Chapter 22
Sanjana took a deep breath, adjusted the bear-themed dress Jungkook had chosen, and glanced at her reflection in the small mirror near the door. She had accessorized the dress thoughtfully, combining everything her friends had gifted her. Hobi’s colorful necklace added a playful pop, Jin’s pearl earrings lent elegance, Namjoon’s sleek wristwatch gave a subtle sophistication, Suga’s soft velvet headband held her damp hair in place, Jimin's soft slippers so coziness and Taehyung’s charm bracelet added an extra meaningful touch to her wrist.
Her heart warmed as she admired the collective effort reflected in her look. Each item was so different, yet they somehow harmonized perfectly—just like the boys themselves.
Sanjana pushed the door to the terrace open, the cool night air brushing against her freshly washed skin. Her breath hitched as her eyes took in the setup. The terrace was softly lit by strings of golden fairy lights, casting a warm glow over a cozy arrangement of cushions and blankets. A small table sat in the center, laden with snacks, drinks, and a cake.
Jungkook leaned casually against the railing, hands in his pockets was looking elsewhere. But the moment he heard the door sound, his eyes snapped to her. “Wow,” he said softly like a whisper which he tried to suppress but still outburst almost out of himself. “She's wearing it.”
Sanjana blinked, surprised. “What’s all this?”
“Just something... simple,” Jungkook replied, shrugging nonchalantly, clearly pleased with himself but still a bit hesitant.
Before Sanjana could respond, the door behind her burst open, and Taehyung strode in, his presence commanding. His sharp eyes darted between Jungkook and Sanjana, lingering a moment too long on her.
“Simple, huh? I wouldn’t call this simple,” Taehyung said, smirking as he walked over to the table. “But, of course, this is Jungkook’s style— too flashy and extremely predictable. This can not even come in the list of surprise.” Jungkook’s smile which was for Sanjana vanished and got tightened, his jaw start to clench, but only his sanity Sanjana was present so he was in control of himself. “At least I know how to plan something meaningful,” he retorted, straightening up.
Before they could escalate further, the door opened again, and Hobi bounded in, his cheerful laugh breaking the tension. “Whoa, what’s this? A private date? You didn’t invite the rest of us?”“Hyung, you’re ruining the mood,” Taehyung muttered, "Cant you come a lil late huh...always too punctual..."but Hobi ignored him, plopping onto one of the cushions.
But the moment his eyes went to Sanjana, he leaped up and started clapping his hands in excitement. “Look at my PRINCESS....!!!”He gestured wildly, circling her to admire the entire ensemble. “Oh my gosh, the necklace! It looks so cute on you!” He jumped up, circling her to admire the way it sparkled against the cozy fabric of her dress. “See? I told you it would add flair to my princess's beauty!!” She smiled to her heart out. This made both Taehyung's and Jungkook's heart sweep with warmness and calmness.
“Looks like a cozy spot,” Jin said as he entered next, carrying a plate of fried chicken. “Figured you’d need a snack.” Soon, Namjoon, Suga, Jimin and Yaini followed, the once-intimate terrace now alive with laughter and chatter. But as they entered all their attention was seemed by ONE and ONLY ...SANJANA.
Jin kept the plate on table. He went to her rather could be said a little run and tilted his head, his signature warm smile appearing. “The earrings suit you perfectly. Subtle and elegant, just as I thought.” He nodded approvingly to himself. “Good choice, me.” Jin stepped forward, his smile proud and warm. “You look elegant, yet effortless. Just as I imagined.” Sanjana was just smiling like what no one knows.
Namjoon chuckled softly, his eyes catching on the wrist watch around her wrist. “You’re wearing it,” he said, his tone quieter but filled with pride and a small smile tugging at his lips. “The watch… you really make it look classy. What do you think, huh..?” Sanjana just giggled at such sweet comment.
Suga, who had been quietly observing from his spot near the cushions, smirked, “Headband’s doing its job. Keeps your hair in place and still looks good. Nice touch, huh?Knew you’d appreciate something comfy.” His tone was nonchalant, but there was a flicker of satisfaction in his eyes, as Sanjana touched the headband like a little girl.
There Jimin went to her letting Yaini settle on a cushion, sided everyone, lifted Sanjana by her waist and started spinning in the air. Jimin's move left Jungkook stunned. He was about to intervene, but before he could even take a step, Jimin had already tackled him to the ground.
"OMG, Cupcake, you look stunning! Check it out, I got you these adorable slippers - Yaini and I picked them out just for you. I noticed you're always walking around barefoot, so I thought you could use these. Do you like them?" Jimin asked and complimented her at a same time, leading Yaini to come to spot,"Ohh..Jimi...how can you ask and compliment her at same...she liked it..her eyes can tell yes na Sanjana... "Sanjana nodded with a cutest smile. And Jimin put his hands on his heart giving a dramatic heart attack look. Yaini slapped him playfully at his shoulder,"hey..stop overacting...you do it bad...this expression I was expecting from someone else...i guess" she glanced at Jungkook while saying this. To which Sanjana blushed, Jungkook averted his eyes but cant deny the fact and Taehyung was becoming red blaze ball.
