Chapter fifty-two: Oh, children
---Important note: First of all, I do not like to place notes of this type before starting the chapter, but it is the only alternative. To make a part of this chapter I relied on a song, so the narration is consistent with the stanzas of it and goes almost with the time of it, so I will leave the video of the song in multimedia so you can Listen to it at the same time you read. It will be notified when the story begins based on that song. Thank you.---
"Wake up, remember to go with Dumbledore after breakfast," the redhead told little Black as she moved her slightly. The girl just yawned.
After about three minutes, Calynn got up quite lazily as she remembered the night before, so many revelations filled her mind with thoughts and anguish. While taking a quick shower, she remembered that today was her last full day at school, since tomorrow she would leave on that train back to that place that only reminded her of the origin of the mark of her forearm, that place where the real initiation had begun, that mansion where she made her first Unforgivable Curse, that place she should call home, even if it was not.
She dressed quickly without removing those thoughts from her mind and went downstairs to reach her friends. She walked through the corridors with her head downcast so that in this way she could avoid the eyes of the other students, both Gryffindor and Slytherin, who watched her with disgust, even when they were aware of her expulsion. She reached them in the Great Hall, entering at a rapid pace, as she sat next to Lily and began serving himself wallflower, one of the things she would miss most about school. Meryl began to talk about some children's books, possibly to distract her classmates, but Calynn didn't listen to her at all. She had the cup of her drink in her hands as she watched her with some longing, a slight feeling of nostalgia wanted to form, but, for some reason, little Black did everything possible to prevent it from forming, she was tired of sadness, her anger and courage seized her from head to toe.
However, she could not help but blame herself for suppressing her feelings, she was not sure what she was doing, she did not know if involving her friends was correct or if revealing herself in that way before the Dark Lord was the safest, she did not know if the future she was creating would be the best for everyone, she didn't want to be proud or selfish, but was it right or wrong?
"Calynn, are you alright?" Asked Meryl, who looked at her anguished this time, for the little girl had been holding the cup in her hands for a long time without exclaiming a single word.
"Yes, excellent."
They finished breakfast while little Black was just climbing the steps while trying to scare the thoughts from her head, the duel they would have right now with the teachers would be the closest representation of what they would live in a few hours and, therefore, would have do their best.
They opened the principal's office while they watched both professors and Severus, who apparently had advanced by just a little.
"Glad to see you," Dumbledore commented as he rose from his seat. Meanwhile, Meryl was beginning to uncover a potion, the one that allowed her to return to her true complexion, until Dumbledore called her. "Miss Callen, it would seem a bit more prudent for me to keep the effects of the Polyjuice potion for the duel if it is not too much trouble," the director commented as the blonde returned to leave the potion bottle just where she had found it. "I suppose you will understand that it is to observe your agility in duels in the form of the true Meryl Johnson." He finished while Meryl took out a different bottle from the previous one of her robes and took it whole while shivering slightly.
"Ready, Dumbledore," Meryl said.
Professor McGonagall rose equally from her seat, both brought the wand held tightly, but, equally, the two professors wore a rather obvious sidelong gesture.
"After a long discussion, Professor McGonagall and I have chosen to practice this duel with you individually at first to make it more difficult than it really will be, because once inside Malfoy Mansion you must work as a team in its entirety." He ordered as he looked at the boys and nodded their approval. "We will choose one of you without prior notice so that you are not prepared, so you can practice your reflexes and try to improve them if necessary," the director continued with an disagreement gesture, it was obvious that the idea was something that he disliked completely, but he understood It was a strategy to protect them. "As we mentioned earlier, we will just disarm you, we don't want to harm you, okay?" Dumbledore questioned as he received the approval of each of the boys before he only let out a sigh of sadness and watched as each one began to draw his wand with some fear.
Little Black concentrated on her as she breathed to calm down, she had to avoid in any way that the nerves seized her wand.
She opened his eyes instinctively when she heard the first spell from Dumbledore, who had taken advantage of the girl's distraction, but without achieving it at all, as she managed to protect herself properly and thus fade the spell easily. She got alert and this time she attacked:
"Stupefy!" She exclaimed to the director while the old man protected himself with the same speed and this time Professor McGonagall was the one who cast a spell on the little girl, who managed to avoid it by just bending down a little and then trying to disarm the teacher, uselessly. A moment like this followed, Meryl, Lily and Severus just watched curiously, trying to hide their nervousness.
