Lydia Anderson wasn't like Everleigh Morgan; she wasn't a people's person. From what she's seen and heard, Everleigh has no problem making friends. She didn't know how the girl had the confidence to just approach a person and start a conversation with a complete stranger. Maybe it was because she was born and raised in a small town with lack of communication skills or maybe it wasn't in her to approach a stranger. She rather minded her own business and continued living.

She really didn't know, but the drastic difference between them was there. The girl was in town for only a month and she already was making more friends than Lydia has ever made her whole life. Lydia truly was amazed by Everleigh.

    However, Lydia only was able to learn all that through her interactions with the girl. The actual thing that got them connected was one thing and one thing only;

    Their dislike towards Rory Gilmore.

Everleigh might dislike the Gilmore teen because of the wrong actions towards her best friend or the fact the two tend to clash with one another due to sharing similar traits. ━ Don't take Lydia's word for it, that's just an observation she has made. Or maybe because the two girls were too stubborn to get to know each other after the first few interactions they've had hasn't gone all that smoothly.

Anderson's reasoning was completely different. In fact, Rory and Lydia used to be friends. Really close friends, actually.

Just like every other person living in this small and disastrous town, she knows every single person living here. So it was no surprise when starting kindergarten she made friends and the first ever friend she had was Rory. And of course later on, Lydia became friends with Lane Kim. The trio was inseparable and they'd do everything together. Then middle school arrived and they started to find different interests, making things to change in their friendship. Rory and Lane stayed closer together rather than together with Lydia and she was left with nothing but a heartbreak of losing her two best friends and them having more fun without her.

She lost friends she cared about the most and they didn't miss her for a second. Lydia knowing she wasn't needed in the group, detached herself from both of them. The only one who sometimes tended to approach her was Lane and only her. Small talks passed between the girls from time to time but never the conversations they had before. Maybe Rory was too busy and distracted with her new private school or maybe she knew Lane was a better friend than she ever was.

That's the reasoning behind her dislike towards Rory. A jealousy of some sorts if you like to put it like that.

However, there was a silver lining in the situation after all; she became friends with Jo Williams. Someone who she can call her best friend even now. Plus, Everleigh seemed to enjoy her company as well. For what reason? She didn't know but she wasn't going to complain either..

That would also be the reason why the two would find themselves in the conversation right now.

     Both situated by the table in Luke's;

" ━ Blaze seems to like Rory as well," Everleigh points out as both teens watch Rory and Lorelai walk away from the Luke's, "I feel like I'm losing my mind over this and my boyfriend seems to find this amusing."

A quick idea pops in Lydia's mind and corners of her lips start to twitch upwards. She turns her head back to Everleigh, seeing her nibbling the muffin with fingers and not actually eating it. Her focus on the chocolate muffin as she continues venting on about the Gilmore girl.

"I bet you, you can't even be nice to Rory for a day." Lydia bets.

The other girl stops her movements and looks up at the Anderson girl. Pondering over the actual idea, she squints her eyes, " I bet you twenty bucks I can."

Intrigue starts to appear and Lydia's attention perks up, "Make it a week."

"You want me to suffer?" Everleigh wonders, one side of her lips lift upwards.

"I find joy in your pain." Her friend admits.

"Fine, it's a deal." Everleigh extends her hand from across the table for a shake.

Not hesitation for a second, Lydia accepts the shake, "Glad to be doing business with you."

━━━━━━━▼━━━━━━━

This was stupid. She no longer liked Lydia. Not one bit.

Because of her, Everleigh found herself standing on Gilmore doorsteps with a basket full of treats and very annoyed expressions written all over her.

All because of one stupid bet she agreed on and twenty bucks, asking her for a few hour shift at Luke's could've just covered that but rational decisions beat her to it.

Ringing the doorbell, she waits for the entrance doors to swing open and not long after they did. She was met with Rory's mother. Lorelai tilts her head quizzically at the teen swaying back and forth in front of her, "Dean's friend, Hi? What are you doing here?"

