Chapter Eleven

-Dick's POV-

I sat on my back, my eyes refusing to close. The blankets wrapped me up so tightly I felt like I was drowning. I shoved the blankets off aggressively. I stood up and walked over to the window. The sun still hadn't came up yet, casting Bludhaven in a sheet of darkness.

I looked back at the bed, Barbara's red hair poking out on the white pillows. I smiled. I had found happiness. I knew that. Yet, why did I still feel so empty?

I clenched my teeth. I hated that Athena still had a hold on me. I hated that despite the gorgeous girl laying in my bed, I still felt sad. I ran my hand down my bare chest. I noted every tiny scar that marked me. But, every scar I felt, I was reminded of Athena.

I hadn't seen her since she first got out of the hospital. I was still trying to put our fight out of my mind. Especially how betrayed she sounded when she talked about Barbara. Her tone gave me shivers. I wanted to be so angry all the times, but it was exhausting. I still wanted to know if she was okay.

An image of her skinny, starved body flashed. Scars -- fresh ones that she hadn't told me about -- littered every inch of her skin. What did you do?

I stood over Barbara, watching her snore softly. Leaning down, I pressed a kiss onto her back. She shivered slightly. I giggled quietly, making her wake up. Her green eyes slowly opened. I got back into bed and sat on top of her.

Barbara was beautiful in every way. My eyes devoured the sight of her naked body. She blinked up at me, trying to analyze what I was thinking. I was just noting everything I loved about her. Her fiery red hair, her perfect lips, her delicate body...

It was such a contrast to Athena. Seeing Athena naked for the first time was like a true honor. She was always so hidden away. Her body was tight and powerful. Barbara had muscles too, but she had more of a softer body. It was the kind you would want to hold all day. Athena's was the kind you would want to...well, definitely more than hold.

Feeling embarrassed by thinking of Athena naked, I blushed. Barbara's hand reached up and caressed my hot cheek. Her pink nails scratched me slightly. I bent down and met her lips with mine. They were so soft. It was the feeling of fragile love. I enjoyed the comfortableness of being with stable, loving Barbara.

I needed to stop thinking about Athena. I had a beautiful girl who loved me. I wouldn't trade Barbara for anything or anyone. Athena was just a fling. Barbara was the type of girl you would bring home to meet your parents; the type of girl you would marry. Athena had made herself clear. I could be happy with Barbara. Athena had broken her connection with me. I was free. I could love who I wanted. I needed to get her out of my mind.

"I love you," I said. It come out as more of a statement than confession, but Barbs didn't notice. She smiled and sat up. I was straddling her as she stared at me.

"I love you too," she replied, kissing me. I shoved my hands into her hair, gripping it in my knuckles as I deepened the kiss and connection between us. She purred in delight, causing me to push her back in excitement.

With a smirk on her face, Barbara grabbed my back, pulling me down over her.

I sat on the edge of the Capital Building of Bludhaven. I scoured every file I could find looking for Red Hood. I knew of the past Red Hood. My parents were still alive when Red Hood was running around Gotham. We were traveling through New York when I first heard about the criminal. I found it so interesting. I heard that Batman the Gotham Vigilante was going after him.

My parents told me there were heroes out there. Before Batman and all the other heroes came onto the scene, the world was so dark. Criminals ran rampage without any true punishment. The Justice system was corrupted, filled with its own criminals. But, then Batman came out.

Red Hood was stealing back in those days. He wasn't Joker, not yet. He hadn't killed anyone. He just stole things. And yet, everyone was still scared of him. My young, curious self was so excited by the idea of a super villain just like in the comics. And a super hero was there to stop him! It was like a movie.

And then Red Hood was gone.

But now he was back? I knew it wasn't Joker. Bruce and I had checked up on him in Arkham about a week ago. He was still nestled in his padded cell, laughing and cackling. Red Hood was back, but this one wasn't stealing. Well, he wasn't stealing from the innocent. Don't go thinking he was some kind Robin Hood. He was killing the bad guys, but also stealing trucks.

So, who was he? Who was this Red Hood guy?