After a moment, little Black managed to disarm the teacher while she avoided Calynn's spells until Dumbledore managed to disarm her and leave her totally defenseless before both.
"Pretty good," the director said as they both kept the wand and helped little Black get up, had fallen to the ground at the time Dumbledore disarmed her to try to take her wand, which he handed over while he added some words, "but you can improve the attention."
Both teachers continued that duel with the other boys and sometimes more with Calynn while they improved in their defense strategies, as Meryl had mentioned the previous day, this type of duels really felt like the real ones that would happen the next day.
Of all, the most easily defended was Meryl, who despite complaining about her short stature, was able to keep up with the duel and even disarm both teachers without spilling a single drop of sweat, being an Auror, Dumbledore did not expect less. Severus was also too good, since he used quite innovative spells and also performed fast and random movements, they were the only two who managed to perform a couple of spells without uttering a word, the advanced preparation of both was remarkable. The most practiced of all was Lily, who still did not perfectly dominate the continuity of the duel, it was very difficult not to be left behind with the spells, especially, to protect themselves from each other.
The professors' concern in this regard was evident, she had the advantage that her classmates had a better preparation, although they understood that this should take extreme caution, but it was too late to change the plans.
Subsequently the group training began, although all were slightly worried, they were already much more focused than when they started the individual duel.
Although at first, the boys were defeated in their entirety with great ease, they began to devise strategies and take advantage of the qualities and defects of each, only then could they realize the importance of each. The agile movements of each one of them were very helpful, since they could avoid spells quickly without needing to protect themselves with a shield created by their wands. Both professors were really impressed with what they could do if they behaved in the same way within the Malfoy Manor, although they could not help worrying about any mistake they made at any time, each action would affect each other's destiny.
They practiced a little more until lunchtime arrived and all the boys were exhausted, so that both teachers and students decided to take a light rest.
"I want to congratulate you," the director began, "you have done a great job and their effort is undoubted," he said. "However, within the Malfoy Manor you cannot be trusted, you must know that they will not stop just because you are children," he said, and then added a few more words. "They will kill you if you give them the chance, don't give them the chance," he finished in a broken voice, worried about the fate of that group of boys who were just trying to do good in exchange for risking their lives.
"Professor..." Calynn murmured as she ordered her ideas about what she was going to mention. "What do you do when you are afraid?" She finally questioned as she looked directly into his eyes, his eyes tired.
"I usually think of the people I most esteem, Miss Black," he began. "I like to imagine that they are there with me, it gives me some confidence, but not too much to deconcentrate me," he said without looking at any of the boys, just watching the wand between his fingers. "You will have the people you value most with you, accompanying you, you should feel more secure, you just have to believe it," Dumbledore explained, with a slight smile. "I know that mentioning it is easy, Miss Black, as easy as when listening to the ways of resistance to the Unforgivable Curses or the effects of the spells, and has even managed to achieve that which seemed impossible and was heard so simple," he finished while Calynn nodded and analyzed his words that were totally true. She remembered those days in Diagon Alley, almost a year ago, where the proximity to the wands caused her an ineffable terror and that they had now become battle mates for little Black. She returned to see those trainings with her mother's Boggart and how that had managed to lessen her fear of it by a small amount, she recalled the disappointing pages of that book that had only shown her how unfaithful and manipulative Druella could become, that it only made her fill herself with courage too great to lose her fear of her own mother. She knew she would not be alone, that her companions were there, protecting and risking his life just to see her smile, to look at little Black with joy, the one that did not appear frequently in the little Death Eater.
She returned to the present, she observed that she was not the only one who had kept a deafening silence in that office, the deep thoughts of students and teachers left almost deaf to anyone who did not share his situation, that room would be a delicacy of thoughts for any magician who with a high Legilimens ability.
After a couple of minutes, the director broke the silence.