She forces a smile onto her face, ignoring the nickname, "Is Rory home?"

"Yeah, come on in," Lorelai steps aside, allowing her to walk inside the house. Slowly the girl accepts the invite and steps inside. As soon as she steps inside the household and the doors get closed, Lorelai announces, "Rory! Dean's friend is here."

Everleigh couldn't help herself but to correct, "I've got a name."

"I know and Everleigh is a beautiful name," The woman says with a wide smile spreading across her face, "I just love seeing you twitch and get annoyed."

Everleigh lifts her eyebrows at that, "I'm so glad my suffering gives you joy."

"I'm so glad to be at your service," Lorelai curtsies and Everleigh couldn't help but to laugh at the action.

"Everleigh?" A new voice joins in and the attention goes to the Gilmore girl who was standing in the living room and glancing from Lorelai to the other teenager, "What are you doing here?''

Winning a bet, she answers to herself.

"We got off on a wrong foot," She extends the basket towards Rory and glances at the woman next to her before so, "So I came to change that."

The Gilmore mother steps away from the two but before passing Rory she says, "Told you she'd come around."

Rory squints her eyes at her mother and watches as she disappears up the stairs, once Lorelai is out of sight, the girl reaches out for the basket. The Morgan girl notes the way she's eyeing the thing in her hands and says, "Don't worry, I haven't poisoned it."

"You didn't have to do all this, " Rory admits.

Everleigh shrugs, "You are my best friend's girlfriend and us not getting along will just make his life harder. Even though that's my goal."

"Thank you." The teen says but even Everleigh could hear the uneasiness in her tone. Seconds later, she pushes further, "What's the twist?"

Everleigh lifts her hands up, "There's no twist. Just me making peace. That's all."

And winning a bet, she thinks to herself again.

"Why am I having a hard time believing you right now?" Rory wonders and starts walking away, making Everleigh trailing behind.

Passing through the living room to the kitchen, she watches how Rory places the basket on the table and eyes the treats inside of it. Everleigh crosses arms as she shrugs, "Possibly because we can't seem to get along but I heard you give people second chances."

"So you want us to be friends all of the sudden?" Rory pushes further, trying to see Everleigh to crack under the pressure but she wouldn't budge.

"Yes?" Everleigh tries, "Just don't expect me to make you a friendship bracelet, wouldn't want to make others jealous."

"There goes my hopes I guess," Rory mumbles back sarcastically, not noticing the other teen's attention going elsewhere. As Everleigh was taking in their kitchen, she found herself staring at a bedroom that had doors left open. Inviting herself in the room, she looks around. Noticing the absence of Everleigh in the kitchen, she follows after her, "You shouldn't be in here. That's my ━"

"You're planning to go to Harvard?" Everleigh asks, interrupting her as she continues to stare at the big Harvard board in her bedroom. Her voice sounding so small and innocent. The moment her eyes wandered around the house and landed on the big vision board, she couldn't help herself but to have a closer look. Especially when it was an Ivy League school. She wasn't sure why but seeing Rory of all people wanting to go to a prestigious college just like her, didn't make her feel any special and different from others. That somehow was disappointing her.

Not being aware of Everleigh's thoughts, Rory nods her head, "Yeah, always have been."

"Oh..." Everleigh inhales sharply, avoiding the stinging feeling her chest, "That's... That's nice."

The Gilmore girl wasn't sure how to follow up the conversation so she asks, "What about you?"

"Yale." She turns to look at Rory, "I want to study medicine and become a surgeon one day hopefully."

That takes the other girl by surprise, "Really?"

"Yeah," She nods her head but stops as soon as she notices the bewildered expression on Rory's face. "What? You don't believe me?"

"I do. It-It just took me by surprise." Rory says and continues looking away, "At least, we won't have to see each other once we graduate."

Everleigh exaggerates a gasp as she places a hand on her heart, "Rory Gilmore. Are you already giving up on our friendship?"

The Gilmore girl presses her lips together, holding back a smile the same way as Everleigh did. Maybe her and Rory had more in common than she thought after all.

