Chapter thirty-eight: The secret of Severus

The boy stared at his friend for a moment while he thought.

"I already told you, I can't," said the boy, shaking his head.

"I've been practicing, reading my mind won't be so easy anymore, don't you trust me?" The girl challenged him.

"Yes, I trust you, but it's a secret I've kept for years, I haven't even told Lilianne," he said in anguish.

"You know my biggest secret and despite that you are on the dark side while your own friend fights against it, I think I would at least like to know the reason," she exclaimed slightly angry. The boy was silent for a moment and with a gesture of concern and reproach. "Severus, please, I don't want to argue about this again," the girl added.

"Just wait a moment," the boy replied as he rose from the ground, headed to the beginning of the hall, poked his head in search of someone who might be passing and then cast a few spells to silence the place where they would be. He returned after a few minutes while the torch illuminated his face again.

He breathed and exhaled slowly as he closed his eyes to relax.

"Where do you want to start?" Asked Severus seriously.

"Why, Severus? Why this pleasure for the dark side?" Asked Calynn directly.

Severus rolled up his left sleeve and saw for a moment what had been caused.

"Do you think I like it?" Severus exploded hoarsely. "Do you think I would do this if I liked it?" Little Black just shook her head as she contemplated the reddish scratches that covered the shape of the mark, the one that would not be removed in any way, would be there forever. Severus fell silent for a moment while deciding how to begin. "I joined the Death Eaters because of my mother's influence in part, but mainly because of the family problems I suffered at home." He paused as he thought about how to continue. "My father is Muggle and generally he hit my mother and I sometimes tried to defend her, so she used the same violence against me. But things got worse, because it was increasingly recurring and I could not stand my home. I wanted to find a way out, an escape and a way of revenge against my father and I had to choose that option so wrong, letting myself be driven by anger and rage." He paused for a moment to continue. "I've made very bad decisions in my life, Calynn, you have to know that, but now I have to take responsibility for the bad consequences they have caused me." He looked longingly at his left forearm and before the little girl could say anything he continued. "I have tried everything to remove this mark, this is not the person I really am, the actions and plans of the Dark Lord are totally inhuman; until it seemed that I had no conscience, I don't want to get used to this." He paused for a moment and continued. "You are not the only one who suffers, try to see around you and do not judge without knowing people's past," he exhaled slightly and continued. "I would have liked to have had a good childhood, but as soon as I entered the Death Eaters, I knew that the possibility of recovering it would be impossible. That is why we are different, you and I, we have both experienced difficult situations. Many people call me weird because of my way of being," he reflected, "but that has diminished my importance in my life, since I have become accustomed."

Little Black was just analyzing everything she had just heard.

"I'm sorry," she muttered slightly, but the boy kept explaining.

"Don't blame me for not helping you, because I tried to my best, but it was impossible. You were present in my thoughts for a long time, but I could only regret my uselessness in your situation, being the closest person who could have helped you," he sobbed. "The information did not reach my ears and my level of Legilimency did not exceed those of Voldemort or Druella themselves to be able to guess their plans, I felt so useless in those moments that I knew that I would have to accept your anger with me and shut up completely. Do you understand me now?" The boy finished with tears in his eyes.

Calynn was still reflecting, she couldn't believe everything her friend had just said, she simply would never have imagined it. She ordered her thoughts so she could address Severus more easily while still amazed and sad at the same time.

"I'm sorry, I was selfish," she whined, "I thought of myself and only myself, I can't believe how close you were and I didn't realize who you really were. I still can't believe that I thought you could be there for pleasure. I'm so sorry."

"You don't have to regret it, the important thing is that we have both done our best to protect each other," Severus said without knowing what else to add.

"And you can't stop being part of the Death Eaters?" Asked the hopeful girl.

The boy laughed before answering.

"They would kill me. My mother is on their side so I could not return to my home, but Voldemort would kill me as I know the identity of many of his followers," said the boy.

"Wouldn't it be enough with an enchantment to erase your memory?" Asked the small, insistent.

"I also thought the same thing until I observed the people that Voldemort brought to get information and that although they revealed everything, he ended up killing them because..."

"...he has fun ending the lives of others," little Black completed, catching everything. "No matter how much you say..."

"...or how faithful you are..." the boy added.

"...he will end up killing you," the girl finished quite disappointed and sad at the same time, belonging to that group was like being in a prison.

Both children stared for a moment until a cat's meows accompanied by a man's voice distracted them.

"Try not to see Filch, see you tomorrow," Severus said goodbye as he rose to remove the silencer spells. Little Black passed by without saying goodbye and cautiously continued on her way up the stairs to reach her bedroom.