"Mr. Snape, remember that at night you must leave for Malfoy Mansion, because tomorrow the train where your companions will leave, will leave in the morning," said the director while seeking the boy's statement, who only nodded without saying one word, it was clear that he already knew the way he would get there. "You three, ladies, review the plan, practice spells and even more importantly, trust you," the old man mentioned, "in that mansion it will be the only thing you have, help each other and do the impossible to know your wholeness." Dumbledore added without seeing the girls, it was obvious that he cares too much about something he could not avoid.
"Thank you, professor," said Lily, who had hidden her fear by not mentioning a single word.
"I suggest you go down to lunch, it is certain that this duel must have exhausted you," said Dumbledore. "And do not worry, we will be here in case you have any questions, remember that we will meet here tomorrow, as soon as the sun rises to fine tune the last details and also go down to breakfast as early as possible, we do not want your companions to bother you Miss Black," the director finished looking for an answer from the girls, who only nodded, fear prevented them from speaking. "Excellent, in that case we'll see each other in the morning." He concluded that afterwards Severus and Lily began to get up as they left the office. Calynn was the last to get up, thoughts flooded her mind. She walked a little towards the door, but the seconds before closing it she managed to hear a dialogue from the professors that only intensified the thoughts in her head.
"They are only children, Dumbledore," Professor McGonagall said with a nervous tone as she gave him a gesture with the same emotion.
"I know, Professor, I know," Dumbledore replied, "but we have to trust them, they are Hogwarts' only hope and the only ones who can change Miss Black's destiny," Dumbledore finished as little Black left the room and starting down the stairs.
"I'm starving, we must fill ourselves with food for what is coming tomorrow," Meryl said with the same tone of joy in her voice, despite everything that would happen in a few hours, it was admirable as the blonde did not lose hope.
They went down together to the Great Hall where they said goodbye to Severus so that they could sit down at their respective tables. The atmosphere between the three girls was very varied. On the one hand, Meryl was totally cheerful, with her characteristic sense of humor and trying a little of each of Hogwarts's dishes; then there was Lily, who just looked at her plate of toast with a lost look, fiddled with the fork while she noted her concern, did not feel well, fear had flooded her body as she had never done, not even as she did during that month she spent locked up with her friend in the house on Spinner's End, which only reminded her of her former parents, those who had forgotten her, forever. The tears running down her cheeks was a sign of how worried she was and of the repressed nerves she wasn't able to show. Finally, there was Calynn, she played with her food and took light bites, but her mind was not in the jokes told by Meryl and she was not in the coordination of chewing her food, her thoughts were in the Malfoy Manor, remembering each equine, every corner, every essential place that could serve as a shelter or could be a danger. She maintained a neutral expression, the success of hiding her emotions had worked so well that it seemed that the ability to feel had vanished from her heart, but she was only tired of feeling the victim.
"Are you all right, Lily?" Meryl's question pulled her from her reverie and turned her gaze to the redhead who was limited to a nod.
"I just need to forget about tomorrow for a moment," said the girl, leaving the fork on the plate.
"What will we do tonight?" Meryl asked to try to brighten the situation.
"I don't know, I hadn't thought about it," said little Black this time with a shrug. "I would like to spend time with Severus, so Dumbledore mentioned it is very likely that we will not see him again," she added so that Lily would only respond with a shake of her head.
"We could reach them later," Meryl said, observing the redhead's gesture, which didn't bother Calynn, she fully understood the girl's attitude.
"I think it's a good idea, but you don't have to sleep too late because tomorrow you have to wake up early for breakfast," Calynn said as she gave Lily a smile, wished with all her heart that she could prevent tomorrow from reaching their lives.
They finished eating what each one wanted and rose from the table together when Severus approached with slight shame, it was notorious that he felt totally bad at the new image that the redhead had of him, he did not know what to do.
"Hello, they said some students will have a meeting here in the Great Hall and there will be music, just in case you like to stay," he ended up directing a look at Calynn, hoping she would stay.
"I think it's a good idea," Calynn said as she received a smile from the boy.
"We will accompany you later, we must arrange some things for tomorrow," the blonde said before saying goodbye and walking away, leaving them totally alone in the Great Hall.
"Who told you about the meeting?" The little girl asked.
"The boys in my house have raved about her, I think none of them will come here," he said with a certain tone of liberation.
They walked for a moment until they reached one of the corners of the room and sat together while watching the other students. The school choir and some other students had helped make the music possible, as well as the instruments of a group of magicians.