━━━━━━━▼━━━━━━━

Here's the thing — Being on your own was really nice, especially when that place was somewhere outside of your room or a house. Enjoying your own company once in a while wasn't all that bad and that would also explain why Everleigh Morgan found herself away from everyone but with her own spot in Stars Hollow.

It took her awhile to find a place where no one could bother her just for a moment and none of the people would walk by. In Stars Hollow that was almost impossible but she did it, accidentally. —Don't get her wrong, she loves being here but she also loves her space and having 'her' time. So imagine her surprise when she crossed the bridge wandering around and coming to the holt when the girl came across a cliff with a view of a forest land. Making that the best view for sunsets and sunrises — which she always didn't hesitate to witness whenever given the choice.

By the close edge of the cliff stood an abandoned stone statue; a member from Puritan family, she found later on. Standing tall with raised chin and both hands curled in fists as they lay on his hips. Weeds grow just around everywhere possible to grow; the ankles, side of the neck, the curled fists. Either abandoned on purpose or not, she never noticed anyone walking past the place or coming towards that direction. She had to ask Kirk to clarify for the information about the place itself and why it was left behind, only to find out the statue was built in the eighteenth century when the Puritan family discovered the area. The more people moved here, the less it became intriguing for others. Therefore, people stopped looking after it. (So it was safe to say she found the perfect place for herself where no one would bother her).

Minus the sculpture, she felt the happiest by the cliff with a breathtaking view.

That also would be a good explanation as of why she found herself sitting down on the ground by the stone figure with a pencil in hand, drawing meaningless sketches in her sketchbook during her free period. Being known as a 'new kid on block' didn't sit well with her or when being stared or talked about.

After a while, she hears slow footsteps approaching behind of her. She glances back just for a second to see a brunette boy her age, wearing a green camouflage sweater with a navy vest and baggy jeans. She also caught a glance of the book he was carrying.

She goes back to drawing as she says, "Try his poetry."

    The guy asks, "What?"

"Jack Kerouac." She looks back at him and points at the book, "If you like that, try reading his poetry."

The nameless guy slowly shakes his head as his lips curl downwards, "Not my thing."

    "Gotcha."

With a response like that, she thought their conversation would've ended there as the seconds passed by but the other teen adds, "You don't look like a poetry fanatic."

She scoffs with an arched eyebrow as she looks up at him, "And you don't look like a book fanatic either but I guess looks can be deceiving."

In return he nods his head and looks down without saying another word. Not knowing what else to say or how politely to tell him to carry on his day and walking away she returns back to her sketchbook.

However, after a few seconds passed she didn't hear any footsteps fading further away from her nor closer to her. She only assumed he was still by her and after a moment her theory was confirmed as flickers of lighter were heard. Only to find him lighting up a cigarette. Before she could stop herself, she comments, "Smoking kills."

Mumbling between his cigarette in the mouth, he replies, "Glad your awareness is high."

That she didn't like. She turns her head towards him and squints, "Well clearly you can't read the room, " Now it was his turn to raise a brow at her so she continues, "It's rude to come to a place where you're surrounded with only another person and it is still a stranger to you. So would you mind?" She points at the light up cigarette in his mouth.

He sighs heavily as she continues to stare at him. He pulls the cigarette away and drops it on the ground, "Okey dokey."

Satisfied with the outcome, she turns back to enjoying her free period as much as she could. Only for a few minutes passing by and hearing slow footsteps approaching her, her pencil movements becoming less active as the guy makes his way towards her. He points at the paper placed next to her, "Is that supposed to be the Grant Wood painting?"

"American Gothic, yeah, " She glances at him in question; more so surprised than anything, "At least that's what I was trying to follow by."

She looks down at the sketch next to her and lifts it up; it was almost identical to the original piece; a white Dibble House at the back with a farmer in front and his daughter by the side. The only actual difference between hers and Grant Wood's piece where the people. Instead of having a farmer and his daughter standing in the frame, she replaced the faces of Taylor as a farmer and Kirk as a daughter, (Yes, she left the whole outfits the same as the original piece).