Once again, Calynn lay on her bed in the uniform of the day because she was quite tired, but she was not going to sleep, with so many revelations in her head it would be impossible. How did she never consider it? She lived with Severus so long and never saw that possibility close. Her eyes began to fill with tears as she realized that it hurt in her heart that someone else was living what she was, and felt even worse knowing that until now she had done nothing to support him.

A few floors below, just in the dungeons, rested a boy with greasy hair, who only watched the greenish canopy while reflecting on what had just happened. For the first time he had told his biggest secret, and it wasn't that he didn't trust her friend, but now that someone else knew it, he was afraid of what might happen, but at the same time, being able to tell it to a person who understood it had comforted Severus, who let out a sigh. He settled in bed trying to fall asleep, but in his head, there was only the idea of the confessions he had made to Calynn today.

"The Revolution of the Elves was a very important fact for the magical world since some of its consequences were..." Lily reviewed the notes on the History of Magic during breakfast because in a few minutes they would have their first exam of the subject.

"The creation of advice, rights and laws," Calynn added that the text had already been learned after the redhead was repeating it all morning.

"Can you leave that now, Lilianne?" Meryl begged who was finishing her plate meal.

"No, today is our exam and I don't want to forget a single detail," Lily insisted.

The blonde rolled her eyes and continued to cut some fruit quickly. When they went to rest after their exam they began to comment on the questions and what they had answered.

"One less exam," Calynn sighed.

"I thought Binns would tell us, but that the test came in the book? I did not expect that, it was incredibly easy because I had already done it many times," Lily said incredulously.

"I almost forgot the back side," Calynn said, blushing in shame.

"Back?" Asked the blonde. "Great," she finished sarcastically.

They were on their way to the dining room when they heard a commotion at the end of the main hall.

"Snivellus! Snivellus!" The characteristic teasing of James Potter could be heard in the distance with the voices of Sirius, Lupin and Peter as choirs. "Snivellus! Snivellus!"

Among the crowd of people, they managed to catch a glimpse of Potter threatening Severus with his wand while the other marauders pulled him from his hair as they lifted him and the boy tried to let go.

"Poor Snivellus! How greasy his hair is! Poor Snivellus! How greasy his hair is!" The other students had joined the choir. The girl could not stand it anymore and left behind her friends who were also horrified and ran to the scene.

"Expelliarmus!" The girl shouted as the spell took Potter off guard so that later his wand flew through the air until it fell at the feet of the Death Eater. The hall fell silent without knowing what would happen next. The boy in glasses turned around with a proud smile as he laughed, but when he saw his attacker, he became serious.

"Calynn? I thought you had better preferences," the Gryffindor student teased with a smile. The girl just kept quiet. "Besides, you are a pureblood, and he, even though he belongs to the snakes, is nothing more than a simple half-blood," James laughed as the others joined him. "What could be worse?"

"Having a werewolf friend, I suppose," said Meryl, who approached the scene accompanied by Lily.

Whispers began to be heard in the hallway while the boy with the scars on his face shook his head.

"How do you know, Johnson?" Potter questioned angrily as he took his wand that was only inches away from little Black.

"Lily has told me about werewolves and lycans, so after seeing his behavior, I realized that it was true, that your dear Lupin was a werewolf. Let's start with the wounds on the face..." revealed the extremely annoying blonde.

The crowd watched the students as Lupin decided to get out of there as soon as possible quite annoying and holding back tears.

"You should learn to close your mouth," said James Potter, addressing the blonde. "Petrificus Totalus!"

"Protego!" The girl reacted quickly to the spell and without any problem. "And you not to be so obvious," Meryl finished before the boy shook his head and went to reach his group that was a few steps ahead. Subsequently, the entire crowd just watched the group of girls. "Don't you have something better to do?" Exclaimed the blonde getting the majority to look away. When most had left, they went directly to Severus who was sitting on the floor, redder than a tomato.

"Thank you, really, thank you very much." He addressed each of the girls without knowing what else to say.

"But Meryl, I haven't told you about the werewolves yet," the confused redhead added.

"I know, but I read something about them in a book and noticed the relationship Lupin had with them," Meryl explained without giving any importance.

"Come on, it's time for potions," little Black reminded them who was next to them. "Then you will have to tell us all about Lupin."

On the way to potions, Severus congratulated his friend Calynn for having occupied that spell their had practiced so much.

Then, in Dumbledore's classes everything was going well because the director could observe a great advance since the little girl practiced her lessons standing in the middle of the room.

"Legilimens!" The director exclaimed, but was expelled from the student's mind when trying to open the first memory. For a moment Calynn and Dumbledore looked at each other until the director put his wand on the desk and clapped as loud as possible while cheering for the girl while she was flattered. Although she has already passed this area, there are still many things to learn about different aspects," the director added before giving his last applause and told her to leave.

It was less for the appointment he would have with Frank and he already counted the hours to be by his side.
