viii.
After Jun-seo introduced himself to the international students, he took them around the faculty, showing them where the tutorial rooms were, the cafeteria, the student lounge was, and every room and places the students can access throughout their studies at the campus.
At the end of the tour, Jun-seo gathered them at the meeting hall again. "So," he clasped his hands and smiled at the students, "now that you guys have seen the facilities provided around our faculty, I hope they can be helpful to you guys," he said and looked at one student, who was raising her hand.
"The student lounge," she began. "Is it accessible 24/7?"
Jun-seo tilted his head slightly before shaking his head, "it used to be, but..." he paused briefly and scratched the back of his head, as if he was a bit hesitant to talk about what happened in the lounge. He looked at the student, who was waiting for him to continue. "Well, something happened there a few months ago that uh... forced the dean to change the rule regarding the student lounge."
He cleared his throat and slid a hand in his pocket, "now, the lounge is only open between 6 a.m. to 9.30 p.m.," he said while smiling.
"And the tutorial rooms, do we have to make a booking before we can use them?" asked another question.
"Uh, unless it is related to your classes, then, yes. You need to make a reservation at least a day before the date you wanted to use the room," nodded Jun-seo.
The student nodded understandingly, and Jun-seo waited for the next five minutes for any other questions from the students, but when none of them talked, he clasped his hands. "Okay, I guess that is all for now. If there are any updates, I will put them in the group chat. Feel free to contact me if you are having any issues," he paused, his eyes landing on Minji, who was watching him with a small smile.
"You guys uh... you may go to your class now," he told them, grabbing his bag from the chair before watching the students walk out of the room one by one.
Jun-seo bowed to the students who bowed and smiled at him, and after a few minutes, all the students had finally left the meeting hall. Well, except for one; Kim Minji, who remained seated on her seat while lightly tapping the corner of her phone against the wooden table.
It was awkward with only the two of them in the room, but it would be rude if Jun-seo left the room before her, so he stayed on his spot. The only sound filling the room came from the A/C unit. "May I help you, Minji?" asked Jun-seo with a small smile.
Minji shook her head and got up from her seat. "I was just thinking how professional you looked earlier while giving us the tour of the faculty," she exclaimed.
"Ah, I am everything but a professional," replied Jun-seo, feeling humble all of a sudden. "Anyway, uh... you should head to class now," he said after a while, looking at the time on his wrist before tapping his watch gently, walking toward Minji.
Once he was in front of her, Jun-seo cleared his throat and smiled. "What class do you have next?"
"Oh, um," Minji unlocked her phone and went through her notes before reading the name of her class; Hotel Operation Management. It was the same class as Jun-seo's.
Jun-seo's smile grew bigger before he walked toward the door, "oh, that's my class for today, come on," he gestured for her to follow him as he opened the door and walked out of the room. Minji was a bit confused, but she followed him anyway.
They walked out of the faculty area and toward the bus stop a few meters away. "The class is at the new building, so it is best if we go there by bus," explained Jun-seo as he walked beside Minji. He looked at the time again and sighed softly.
The class had started half an hour ago, so they were already late. If they missed the bus, they would have to run there.
—
Thankfully, they managed to get to the bus stop right when the bus arrived, so they managed to attend their first class. Jun-seo and Minji stood by the lecture hall's door, trying to calm their breathing before the former opened the door. All eyes were on them when the door opened and Jun-seo and Minji walked into the class. Some of Jun-seo's friends had a teasing smile on their face as they watched the two.
"I'm glad you could make it to your first class of the semester, Jun-seo. Please, have a seat."
Jun-seo bowed to the professor that was speaking in front. He looked around and decided to sit next to Wonyoung, the only seat that was right under the A/C. The girl looked up from her note, raising an eyebrow. "How was the tour? Did you show the students all of the facilities we told you to cover?"
"Yes, I did," nodded Jun-seo as he placed his bag on the floor, resting it against his table before pulling his notebook and pen out.
Wonyoung, on the other hand, watched him quietly as he took his notebook out. Once he was done, she opened her mouth again. "What about any questions? Did the international students ask you anything?"
