Chapter 3 The Search

John was tired of Collin's messing around, and he wanted to go find Katie to see if she was alright and safe. If she wasn't there, he knew that she would be safe. He didn't even know if he had given her enough time to escape the grasp of Collin's evil doings. He wasn't willing to start any sort of fights right now, especially since this was his first day of school at this new school.

He did have to admit to himself though, he missed his old school. He was only at this new school for one reason, and reason alone: to find out what this school is actually about. He had volunteered to check out this school. Many people in the community were hesitant, and had heard rumors and myths that this school was "dangerous", "cursed", and/or "deceiving". He honestly didn't have too much of an opinion since he didn't know this school too well. Though so far, they weren't giving him a good reputation.

"Don't you have anything else better to do, than bugging people to death?"

Collin grunted out of satisfaction, "Does it look like I have anything better to do? Do you have anything better to do than protecting "helpless little girls that can't help themselves?"

John sighed, "Look, I'm done arguing with pointless topics. Just leave Katie alone, alright? That's all I ask, and I bet she wants that too. Though, I'm highly betting that she's too afraid to tell you. I don't blame her," he smirked slightly. "I wouldn't want to tell how I feel to someone as disgusting as you," he shrugged casually. "I'm just saying," he bounced slightly as he did a full 180 degree angle before walking away in his own little victory. He even felt like he could create a victory dance, but had to use all of his strength to not do so.

Collin blinked with a wide eyed mouth of shock. Nothing seemed to make sense to him anymore as he mentally reached out for anything that could bring down John, but he ended up with nothing but empty storage in the socket of the motherboard. Darn... He's better than I thought. I haven't had this kind of competition in so long... I like it....

"Katie! Are you alright?" John ran out of the main door of THE HIGH SCHOOL in search for his new friend Katie. He then realized that he didn't even know what her car looked like(if she drove to school, which he assumed that she did). He searched far and wide for her face; remembering her features in detail. He didn't even care about the weird looks that he got from yelling, all he cared about that she got out of school just in time. He wasn't planning on stopping until he couldn't find her at all; regardless of barely knowing her.

When he didn't find her anywhere, he felt satisfied and relieved as he walked over to his car, "Today has been very... interesting... Though I don't think I want to go through that again. Hopefully this isn't what the school is like all the time," he knew that he had to do more research and experiments as he spent more time at the school each day.

The ringing was crystal clear. Mixture of emotions swirled as everything seemed to spin rapidly. Katie slightly shook her head as she was in the car driving. She was doing her best to ignore everything around her that was inside with her and her car. All she wanted was to just clear her brian from anything that would distract her from driving. She didn't care if the call was important. To her, that wasn't important to her right now. All that was important to her was just taking some time to herself from the world, and she knew exactly where to go.

Katie parked into one of the parking lots of one of her favorite places in the world, it was the park that was in a farther city than where she lived in. A park that no one knew she ever went to, and she was thankful for that. A sigh of relief escaped her lips relieved as her sight darkened slightly, with a hint of light. Her head swirled, making her anxious if something was wrong with her. Her breathing quickened, and the air around her was sucked away from her body.

Her stomach was turning, as well as everything that was recorded by her vision. Though everything she stared into her circuits were frying the rest of her senses. As the events slowly passed by, she came to realize that she wasn't surprised by this random occurrence. Nothing really surprised her at this point.

Raindrops stormed her eyes quicker than thunder when it called back to lighting. She choked on her own struggle of surviving for her life. A life that she simply didn't live to her fullest. Why am I holding on when I can't truly live how I want to live? What's keeping me from leaving for good? Just then, she felt her life flash before her eyes.

"Dude! That chick passed out!" a young teenager that was around seventeen to eighteen moved his jet black hair out of his eyes so he could see what was in front of him.

"Oh my goodness! Is she okay?" a younger girl around fourteen to sixteen slapped her mouth, hiding it completely. Her light brown hair was about chin length from her scalp. Parts of her bangs were tied into braids that was connected to each other, relaxing on the back of her head. Her light brown eyes were fierce and determined to help out however she could with what her friend had noticed.

"We should go see," the second man with dirty blonde hair showed no expression that showed any situation. "I'm not even sure what's happening. I just heard a noise, that's all," he turned toward his friend, using his eyes as hands. "Nick, lead the way. We might as well see what's going on."

He nodded with a small grin, "Sounds good to me, dude! Let's go see what's up!" he started walking towards where he saw the incident. He sighed slightly, "I will admit something to you all..."

"What's that?" the female asked with a raised brow, following right behind him with the other guy.

"I didn't see exactly what happened. All I saw was this young woman who was just sitting in her car, minding her own business."

The leader sighed, "Okay, keep on going. We don't have much time on our side right now."

His friend gave him a death glare, "Will you be patient for a second? I was getting to that, alright?"

He turned around in a defensive position, "Alright, I'll stop. Continue on what you were saying."

He didn't stop eyeing his friend as they kept on moving once more, "So, as I was saying, the next thing I knew it, I noticed something off about what was happening. She seemed to be freaking out, and I wasn't sure if she was having a panic attack, or she thought that there was some scary monster chasing her down to try to eat her up."