The students who passed in front of them judged them and looked strange, but none of them cared, one left that school that night and the other would leave to never return, they would no longer defend any reputation that prevented them from being happy.
"When I was little," Severus began, "my mother used to listen to these songs when my father was not at home, which is why they are my favorite, even when it seems that I am not much of listening to music," the boy commented with certain to weigh.
"I would like to have memories, at least a little to know what I used to do as a child," Calynn said wistfully.
"Not all memories are good, many of them would like to forget them, forever," Severus added sadly. With these words, the little girl could not help thinking of Thana's last look, that image that she would like to erase from her memory because just remembering it dampened her pupils.
They were silent for a moment, both listening to the choir as they sank into their thoughts, time was running as if they were in a race and the only prize, they would get would be to reach that mansion. The moon rose between the windows of the Great Hall, darkness indicated that the night had reached them in the blink of an eye. They applauded when the song they had just performed had come to an end and then they began to hear the beginning of another that at first glance seemed to be very depressing.
---Play the video and come back to read with the multimedia content song----
The guitars began to sound low; the vibrating of the strings gave them an incredible feeling. The rhythm they carried and the sound of the instruments together gave them a cozy atmosphere, sharpened their ears and began to listen to the lyrics of that song that began only moments after that quiet introduction. Most of the students' present were attentive and some enjoyed the moment.
It began with the story of a man who considered suicide as an old friend, an option he could take with open arms and that would allow him to escape from that eternal hell he was destined to live forever. He felt lonely, helpless, could not help but crave that love he would feel around him when it was too late. He needed love, even if he lost everything, even if he forgot how to breathe.
An intermission of guitars and cymbals is audible, all they achieved was a more depressing feeling, little Black's thoughts formed more easily, imagining things she shouldn't, solutions that are not worth it and words that don't deserve to be recognized as valuable. The influence of the song was great, it only generated more thoughts about her and the situation of her friends, which were of great concern of little Black, she did not want to keep on her shoulders the fact of having killed someone or had to remember with tears the memories of some of the best people around her.
The man imagines the hours after his own death, the despair of his only family and the cleaning of his own blood spilled on the ground.
Calynn only shakes her skin, identifies herself, but is unable to notice the only difference: her absence from family coincides with many feelings of that man, why go the hard way? What is achieved when nobody in the world worries about knowing if you still have enough vitality in your veins? That blood is the same as that of their little broken hearts.
The chorus of the song spread through her ears, apparently Calynn could only lament, but it would be so simple to end with her and end this eternal suffering forever and thus save her friends from this agonizing present that had been chasing them for over a year, all to save her. She thanked her from the heart, but feelings of guilt would harass her in any way and walk hand in hand for the rest of her life. Oh, children
Apparently, the man in the song was complaining about something he had done before, something dark, something that made him live in fantasy, something that had started as a little fun. This time the girl looked away at Severus as she watched as he looked at the mark of his forearm heavily, he couldn't help feeling regretful.
That man considered continuing to live as something equivalent to locking himself in an eternal cell.
The chorus returned, with the same intensity as before, the voices so depressing affected anyone who heard it, the voices seemed to regret it the same way Calynn and Severus did.
Lift up your voice, Lift up your voice. How were they supposed to do it if they yelled no matter how much they yelled? Apparently, the power of words had vanished in this situation, they would have to be understood with actions. His voice seemed to be the mood of most adults who didn't know them enough, which was actually a large part of them. Oh children; rejoice, rejoice; Little Black confined herself to that irony pass through her ears from side to side.
Once again, the guitars completely seized the sound, Severus had turned his gaze to the face of little Black, his expression only denoting how disappointed he was of himself. Just like the little girl, the boy felt guilty about what would happen shortly. Ideas and actions that seemed absurd passed through his head, he just wished he had never joined that dark side that had separated him from the best people.
The man's friends were in the same situation as him, his simple existence was not enough. To some, death had already covered them with their mortal mantle, hoping that man would accompany them shortly, with the same cause of death: eternal despair. But this is only beginning, little Black began to realize the value of her friends, even if they were going to risk her life for her.
