Chapter 6 Memories

(First off, I want to say thank you to everyone once again. This book has reached 62 in friend fiction. That is amazing. I can't believe it. I have no idea if anyone has been reading this story again since updating it more, but I thank anyone regardless. I never thought it would get this far. When I started writing, I've only done for my own enjoyment. Other than that, I've normally haven't cared if people don't like my stories or not. It's you opinion. You don't have to like everything I write. I'm not upset if anyone doesn't like my writing. I write because I love it, and if someone doesn't like it, then I don't care. I'll keep doing it. Anyway, I know. I ramble too much. I'll leave now and continue writing. See you later, and have a great day!)

Katie and Karen had gotten out of the vehicle. Though for Katie's own sake, they carried her out using the bed that they had placed her on since the beginning of the trip. She knew for a fact that she would become dizzy if she tried standing and walking. Even sitting up messed up her brain, and she wasn't willing to take a chance of passing out again. She waited patiently until they finally drove her into the hospital itself. The wheels that allowed this bed to move clicked and clonked onto the metal that held the doors together.

Katie scanned the area out of curiosity. She didn't have too much to do, so she decided to take advantage of it all. Her eyes seemed to sparkle like an innocent child finding something new and exciting. She laid her head onto the pillow that has been placed onto this bed. It wasn't as comfy as she would like, but she was grateful that it was at least something. She stared into the wall, lost in her own thoughts.

Katie was walking alongside some of her friends that she had known since Elementary school. They were currently in their seventh year of high school, but were forced to stay at the middle school to continue their education. School had just finished for the day, and they were expected to return the next day. She grinned and laughed heartily as one of her friends named Maggie explained about something funny that had happened to her during when the school hours were in session.

"I can't believe that I even said that during class. I was either very tired, or not thinking. That was the perfect comeback to what that girl had to say though," she giggled. "At least, I think so."

Katie breathed out her words from her joyous laughter, "That's just priceless and amazing all at the exact same time. I love it. I'm not surprised that you said what you said though. It's something that I can see you do for some reason, even though you don't have comebacks that go against someone else all that often. I find it amusing and amazing that there was some sort of switch in you that turned on and got into the mood, as if you already knew what to do and what to say in that exact moment. I wish that I could do that, if I had to be honest with myself here."

Nick grinned at Maggie, giving her a soft nudge on her arm with his own playfully, "Dude, I'm honestly impressed. Only someone like you could pull of something like that. Yeah, Thomas and I probably could do something like that, but in the end, we might not. Well, Thomas might speak up more than I would no matter the cost. Though, I personally believe that you are the best when it comes to stuff like this."

Maggie's cheeks flustered a rose color that was deep enough for the whole group could see, "O-Oh u-um... Th-Thanks... Nick. You don't have to be that sweet," Maggies long, jet black hair bounced as she moved around. She currently had it in a ponytail, to avoid having any sort of issues with hair in her mouth or eyes. Her Italion accent showed itself more as she was struggling to spit out any sort of words out of her lips.

Nick chuckled noticing how flustered she was, thinking how funny she was when it came to her becoming embarrassed easily. For him, it gave him enjoyment to know that he could just tease her as much as he wanted without having to harm her emotional side, especially since she always took teasing better than some people would. He had seen some people become very offended, and even stop being friends, or stop dating just because someone was teasing them in a harmless matter. He didn't quite understand that, and he doubted that he ever would.

Katie grinned as she looked at the group, and noticed that her friend Thomas didn't say anything. She wondered if everything was alright, or if he just preferred to listen to all of them ramble about the day. She knew that he did that at times, and she enjoyed it at times since sometimes she was the same way. She normally would stay silent if she went into her own little wonderland, and had a difficult time coming out of, no matter how hard others tried pulling her out back into the harsh reality that she currently lived in. Though the ones who gave her hope were her best friends, and some of her only friends that she had.

"Hey, do you guys want to hang out today? I have nothing else to do, and thankfully no homework. Unless if you guys are busy. We don't have to do it today. I understand if you are," she expected them to say no. She had been rejected many requests in the past, even if they were simple. Instead, she was offered requests that weren't in her interest, and what they had "expected" her to accept each time. She felt as if the majority of the time anything she said was ignored, like she didn't say anything at all, or as if she didn't exist in the first place.

Her friends grinned faster than she had expected, and they seemed as if they too, wanted to get rid of their lives to take a break with each other. Their replies were as quick as their reactions as they spoke in unison, "Of course!"

Katie grinned, feeling like she could bounce around the school, not caring if she received strange glances from everyone. She slipped out a "yay" out of pure accomplishment from her achievement of getting her friends to join her to hang out, "Cool! Uh... Where should we hang out?"

"How about my house?" Maggie offered as she looked at the group for approval.