I searched through every file I could get my hands on. And I could get my hands on a lot of files. But, there still wasn't anything on him. Police reports were the only thing I could find on the guy. He was killing drug dealers and smugglers and stealing their cargo. As far as I knew, he was staying inside Gotham.

That was until I heard an explosion.

I quickly closed my computer and grappled off the building. I flew down towards the explosion. I saw several thugs, all shooting at one familiar figure. Red Hood was jumping around, killing the guys one by one, two by two, three by three. I landed just in time to kick one of the thugs, knocking him out. Red Hood noticed me and let the one guy live before grappling away himself.

His grapple was slightly different from mine. Instead of a gun, it shot out of his belt around his waist. The line was also thicker. The actual grapple was bigger than the one I used. But, it was still effective. He got away from the scene.

I followed after. Unlucky for him, my grapple was faster. I caught up to him and grabbed onto his ankle. He kicked his leg, but I kept my grip.

He took a turn and landed on a building, hard. I was thrown off, rolling away from him. He stood up and turned towards me. I quickly got up. I ran towards him, throwing a punch. He blocked and returned an attack, but I dodged. The fight went back and forth. He was so much more trained than I thought he was. Every time I tried to get a hit on him, it was like he knew what I was going to do. The guy knew how I fought and blocked accordingly. But, fighting him was familiar too. I couldn't place it.

It was like when I first fought Athena. She was so trained too. Fighting her was familiar too. But, this couldn't be Athena. Could it? Telling by Red Hood's build, I was sure it was a guy. But, she could be wearing padding.

I ducked underneath a punch and kicked Red Hood's back, landing them flat on their helmet. "Athena," I said, just loud enough for Red Hood to hear.

"What?" Red Hood said. I was wrong. The voice was so clearly a man. Well, that narrows it down. I could narrow Red Hood's identity down by half.

Then, I had an idea. I turned on the recording system in my mask and computer. I had to keep him talking.

"Oh, you're a boy then," I laughed.

"I thought that Nightwing, the Bludhaven guardian would be smart enough to figure that out," He sassed, tripping me. Red Hood tried to slash me with his knife, but I rolled and dodged him.

"If you're so anti-criminal, why do you dress up like the Joker?" I asked, striking a nerve with the guy. He paused, but then shrugged it off.

"If you're so pro-law, why are you dressed up like a vigilante?" He replied. I smirked and charged again, but he moved out of the way. I heard a buzzing noise come from his helmet. He took a step back. "See you around, Robin!" He shouted, grappling away. I chased him, but he seemed to disappear.

I quickly went to my apartment. I tugged off the top of my uniform. I sat down on my drab couch and turned on my actual laptop. I hooked up my wrist computer to my laptop and transferred the video.

I ran voice recognition with everyone in Gotham first. There was no connection. "Okay, fine," I said outloud. I ran the voice through Bludhaven. Nothing. Getting frustrated, I checked the world's files. It took a few minutes, but it eventually was finished.

"Nothing!?" I shouted. I checked over and over, but there was nothing. The Red Hood wasn't in the files. How? At least Athena had false identities. Red Hood didn't have a single thing.

I leaned back and crossed my arms. Red Hood was so mysterious and it bothered me. I loved to solve puzzles, and I hated not solving puzzles. Red Hood was a puzzle. But I had none of the pieces!

I spent the entire night still trying to solve the mystery. But, nothing ever came up. I couldn't figure it out. Finally, I came to a conclusion. I couldn't solve the puzzle myself. I zipped my suit back up and climbed on my bike. I rode through Bludhaven and left Barbara a message, explaining I'd be in Gotham for the next few days.

~~~~~~~~~~I'm watching Bo Burnham while writing this and seriously, I love him so much. Writing Dick's POV while watching a comedy show helps me better capture Dick's laughable personality and care-free attitude. I kinda lose that aspect of Dick, but I hope you guys all get a good read of the character's aspects. Dick=Funny. Athena=Serious. Bruce=Responsible. Tim=Innocent, yet shy. Yeah, hope you guys understand lol.~~~~~~~~
