A New Day At A New Place
Soojin
Last night, after a few years, I had those horrifying nightmares again. The nightmares that haunted my teenage years. I heard someone begging for help but couldn't figure out who.
Knock, knock...
I opened the door and the kind waiter served the morning tea as part of their room service. While sipping tea, I looked through some Research Centers in Japan. I needed a job. After two hours of clicking and scrolling through various websites, I finally found a job vacancy at the National Center of Research & Discovery of Tokyo. It wasn't as big or famous as my previous company, but now, my main purpose was to find a job to sustain my life.
I applied, and the very next day, I was called for an interview. It looked like they loved my qualifications.
I arrived at the institute half an hour early. From the outside, I took a look into the building when suddenly nostalgic memories struck my mind. I remembered how Sooah accompanied and encouraged me before the interview at my US office. Tears filled my eyes, but I quickly wiped them away. My ambition sparked, and I told myself that one day, the entire world would know my name.
My platform boots clinked on the polished white marble floor as I walked toward the receptionist, maintaining a confident posture.
"Excuse me, ma'am," I said to catch her attention.
"Yes, how can I help you?" she said with a benevolent smile.
"I came for a job interview."
"Oh, sure, ma'am. You need to go to the 4th floor and turn left. You'll see a door with a nameplate 'Daisuke Nakamura'. He'll be taking your interview," she bowed. After thanking her, I left.
Wow... Japanese people did have good manners. I followed her directions.
"Excuse me, sir, may I come in?" I knocked on the door twice.
"Oh! Daichi, I told you not to disturb me at this hour. Just leave me alone," he said abrasively.
I took out my little box of courage. "Apologies, sir, but I am not Mr. Daichi. I am Soojin Min, who applied for a job at this prestigious Center yesterday."
"Come in."
I stepped into the room. He was seated in a chair, head lowered into some documents. The decor of his cabin was minimalist with personal touches like photos and certificates hanging on the walls and prizes in showcases. The lighting was welcoming. Essential gadgets were there, and his desk was well-organized, unlike mine, which was always messy.
"I hope I didn't scare you. Have a seat," he said, though his tone wasn't apologetic.
"Not at all, sir, and it's a pleasure to be here today," I said with a smile as I sat on the opposite chair.
"Please begin by introducing yourself, Miss Min."
"Good morning, sir. I am Soojin Min, a 26-year-old passionate about discovering the unknown realms of science, unveiling its secrets and of course developing some out of the box machines. My specialty is Robotics & AI," I answered confidently. Unlike others, I wasn't good at expressing my thoughts, but whatever I delivered was the truth.
"It's wonderful to hear that you're a lover of robotics. What made you choose this field?"
I knew I'd be asked this someday, so I had already prepared my answer. "Since childhood, I was never interested in playing with dolls. My father used to buy me robots and often I used to break them to check what's inside. This fascination continued till my teenage hood and then came the revolution of robots. I, too, wanted to create some extraordinary robo capable of doing the impossible,"
"That's a good answer. What motivated you to move from Calonia to Japan, and specifically to our National Center of Research & Discovery ?"
"My motivation to move to Japan came from a desire to broaden my research horizons and work alongside leading scientists in a new cultural and scientific environment. The National Research Center of Tokyo has an outstanding reputation for its groundbreaking research in biomedicine. I am excited about the opportunity to contribute to your innovative projects and make the most of the unique research facilities available here. The prospect of learning from and collaborating with experts in a different setting is incredibly inspiring to me."
After an hour, my interview ended, and I left. I felt I did well and couldn't think of any reason for disqualification.
Five days later, while cleaning my inbox full of spam mails, a special email caught my eye.
It read as follows:

I was overjoyed and thrilled for the new start. Now, it was time for me, Soojin Min, to show Sooah and Alex the real 'me' and what mistake they had made.
But....
Is this really a turning point in the life of Soojin?
Or...
A point,
Where she is about to turn the fate of the Multiverse?

Best of luck Soojin for your new beginning!!