The group nodded in agreement, but their words were separated and chosen, as if forcing their own brains to stay out of sink.

"Sure! That sounds like a plan!" Thomas finally replied, pumped up about today.

"I'm cool with that, dude," Nick was calm, but didn't hold back of not having to go home and do nothing all day, since he had finished all of his classwork for the week.

"That sounds better than staying at my house. My parents would freak out if they found out you were at my house. Besides, she wanted to get out of a toxic territory that she didn't believe that she belonged in, and never will belong in. She giggled, "I'm glad we figured that out pretty quick. In all of the decision making we've ever done, these types are usually the fastest out of all of them."

Maggie rubbed the back of her neck while giggling awkwardly, "Yeah... That tends to happen... Sorry..."

"I think we all take the blame for that one," Thomas admitted, laughing. "Especially since all of us don't really care what we do. We just want to do something fun together, and that's usually how far we plan ahead."

"We really need to work on that," Nick chuckled "or else we will be in deep trouble in the near future. Well... At least according to some people I know," he chuckled again."

"You parents?" Maggie giggled.

"Yes, and some of my friends too. Eh," he shrugged, "we aren't perfect. So I'm not too worried about it currently. I'll worry about it when I absolutely have to."

"Katie, are you awake?" Karen's voice dinged into Katie's brain, waking her up from trance.

"H-Huh...? Yeah... I'm fine. Sorry. Got distracted. What were you saying?"

Karen giggled softly, "It's alright. There's no need to be sorry about anything. It happens to everyone. I was just telling you that we are currently in your room. Would you like me to call your parents so they can come visit you?"

Katie thought about it for a moment. Do I want to risk them seeing me in this condition? I already know what they will do. They will act all sweet and friendly to everyone around them. Then they will act like they treat me well around everyone else, then when the doors close, and no one is watching, they will show their true identities, and will only focus on what they do best: Placing their own misery upon me by bringing their selfish desires into my heart, soul, and mind.

She shook her head, "No. No thank you. They're really busy, and don't have any time to come here right now."

"Want me to call them later?"

"No. It's better if they don't know."

She nodded, "Alright. I understand. I'll let you relax, and call when you want anything. Alright?"

Katie nodded out of relief, "Alright. Thanks again. I guess I'll see you later, hopefully?"

She nodded, "Yes, I hope we cross paths once more. Make yourself at home as much as you possibly can. We'll have the doctor come to visit you when he's done with one of his current patients that he's working on. The latest he will probably arrive in about one or two hours, of course if something happens that prevents something from coming during this time. Other than that, he should arrive whenever he can."

Katie nodded and grinned, "Alright, cool. Thanks!"

"You're welcome, Katie."

"Have a great day!"

"I hope you have a wonderful day too!"

Nurse Karen was surprised to see Dr. Peterson back from helping his patient early. She gave him a warm smile, "Welcome back, Doctor. I see that the procedure went well?

He nodded, "Yes, thank goodness that it did too. She was wonderful the whole time, even until she fell asleep. The medicine hasn't worn off yet, so I left her to rest until she's needing anything when she wakes up," he turned to Karen with a smile. "How is our new patient doing? Do you have the information for her?"

She nodded as she handed him the clipboard that she had Katie fill out before she had passed out to the hospital. She sighed softly as she glanced at his eyes searching the papers, "Dr. Peterson, we might have a problem."

Dr. Peterson seemed to know what exactly what she was talking about, as if this conversation was mentioned before. His eyes were unchanging in their position, "It is her, isn't it?

Karen nodded, "It is. She's afraid of her parents. It's what I had feared what would happen. They did what they said they would do. They made her not want to trust her for anything."

"Did she mention what they did to her?"

"Knowing her, I expected that she might not, which she didn't. The best we can do now is just be patient until she wants to be open about everything, if she decides to visit."

The doctor nodded, "Yes. I agree. I assume with this information that you had described, that she does not want her parents with her at all."

The nurse shook her head, "Sadly, no. She told me that they were currently working. I then gave the option to have her parents come visit and get her later, but she replied saying that they wouldn't regardless of how long they worked. I already could tell that they weren't treating her like how she should be treated."

"Did you tell her that I would be visiting her?"

"Yes, I did, sir."

He placed a gentle hand on her shoulder in satisfaction, "I can always count on you, Karen. I'm sincerely grateful for that. I'm glad that you are apart of our community. Your service has always been appreciated. Thank you."

Karen grinned at her boss, "Thank you for your kind words, Rick. I appreciate it very much. Your kindness has been appreciated so much since I was hired for this job, and it's been wonderful; truly wonderful. Good luck with, Katie. She can be stubborn at times."

He chuckled, "Yes, you've mentioned that before. Thank you. I'll do my best."