She felt her effort to keep the tears inside her eye sockets, she didn't want to show weakness, but she found it difficult to show what her thoughts most represented, her head mixed emotions that even she didn't allow herself to accept. Every detail, every person, every object brought to mind something related to tomorrow's plan, was tired of not being happy, but apparently that feeling would continue to exist for at least a little more than a day, she didn't know if she would stand it.
Oh, children.
It was evident that this man had lost hope, he considered that taking his life would heal his fears, that short, simple and transparent solution like glass. She only had to find one among the many bodies that abandoned her next to them when they decided that the best thing was something short, simple and crystalline that would lead them to freedom.
Again, the choir filled his ears; oh, children; the same prayers collided with their ears while the boys listened silently. It seemed that the song begged them to speak, to mention their deepest pain, but they were sure that no one would listen to them, they were completely alone, the teachers had done their best and knew that the dialogue would not be of great use to them in the battle. Oh, children.
How would they be able to enjoy a feeling like that? Fear prevented them from thinking, the plan was finished, but their preparation was not completely finished. They were tired, they were nervous, they just wanted to play, they just wanted to smile, they just wanted to enjoy.
Apparently, the man had witnessed the case of an old friend, who, as an option, had chosen to become someone like those who had cornered him in a difficult situation. He came to ignore it, it seemed that they had changed it, that their old friendship had been left in some other space and that they had abandoned the body they previously inhabited. But in spite of everything, they would inspect it to be able to deduce if it was worthy to be part of that group of people, the same one that had led them to take their own lives.
A piano rang behind the voices of the choir, following the same melody on which the entire song was based, it was a more acute repetition, it looked like the notes of hope itself, the one that most of the protagonists of that song had lost and the one that also tried to keep Calynn and Severus inside their hearts. Oh, children.
It began what appeared to be the last stanzas, Severus' gaze turned to little Black without saying a word, her skin was white as a ghost. He noticed the crystal tears that slid down the boy's cheeks while observing the girl. He cried silently and staring blankly because there was nothing else to do to protect Calynn.
They looked at each other for a moment while the chorus sounded behind them, the same prayers were repeated before their ears as long as their gaze did not depart. Severus lifted one of his hands with care and delicacy, dragged it slightly along the floor while preventing her from shaking and placed it just above his friend's while little Calynn was startled a little, but enjoyed the protection he gave her. Her simple presence over hers gave her a feeling she had never experienced, she felt free, she felt herself. He had nothing to hide, there were no secrets between them, that caress was the very representation of trust between them and the closeness of a person who really loved her for her true identity, wanted her for her huge heart.
They both intertwined their hands without saying a word, the boy got up and then helped his friend do the same while they walked a little towards the tables of the Great Hall, looking for a little more space so that later Severus dared to take the waist of the girl while they both hugged and began to move slowly with the song.
Just that last stanza told how happy the man was after having made the choice to take his own life, he had reached the kingdom where everyone was having fun. Ironically, little Black managed to smile as she had not done for a long time, the closeness with Severus gave her security, but, even more important, she gave her infinite happiness, she didn't want it to ever end, was this a stretch of the imagination?
They moved to the beat of the song, both were more than close, the boy felt his friend's breath on his neck while she was delighting in his bitter smell, the essence that Severus used was according to his personality, but he couldn't help a light sweet aroma that only certain people noticed.
The smiles of both showed the peace that each one transmitted, he knew that in that small part of his life they needed each other, in less than twenty-four hours they would both have to ignore themselves inside that mansion as he had done the first time they had met in that place, now they would have to separate forever.
The music began to go out, the choirs were heard farther and farther, it was evident that the song was ending. Both began to slow down their steps, but their gaze remained fixed on each other's eyes without avoiding a smile. When only a little of the instruments were fully audible, they both stopped delicately, Severus separated her hands from little Black so that she would then pass two of her fingers over her friend's forehead so that in this way she would remove her hair from the face, he caressed her cheek, curious and then joined her lips with those of her partner as she closed her eyes and just enjoyed that moment. Calynn corresponded the kiss and also closed his eyes, although it was not their first kiss, this seemed to be because for the first time she could feel the way in which love flowed between them. They had something in common that connected their hearts in a memorable way, they began to form bonds difficult to break.
Severus was no longer just a friend, he wasn't just a trustworthy person, he was a love she got too late.