Jun-seo huffed, "yes, Wonyoung. They asked me some things, and I answered them to the best of my ability," he said and rolled his eyes at her. "Now, please let me attend Mr. Wang's class in peace," he added before focusing in front.
The girl beside him reluctantly agreed to be quiet for now as she focused on the class as well. But she couldn't help but to look at Jun-seo every now and then, wondering if it was the right decision to put him in such an important position. Now that he was appointed, Wonyoung couldn't help from being concerned for him.
Despite noticing Wonyoung's eyes on him, Jun-seo didn't call her out for it. Instead, he focused on the class, jolting down anything he deemed important, which, for him, was basically the whole PowerPoint presentation made by Mr. Wang.
After an hour and a half, the class was finally over, and Jun-seo quickly gathered his things. He was about to get up and leave before Wonyoung grabbed his wrist, "wait," she said before taking something out of her bag. After a few seconds, she pulled out a lanyard with their university's logo on it with the uni's motto.
"Every student who is a part of the student council is mandated to wear this specific lanyard," explained Wonyoung before grabbing Jun-seo's ID holder, replacing the lanyard that he had been wearing since he first entered the university, with the new one.
She got up and helped put it on. "Put it on, at all times," she reminded him sternly while fixing Jun-seo's collar.
Her action earned them a gasp from their friends that were sitting in front of them. "Admit it, you guys are still together, aren't you?" asked one of them, Belle.
Jun-seo looked at her with furrowed brows, "what—no," he retorted before shaking his head. He sighed and looked at Wonyoung afterward, "thanks," he curtly said before carrying his bag and turning around, about to walk toward the door.
"Uh, Jun-seo, we are not done yet," said Mr. Wang from the podium, making Jun-seo stop on his track. The student sighed softly before turning around to look at the professor. "I mean, we are done with the lesson, but there is something I needed to inform you guys," he added.
While waiting for Mr. Wang to talk again, Jun-seo looked to his side and sat on the empty seat. After a minute, the professor cleared his throat. "Okay, so, I know this is only the first week, but I need to remind you guys about the group assignment," he began before looking at the projector screen, and then back at his laptop. "Later today, I will be sharing a case study in your group. There are five questions following the case study, so you are required to form a group of five, and answer these questions. The due date will be on the 8th week," Mr. Wang paused for a few seconds.
"That's all. You may leave," he finally said and not even a second after he dismissed the class, the students started walking out of the lecture hall.
Jun-seo walked out of the hall and headed for the vending machine. He was going to get himself a can of soft drink when one of his classmates approached him. "Oh, Gyu-vin, can I help you?"
Gyu-vin smiled and crossed his arms, "hey, um, do you have a group yet, Jun-seo?"
"Ah, for Mr. Wang's class, right?" asked Jun-seo as he inserted a bill into the machine and pressed a button, "no, not yet, why?" he continued before grabbing the drink that he chose.
"Well, I was wondering if you would like to join my group. There are me, Kotone, Sumin, and Hikaru for now," replied Gyu-vin.
Jun-seo gave it a thought for a few seconds, cracking open his drink before taking a sip. "Yeah, um, I will think about it," he said with a smile as he looked at Gyu-vin.
Gyu-vin nodded, "great. Just send me a message if you are joining us," he said before tapping Jun-seo's shoulder and walking away.
"Yeah, sure," replied Jun-seo as he watched Gyu-vin walk away. Once he was out of sight, Jun-seo sighed softly and looked at the can he was holding, taking a sip of it before starting to walk as well.
He walked toward a bench and sat there as he watched students walk past him, returning the smiles of the students that he recognized. It has been a habit of his to sit alone while waiting for his next class to start, and in this case, his next class was three hours from now, and he didn't know what to do.
Unlike his friends who preferred to go to the nearby cafe and point of interest, Jun-seo preferred the peace and quiet. He would've gone home if it wasn't for the bus' scheduling for the semester to be inconvenient. His train of thoughts was interrupted when someone approached him.
"Mind if I join you?"
