Chapter thirty-nine: Frank.
It was night, the wind was blowing around her while she wished it didn't rain, she kept walking with her eyes full of tears as she followed a platinum bluish bird that flew just a few inches away from her, went deeper into the forest while only the girl's sobs were heard until they reached a tree where the bird landed on the ground. The little girl imitated it and sat next to the bird, it began to remove grass from where they were sitting and Calynn joined to help him until she saw a trapdoor full of spiders, opened it with enough effort because of the weight of the same trapdoor of where more spiders came out accompanied by other insects, the little Death Eater jumped the horrified insects and then peeked through the trapdoor to see what was inside, but a long darkness was the only thing visible. She said goodbye to the bird that was next to her and threw himself into the trapdoor, felt like she was falling and falling when she saw the characteristic canopy of her bed in Gryffindor's bedroom, beside her was Lily, who had woken up to her friend to shut up her screams.
"What time is it?" Asked the sleepy girl.
"Fortunately, it was only a couple of minutes before we woke up so don't worry," the redhead reassured her with a smile on her face.
Once both girls were entering the dining room they started talking like every day.
"Then," Lily began, "what did you see with Dumbledore yesterday?" twitched.
"We begin to see basic spells, such as Lumos, Rictusempra, we review Expelliarmus and seeing that I could quickly master them we begin with some of more difficulty, on Saturday we will see the enchantment Expecto Patronum, one of the most difficult according to Dumbledore himself," the girl explained.
"How impressive, before you were afraid of wands..."
It was true, only a few months ago that every time she watched a wand it was hidden, but now she had lost that fear without realizing it.
"You're right, I hadn't noticed," the girl replied.
"And today will they meet at the usual hour?" Asked the redhead.
"No, yesterday he told me that he had some pending issues with the Ministry of Magic so he won't be able to find me at that hour." She shrugged as she took another bite. Little Black observed the group of James who had sat some more remote places than their old friends. Calynn noticed that Lily saw them too, but decided to look away, shaking her head.
"What about Meryl?" The girl asked when noticing the absence of her friend.
"She has forgotten the duties of potions, the only class we have today, can you believe it?" Commented her exasperated friend.
And just a few floors up there was a Meryl awake in the solitary Gryffindor common room, but she wasn't doing any potion duty, but just holding her wand and reading a book while repeating the spells.
Now, as never before, Slughorn commissioned them with five scrolls of each of the subjects learned in class, all because of Potter and his friends had taken some of the teacher's material to add to the potion, causing an outburst that came accompanied by flames that burned everything around him, apart from that Alice Howell had to go quickly to the infirmary because her tunic and part of her hair had been burned during the explosion. They only learned through other Gryffindor students that the punishment assigned to Potter and his friends had never been observed at Hogwarts.
The rest was spent with Meryl who, despite some time, still did not fully accept Severus.
"Then why did you defend it?" both girls asked at the same time.
"One thing is that it belongs to Slytherin and another want to see him suffer, there is a big difference."
There was a silence until the redhead called Calynn excited.
"It is today! Right?"
"A few minutes after the break is over, we'll see each other at the lake where always," the flushed girl replied.
"How beautiful," Lily said in wonder.
They kept joking about Calynn and Frank's appointment until they gave one and the little girl had to say goodbye to meet her beloved Frank at the edge of the lake, that lake full of memories, experiences and memories. She started the way while fixing her hair because the air was blowing heavily.
She crossed the Hogwarts grounds while watching the high castle from a distance and smiled as she knew that what she was looking at, was not only the school, but also her home.
She went down a small hill until she reached the edge of the lake where she could hear the movement of water because of the wind, she sat on the ground that was quite cold, but she didn't care.
A few moments later the Death Eater heard a sound coming from one of its ends, turned around and saw him there, walking with picnic baskets in both hands, bringing her Gryffindor robe just like her and walking with a smile from ear to ear in the face.
"Did it take me a long time?" Asked the embarrassed boy.
