Chapter Nineteen

The forest was even bigger than Luna had imagined. The sprawling branches of pine trees provided a canopy, leaving the air damp and cool even though the sun was shining fiercely.

Wrapped in the inky darkness, Luna let her other senses guide her, as she leapt gracefully over hidden rocks and branches, feeling strangely at ease in the unfamiliar territory. Almost...Almost as if she had been here before...

Silver stumbled, hissing as his silver fur got snagged on a branch. Luna quickly edged closer to him, helping him make his way over the rough terrain. The silver tom licked his chest fur but gave Luna a grateful nod of his head. The black tom gave them a sympathetic look as they trudged further into the forest.

"ShadowClan territory is hard to navigate," he said, flicking his tail to the surrounding darkness. "ShdaowClan-born cats grow up learning how to use their other senses..."

He puffed his chest out proudly before Frostpool silenced him with an icy glare. The swift she-cat turned her gaze thoughtfully to Luna, watching her leap gracefully over a fallen log. Her eyes narrowed, but she stayed silent.

Soon, they arrived at a clearing, where there was a small dip in the flat land. There, Luna could see the different pelts of cats, though most of them were kits and nursing mothers.

"Stay away from the nursery," Frostpool warned them, as she guided them to a stump overlooking the camp. A few cats glanced up, their gazes wary as they followed Luna and Silver.

"Are you Thunderclan?" A small dappled kit meowed, quickly bounding forward to them. Her gaze shining as she unsheathed her tiny claws. "I'm Streamkit, and I'm going to fight-"

She was abruptly silenced by a beautiful grey she-cat, who whipped a fluffy tail over the small kit's mouth.

"Hush, Streamkit," she scolded, dragging the little kit back. The grey she-cat glanced at Silver and Luna, before disappearing into a small den covered by thick leaves.

"So this is ShadowClan," Silver meowed softly. He blinked thoughtfully, before turning to Luna.

"What do we do?" he meowed, quietly so that the other cats couldn't hear.

"I think I have an idea," Luna replied, her voice low as she watched the russet tom bound into the stump. "Just follow my lead."

There was a soft murmur of meows inside the den, and Luna pricked her ears as beautiful she-cat with brown eyes and long orange-red fur emerged. The other cats quickly dipped their head, and it was Frostpool who finally spoke.

"We found these rogues on ShadowClan borders," she meowed, addressing the leader. "We were going to chase them away, but we weren't sure, because of the prophecy...So we brought them to you."

Brairstar glanced thoughtfully at Luna and Silver, and Luna felt her fur prickle.

"Very well. Thank you, Frostpool. You can go eat and patrol the borders again at sun-high. I'll decide what to do with these two. And please summon Juniperfrost and Featherwing to my den." Briarstar's expression was unreadable as she dismissed the cats, and Luna's heart pounded in her chest. She felt Silver stiffen beside her.

Frostpool nodded, flicking her tail to the other cats, who quickly bowed their head to the leader before padding away.

Brairstar stared at them for another second, before finally flicking her tail.

"You two have come at last." There was a spark of relief in her dark brown eyes.

"What..?"

Luna's fear was immediately replaced by confusion, and she exchanged a bewildered glance with Silver.

Briarstar gave a small sigh. "The prophecy. You two are the cats the prophecy foretold. You will save our clans."