The other teen takes a place and sits down next to the girl. She raises a brow at the movement and is ready to comment on it when he points at the paper and says, "I think I've seen it before."

Intrigued, she bites the bottom of her lip, "You have?"

"Yeah," He nods and takes the sketched paper from her, "Behind that store."

"You mean Doose's?" She huffs and turns her full attention to him. She was used to hearing Taylor's shouting about the painted wall, Dean's disapproval, Blaze's complaining and Kirk's million questions of painter's identity but never this. (Okay, maybe the closest approval she has gotten was from Lydia with one of hers 'cool' moments). However, the guy next to her didn't judge her or at least his calm tone didn't raise any red flags.

"I guess." Meeting her gaze, he nods again.

Glancing from her sketches to his book in hand and then back to him, she asks, "So you're into art?"

In a shrug manner, he lifts up the side of his shoulder and leans his head towards it, "Not really."

Her eyebrows intertwine as she laughs dryly, "Yet you know who Grant Wood or how the American Gothic looks like?"

"How can you not?" He starts as he looks away from her, "That painting is practically used as an recyclable inspiration object. Even if you don't want anything to do with it, they'll show it down your throat."

"Like creators of Courage The Cowardly Dog being one of them," Everleigh rolls her eyes with a small smile playing on her lips at his baffled expression, "Oh, please, you can't tell me there is not a tiny resemblance between the show and the painting."

He points at her, "I never said there wasn't.''

"So I am right about this." She titters as she raises both of her hands up but as she does so, the time on her watch catches her attention and lips tugging upwards start to fade, "As much as I'd like to continue this debate, I have to head back to school." She quickly puts all her stuff back in the bag and starts making her way back but not until looking at him, "And you should too, otherwise you'll get in trouble."

━━━━━━━▼━━━━━━━

    Jess Mariano.

The new kid on the block.

That's all everyone has been talking about and by everyone she means her and Lydia. There of course were others that were interested on who the new guy was but Lydia and her were more so curious because of him being Luke's nephew. For some odd reason Luke having relatives just seemed very weird and unrealistic.

So it was no surprise that as soon as she stepped a foot inside the school she went to find her friend. Seeing Lydia standing by the locker, she approaches her, "And?" Everleigh asks.

Lydia freezes with arched brow and looks at her, "And what?"

"And did you meet him?" The Morgan girl presses further.

"Nope," Lydia closes her locker and leans into Everleigh to whisper, "Rumor has it, he's in town. That's all I've been hearing today."

Her eyes widened in excitement, "Really?" Lydia nods and Everleigh continues, "It's like I'm about to meet Patrick Swayze. All because it's Luke's nephew."

Lydia shrugs nonchalantly, "That's Stars Hollow to you, " She jabs the Morgan girl in the side, "You had more luck meeting him than us."

"I know," Everleigh's smile widens, "But I did find out his name is Jess. Caesar told me."

Just as Lydia was ready to gossip around Blaze approaches them. He wraps his arms around Everleigh from behind and kisses the top of her head, which only results in her smiling in glee at her boyfriend.

Blaze turns his attention to Lydia as he questions, "What are you two talking about?"

Only for both girls answering in unison, "Jess."

"Oh... cool," He slowly nods his head and unwraps his arms from Everleigh so he could stand next to her, 'Who's Jess?"

"Luke's nephew." Lydia replies for both of them.

That didn't stop from Blaze looking puzzled, so he continues asking further, "If you both haven't met him, how do you know his name."

Lydia doesn't hesitate to point a finger at the other girl as Everleigh ends up raising her own hand. "Guilty. — Curiosity got the best of me, "She turns to Blaze with excitement at the idea wandering at the back of her head, "But speaking of Jess, you two should become friends."

"Why?" Blaze asks, his voice not sounding pleased at all.

"So I know what he's like."

    "Again, why?"

