Chapter thirty-five: Insecurity
A blond and a coppery mane peeked out of the snow mountains that formed on the Hogwarts grounds. Both spoke low, taking care that nobody listened to them.
"...so, I sent her the letter," the redhead whispered.
"Her parents? What atrocity!" Meryl replied.
"But we can't do anything," Lily began embarrassed.
Meryl just shrugged, got up from the snow and headed to the entrance of the castle to be followed by Lilianne.
It only took a few days to go back to school, to be able to leave that mansion excited little Black so much that it was hard to hide it. She went down the white steps to go in search of Severus, opened the door of the mansion, but was stopped by a small girl with brown eyes.
"Trying to escape?" Snapped Bellatrix.
"I'm just looking for Severus. Now, if you turned away, you would make my day," Calynn said without fear in her voice.
"Your filthy friend weasel has forgotten you and you are looking for someone to talk to?" She paused slightly. "As if you really knew Severus..." she mentioned mysteriously.
"I know Severus even before you knew how to pronounce your first spell," Calynn challenge proudly.
"At least he told me about his taste on the dark side," Bellatrix replied.
"There was no need to tell you, unfortunately he had to endure your daily presence for a few months, didn't he?"
Bellatrix pulled her wand furiously and squeezed it tightly to her companion's neck, Calynn could feel the strange and peculiar shape of her sister's wand, it was crooked just like her mind that so much imagined cruelty; but she returned to reality when she felt that she was suffocated by her own sister. She tried to escape her grip, but the fingertips of Bellatrix felt them more and more united in her soft neck. "How do you know that?" She asked as she whipped her against the nearest wall without releasing her for a moment and with an angry gesture. As expected, little Black failed to answer anything because she kept getting less air. "I will kill you, after all, you have only been a hindrance to the family," Bellatrix commented, relieving the strength with her hands to get a small knife out of her robe. "It's so boring when it's so fast." She sighed wistfully with a devilish smile as she drew the edge to her throat, but before she could harm her, Calynn saw a spell pass in front of her so that, she would fall to the ground and breathe again. She tried to sit up and open her eyes while coughing because of shortness of breath. From between her eyelids she could see rays of different colors coming from both directions.
"Enter the mansion now!" Ordered a familiar voice that she recognized until she saw her honey-colored eyes to react and stand up, but she ducked instantly to avoid the spells that were conjugated at that precise moment. She took the lock of the house and entered without thinking twice. There she began to try to recover the air and regulate her pulse, she leaned on the wall that was next to the door, but a window shattered next to her. What she could not understand was that no one had realized what was happening.
Through the newly broken window she managed to sneak the sound coming from outside.
"Not because you're older than me, you'll be better at this," Bella challenged.
"You should not only be guided by the knowledge of a person, but also by their values and abilities." After this comment everything suddenly fell silent, little Black leaned slightly out the window and saw an unconscious Bellatrix on the floor while Andromeda picked up her sister's wand and the knife that had caused so many problems. The brunette turned to the mansion leaving her sister on the floor. She entered the house and went straight to Calynn, when she saw that Andromeda had a great cut on her face, she lamented a lot while hugging her tightly.
"How is it that nobody has heard this scandal?" Asked the little girl confused.
"They haven't heard it? Obviously, yes, but they have gotten used to it, so no one interferes," Andromeda explained, and with a handkerchief she wiped the red liquid from her face that came out less and less frequently.
There was a little silence before Andy spoke.
"And what caused you to fight?" The chestnut snapped. Calynn told her what happened trying not to raise her voice so as not to be heard. "How did you know that Bellatrix was the one who made the initiation of Severus?" The chestnut snapped.
"In fact, I didn't know exactly, but I suspected it because of some comments from Bella," Little Black explained. "But what made her bother so much?"
Apparently, Andromeda doubted how to answer that.
"She gets upset because she thinks Severus told you," the chestnut explained.
"But even if it were, what's wrong?" The little girl was surprised.
"Merlin beard! What I want to tell you is that Bellatrix seems to be in love with Severus."
The girl was silent, trying to analyze what they had just told her.
"Severus? It's a joke?" She formulated incredulously with an undecided grimace.
"It's not sure at all, but with Narcissa spends a lot talking about him," Andy confessed. Little Black couldn't believe it, just imagining Severus and Bellatrix together made her sick. "It's better that we go up, you don't want to be here when she wakes up," Andromeda said, nodding at her sister.
Both girls climbed the steps until the echo of their steps was lost.
Christmas came flying, as every year Santa Claus would not arrive, another year without gifts under the tree, but that no longer surprised little Black. She had just climbed into her room after a long breakfast, she was leaning on the windowsill of the room watching the snowflakes fall, she liked to feel the cold air that covered her face. As a little girl, she began to eat the flakes, although when they were swallowed, they chilled her throat.
"I liked doing that too," Andromeda said wistfully. "Believe it or not, Bella and I were very close, until she hurt me." Her brown eyes darkened as she lost himself in her thoughts and told her sister her memories.
Three little girls, each with a different hair color, but all of the same mother, played in the snow, enjoying the snowflakes. They started a snowball battle while the air diverted them from their path. Andromeda had reached a large fist of snow and, grabbing Bellatrix off guard, threw the snow right in her face. The girl smiled wickedly, turned around and threw a whitish stone at her.
