"So I got a Jess theory?"

Lydia announces suddenly and Everleigh couldn't help but look up from the opposite side of her table. Lydia tends to surprise the girl a lot, especially with some of the things that come out of her mouth. One of those moments being now during their study session at Luke's.

"Okay, what's the theory?" Everleigh pushes the subject further.

"I think Jess a crush on you."

Everleigh's smile slightly loosens, "That's not a theory, just a speculation."

"Well, according to a dictionary, speculation is the forming of a theory. Therefore a theory. A Jess theory." Lydia explains with glee as the other girl raises an eyebrow.

"Lydia, he does not have a crush on me." Everleigh sighs.

"I think he does," The girl argues back with more excitement. More than she should have, "Have you really not noticed how different he is with you? To everyone he's so Rebel Without a Cause, yet to you he is just like Mr. Darcy."

    Everleigh giggles, "That's not —"

"Shhh...I'll defend Mr. Darcy, till the day i die," Lydia interrupts and coughs dramatically, "As I was saying, the moment you two met, everything changed for him. He knew you were the one. His heart skipped a beat. —"

The other teen raises a brow, "Are you done?"

Bewildered, Lydia scoffs, "You can't tell me you don't see it?"

"You're not making any sense, so no."

"I may have exaggerated a bit but I still stand by it," Her best friend says as she looks outside the window, biting the bottom of her lip, thinking, "You're the only one that he trusts and he only shows his kindness when it has anything to do with you. — And I've seen the way he looks at you. It's different. Just think about it."

This time Everleigh did pause but only just for a second. A second that Lydia picked up on, "I got a boyfriend."

    "That doesn't answer my question."

Everleigh exhales sharply, "It's wrong of me to think about."

Lydia pulls a face, "No it's not. It's a Jess theory. There's no harm in that."

Eve gives her a look as her friend shrugs. "People around here also do not like him."

    "Don't like who?"

Another voice chimed in. All too familiar one in fact. Making both girls to freeze up. As Everleigh looks up, she finds herself locking eyes with the actual topic of their conversation. The guy approached the girls at the worst time imaginable even if he had no idea what was happening.

" Uh.." Everleigh coughs, still holding an eye contact with Jess, "No one."

    It didn't go unnoticed by her best friend however. A wicked smirk made its way to her lips;

"Jess?" Lydia brings his attention to her. As he arches his brow, she carries on her investigation, "Out of curiosity, do you like anyone? Like maybe have a crush on someone in Stars Hollow?"

The girl on the opposite side of the table turns to her with wide eyes as she whisper-yells, "Lydia!"

"What?" Was all Jess could say.

Lydia ignores the wide stares from the girl and pays attention to the boy with a coffee pod by their table, "Do you like someone? As in would be interesting in going out with someone particularly? Doesn't matter whether they're in a relationship... or not."

And just like that, for that second she noticed Jess's attention linger on Everleigh but the other girl was too horrified of her that she didn't see it. That still didn't stop Lydia from sitting up straight with a wide smile on her face as she rapidly points at him from her side of the table.

"Stop it!" Everleigh tries to grab Lydia's pointed arms

    "But— he — you didn't —"

Still holding onto Lydia's arms, she turns to Jess, slight concern written all over her, "Just ignore her, she's not making sense."

Her best friend gasps and turns to Jess again, only to find him smirking. She glares at him, "I can't believe this. I've been defeated by an evil and cruel monster."

"I'm glad you're accepting your true form." Jess fires back.

Everleigh couldn't help but muffle a laugh. Lydia didn't have any other choice but to kick her under the table. Which caused a reaction out of Everleigh so she defends her actions, "Hey, I'm your friend. You should be defending me."

"And with that, I will leave you to it." Jess announces as he walks away before either of the girls could stop him.

    The Morgan girl watches him walk away, a small frown forms on her face. If what her friend was saying was true, it would change everything and that really scared her. As if Lydia could sense the concern, she opens her mouth to say something but Everleigh perks up before her friend could;

"Do you really think Jess likes me?"

As much as it brings joy to Lydia for being right, she also may have opened a door for something that could cause issues. The question itself made her be a little bit more careful this time, "I mean it is just a theory."

"Right." Everleigh looks down at her pen, "A Jess Theory."

