Chapter seventeen: Discussions
The children had had a great time in the alley since they did not stop talking all the way back home about each of the details they had lived in that magical place.
"Then I broke a window!" Calynn said while laughing out loud, remembering that moment when she tried one of the wands the man had given her before finding the indicated wand.
Lily's parents smiled, nodded and answered some questions; it was evident that they were also amazed.
"Do you want to eat at our house?" Said Mrs. Evans, addressing Severus politely.
"You are very kind, but ..." Severus muttered.
"Please," the red-haired mother insisted without letting it end.
"It's all right," Severus said, smiling at his friend's mother while the adult returned the same smile.
They were about to get home when it started to rain lightly and the children watched as the drops whipped on the windows of the car. Through these they could observe Muggle people walking along the sidewalk holding umbrellas of different colors avoiding getting wet while walking quickly, although there were also a few without umbrellas that were limited to avoid raindrops while running down the street.
After a while, the children were able to observe Spinner's End and their houses. Upon arriving in front of Lily's house, the children got out of the car and entered the house together with Mr. Evans.
"You can sit down," Lily's mother told them, pointing to the dining room.
Lily and Calynn sat in their usual places, side by side, and Severus sat in a chair in front of Lily, giving her a smile.
The children were talking for a moment while there was a scandal inside the kitchen, from time to time Lily got up to help her mother with food. Mrs. Evans climbed the stairs and after a moment angry shouts were heard on the upper floor, so the children were silent immediately. After a moment the screams stopped and the woman came down the stairs again and a dark brown-haired girl followed her. When Petunia arrived at the dining room, she gave Lily and Calynn a murderous look and sat reluctantly next to Severus, leaving the headers for the parents. She turned to see the boy and gave him a look of disgust before rolling her eyes. They didn't speak until Mr. Evans returned from the kitchen, served them a bowl of soup and sat in their places to eat.
"Does the first of September begin school?" Asked Mrs. Evans enthusiastically in her voice.
"Yes, in less than two months," Lily replied to the redhead as she smiled and the other wizards at the table imitated her.
They continued eating and after a while the children began to talk about their adventure in the alley.
"These are our new wands," the children commented as they took their new wands out of their pockets, each with something unique. Colors, shapes and even different lengths could be observed in these three wands, representing the personality of each one.
Petunia walked away as far as she could from Severus with an expression of disgust and fear, although she tried to hide the latter.
"We are very proud of you," Mrs. Evans replied with a smile on her lips and her husband imitating her.
"Proud? How can you be proud of those..." She paused to search for the words she wanted to describe the children, "monsters?" Petunia finished with a gesture of disgust and disapproval.
"Petunia!" Replied her mother, reprimanding the girl.
"That's what they are, disgusting and horrendous beings," Petunia said with a disgusted face. "What a shame to have a sister with those powers so strange and full of curses!" Petunia added as Lily got angry and offended at the same time.
"You didn't think the same thing a few days ago when you begged Dumbledore to accept you at Hogwarts," Severus snapped defiantly, having taken a piece of food.
Everyone turned to see Petunia who was blushing a little and was open-mouthed, not knowing what to answer the boy.
The table was silent for a moment, everyone looked at their food, but most had had their appetites taken away because of the children's arguments.
"Good thing they didn't accept you," said Lily this time, addressing her sister and shrugging. "Actually, what a shame to have you at school with me," she finished as she gave her a challenging look.
"They didn't accept me because I'm not a freak like you or your friends," Petunia shouted at her sister, exasperated.
"Shut up, shut your mouth at once!" Shouted Lily rising from the table. But it wasn't Lily everyone saw, the glass that Petunia had in her hands had shattered and the water was scattered all over the table as well as a few pieces of glass, "You begged the principal to let you be in a school with magic when you're an attempt at muggle sister, who's the weirdo now ?!"
Petunia looked hatefully at her sister who, to her surprise, held her gaze, her quick breathing betraying how annoying she was and not knowing what to answer.
"I hate you!" The girl shouted after that great silence, apparently, she had not found another way to make her sister feel bad.
