asked the child.
If a howler is considered a magical object then Calynn could say yes. She remembered perfectly well the only messenger she had received from her parents.
"No, they don't usually write to me," said the girl, coming back to reality.
"How strange, but if you want, I can give you some sweets from time to time to sweeten your day a little," Frank finished a little flushed.
"Thank you," Little Black replied, unable to take her eyes off the boy's brown eyes.
Frank moved closer to her and hugged her gently.
"I love you," the boy whispered as they watched the beautiful lake in front of them.
"Me too, Frank," the girl replied with pure truth, "very much."
He said goodbye to Frank after one hour, she was walking back to the castle, there were fewer and fewer students outside and the weather began to cool more and more. The owls began to be heard in the distance as well as some crickets announcing that the night was near. She reached the oak doors and entered the hall with a smile on her lips ready to go up to the common room to tell Meryl and Lily everything when a voice stopped her.
"You're finally back," Lily spoke quickly from one end of the hall.
"Lily! I have a lot to tell you, it was a great meeting, Frank and I ate a lot of sweets and..." she started to explain the little girl, but she was interrupted by her friend.
"Dumbledore is looking for you, McGonagall has said that it is urgent, that it cannot wait until tomorrow," confessed the nervous redhead and then lowered her voice, "I think it has to do with your parents, I am afraid of that."