They separated while both opened their eyes at the same time and did not separate their eyes, each was delighted with the other, there was a certain brightness and color that enchanted them so that they never forgot, never.
"Thank you," Calynn muttered under her breath before hugging her partner, the feeling of Severus' arms around her made her feel very safe, it was one of the few ways to forget everything, the only way to ignore fear and say goodbye to sadness.
They both separated so that later they realized that they were observed by all the students in the Great Hall, their cold, disgusting and hateful looks fell upon them like a meteor shower; they had to be strong enough to prevent any of the thousands present in the room from caring.
"A Gryffindor girl and a Slytherin student?" A questioned a boy of Hufflepuff quite surprised, the murmurs began seconds later, accompanied by insults and discriminating words.
"Not only that! She's the Death Eater girl and Severus Snape, another of the possible followers," a Gryffindor student mentioned. There were few who were amazed after that comment, their identities were very well known within the school.
"Surely they plan to raise the next most faithful followers of the Dark Lord," shouted a boy in a reddish robe. "If you're still alive," he finished with a slight macabre tone.
Severus noticed the change in his partner's breathing and his handshake became stronger and stronger, so, leaving behind the students' uproar, he took his partner more strongly and ran out of the Great Hall together to begin to go up the stairs of the lobby and thus get as far away from those offensive comments that haunted their ears. They relaxed for a moment that they took the opportunity to stop and take a breath so that later Severus began to climb the steps with Calynn following the steps.
"Where are we going?" Asked little Black, slightly surprised.
"I will accompany you to the common room, I must leave in just a few minutes," he said confidently. Calynn smiled at her in gratitude for accompanying her, but her gesture later became sad, it was obvious that she no longer remembered that that same day she would have to say goodbye to that pleasant Severus forever. Thoughts and worries about what would happen tomorrow had returned to her head, the magic of that romantic encounter had vanished as quickly as it had arrived. Now more than ever, she wishes she had never developed the feeling of love, because it only made Severus's separation twice as difficult.
They continued walking in silence, often they crossed different looks mixed with the feeling of attraction, fear and sadness at the same time, but that did not cause those little moments to be of the most valuable. They did not need words to understand each other completely, they were enough silences and looks.
They arrived in front of the painting that hid the common room of Gryffindor, the time had come to say goodbye and try to forget so that they could continue living, but how can she forget a newly known love? They both sat next to the painting, their backs were leaning against the wall while their hands rested on the floor, completely intertwined.
"What will I tell Lily?" Asked Little Black with some regret in her voice. It was something she had not imagined until that moment, although the redhead no longer had a relationship with Snape, that did not mean that she had completely forgotten. How would her friend take Calynn's decision to kiss the same lips she had kissed before?
"I think that corresponds to you," the boy began after a while, he didn't know what to say at all, "she has left my life forever, I'm just a hindrance in Lily's life," he continued, " but you are her friend, you have a very close relationship and she has sacrificed a lot for you, she has accompanied you in the worst moments," he commented in anguish. "I just wish I wasn't the person who separated you forever, I already lost Lily, I don't want to lose you too," he finished.
"But you will, Severus, according to Dumbledore, we will never meet again after you leave tonight for Malfoy Manor, remember?" The girl began. "That moment in the Great Hall was the best moment of my life," said the girl, attracting the boy's attention.
"I should have told you before, I really should have," said the ecstatic boy.
"What do you mean?" The girl's eyes looked at him strangely, she didn't understand what he suggested.
"I should have told you that I loved you," he began. "Since we managed to understand each other better about the common problems we lived with the Death Eaters, my eyes began to see you in a different way, I admired your bravery, your perseverance and how firm you managed to stay despite the influence that the dark side could cause in you," said the boy before blushing, he was not ashamed, he only had a hard time believing that he had managed to externalize his thoughts with his partner in that way. "I think you are the reflection of what I should have done, nor do I have parents who would have supported me in that decision, maybe I would have done it like you," he finished as he reflected his words.
"I haven't done it yet," Calynn replied in a broken voice.
"Well, it's true, but at least I would have gotten something," he finished, bearing the same sad and disappointed gesture he had before.
"It's not time to mourn the past," Little Black began, "at least not now. "I think we should say goodbye, make this moment unforgettable."
