Another day passed by seemingly as Yeeun was working diligently to not make a mess or mistake; that would be impossible as she messed up already a few times when she was interviewing her clients. Wendy was too saddened to break the news of her future fire but Jisoo convinced her to tell her at a later time as it was really important. She decided to tell her during the weekend when Love Agency was not operating on Sundays. But, the uneasy feeling kept picking at Wendy so she decided to tell the news right when Love Agency was closed.
"So, you're saying I only have a month left?"
Wendy and Jisoo both nodded sadly as Yeeun stood in front of the building with a confused expression. She knew herself that she made a lot of mistakes but she didn't want to get fired. Yeeun sighed sadly as she asked hesitantly, "But, what did I do wrong?"
Jisoo replied instead as she knew Wendy would have a hard time breaking the news for her, "The CEO prefers to have a worker who doesn't make mistakes at all. For the few months that you have been working here, he has been very lenient with the mistakes you made..but it seems that he wants that to stop."
"Would I be able to talk to him?"
Jisoo walked on off without replying as she wanted Wendy to finish the discussion. Wendy felt her emotions rising slightly as she enjoyed working with the other and didn't want Yeeun to be disappointed. She patted the other's back gently as she replied back soothingly, "Hey, don't feel too sad. If you get your game up, he might re-consider. I'm told that he does make mistakes at times but you have to know that you will need to step up your game in order to do so."
Yeeun nodded silently without saying anything as Wendy started to take her leave too as Jisoo was impatiently waiting for her. They spoke in their language as they seemed to be bickering about something but Yeeun just watched the two figures from afar as she felt saddened by the news of her outcome. She didn't want to get fired just yet, but she knew that mistakes seem to always be inevitable to her.
She arrived home with three cans of beer as she stumbled her way around her apartment to turn on the lights. After changing into her comfortable sweatpants and t-shirt, she sat on her bed with a huge sigh as she opened one of her beer cans and started to sip quietly as she munched on some peanuts too. She remembered when she first got the job offer to Love Agency as she was constantly searching for a job after she graduated.
The lady who told her about the offer was very elegant with bold, wine-colored hair as she stood tall and proud in front of Yeeun as the hot coffee dripped against her coat. Yeeun apologized immediately as she tried to fix her mistake as she bumped into her. But the lady was far not interested in her coat but rather had her attention focused on Yeeun's face. Yeeun was taken aback because it was super uncomfortable for her to be stared at for a long time. But the woman spoke gently as her voice was as soothing as the ocean waves, "Are you interested in getting a job?"
Yeeun widened her eyes drastically as she was very desperate for one as she yelled out excitingly, "YEs!"
The people in the cafe stared at the pair when she did so as Yeeun turned her head down to not gravitate any more eyes on her. The woman laughed gently as it echoed throughout the cafe as people were staring and whispering amongst themselves. Without another word, Yeeun's arms got dragged out of the cafe as the woman was hurrying across the streets as Yeeun followed like a lost puppy. They both arrived in front of a tall, gray building with the words: Love Agency written on the sign.
Yeeun squinted her eyes to get a better look at the place but the lady stopped her from doing so as she announced confidently, "This is the best matchmaking business within the world. There are so many franchises, actually one in each country. They are looking for an intern and you may be the perfect one for it."
Yeeun scoffed gently as a response to her comment as her expression turned even more confused by the situation. She replied with much suspicion, "I am not sure if they will even accept me here. I, myself, don't believe in love."
"And why is that?"
Yeeun couldn't believe her own ears as she did not realize that she would be questioned about love in the middle of the day by a random lady of whom she accidentally spilled her coffee onto. She also didn't understand how this random lady was offering her a job in which she wasn't even going to be paid as a full-time employee. She sighed soon after before responding back with a questioning tone, "Love is something that I don't have time for. It takes away too much time, and time is not evenly shared within the universe."
The lady turned quiet for a few moments as there were people walking in and out of the building which really intrigued her. Yeeun was hesitating on whether if she should leave but the lady stopped her by replying back, "Why don't you give that a shot then? Maybe helping other people fall in love can help you decide whether you should fall in love or not."
Yeeun was not completely on board with the idea but the lady continued to persist that she try for the job offer. She would be the perfect match for this job as Aphrodite found it a challenge to accept. Someone who thought the same way as her son did but was a complete mess. She found it very ironic for her to think so; that was her main mission of bumping purposely into Yeeun.
Yeeun continued to drink her beer as she remembered how she was interviewed the next day and got hired immediately to work. The mysterious lady was never seen again, but Yeeun was notified that she was not the CEO of the company. She found it a coincidence that she was challenged to accept this job but was never told the actual reason why she should work there. Now she was about to be fired from it, and she felt the disappointment rising within her as she regretted even going to the cafe that very day. All because of that mysterious lady who wanted her to test out her reasons why love may not exist.
"I still want her to work there, Minhyun."
Aphrodite spoke as she drunk her nectar quietly in her cup as she waltzed around Minhyun's office. Minhyun stood up from his desk before making his way over to the open-view of his window of Seoul before replying back with a confused expression, "Why? She's not even that good at working."
"I know. But something really captivates me about her."
"That she also doesn't believe in love?"
"That too. But..."
Minhyun turned his body around and faced his mother as she continued to sip her nectar as Minhyun realized why Aphrodite was so persistent in having Yeeun in the office and also not letting her leave. Minhyun's face darkened as he realized the true intentions before he rejected the idea, "If you think she's going to break the curse, then leave it. I don't want to get rid of it."
"Minhyun, you've been living for centuries in agony already. Why don't you want to break it?"
"Because, I already went through enough of when I had my feelings cut for someone I loved."
Minhyun yelled angrily as his fists had formed when he faced his mother. His mother rarely got to see his angry temper in which she was taken aback as the grip on the mug tightened. Minhyun and his mother stared at each other with the most raging gaze before Aphrodite yelled back upsettingly, "Then do you want to live like this! Forever?!"
"I'll figure out the answer to my curse. But, don't bring in that mere human into this mess because she and I will never be. I will not use the idea of love to break the curse. I don't want to die the cruelest death."
"Minhyun, I'm just trying to help-"
"Leaving the situation up to me is going to be helping me. I will fire Yeeun once the month is up. If she proves to the Agency that she is the good help, then I will let her stay. But anything can worsen within the month mother. Anything. I don't want this to be ever mentioned again between us."
The atmosphere left the pair in cold waters as Aphrodite knew she couldn't mend her son's pain anymore. The more she mingled into his business, the more she knew that her son was going to close himself and his heart out even more. She nodded quietly before placing the empty cup aside on his desk and left the office without another word. Minhyun felt the sorrow rising within his emotions as he didn't want to lash out on his own mother; he just wanted the best for her by leaving her out of his business.