"Who do you think you are?" The chestnut mentioned after avoiding the rock.
"You started," Bellatrix snapped.
"I didn't know you were the queen of England so that no one bothered you, besides I am older than you," Andromeda finished without being able to avoid a tone of pride in that sentence.
Bellatrix was speechless, but Andy could feel her dark and thinking face. She walked slowly to her, with Narcissa beside them without saying a word. Bella gave a mocking smile and whispered in her ear to the chestnut.
"But not the favorite." From the inside of her clothes she pulled out a wand, before Andromeda even noticed the gun, the girl was already being tortured. Narcissa in a sea of tears was frozen in panic and the only thing that occurred to her was to push Bellatrix down to make her fall. The chestnut rose quickly and this time it was she who carried her wand, threatened Bellatrix with it and moved away from the place with Narcissa following in her footsteps.
"That was not the last fight we had, but now I don't know which side Narcissa is on," Andromeda said as they watched the snow fall and felt the cold air on their faces.
"Maybe Narcissa fears Bellatrix," Calynn commented without being entirely convinced. The oldest of the Blacks answered nothing at all, but she dedicated herself to observing the horizon.
"How I would like to have a normal life! After all these years I have realized that as time goes by, the time will come when I can no longer go on," commented Andromeda.
"Did you tell Dumbledore?" Asked little Black.
"I don't want to leave Hogwarts because it's the only place I can do what I want," confessed the chestnut. There was a small silence as they continued to see the whitish landscape.
"What are we doing today?" Asked Calynn, thinking about the Christmas trees that stood between the halls of Hogwarts and how well her best friends would spend that night.
"If you mean Christmas, you can discard that idea, because this day, like New Year, is really unnoticed," said Andromeda. Her sister's face was completely discouraged before giving a sigh. "But if you want to do something different today, I can give you this," the chestnut added, showing her sister three different colors of stamens to weave.
"Andy, they're beautiful, but I don't know how to knit," said the little embarrassed.
"I can teach you, after all, we have nothing better to do," said the chestnut and then disappeared with little Black as they began to talk about the different things that can be woven and laughed with joy.
And so, they spent that night on December to not mention almost all the remaining ones. Little Black had imagined a crueler stay, but for some strange reason Voldemort didn't let Druella approach her, which she ignored but really appreciated. The only thing that did not disappear were the dreams or visions that affected her so much.
She was walking through the forbidden forest, she recognized it because of the little she managed to catch a glimpse of the castle. She walked determined as if she knew the way to her destination. She reached the trunk of a tree that was familiar to her and began to remove the dirt from it and then lift a trapdoor and enter it. She felt that she was falling slowly when a voice brought her to reality.
"Wake up, it's just a dream," a sleepy Andromeda repeated as she hit her with the pillow to silence her sister. Calynn had already become accustomed to what she did nothing about it. When January began, little Black thanked it so much because that meant that there were less days left to return to Hogwarts and, although during school they had to endure Binns and Galatea, there was no place to prefer to be. The correspondence arrived on the first day of January during the morning, luckily, Andy was in those directions and managed to get the letters without any problem. She handed her four letters with different envelopes; the girl would never have expected that. She thanked her sister and climbed the steps to read the letters quietly.
The first was a golden color, she saw the names of James and his friends coming. Apparently, they had made several identical cards since there was no specific name, they only wished for magical and unique parties. She went on to the next envelope, this was a violet color and in quick print she could read Meryl's name, opened it, took out the letter and read:
Calynn!
This is not the typical Christmas letter, sometimes the comments come to me like "Be good to get Santa Claus gifts" or "Do not eat too much, because you are not the turkey", I recommend you get carried away. If you want to spend Christmas Eve asleep in your room, you have every right, maybe that's the best thing you can do. Calynn didn't know exactly what he meant by this comment. And, if you also want to be the most obese turkey in England you can also decide it. I hope you liked this letter and that you got a smile, at least one.
Hogwarts turkey says goodbye.
Meryl
She closed the envelope with a smile on her face. In spite of everything, Meryl was always the one who reminded her of the good things in life, that laughter exists and does not hurt. She set out to answer that day because she knew that would make her day even more enjoyable. She continued to review the different envelopes she had left and took a bluish one with hand-drawn hearts.
She took out the letter knowing perfectly who it came from and read:
Calynn
How I would like to spend these dates with you, at least being able to give you a gift as a sign of my appreciation for you, would be an incredibly great gift.
I don't know about you, but I miss Hogwarts more than ever, it's not that I don't like my home, but nothing is the same without your company. I count the days to return, I hope you do too. I wait your answer.
Frank
PS: I hope you like the few jelly beans that I managed to add inside the envelope. They all taste good, don't worry.
Little Black realized that her friends were what she had left as a sign that laughter or love still exist vividly in the world. She took a jelly bean and was glad to taste a sweet cherry flavor. She grabbed the last envelope with some regret, since the last letter she had sent to Lily, she had been slightly disgusted when she learned of the cruelty her friend had committed. She read the beginning of the letter while feeling as if she ran out of air, as if the world fell on it.
Calynn would be glad to have good news, but it's not like that. When you return to school nothing will be as it was before, you will have to form a great excuse to cover that you have the mark. It is the Daily Prophet, they know it.
