Chapter Twenty-Six: The Ups and Downs
After he reeled them in, Ameo took them inside his house. He set them on his couch and grabbed a pair of scissors from a nearby counter.
"What are you going to do to us?" the pyramid questioned.
"What am I going to do?" Ameo repeated. "Why, I am going to set you free and help you on your quest."
"Quest?"
"Mmm-hmm." He cut the ropes, careful to not cut anybody with the sharp ends of the scissors. "The three of you are on a quest." He put the scissors in his pocket and threw the ropes away. "A quest to stop my old boss."
"Your old boss?" He sat in a comfortable position and crossed his legs. "Do you mean...Zorac?"
"Ding, ding, ding! Give the kid a prize!" He picked up two space helmets that were also on the counter and hurried back to the gang. He put the helmets on Kai and Slappy. "There. The helmets should help your friends."
The yak's and puppet's faces returned to their normal colors. They took deep breaths and let them out slowly.
"Are you okay?" Bill asked.
Slappy rubbed his wooden arms. "Y-yeah," he replied. "I feel much better."
"Uh, I was asking Kai, not you. Who cares if you are okay?"
The puppet frowned at him. "My loyal fans! They would be disappointed if I was a goner!"
"Your fans? You mean the loyal fans who adore me more than you!"
"Ha! I dare everybody who reads this fanfiction to storm down to the comment section and say that I am better than you!"
"If that happens, then the writer will just kill me off!"
"Then bravo to her! She should!"
Both Ameo and Kai had enough with the arguing.
"Shut up!" Ameo yelled.
Bill and Slappy stopped fighting and looked at him. Slappy and Kai sat up.
Ameo narrowed his eyebrows. "No one is better. We all have our ups and downs. Each of us are special in our own ways." He smirked. "Your girlfriends would agree."
"H-how did you know about the girls?" Kai said, raising an eyebrow. "And furthermore, they are not our girlfriends just yet."
"But they are crushing on you. And you are crushing on them. And to answer your question, I have been spying on you."
"Spying on us?" the puppet repeated.
He nodded. "I have two windows in this house. One is in the kitchen, and the other is in the bedroom. The kitchen window shows the ship, and the bedroom window shows the earth. I use a powerful telescope that magnifies objects very well. In fact, I will show you. Be right back." He left the room.
While he was fetching the telescope, our favorite villains talked amongst themselves.
"Should we trust him?" Bill whispered.
"I do not know," Kai whispered back. "He could be on our side. Or he could be on the other side."
"He spied on us!" Slappy proclaimed. "I say that we do not put our trust in him."
Hearing footsteps coming close, the group stopped talking and stood up straight.
Ameo came back with his telescope. He set it in front of them.
"This is the telescope that I use," he explained. "I made it myself. I used the parts from the little spaceship that I was launched with to create the best telescope in the galaxy."
"Huh?" Slappy stared at the telescope. "What do you mean that the spaceship that you were launched with?"
Ameo sighed. "It is a long story. You see, I—" He looked at the puppet and cried out. "Ah!"
His eyes widened. "What?!" He stood up. "Is something on me?!"
"S-something is definitely on you." He pointed. "Your face." He hurried out and soon returned with a small mirror. He handed the mirror to Slappy. "Take a look for yourself."
Slappy grasped the mirror and looked. He gasped when he saw it. So did Kai and Bill.
The side of his face was black and purple.
"That...that is not good," Ameo confessed. "You are becoming one of...them."