The shorter girl attacked her story telling friend, "Hey! Don't be rude! You don't even know her!"

"I didn't mean it to be rude. I'm just trying to explain the situation the best way I know how, alright? If I was being rude, I would either be laughing right now, or making fun of her in anyway possible. Trying to describe something so you two can better understand what I'm trying to say isn't making fun of someone. No offense. I promise I'm not trying to be rude to you by any means, Kara. I hope you know that."

Kara sighed heavily, shutting her eyes lightly, "Alright, I'm sorry. I just haven't had the best day today. I didn't mean to burst out on you like that Nick, can you forgive me?" she glanced at him with innocent eyes.

Nick grinned and ruffled her head slightly, "Of course I'll forgive you dude! Why wouldn't I forgive my friend's wonderful sister!"

Kara laughed softly, "Thanks, man! Glad we are on the same side."

He nodded, "Agreed. Alright, let's go rescue her."

Kara nodded and laughed, "This will be fun. It will kind of be like a rescue mission!"

"But it's not a game, Kara. You're old enough to understand that by now I would think."

"Come on, Jonah! Stop being a party pooper!" Kara whined. "I know it's not a game, but this is what people do sometimes; such as policemen and firemen. They basically have their own rescue missions. Trust me, I'm not stupid when it comes to these things. I might be a sports and music addict, but that doesn't mean I don't know my stuff," sass floated in the air as she spoke.

*****************************************************************************

"John, you gotta come quick. The police are here and they somehow figured out that this girl is going to the same school as you. Do you think you know her at all?"

"Uh... Kara, I'm not sure. There's a lot of girls at the school. I met one today, but other than that, I don't know a soul. Where are you? I can see if I know her or not. Besides, I'm driving, technically I'm not supposed to be doing this while I drive. I'll call you later, sis. Bye!" he hung up immediately.

Kara sighed, "Hopefully he'll come here soon. Thankfully everyone except Jonah is at work currently. I'm honestly surprised that I even have a sports job at my age. I must be lucky."

"You're talking to yourself again."

"Oh! Sorry about that. I do this a lot when I'm stressed or worried."

Nick chuckled softly, "Hey, it's no big deal. Really."

Before Kara could continue, another girl around Nick's age arrived. She winked playfully at Nick, "Hey, darling. How's it going?"

"Going good as always, love. Especially when you're here with me," he gave her a soft kiss.

Kara rolled her eyes while sticking her tongue out, "Ew. Gross."

Nick's girlfriend looked at the girl passed out on the ground, "Who is she?" her voice was high pitched, and her hair was straight, long, and blonde. She wore a pink dress with pink heals. Her blue eyes looked disgusted, but attempted to look distressed.

Nick acted like her reaction was normal, "Oh, apparently this girl passed out for some reason. The police are trying to find out what's wrong," he even sounded surprisingly normal for his liking.

"Oh," not able to think of what else to say. It vibrated to a "this isn't interesting" sort of vibe. She was bored. The whole world that turned their attention towards her would know it by now if she was the main attraction. She turned her full attention to her blush nails that were shining brightly in the sunlight.

She sighed, rolling her eyes, "Can we like, go now? I've been having to, like, trying to find you guys because I was so worried that one of you guys did something awful that would, like, make you look ugly or ruin whatever was going to be ruined. Like, oh my gosh! You all had me worried there for a second! I'm just so thankful you guys are okay! You, like, have no idea how worried I was. I even ran over here in my new pair of heels, and I, like, don't normally do that. I always need to be in my running shoes if I ever want to run like how I did," she breathed out a dramatic sigh of relief.

Ugh, I'm so done with her already! Why won't Nick just break up with her already? Can't he see through that little "petty, perfect princess" of a disguise? She acts and even looks like a little brat, that seems to always get what she wants; or, as she calls it, what she "deserves". She doesn't deserve someone as wonderful as Nick. She believes that everyone; including him, is trash, and she doesn't give a doo-hicky about anyone else but herself! Goodness gracious to the heavens above, I swear, the only reason I'm keeping my cool is to not embarrass myself for one thing, and to not be a pesty type of friend to him. I don't want this to get in the way of our friendship.

"John! What's up, buddy?" Nick approached another one of his best friends with a bro hug.

Kara glared with a hint of playfulness to it, "Took you long enough... brother. I was afraid you wouldn't come."

He chuckled, "Someone's sassy today. Something up buttercup?"

She straightened her back more, "You know how I hate that name. This isn't the time for that, John."

John chuckled softly, allowing the wind to catch his every sound, "I know. I'm sorry. You know I like to be a tease every now and then to you, sis. That's what siblings do after all."

She didn't back down from her post, "Maybe, but that doesn't mean that I'll get you for it afterwards," a sly smile slowly was created.

John returned her devilish smile, "Oh, you're on. After we settle this mess first, of course."

(If you made it this far, there's a part in this chapter that you will read that involves Collin becoming speechless. What the response I put was okay, but I feel as if it could be improved. Again, I'm open to any suggestions if you guys have any. I know I sound like a broken record at this point, but I mean it when I say this. I want my book to improve to the best of its ability so I can one day publish this. Once again, thanks in advance!)
