Yule Ball

Aries didn't bother to hide his sigh of relief when he and Louise escaped from the crowd of dancing teenagers, into the Hogwarts grounds.

It had been a stressful day. He was already apprehensive about about celebrating Christmas, his birthday, Louise's birthday and Yule ball on a single day, and gaining the memory of his previous life didn't help. Adding in Louise's and Fluer's reconciliation and their parent's visit..... this was the first time he was alone with his reincarnated wife since he remembered about her.

Louise glanced at him, having heard his sigh, as she discreetly casted privacy charms around them." Are you alright?"

Was he?

The addition of 37 years worth of memories of another life to his 17 year old mind, when some of his beliefs of both lives contradicted each other, when he had barely time to process it, was a bit stressful. But, at that moment, when Louise gently took his hand in hers and looked at him in concern, he realised that he could actually have ended up alone in this new life, and that might have been more than a bit stressful.

"I'm fine." He answered honestly. "And you?" He knew Louise had experience with reincarnation, but that didn't mean it couldn't upset her.

She hesitated a moment too long before answering, "I'm good."

He raised an eyebrow at that. "I hope you didn't expect me to believe that."

"I had hoped." She sighed. "It's nothing, really."

"Why don't I believe that?"

She gave him a look asking him to let it go. Too bad he didn't have any intention of doing that

It took two minutes for her to crack. "I kinda, almost died this morning."

His eyes scanned instinctively for any injuries and signs of distress, as he struggled to keep himself calm. "What happened?"

Louise had the decency to look sheepish. "This morning when I remembered everything, I lost control and transformed. I couldn't think about anything except the fact that you had died. At that point, I hadn't been able to grasp that, well, you're you and were here with me. I went into the Last Mourning because of that."

"The Last Mourning?" It sounded ominous.

"It is something that happens very rarely when a veela loses the person she's bonded to. It is essentially a slow death."

Aries withheld a sigh this time. "And that was 'nothing'?"

"I'm fine. Nothing happened." She brushed it off. "The more important matter is that this only happens to soul bonded veela. Before I left for the ball, Mama told me that she knows that we are soul bonded. She noticed the presence of bits of our souls within each other."

Despite his annoyance with her for changing the subject, he quickly understood what she was implying. "Souls? As in Yin-chakra, which we exchanged during our first wedding?"

"Exactly. I think that is the cause of you being reincarnated with me. Furthermore, this is also a world which I had read about in my first life. It was a story centered around Harry....."

"I know." Aries interupted. "You told the story of Boruto and Sarada."

"Oh right. I forgot about that."

"Must be hard, living without an eidetic memory." He couldn't help but tease.

"Yeah. It's a real chore." Louise answered with a smile, which was a bit too sharp. " Thankfully, I have you to remember things for me. I shudder to think what would have happened to me without you." She shuddered. "Lost somewhere without remembering my way home. Ending up missing a triwizard challenge because I forgot the date and went to the salon."

"I'm going to regret that comment, ain't I?" He murmured.

"Yup." Louise answered cheerfully. "You know maybe you should write that proposal for Wizengamot by yourself. I might end up forgetting what to mention."

"I'm regretting it already." He admitted.

"Regretting what? I'm sorry Adam, I'm a bit forgetful, what were we talking about?" She actually fluttered her lashes.

Aries sighed.
