Chapter 2: Revealing the Past
Anna went throughout her morning mostly in a daze. She really couldn't concentrate on her studies and was reprimanded by her history teacher for not paying attention. Usually this was the one class she excelled in, but today she couldn't concentrate on anything. All she could think of was the nightmare she had the night before. She thought that now was the time to share those thoughts with someone. If she could just get those feelings out then perhaps they would not have such a tight hold on her. She knew exactly the person she could tell. She just hoped he wouldn't be too angry with her for keeping the secret from him for so long.
The bell rang signifying the end of her last class before lunch. She gathered her books and put them in her bag and grabbed her purse and headed for the lunch room. She was starving but for some reason she didn't really feel like eating, but she would force some nourishment in herself if nothing else but to keep her energy levels up.
She got there early and saw that there wasn't much of a line. She knew better then to be a late comer seeing that all the good stuff would be gone before too long. As she stood in line to get her lunch, she saw Olaf approaching with a blonde girl on his arm. Her name was Molly and she was a cheerleader. Of all the girls on the squad she was the nicest and one that had become a sort of hero for Anna.
Several months ago she had gone out with Hans, Anna's ex-boyfriend. At first she thought Molly was doing it just to spite her, but she later found out that Hans was using the poor girl just to make her jealous, and when Molly found out about it, she confronted him in front of all his friends. As a result Hans slapped her cross the face so hard that she fell to the ground.
Even after that Molly didn't back down, but there was no way she could out-muscle Hans. He was too physically strong, but Molly had a hero that night, an unlikely one. When Molly told her it was Olaf she didn't believe it at first, but after seeing the beating he took to defend her friend it made her admire him even more.
Anna was ecstatic to see two of her best friends so happy. Molly deserved a nice guy and Olaf was one of the best. "Hey, Anna, where's Kristoff?" Olaf asked.
"I'm not sure?" Anna said. "He should be here any minute." Just then the young man in question entered the room. He made his way to the empty seat next to Anna that she always saved for him.
"You're late," she said as she sat down.
"It's only by a few minutes," he said half-jokingly. "Did you miss me that much?"
"I always miss you when you're not around, silly," Anna said but she looked like she had something heavy on her mind.
"Hey, beautiful, what's wrong?" Kristoff asked and even though she had not said anything at that point Kristoff always seemed to know when something was bothering her.
"Well, it's just something I need to talk to you about," she said and looked across the table to see Olaf and Molly acting excessively cute. "Alone."
"Oh, I get it," he said and got up out of his seat. "Why don't we go somewhere more private."
"Sure, Romeo," she said teasingly. He picked up her tray and as she carried hers and led her outside by the most secluded table on the far end by a group of trees. Anna always thought this spot was romantic, but right now she couldn't think of romance, not with that dream still plaguing her mind.
"So, what's troubling my girl?" he asked. She forced a smile but she knew it was time to tell him.
"It's the nightmares again," she said and pulled out an old photo album she always carried in her purse. She never looked at the pictures when others were around but always kept them close. "The nightmares are about her."
She turned to picture that was at the end of the little of the photo book to show him. It was of a girl with blue eyes and light blond hair. She was wearing a sparkling blue dress and carried a scepter. She remembered that this was taken when Elsa had a part in a school play in the role of the ice princess.
"Who is this?" Kristoff asked studying the picture.
"She was my sister Elsa. She was kidnapped when I was six," Anna said and Kristoff looked stunned. "I'm sorry I never told you about her before."
"What happened to her?" he asked. "Is she...?"
"I don't know where she is, but I know one thing. She's alive... somewhere."
"How do you know?" he asked.
"I don't know, but I just do. She was... is my sister, and if she were dead I would feel it. Sometimes I hear her calling for me in my dreams. Mom and Dad never talk about her anymore. They just pretend like she never existed, but I can't do that. I know one day I'm going to find her."
"Anna, if that is what you want to do I'll help," he said and took her hand.
She looked like any second she was going to cry. Anna fell into his arms as the tears escaped her eyes. "You're the best boyfriend ever."
"You're the best," he said as he stroked her. She looked into his eyes as he came closer to her, and when their lips touched she had more hope than ever that she would complete her goal. She would find her sister and then her life would be perfect.
After talking to Kristoff, Anna felt much better about things. Her need to find out what happened to her sister was rejuvenated and now she wasn't alone in the task because he had promised to help her.