"Me too, disgusting muggle!" Cried Lily. Both girls were up from the table looking at each other with hate. "I'm glad to be away from you until winter break!"
"That's enough girls," the mother of both ordered this time as she stood up with a gesture of severity.
"No, it is not. Since your friend came to live here," Petunia began, "everything has been worse for me," she finished in a broken voice, turning to see little Black.
"You never had the courage to tell me in the face!" Calynn shouted this time as she got up from the table, she had really bothered those words. What did her stay have to do with her attitude with her sister?
"What would I have won? That child must have offered you your house, not my sister!" Petunia shouted as she pointed at Severus quite annoying.
"I would have done it if they had left me!" Severus shouted as he rose from the table, quite indignantly. "Don't come to tell me what to do, disgusting childish and immature muggle girl," the boy added with the same level of anger.
"It's not my fault that she has parents who torture her, she's a coward for coming to take refuge here!" Said Petunia with a mocking smile on her face as she held her gaze against little Black.
"Close your filthy muggle mouth!" the little girl shouted without being able to contain the tears in her eyes, touching her parents' subject was her greatest weakness, she still did not overcome that reality and much less liked to hear it from others.
Petunia kept laughing at Calynn while the light in the room came and went.
"It's more cowardly to offend others because they have more than you," Severus said angrily. "Accept that you are a being without magic, accept that your sister is more special than you and leave us alone," Severus ordered angrily. "Those are your problems, not ours."
Petunia looked at the three children with a hateful face and holding back some tears.
"I hope to never see you again in my life!" She shouted and then left the room and ran up the stairs without looking back.
The boys sat back in their place and nobody commented on anything while they finished eating the exquisite food that Mrs. Evans prepared.
When they finished, they took their dishes to the kitchen and headed to the front door to go for their things they had bought in the alley and to say goodbye to Severus.
"See you tomorrow early in the usual place," Calynn said.
Severus nodded without mentioning more, apparently, he was slightly embarrassed by what had just happened in the dining room.
"Goodbye, Severus," Lily said goodbye as she hugged the boy, trying not to feel bad about having spoken to her sister like that, she knew Petunia had it well deserved.
The boy went home after his friends handed him his things.
After taking things out of the car, the girls entered the house and decided to leave them down so as not to have to climb them.
Lily and Calynn decided to write their Hogwarts confirmation letter and tied it to the leg of their owls as they opened the dining room window and watched them go away until they were lost in the dark.
They climbed the wooden stairs and headed to their room, changed clothes and put on pajamas. They sat on their small beds that were together and silence reigned in the room.
"I'm sorry," the little girl spoke after a moment.
"Why do you apologize?" Replied the confused redhead.
"Because of my behavior in the dining room," the girl replied. "I think I went overboard, but I couldn't help it, I'm so sorry." She apologized again.
"Don't worry about that, Tunn..." She paused, "Petunia earned it." Lily's gesture had changed slightly, remembering everything her sister had said a few hours ago offended her and caused her sadness.
Lily was going to get up from her bed to turn off the light and be able to sleep when her mother entered the room.
"Hello, little ones," the woman greeted kindly.
"Hello," both replied with a tone of fear in their voice. They feared they were going to chat with them about what happened.
"Don't be scared, I don't come to punish you," the woman said as she smiled. "I want to tell you that there is no problem with your stay," the woman said as she addressed little Black. "And also, that you are no monsters or weirdos. I'm glad to have a witch daughter," the redhead said to Lily, hugging her with love.
The girls smiled at her and lay down on her bed. Mrs. Evans went to Calynn's bed, covered her to her shoulders and kissed her cheek. Then she went to her daughter's bed, covered her face, playing, while laughing enthusiastically. After a while of play, the woman covered her to the shoulders and kissed her forehead.
"I love you, daughter," the woman said as she said goodbye to her.
"Me too," the girl replied as she kissed her mother on the cheek, melting into a hug. The woman turned off the light and after thinking about everything that had happened that day the girls fell asleep with a smile on their faces.
