The next week felt colder than the Antarctic to Taehyung.
Jungkook was ignoring him all day, he slept in his own bedroom from now on and only joined Taehyung when he went to shower or had a rough day. Then Jungkook would undress and get into Taehyung's office, which he had at his house, and just make him feel better.
But besides from those times, Jungkook refrained from talking to the older, he stopped smiling and spent much time in front of the TV, watching Netflix. Sometimes Taehyung caught the boy sobbing over a movie but whenever he asked him if he could join him watching Jungkook denied and simply said, only if he gets some extra money at the end of the month.
Taehyung felt like the boy was seeing all of this as nothing but a job ever since the day when they met Lisa at the shooting.
It ruined a whole lot for them and Taehyung apologized a thousand times for making a scene-, but he never seemed to understand why Jungkook was so mad.
No one actually did.
Jimin came over once and tried to talk to Jungkook but the boy always changed the topic as soon as Taehyung's name was mentioned, plus he only seemed to call Taehyung boss, not by his name anymore. Something was going on and no one understood it.
Not even Jungkook.
The boy cried every night because he just wanted to be held by Taehyung, he longed for his sweet scent. Somehow he always smelled like roses and happiness. He'd love to ask Taehyung about his day or watch movies with him, but that wasn't what they were.
Jungkook was nothing but Taehyung's fuckboy and he tried to not get his hopes up anymore.
At some point, Yoongi only said, "Treat him like your employee, maybe he'll stop behaving like this then."
Taehyung didn't like that idea for a long time but when he sat at dinner on a Friday night and Jungkook was just looking at his spaghetti without eating them, Taehyung couldn't hold it back in.
"You know, if you want to leave, you can just go. You know that, right?"
It was the first time in a while that Jungkook looked up and right into the older's eyes. "Why would I want to leave?", he asked bluntly.
"You don't seem happy anymore."
"I've never been happy, Boss", Jungkook laughed, "But that's my thing. Don't worry about it."
"I should worry about it, though", Taehyung let out a sigh, ruffling his hair. The younger only smiled, stuffing his mouth with the noodles as he went silent and didn't say another word for the whole dinner.
This happened a few more times, Taehyung would ask Jungkook but the younger would only tell him not to worry. But every time he did so, Taehyung could hear the younger sobbing in his bedroom not much later. He just didn't understand why, he had no clue what happened to the Jungkook he had met only a few weeks earlier.
There wasn't even anything bratty or rude left, he just seemed off. All the goddamn time.
It was Sunday when Taehyung came into Jungkook's room at night and held a paycheck in his left hand. "Hi", he hummed through the darkness. The boy had the lights out, he was reading with his flashlight of his phone. He looked up as he saw Taehyung standing in the door frame, "It's late", he smiled weakly, wiping away the stained tears from his cheeks.
"Can I spend the night with you?", Taehyung asked in a small voice, stepping closer.
"I'm really tired, Boss", Jungkook looked away, his butt still a little sore from yesterday when they did it in the shower late at night because Kook found Taehyung still hanging over his work stuff. "And sore-"
"I didn't mean sex", the boy sighed and sat down on Jungkook's bed, "I don't like sleeping alone."
"Well, if you pay me some extra money", Jungkook hummed, thinking about his bank account which would finally be stuffed with money after being broke all his life. Only like two or three years with Taehyung and he could go and buy his own house and just be by himself. After all, this seemed like the only thing that could bring him happiness someday.
Jungkook had always dreamed of having his house with the person he loved, and a dog that would run around in the garden all the time. Thoughts of having coffee on a balcony in the sunrise or putting together a photo album.
He had his mind full of all those happy things but he never knew who to share it with-, who'd be the one he would want to have all of this with.
When he met Taehyung, he sometimes caught himself thinking of how good Taehyung would look in the middle of a garden that he could have decorated with flowers, or how beautiful his smile would be if he came home from work and Jungkook had cooked dinner for him.
Knowing Taehyung and him could never be that, it hurt.
Even when he would get over Jennie and their whole past-, there was still his job.
He was a celebrity, whether Jungkook liked it or not, but there would always be fangirls stalking after him or paparazzi trying to interrupt his peace. He could never come out to the society because Jungkook happened to be a boy as well and this just wasn't likeable to see around here.