If there was one thing that Everleigh hated the most, it was her interrupted sleep or just being woken up by anything. During school nights she really wanted to be well rested but according to the universe, tonight wasn't the night.

She was upstairs asleep in her room when slowly she was being woken up by a phone downstairs. At first she tried ignoring it. The third time it rang, she was slightly irritated and hoped her dad was awake to answer it. The fourth time it rang, she groaned and cover her ears with the pillow. The fifth time it rang she was ready to burn the phone. By the sixth time, she had no choice but to march down the stairs to answer the phone herself.

    As she gets downstairs in the living room, the phone stopped ringing and she pauses. Whoever was calling, had a death wish, she could've killed someone with the way she was feeling. Just as she turned around to go back to bed, the phone rang again. She quickly marches towards the phone and says;

"You've reached the circus. Which clown are you looking for?"

"Ha! That's a good one," The person on the other line says, amused, "Even for this time."

She would blame her being half asleep to wondering who was on the other line but she wasn't. Considering the phone has rang for too many times to have her be wide awake. She pulls the phone away and looks at it and then to the clock on the wall. Clearly reading 11:45pm. She liked Lorelai but to call this many times, she was starting to reconsider that appeal.

    "Hello? You're still there? Helloo—"

Lorelai keeps rumbling and the girl puts the phone back on her ear. Just in time for her dad to finally make an appearance downstairs, looking more confused than ever, "Lorelai? Are you okay?"

"Yes, –ehm actually kinda no but yes." Lorelai says, "— Is your dad there? It's really important."

"Considering you called like a lunatic, yes he is," With that she reaches the phone out to her dad to take.

When he does, she drops onto the couch, settling in comfortably. She leans her head against the armrest and closes her eyes, but her dad taps her head to keep her awake. She groans but sits up, and just like that, her dad walks away with the phone so she can't overhear the conversation.

A few minutes later, he returns to the living room, and she catches him saying, "—honestly, Lorelai, it's fine. I'll be awake, and so will Eve." At the mention of her name, she raises an eyebrow, watching him hang up the phone and nervously clap his hands together. "So, how much do you love me?"

"What did you do?" she asks horrified.

" I can't believe you're letting Lorelai and Rory spend the night." Eve mumbles, leaning against the wall as her dad sits down on the stairs. Both facing the front door, waiting on both Gilmore girls to arrive.

"Their house has termites, they had no where else to stay. So please be nice."

"I am nice ," Eve crosses her arms.

"I thought you liked Lorelai?" Her dad asks, looking up at her.

"I do. It's— it's the other version of her I am not fond of."

"Who?" Her dad watches her as she looks away, slightly annoyed. "Rory? She's lovely." Everleigh turns to her dad is horror and he sighs, "—You know you will have to get along with her at some point."

"Yeah at some point...," The girl mutters, "When I reach the Neverland."

    As the father and daughter argue, it went unnoticed to them that the two Gilmores stood outside their door. Having slightly similar conversation;

"Why couldn't we just stay at Sookie's?" Rory whines, glancing at her mom.

"Sookie wasn't answering, so I called Mark." Lorelai replies, shrugging.

"You could've called Sookie more than once." Rory points out, "Maybe if you called her the same amount of times as you did Mark, she would've answered. Everyone would've."

Lorelai turns to her daughter with creased brows, "I thought you liked Mark?"

"I do. It's just.. you know..."

    "Everleigh? Why? cause of Bl—"

"No!" Rory interjects, shaking head, "She's...mean."

"She's lovely." Rory's eye go wide as she stares at her mom and Lorelai sighs, "You know, honey, you will have to try and get along with her at some point."

Rory crosses her arms and marches closer to the door and knocks, "Fine."

Not long after the door swings open and the Gilmores were greeted with Everleigh and her dad.

Everleigh, whom wore the tightest smile possible, says, "I'm so happy you're here."

━━━━━━━▼━━━━━━━

Rory Gilmore had visited the Morgan household a few times before. However, Rory had only ever been on the ground floor—never upstairs, and certainly not in Everleigh's room.

Given the nature of their relationship, Rory never imagined she would find herself anywhere near Everleigh's room. She didn't know what to expect from it, as she still wasn't particularly close to Everleigh and only knew the basics about her.