"I wanna see if he's like a mini version of Luke," The girl tries again, " I'm running out of ideas to annoy him."

"I don't need more friends." Her boyfriend reasons with her.

"Pretty please?" The girl bats her eyelashes at him.

Lydia adds in, her comment towards the boy rather than her friend, "You do realize she'll beg until you agree."

Pulling Everleigh closer to him he looks at Lydia as he says, "Oh, I'm aware," He turns to his girlfriend now as she wraps her arms around his torso, "Fine, I'll try."

"Thank you!" She leans in for a kiss. Lydia pulls a face.

"You two are officially disgusting me, I'm gonna go find Dean."

━━━━━━━▼━━━━━━━

As she sits on a countertop, swaying her feet back and forth, she watches Caesar pacing around and double checking the diner. Everleigh has been watching him making sure the diner was ready to be closed and everything was turned off.

Everleigh was going to offer to help but Caesar insisted on her staying put because according to him she spends more time finding stuff at the back and throwing millions of questions his way.

Watching Caesar putting chairs upside down on the table, she ponders, "Why can't Luke do this himself again?"

"I told you, he had plans already." Caesar sighs, not even making eye contact with the girl.

"Right, the dinner with the Gilmores and Jess." She waves her hands in the air. The girl glances at the back where Luke's studio was and turns back to the diner's chef, "So when is he closing up?"

"They're gone already, I'm closing up," He puts the last chair up on the table and walks behind the counter.

"Wait, they're gone?" Everleigh's brows crease together and she jumps down from the countertop. Caesar nods his head and the girl's shoulders fall, "I wanted to meet Jess."

The guy scoffs, "Trust me, not the best person to meet. You'd be lucky enough if you got a full sentence out of him."

"So, in other words, a mini version of Luke, " The girl notes and watches him walking to the entrance of the diner and follows after him, "Gotcha."

" Sounds about right, " Stepping outside, Caesar locks up the diner and turns to Everleigh. Only to put the diner's keys in her hands and her eyes widen. Before she could ask, he continues, "Luke told me to give them to you."

"And to do what?" Everleigh wonders, taken back by the keys in her hands.

"To run the diner yourself," Caesar responds sarcastically and she gives him a pointed look so he sighs, "He wants you to take it to him. I can't do it, family problems."

"He told you that?" She repeats again, very unsure of him and whether he was telling the truth.

He rolls his eyes, "Yes, he told me that. I'm sure he wants to see if you can be trusted. He did the same with me when I started."

Her eyes lighten up, "You don't have to tell me twice." She nods her head at Caesar and starts slowly backing away, "See you around!"

As she continues making her way to the Gilmore household, Caesar shouts at her, "Don't tell him I said that! "

"No promises made!" She shouts back at him and hears him calling out her name as a warning. The teen only found herself smiling mischievously as she carried on walking.

Perks of living in a small town were the close proximity of your desired locations and where you needed to go. The Gilmore household was no exception of that. It only took her a few minutes to reach the house and after her visit with Rory, she found it easier to find the way. Especially now that she and Blaze are back together and was able to see Blaze's uncle Morey and Babette more often. It only did depend on Blaze and whether he had the time to see them.

As she approaches The Gilmores household steps on the porch. She really had no idea as to why Luke was already trusting her with his own business keys, he only knew her for a month or so. If it was her, she wouldn't trust a seventeen year old with keys that means everything to you but at the same time Caesar was only a year or two older than her and look at him. If Luke wasn't around, Caesar was.

After ringing the doorbell, it only took seconds for the door's to swing open and reveal Lorelai Gilmore greeting her. This time she wasn't surprised seeing her, "Dean's friend! Come on in, Luke said you'd be making a visit."

She laughs nervously as she steps in, "I'm glad you knew because I didn't."

"Well, that's Luke to you. He is full of surprises recently." Lorelai tells, her smile becoming more forceful. Taking note of that she stays quiet and averts her eyes from the woman to the living room. Where a table of six was placed with all its utensils and homemade food. Lorelai places her hands gently on the girl's shoulders and guides her to the kitchen, "Luke! She's here."