There was no chance of having all he wished for with this boy, so he forced himself to forget about it.
Maybe someday he'd find someone else to share a future with, Taehyung just wasn't the right one.
Taehyung had put the money down on the nightstand and shyly snuggled under Jungkook's blanket, not touching him at all. "Can we talk?"
"About what do you want to talk?", Jungkook asked quietly, looking at the older's sparkling eyes. They held so much passion, so much pain and so much love within-, Kook could fall in love all over again just by looking at him.
So he looked away and stared up at the ceiling.
"About us."
Jungkook's heart dropped at this.
"What's there to talk about?", he asked, trying to seem cool.
"What's wrong, Kookie? Please stop pushing me away", Taehyung tried, biting his lip nervously, "Is it because of the whole Lisa thing? I can explain it to you."
"I don't want to hear it", Jungkook shrugged, "That's your past. I know you're not over Jennie and that's fine. No need to break my heart with talking about her all the time."
"Break your heart?", Taehyung asked confused, "When did I ever talk about her?"
Jungkook remained silent, "It's none of my business, Boss. I'm here for your pleasure, not to be your second option after your girl died."
"There's so much more to this story, Jungkook", Taehyung tried and tried, somehow he just had to get through to Jungkook so he would open up and at least let the older talk.
"Well, then I just don't want to know."
"You can't judge a whole book just because you read the first pages", Taehyung rolled his eyes, "There's more to it."
"Well, some books just aren't worth reading, Boss." Jungkook's voice was sharp, almost warning when he eyed Taehyung sternly who just gulped. He had never seen the boy this put together and cold. At first he had thought the whole calling him boss and being distant was just him being a brat but it got worse day by day.
There seemed to be nothing left of their relationship from the beginning.
"Do you need a break?", Taehyung asked.
"From what?"
"Here", Taehyung replied, "I feel like all of this is getting to your head. Let's just take two weeks off and go on vacation. Is there a country you always wanted to see? We can just go. Two weeks without someone interrupting us, just you and me. How does that sound?"
Jungkook shrugged, not excited at all, "It's up to you."
Tae looked away, a bit disappointed by his reaction. "I think it's for the best if we wouldn't be surrounded by work and this house all the time", he explained his idea and Jungkook simply nodded.
"Okay"
"Where do you wanna go?", Taehyung offered.
"I don't care, you choose", Jungkook smiled sweetly.
"What if we just go somewhere where no one else is? We could rent a small house at the beach, far away from everyone who knows me?", Taehyung suggested and Jungkook internally felt like crying because it just sounded perfect. He could have with him everything he always dreamed of.
But Jungkook knew this was a horrible idea, "I'd prefer a huge city with a bustling atmosphere", Jungkook lied. Being all alone at the end of the earth with Taehyung sounded draining, he would not keep his façade up if he didn't had to straighten up all the time.
Taehyung looked a bit bummed but then nodded, "If that's what you want", he said in a small voice, knowing that there would be fans and photographers everywhere, they'd constantly have to hide and could never really go out for a date.
"Yes, it is."
"Which city then?"
"Chicago", Jungkook said out of nowhere because he remembered that Chicago was a pretty busy city, well known and for sure no place where Taehyung could make him fall in love with him even more than he already was.
"Alright, Chicago it is", Taehyung smiled. "I'll book the flights tomorrow~"
Jungkook gave him a smile and when Taehyung leaned over to press a kiss to his lips, Jungkook felt his heartbeat speed up, just thinking of having two whole weeks to kiss and make out with Taehyung.
Maybe he should take a break from his attitude for a while.
*
Not even 24 hours later they arrived at the airport.
Jungkook had a face mask on and a cap pulled down to his face, eyes hidden by huge sunglasses. There was no way someone could find out his identity, because no one was stupid enough to believe that a 20 year old kid from Los Angeles was Taehyung's main assistant, it just didn't make sense.
Taehyung's face was mostly covered as well but people recognized him anyway, plus there were dozens of girls standing at the airport, just waiting for him to enter his gate.
It was the same thing every damn time he flew somewhere, they somehow found out his flight information and then literally waited there just to get a 20 seconds clip of him.