"Not a little," little Black replied as she smiled. The boy left the baskets by his side while he took out a red and yellow checkered tablecloth from his robe and placed it on the floor and then sat on it and opened one of the baskets.
"Where do you get all this food?" Asked the girl.
"This?" Frank asked, pointing to one of the baskets while the girl nodded. "Every weekend my parents send me some candy and let's say I've been saving them for this day," the boy explained without giving it any importance.
The boy took out a purple box that the little Death Eater recognized instantly, were Bertie Bott beans; Frank took one but did not eat it.
"Cherry," he said as he approached it to her friend's lips. The girl hesitated for a moment and then took the jelly bean with her lips and subsequently savored that marvelous taste of that fruit.
"Thank you," she said. For a moment only the movement of the water was the only audible thing, little Black took the opportunity to see around her and that is when she realized that the view of the castle from there was very beautiful despite the gray clouds that covered it thanks to the storm that was possibly approaching.
"Calynn," he called her, "I'd like to know more about you if it doesn't bother you," the boy commented. The girl agreed, although deep inside she knew that there might be questions where she wouldn't have to answer with the whole truth.
"And, what do you want to know?" She asked before savoring another jelly bean.
"More about your childhood, you've never told me about that," Frank proposed.
The little girl didn't answer right away because she was trying to remember what she could tell him, but she only had vague memories of when she played with Lily and Severus in the garden or the scolding she sometimes received; but strangely she couldn't remember her school years or anything before the age of ten, she had simply never realized that.
"I used to play in a garden on my street with Lily Evans and Severus Snape," she said with a shrug.
"Seriously? Since when do you know them?" Asked Frank, surprised.
"Maybe since I was eight, I don't know," she said, unable to remember.
"Despite all these years, don't you think Severus can be a little strange?" the boy asked looking for the words.
Little Black remembered what Severus had said just a few days ago, he was tired of listening to all those little insults and searched for the words before answering.
"No, I don't think that, he has been a very good friend, why do you think that?" Asked the girl trying to hide her tone of discomfort in her voice.
"His behavior, he belongs to the snakes..." the boy whispered as if Severus could hear them.
"You told me on the train that you had no preference for houses," said the girl.
"I don't have it, but did you know that most of the dark wizards are from the Slytherin house?" Frank reported and Calynn was able to identify the hint that those words meant.
" I don't know what that data has to do with Severus," Calynn said curtly while shaking her head.
The lake was silent for a while and apparently Frank could tell because he immediately added.
"Do you want to play something?" The boy said, the little Death Eater nodded. "Come with me," he said as he helped her to her feet.
They walked a few steps away from the lake. For a moment the boys only exchanged friendly looks until the boy took his companion's shoulder and exclaimed:
"Let's play tag, you start!" "He ran leaving his friend behind before she could react.
They played for a while and they were laughing, at no time where they bothered and they just continued enjoying that fun that the girl had nowhere else but her home, at Hogwarts. They played until the sky began to change to those dark colors and it was when Frank pulled a pair of sandwiches from another basket, gave one to his friend and waited for her reaction.
"Did you like it?" Frank asked as he watched the girl who calmly tasted the food her friend had brought her.
"If I liked it? It fascinated me, what does it contain?" Exclaimed little Black enthusiastically.
"It's a sweet sandwich, my grandmother learned it from her grandmother and she has taught it to my mother who sends it to me sometimes," said the boy. "This time she has put some marmalade with Bertie Bott beans, chocolate frogs and some others jelly beans.
"I never tried it," Calynn confessed before taking another bite.
For a moment they both watched the lake they admired so much until the boy spoke.
"What would you like to be when you grow up? I'd love to be an auror," Frank began with a slight tone of pride in his voice.
The little girl had not thought about it, she was so busy fixing her present that she forgot to think about her future; simply since she knew she was a witch, it had never crossed her mind what she would like to be in the magical world.
"I've never thought about it, but out of curiosity, what is an auror?" Asked little Black.
"They are the best magicians who go in search of good, fighting evil while facing arduous fights with people on the dark side," the boy explained.
