Chapter 3

Cody’s POV

“Are you ready son?”  Dad asked as I grabbed the list.

“Yes Dad I have the list and I already talked to the sandman making sure he knows who to get to first. This will ensure that each child is definitely asleep before I get there.” I tell him as I roll my eyes because he was checking up on me. “Hey, did you know that His son is taking over for him? What is it with all you old timers?  Are you guys all going to retire?” I asked.

“Well son you know what they say. Out with the old, in with the new.” I smiled, it was more like mom wanted him at home during the night more.

Summer’s POV

I was thinking about life and how I wished things would have been different when the air shimmered around the room. Before I knew it there stood the Sandman and some hot guy next to him. “Hello Summer” He said to me.

“Hey Mr. Sandman” I answered. He smirked because I know he has a name. I just well don’t remember it.

“This is my son Tyler. This Tyler is Mother Nature’s daughter Summer.” I sat up in bed and shook his hand.

“Nice to meet you” he said with a gleam in his eyes. He turned to his father “Is this the girl that” Mr. Sandman hit him in the arm silencing him before he could finish.

“Here, go do your job.” He said as he handed Tyler the bag of sleeping dust. He sprinkled it over Daniel and that made him go into a deeper sleep. This ensured he would not awaken even with a lot of noise around him. I looked up at them questioningly. Before I had a chance to ask why they did that. They shimmered away.

I was left wondering what the hell that was all about. The only time The Sandman was called in was when another mythical person was coming and they had to stay secret. I looked at Daniel wondering why one would come to see him. It was then that it hit me. “No it can’t be” I whisper to myself and then it happens. The air shimmered again and Cody popped in. He had his back to me and didn’t know I was there.

I was frozen to the spot as I saw him walk over to the bed and remove something from under the pillow. “Here you go little guy.  Oh, I see this is the first tooth you lost. That’ something special, you should get 2 coins for that. It will be something you will never forget. The first visit from me, the Tooth Fairy.” He spoke to himself as he worked. That made me smile as I felt my insides flutter. Mom said he would come when he was ready. I wonder if he even knows I’m here.

“I’m sure he will never forget. That the tooth fairy gives out money for teeth.” I said and he turned around fast. I was looking at him and saw the surprise on his face. For several seconds he just stood there looking at me. Then he walked over slowly.

“Summer is that really you?” He asked still looking unsure. I smiled at him and nodded yes. He then ran over and jumped on the bed with me.

“Oh my goodness, I have been going crazy looking for you. I’m so sorry I was such a jerk. I miss you so much. Please take me back. Please never leave me again.” He kissed my face all over and I was very overwhelmed.  I wasn’t sure what was happening. How did he go from ignoring me to this? I pushed him away with one hand and he tried to hold me close to him.

“Cody, stop” I said as I tried to push him away.

He finally moved back and looked at me “Please don’t leave me again.” He pleaded looking so sad.

“You didn’t want me” I said looking down.

“Oh baby, I’m so sorry. I didn’t know what I was feeling. I thought it was from my anger. But the moment you left, my heart was torn apart. Half of it had left with you. Please give me another chance.” I looked at him. I mean I loved him already and mother said he would come to me wanting me. But I must admit I was still a little hurt.

“I have to think about it Cody” I said still not sure if I should let him in again.

“Give me a chance to show you how much I love you.” He said and I smiled, ok I have to let mom’s cousin know. But before I got to the door it opened.

“Go have fun” She said and closed the door again. I frowned surprised then smiled again. This has mom written all over it.

Cody walked over to me “change and we’ll be off.” So I put on a black blouse and a blazer in case we went somewhere cold. “Hold on to me baby” he said and we shimmered away.

I then found myself with him at another house. There he let me help him retrieve the teeth children had lost. Then I placed the coin under the pillow. It was fun and we talked during the whole thing. He told me about getting sent away because he went crazy after I left. I felt bad for him but kind of happy.