Severus looked back at the girl, trying to change his expression so that they could enjoy that moment. They moved closer until their shoulders made contact. The window on their side gave them the bright moonlight that illuminated their faces, which allowed them to be observed with tenderness. The song they had heard a few moments ago seemed to return to their minds, involuntarily it had become their theme, their love ballad.
They put their heads together while simply enjoying each other's presence, listening to the footsteps and voices of the students on the upper floors until the boy broke the silence.
"Do you remember that letter I left on your bedside table during your stay in the infirmary?" Asked the boy with some hope in his voice.
"Yes, I remember it very well, I still have it stored in my trunk. But it had a certain peculiarity, I remember the absence of text after the postscript," the girl commented, but before he let her finish, the boy interrupted her.
"Try placing the tip of the wand over the postscript and then mention 'Revelio'," he said in a mysterious tone before adding more. "Do it when you miss me, it will be a great way to feel that I am still with you," he finished as the girl gave him a huge smile. Although curiosity killed Calynn, she would heed their recommendations, would do so when Severus was in her thoughts and could not keep him close.
The boy got up while watching the moon, the girl imitated him and waited for Severus to mention something.
"It's getting too dark, I'd better go." His eyes were instantly sad, he wasn't ready to leave his partner forever.
Calynn kept silent with the boy, it seemed that his ability to speak had vanished when Severus had finished the previous sentence, today more than ever she wanted him by her side. How she wished that love did not have to end, how she wishes there was neither good nor evil, she only longed for the world to be present for both of them.
"I guess I'll see you tomorrow," the girl commented under her breath, she knew she would, but that she would actually remember that Severus she observed in Malfoy Manor for the first time, that would be the only thing she would get. A silence was made for a few seconds, since neither of them knew what to say, they only wished that there was no danger, that there was no evil. "I will miss you so much!" Calynn said to Severus at the same time that she was pouncing on him and they both joined in a tender hug in the moonlight, the boy also surrounded her with his arms while listening to the sobbing of both, trying to forget that broken heart.
They separated after a minute, looked into each other's eyes for just a moment until Severus turned around, waving that dark greenish robe that represented his house and starting down the steps without saying another word. Calynn stood for a moment completely motionless as she felt the tears roll down her cheeks, it was impossible not to show her weakness at that farewell. She waited a moment outside the common room to try to calm down, wiping away the tears of lost love and preparing to ignore the gestures of any of the students who were still awake. She inhaled and exhaled to relax and then dared to say the password and go through the picture that would take her to that bedroom that she would later remember with longing.
To her surprise, she only met a group of second-year children who were still playing in the moonlight who only looked down when they saw who it was. She climbed the steps totally engulfed in her thoughts as she tried to keep the tears inside her eyes. She arrived at that four-poster bed she had estimated for a long time, changed her uniform since she did not want to make it dirty at night and lay down on the pillow to reflect before closing her eyes completely.
Severus' words echoed in her head, he admired her for her resilience, admired her for her courage, for defending her destiny and for not giving up. She smiled at the memory of those words and the courage they had for her, was exactly what she needed and yearned with all her heart: the love and recognition of someone of her merits through that eternal battle. She knew that the professors had done it before, and several times, but no one had mentioned that the most valuable thing about her was her perseverance.
While the girl reflected on it, Severus climbed onto her broom and embarked on the castle grounds with great melancholy. He just had to fly a little so he could disappear later, but leaving that little distance behind hurt his heart. Not only was he leaving school, he was leaving memories, experiences, laughter, friends, but, above all, he was leaving a helpless heart.
Little Black was beginning to try to fall asleep, trying to forget everything. She wanted to sleep in peace, she wanted to dream about him, dancing as she had just a few hours ago. She wanted to feel his arms around her once more, she wanted to smell his essence again, hear his voice as if it were the first time, contemplate his eyes as if she had never done it, meet him again and feel his lips on her own, knowing that was her first kiss.
She settled herself better, remembered that it was of great importance that she sleeps once and for all because tomorrow would be the least desired by the little girl. She just hoped that they would succeed, that they would come out alive, she and her friends and that Severus would be saved even if it meant that he left her with a broken heart. She just wished she didn't become the man of that song.
