Can't Call It A Coincident
Soojin
"Soojin! How long will you sleep? Wake up now, child," eomma screamed, and I ran downstairs.
"Today, your father and I are going shopping; you both could decide what you wanted to do," eomma said happily while we were having breakfast.
"Eomma, I'll be visiting my old school and hanging out with my old chingus," Sooah said, putting her dishes in the sink.
By the time I finished my food, she had already left.
Meanwhile, I, Soojin Min, was still confused about what to do and where to go. I left Korea when I was 5; I hardly remembered anyone or anything. Should I accompany my parents? No...bad idea.
"Soojin, if you want to leave the house and go somewhere, then make sure to lock it. Also, inform us where you're going, and don't get lost," eomma said while leaving the house
I nodded and started thinking...should I call my friends, but it's night there. I didn't want to disturb their sleep.
I locked the main door and texted my parents that I was going for a walk in the colony.
I just lied to them because if I told them where I was really going, they would never allowed me.
I reached near the Haesang park and examined the place for a bit. I traced my way to the boulder but it was not there. I looked for it throughout the park and after an hour, accepted my defeat.
This park offered beautiful views of the river and the city skyline. It featured extensive green spaces, walking paths, cycling trails, and recreational facilities for visitors to enjoy. But I was roaming like a careless vagabond with no fixed destination.
"Ahh! jwaesonghamnida," I immediately apologized and bowed because I crashed into a young man. It was my fault only; I was wandering like a careless person.
"Sorry," The young man wore a black mask and a bucket hat and immediately took to his heels. The incident took place within a second, and I wasn't able to see him. I just figured out that he was young; I didn't know how. Maybe because bucket hats were generally worn by youngsters
But wait, the man's accent was French, and his voice was a bit similar to Alain, but it wasn't possible. Gosh! Why was I thinking and imagining him all the time? I wanted to relax...I was totally exhausted at this point.
I returned back home before everyone, and Sooah was the last one to come back. She came at dinner time and looked very happy. Actually, everyone looked happy, except me...
Sooah narrated her experience; she hung out with her friends, visited her old school, went to the spa and karaoke. Savored some delicious Bibimbap, Kimchi Jjigae, Japchae, Kimchi Fried Rice, and boba tea. In total, they enjoyed a lot.
Eomma and appa bought some clothes since K-Fashion was the current trend, and the beauty products were great too. They purchased some clothes for us too, and we both liked it. They dined in an Italian restaurant because appa was craving some pasta.
My day went simple, and I ate a bowl of instant cheese ramyeon. Just 2 weeks more with this.
"Eonni, don't tell it to anyone, but I went to the park to search for... you know, and I crashed into a young lad who was wearing a black mask and a bucket hat. He said sorry in a French accent," I said to Sooah while lying on the bed, knowing that she was my best secret keeper and comforter.
"Oh my yeodongsaeng. Come to me. Listen - forget what had happened; if they are still on this planet, and I hope that they still are, they'll come back, and if they don't, then just stay happy with the fact that they're alive and are living somewhere in this world," Sooah said, hugging me, and my eyes welled up again.
"Hey! You know you should have run behind that man. What if he was a Kpop idol, huh? They usually visit the park on weekends. I would have run behind him," eonni cracked a joke. She knew how to lighten the atmosphere.
In the stillness of the witching hour, I crept down from her bed. With silent steps, I made my way to her room's attached balcony.
The moon hung low in the velvety night sky, casting a soft glow over the city of Seoul. The city, which was always bustling and busy during the day, was so quiet now. Below, the neighborhood was slumbering peacefully with deserted streets. The darkness seemed to embrace the houses.
The streetlights were shining like distant stars. I felt like I was wandering in the galaxy - the scene was like that, except for the fact that the gentle cold air was kissing my skin and there was no air in space.
I took in the quiet splendor of the night, and in that moment, I felt connected to something - for the very first time, I wondered what secrets were the nocturnal world and the millions of galaxies beyond our reach were holding.
Science had discovered so little, and we, human beings, know so little. Would we ever be able to know about the secrets beyond our reach, and if we did, then...would it result in a huge success or an unimaginable disaster?
That's when I, Soojin Min, decided my future goal - I wanted to be a scientist.