As Rory's eyes swept across the room, she took in the lilac-painted walls, the bookshelves adorned with Buffy the Vampire Slayer posters, and the double bed. What really caught her attention, though, were the photo frames on the chest of drawers. Some of the photos featured Everleigh with Lydia, others even with Dean. But the one that Rory picked up was of Everleigh and Blaze. —Him kissing her cheek as Everleigh tried to stifle a laughter.

     Everleigh noticed.

"I have more photos in my photo album but those ones are my favourite." Everleigh admits.

"These are really cute." Rory compliments.

"The one of me and Blaze is actually the one Dean captured right before he moved to Stars Hollow," The girl mentions.

Rory nods, "Oh... yeah that's a really nice picture of you both..." She trails off and a silence falls between the girls, not until Rory adds, "I'm sorry for having to crash. Not my idea."

"I gathered," Everleigh comments with a roll of her eyes, "Is the termite issue really that bad?"

"I believe so," Rory shrugs as she climbs up in the bed. Everleigh found this whole night very odd but doesn't mention anything, "It just made us feel very creeped out and knowing those little creatures are in our house right now, made us uncomfortable and unpleasing to sleep at."

"If that happened to our house, I probably would feel the same way," Everleigh shivers at the thought of it and climbs into the bed, next to Rory. Everleigh lies down in the bed but notices the other girl sitting up, "You know, you can go to sleep. I am not going to kill you, I'm more creative that way."

It was Rory's turn to roll her eyes but with a tiny smile lingering, "It's not that. I — Can I ask a question? It's about Jess." Everleigh confused by it, sits back up and turns to Rory, giving her the cue to continue, "Blaze and I was talking this morning and he seems to think there's something going on between you guys. I know it's none of my business but I gathered if this comes from the outsiders perspective, he'd let it go."

She thinks about the conversation she and Lydia had earlier today, "Uhm, I'm kinda bored of the Blaze vs. Jess topic but no, there's nothing going on. He is just my friend."

"Thank you," Rory nods happily and Everleigh pulls a face so Rory backs up her comment, " I said the same thing to him. Jess seems to be a touchy subject to everyone in this town and it's really annoying."

"Finally something we can agree on." Everleigh says and both girls acknowledge each other with a smile before finally going to sleep.

━━━━━━━▼━━━━━━━

There's been a routine for the Morgans sisters: they send each other a letter at least once or twice a month, telling each other everything the other wanted to know about their lives. No matter how big or small the detail was. Their promise was to stay in touch through letters but for the past two months, Everleigh hasn't received anything from her sister. Not a single thing. The girl knew nothing bad has happened cause her dad still makes his visits to New York for her sister.

There was a slight worry that she finally gave up on Everleigh and moved on. That was until she was ready to confront her dad about it, but notice a letter addressed to her. In a handwriting that she recognised all too well. Yet when she opened it, what she read wasn't what she was expecting:

    dear, everleigh!

it's been a while since ive written to you. i am so so sorry! life has been really hectic recently and my mom...well our mom has been keeping an eye on me. especially when it comes to writing to you...

the other day i suggested for us to meet up. like you and me. i think the older i get, the harder it is. i don't think i even remember your voice and that adds to the list of things as of why it's hard. and with me going to college soon i feel like it feels appropriate for us to meet. what i'm also trying to say is that i just miss you a lot as well.

however, when i suggested the idea to mom, she became weird about it and has been vary of me talking to you. mentioned it feels irresponsible and not appropriate to do so, she doesn't know you and/or how " reckless" you still are. or i'm not eighteen yet and my mind is not fully developed to make these type of decisions blah blah blah. when i suggested the idea to our dad, he was so excited and happy to hear that, and so up for it but it was mom's decision in the end. which kept me torn.

but hearing from you through letters feels like it's not good enough. stars hollow doesn't seem all that far from new york either, so i don't think i can wait any longer. so i had an idea.

my mom and stepdad are going london for a business trip and are leaving me at the house on my own for a week or something. so i was wondering what if we do meet up but not tell our parents. you don't tell dad a word about this and i do the same with mom. we could meet up somewhere in new york for a day, grab a hot chocolate, go to a park, anything really. a day with you will be enough for me to keep me happy.

what do you say? are you down for it?

     ( please say yes )

with lots of love,
your sister, emberly