As they both enter the kitchen she is greeted by her boss, Sookie and a man who introduced himself as Jackson. Then as soon as the small 'hellos' got exchanged, she watches Jackson and Sookie going back to mumbling between themselves and waving hands around the cooking pan. Ignoring them two, she fishes out the keys and hands it to Luke, "Caesar double checked everything before he locked up."

Taking the keys from her, he asks, "Thanks. Was there any trouble after I left?"

She shakes her head, "Not really, it was still quiet, so we just ended up closing early."

The teen nods her head and looks away. In all honestly she just wanted to leave at this point. She felt like an outsider here and felt as if she didn't belong with any of them here. It almost felt as if Lorelai could sense the uneasiness she was feeling because she clasps her hands together and offers, "You can stay for dinner. Sookie's made food that could last for weeks."

Hearing her name, she chims in, "I got pot roast."

The teen scrunches up her nose, "I don't eat meat, sorry."

    "What about Grilled cheese?"

"Lactose intolerant." She replies again and instantly apologizes, "Sorry."

"Boy, you do make ordering food sound fun." Lorelai comments.

"Meh, someone's gotta be the problematic child," Everleigh tries and mumbles quietly the next part, "Quite literally."

"We got mashed potatoes, four different types of salad and I'm sure Sookie can find something else to make for you," Lorelai suggests.

"It's okay, seriously. I told my boyfriend I'd be spending the night at his so I'm sure he is expecting me soon." Everleigh rejects the offer.

"You sure?" Lorelai double checks and the girl nods, "Okay then. You can say hi to Rory before you leave. She's in her room with Jess."

Lorelai smiles at the girl before turning to Luke and the two start talking among themselves. She had no other choice but to see the other teens before leaving. Entering the room she found Rory talking to a guy by the bookshelf. Which she only presumed to be Jess. The more she looked at him, the more his features became familiar. That was they both felt her presence in the room and turned to her. Making an eye contact with Jess, realization hit her and she remembered why he was all so familiar to her. He was the guy she met yesterday.

Interrupting her thoughts, Rory says, "Everleigh? What are you doing here?"

Glancing away from Jess she crosses her arms, "I needed to give Luke his keys."

"Oh," Rory glances at Jess and then back at her, "Well, this is Jess."

Rory waves at him and Everleigh smiles, "Yeah I figured, we've met already actually."

    "You have?" Rory asks.

    Jess nods his head, "Yesterday."

"That's nice." Rory comments and Everleigh purses her lips together.

"Okay, we really need to get Jackson away from the lemons," Lorelei appears with two bowls of salad in her hands and the teenagers turn to her, "So we're moving the feast to the living room."

"Be right there." Rory answers for all of them.

Before disappearing Lorelai turns to Everleigh, "You sure you don't want to stay?"

    "Positive." She reassures.

"Well, if you change your mind just grab a plate and join us." And with that the woman disappears and Everleigh turns back to Rory and Jess.

The Gilmore girl moves past them both, making her way out of the room but before she does so, she asks, "Before we go and eat, do any of you want soda?"

They both shake their heads in response and Rory leaves the two alone. As soon as Rory disappeared, Jess turns his attention to a window, lifting its curtains and looking for a clunch.

Everleigh raises a brow, "What are you doing?"

"Bailing." Jess responds, glancing at her, "Wanna join?"

The girl couldn't help but to laugh, "No?"

    "Why?"

"Because for one you're in Stars Hollow, there's nowhere to bail, I've tried and I already have plans for tonight." Everleigh answers bluntly.

"So? Won't hurt anyone to just wander around." Jess tells her.

Biting her bottom lip, she instantly thought of herself and when she first moved here. She may not know Jess but she knew how it felt to be a new kid, "Look, people here are good, so don't run. Trust me."

    "I don't even know you."

Slowly walking backwards, she admits, "That's the whole point of strangers, you gotta have a little faith in them."

    And with that she left.