But of course Taehyung waved all of them, trying to smile at every camera while Jungkook just walked after him, head low so no one could remember anything about him.
There were some reporters screaming questions at them, asking who the boy with him was and where they were going, but Taehyung remained silent while Jungkook felt more and more uncomfortable with the whole situation. He didn't like to be the center of attention, it just wasn't his thing. Not in a big public space.
"I told you, this is a horrible idea", Jisoo said quietly, hurrying next to Taehyung along with Hoseok and some security guards. "I heard way too many questions why your assistant is all covered-"
"Well, I don't care", Taehyung said, worriedly glancing at Jungkook who held his hand to a camera who was coming way too close to him.
Jisoo nodded, she wasn't pushing it any further after what happened with Lisa. She had no idea about what happened between Jennie and Lisa back then, so it was as shocking for her as for Taehyung.
Rosie hadn't reacted all too well as well.
"We need to keep his identity safe", Hoseok grumbled, pulling Jungkook next to him, "And we have to hope that no one will find out you rented a luxus suite for the two of you with a way too huge amount of sex toys in there-"
"It was a special edition", Taehyung whispered back but got cut off by Jisoo who snapped at them, "Can you shut up?! They're recording everywhere-"
"We weren't that loud", Hoseok sighed and Taehyung agreed.
Jungkook however caught up with them now and hurried over to the gate. Taehyung of course had a special entrance, away from the economy class passagiers.
The four of them couldn't be more relieved when they were seated in a room, waiting for the boarding.
"I hate this", Jungkook hummed to himself.
All three looked up from their phones which they were on, eyeing the boy worriedly . He hadn't mentioned anything apart from work for a long time now. "What's wrong , Koo?", Taehyung asked worriedly.
"Everything", Jungkook said, tears coming up.
Jisoo and Hoseok both understood and left the room immediately when Taehyung glanced at them. However, Tae got up and sat down next to Jungkook, wrapping his arms around him, "What do you mean, baby?"
"Everything is so fucking wrong", it broke all out of the boy's mouth. "Nothing is the way I wanted it to be-"
"Just talk to me, we can work it out, Koo", Taehyung said calmly, kissing the tears away that fell off Kook's dark lashes.
"I'm trying", Jungkook cried, "But I don't know how to express myself"
The boy's posture fell a little and he just pressed his head to Taehyung's chest , sobbing heavily, "I don't want to be in the spotlight. I should have never gotten here, I want to go home."
Taehyung's heart hurt a little when he realised that with home, Kook meant Los Angeles, not him.
"To your parents?", he asked quietly.
Jungkook nodded, "Yes, I'm too young for all of this. I don't want to sell my body already or become famous just because I'm some rich man's fucktoy-"
"Jungkook you're not my fucktoy, what the hell", Taehyung blurted out, blushing a bit at the younger's harsh words.
"I am", Jungkook corrected him, "All of this is so fake. You want me because you can't have your girlfriend back and you think I can make you happy but I can't because we can never be what you want us to be. And I don't want to spend a life time wishing for what could have been. I want this to end-"
Taehyung's eyes widened, "You want to break up?"
"Have we ever been together?!", Jungkook sobbed, "Because it doesn't feel likeit."
The older sighed but nodded then, "Okay, okay. But we booked the hotel and the flight and it could have been nice-, Kook please think about it."
Jungkook shook his head, "I want to break up", he repeated his words, panic rising within himself when he realized that Taehyung wasn't letting him go that easily, "I want to leave you."
"Can't you just give me one last chance?", Taehyung begged, scared to lose everything. Only a few weeks were enough to turn Jungkook into his whole world, everything he needed at that time.
"N-no", Jungkook shook his head, "I want to break up."
"But we booked everything and-"
"If I go with you now, can I leave afterwards?", Jungkook cried out, "Please just let me go."
He was panicking, not even thinking about what he was saying.
All Taehyung could do was agree, forcing himself not to cry in front of the boy now.
"So, we'll just hang out there?", Taehyung asked quietly, "No.. boyfriend things ?"
Jungkook gulped, hating the thought of it.
"Yes, please."
"I hate this", Taehyung whispered.
Jungkook smiled through his tears, "I hate this too."