Calynn just remained silent thinking about every word Frank had just said, a slight feeling of discomfort was created in her until she remembered the little present, she had brought to the child.
"I brought you this," the little Death Eater mentioned as she pulled a chocolate frog out of her robe and handed it to the boy. He began to open it at that moment and while he saw the chrome that it contained, the frog jumped and began to run around the place while both tried to catch it.
"I got it!" Exclaimed the girl while capturing the frog and almost hit Frank's face, he turned to see her, they were so close, just watching each other. Slowly Frank moved closer to little Black while she closed her eyes, the boy took the initiative and sweetly kissed the lips of his dear friend while Calynn held Frank's face with his eyes closed and he took her arms. They both got closer as Little Black's tunic slipped down her arms, Frank who had her eyes open noticed this and could see it, the boy looked at that skull and snake that marked the forearm of the Death Eater. Noticing that, Frank separated his lips from those of his friend very sharply while wiping his mouth with his hand.
"You, cursed Death Eater!" Frank shouted furiously.
The girl was baffled until she noticed that the mark was now in sight.
"Frank, I... I can explain it," the girl stammered hoarsely as she stood up.
"There's nothing to explain, that mark says it all, you're such a being..." He paused for the words, "despicable," Frank finished as he took the baskets and folded the tablecloth he had brought.
"You don't understand, I'm not there because I wanted to," the girl tried to explain as she began to follow Frank who was just shaking his head. "You have to believe me," the girl pleaded with tears in her eyes.
"Get away, will you?" Said an enraged Frank, totally different from the one she had known. "I just kissed a Death Eater," he commented with disgust as he paused slightly, "just remembering it makes me sick." And the boy went on his way without looking back.
"Frank! Please." The girl kept insisting as she took it from his robe.
"Desmaius!" Exclaimed the boy turning to his old friend, but she avoided the spell.
"You tried to attack me..." whispered little Black as she stopped walking and saw Frank follow her path without turning back.
Calynn realized that they had walked at a rapid pace as they had reached the limits of the Forbidden Forest and the castle was just in front of her.
It was night, the wind was blowing strongly and the little girl walked with tears in her eyes while she wished it didn't rain, she was about to go to the castle when she saw a platinum blue bird just a few steps away from her. Gaining curiosity, she went there while she was still sobbing and it was when she remembered that this bird had already seen her on another occasion and what he had to do was follow her. The little girl undertook the trip to the Forbidden Forest behind that bird that gave her light in the darkness of the forest. She wiped her tears as she walked, in those moments she felt disappointed, so much so that she thought that could not happen. Both arrived at a tree and the bird was placed on the ground next to it, the girl imitated it while remembering when she had also been there and began with the bird to remove some branches and herbs from above the place. Suddenly spiders began to emerge, all in the direction of the little girl who jumped to get rid of them and that was when she saw that wooden trapdoor, with enough effort she opened it completely and then continued to dry her cheek tears. The girl hesitated for a moment to enter that place where spiders did not stop, thought about it a few minutes and then said goodbye to that slightly transparent bluish bird with a caress in its beak, knelt down and dropped down through the trapdoor.
She fell for a moment, but this was not as long as in her dream, although the impact of her legs with the hard ground still hurt her a lot. She stayed on the ground in pain for a moment because she believed that perhaps some bone had been broken, while the bird that had stayed up was now next to her. The girl managed to stand up while contemplating the place. Its characteristic color was green, in each corner you could see different statues with larger or smaller snakes, although the room was not very large. There was enough to see, but what attracted the most attention was that book that was in the middle of the room, just on a lectern decorated with different silver and greenish finishes that formed snakes or the logo of the house of Slytherin. She continued to see the different designs of the walls when the mark of her left arm began to ache and burn with horrors out of nowhere, she fell back on the floor while holding her forearm, she just didn't understand why that pain. She heard a small sound behind her, but thought that it had only been the bird that was next to her and that made it difficult for her to see, because she could only see through it and in that, just where she had turned she could see some eyes yellowish before losing consciousness.