Taehyung’s deep voice cut through the playful chatter. “The bracelet,” he said, stepping closer, his gaze lingering on her wrist. “It’s meaningful. It tells a story… and seeing it on you? It fits better than I imagined.” His tone was confident, but there was a softness in his eyes as he spoke. There was something in his tone—an edge of pride mixed with something softer.
Sanjana felt her cheeks flush as the boys continued to admire her. “Thank you,” she said quietly, her voice filled with genuine appreciation. “Each of you put so much thought into your gifts. I wanted to wear them all because they’re perfect in their own way.”
Her words elicited a chorus of warm chuckles and playful nudges among the boys, though the subtle rivalry between Jungkook and Taehyung go unnoticed. Jungkook stepped closer, his eyes glinting mischievously but maintaing his cold demeanor “But let’s be real—what ties the whole look together is the dress, right?” He gestured toward the oversized, bear-themed outfit. “Comfort and style.”
Taehyung snorted, crossing his arms. “The dress is cute, Jungkook, but the accessories bring it to life. The bracelet, for instance. It’s meaningful and thoughtful—something that resonates.” Jungkook’s smirk faltered, his eyes narrowing slightly. “Meaningful doesn’t mean better. Comfort is what matters.”
Suga raised an eyebrow from the cushions. “Are we really debating this? She’s wearing everything. Clearly, you’re all equally amazing. Can we chill now?” Hobi grinned, clapping his hands. “Exactly! Let’s stop fighting over who’s the best and just appreciate how stunning she looks!”.“Is this a group hangout or a showdown between Jungkook and Taehyung?” Suga asked dryly, sitting cross-legged on a cushion and sipping from his cup.
“Showdown? Who said anything about a showdown?” Jungkook replied, his tone a little too defensive. Taehyung smirked, leaning back against the wall with his arms crossed. “No need to deny it, Jungkook. I’m just here to make sure everyone has a good time.” His gaze flickered to Sanjana as he emphasized the word “everyone.”
Sanjana’s cheeks warmed under his intense stare, her heart skipping a beat. What’s going on with him? she wondered, catching the faintest trace of something deeper in Taehyung’s expression.
Jimin nodded enthusiastically, sliding next to Sanjana and taking her hand dramatically. “Cupcake, you’ve outshone every gift tonight. Honestly, we’re the lucky ones just to see you pull it all off.”
The banter continued, the group falling into their usual rhythm of teasing and joking. At one point, Hobi tried to guess which gifts each of them had given Sanjana. “This bear-themed dress?” he asked, “Jungkook, this screams you.” Jungkook smirked, leaning back. “Guilty. It fits her perfectly, doesn’t it?”
Taehyung cleared his throat, drawing attention. “But the accessories? They’re what bring the look together. Subtle, elegant, and sophisticated. That’s what really stands out.” “Subtle? Taehyung, I think you mean dramatic,” Jin quipped, earning a laugh from the group.
Sanjana shook her head, smiling as she watched them bicker. But her smile faltered slightly as she glanced at Taehyung. His teasing remarks carried an edge tonight, a tension she couldn’t quite place.
As the night wore on, the group eventually settled, their laughter mellowing into soft conversations. Jungkook sat by Sanjana, his presence easy and comforting as he handed her a drink. “You okay?” he asked quietly. Sanjana nodded, though her mind drifted to Taehyung, who sat a little apart, staring out at the night sky. He’s always been intense, she thought, but tonight feels... different.
“Cupcake!” Jimin’s voice broke through her thoughts. “We need your verdict—who gave the best gift?” Sanjana blinked, laughing nervously as all eyes turned to her. “I’m not picking favorites, everyones was precious to me...” she declared, holding up her hands.
“You don’t have to,” Taehyung said smoothly, his eyes locking with hers. “We all know who put in the most effort.” Jungkook straightened, his jaw tightening again. “Effort’s one thing. Understanding what she really likes? That’s another.” Sanjana groaned, pinching the bridge of her nose. “You two need to chill, I guess...please...” she muttered, though her heart fluttered under the intensity of their rivalry.
As the night drew to a close, the group began to disperse, leaving Sanjana with a mix of emotions. Taehyung lingered for a moment longer than the others, his gaze softening as he looked at her. “Good night, Sanjana,” he said, his voice low, almost tender.“Good night, Taehyungieee,” she replied, her voice barely above a whisper.
As he walked away, Sanjana couldn’t shake the feeling that something had shifted. The rivalry, the teasing, the lingering gazes—it all left her heart in a whirlwind of confusion. Does he... feel something for me? she wondered, her hand brushing against the soft fabric of the dress Jungkook had chosen.
The stars above twinkled silently, as if they knew the answers she was searching for.
