Chapter 21 Trouble

As Katie drove into her driveway, she did her best to be as quiet as possible, and had shut out her lights not too long before she arrived. I know that I'm not supposed to do that; mostly because it's illegal, but if I don't want my parents to know that I'm just barely arriving, I'll take that chance. She shut off her car, and did her best to find a place where she could sneak into her house the best. She had no idea if any of her options would actually work, but she knew that she had to try no matter what option she chose.

She searched her options. The first one was that she could just go straight into the house, and be as quiet as she possibly could, hoping that she wouldn't be noticed as she tiptoed into her bedroom. The next option was going into a few windows. One led to the living room, and the other two led to her room, and the computer room that was right next to her room. If I get in from my bedroom window, I have less of a risk of being caught since I'm exactly in my room. Though, all options have the risk of being caught, whether if it will lessen or not.

She sighed quietly to herself. Great... This is just great... What the crap am I going to do now? Gosh dang it! She thought about her options, and was trying to think what would be the best out of all of them. She never considered herself the best decision maker, so it was difficult at times for her to actually make a full on decision. She hated that she had so many problems with it, but she couldn't help being the way she was.

I need to think quickly if I want to not be caught. If I'm caught, then I'm in big trouble. Whether it be by my parents or the neighbors. Ugh, you know what? I'm just going to go through my window. I've done this before, so this should be a piece of cake... If I don't get caught that is...

She climbed onto her window, using parts of the bricks and anything that had an open ledge next to her window. She did this so often that it was more of something that was second nature than any sort of habit that she had ever started. She would use anything from ledges to ladders, and it even got to a point where she used anything that she had with her. She believed that "anything could work if you put your mind to the perfect solution for yourself." When she first thought and said this belief, she has followed it ever since. It was something that she could hold on to, and she liked the fact that there was finally something that she could hold on to; to keep her going when times became tough.

She carefully and slowly opened her bedroom window as quietly as she could manage. She was surprised that she could fit. It was a good sized window, and she wasn't too overweight to fit right though, she was just always amazed how easy it was to be able to sneak into someone's house. The only time that would be impossible if someone had very tiny windows, and/or had no windows at all. She shut her window, and jumped into her bed, falling fast asleep.

"You'll never get away with this, Collin. I swear on my life that you won't."

"On your life? I own your life. I don't think that you've realized that yet. You should so it wouldn't be a big surprise to you later when the right time comes," he chuckled softly. "How are you so sure about that?" Collin smiled confidently.

Katie placed into his soul, "No evil lasts forever."

He chuckled once more, "No good lasts forever either," he felt accomplished that he used her own words against her.

She was speechless, and didn't have anything good to punch him with. She glanced away for a moment, then back at him.

"Nothing to say to that? No comebacks? No nothing?"

Katie refused to answer anything.

He laughed, "Pathetic. Truly pathetic. I was expecting more of a fight from you, Katie. Have you finally seen your place in the world? Do you finally see what I see?"

She shook her head, "No. Never."

He placed a hand on her jaw, "Oh, but I think you do, Katie. You wouldn't be so submissive if you didn't believe and see what must be seen by everyone."

"No... No one needs to do or believe what you have tried making me believe for so many years. No one deserves this pain. No one," she glared annoyedly at him.

"Don't be so certain, Katie. Everyone deserves what is coming to them, regardless of who they are, and where they come from. You deserve what comes to you as well," he shrugged casually. "That's just how life works. Once you accept that, then all of your problems will fade away. Then, your worries and fears will disappear for good. You're too stubborn to realize that. You must let go to survive. Let go! Join me, and we can change the world like no one has before."

"Never..." Katie had been sitting down, and was slowly standing up more confidently than normal. "I'll never join you, whether your last sentence reminds me of Star Wars or not. I'll never join you. You can never serenade me to change who I am, whether how much you will actually break me. You might break my sanity, my soul, and my mind, but you will never break and take away who I am. Whether my strength is with me or not. I'm not planning on failing any time soon."

This surprised Collin, and only made him burst out in anger, "How dare you defy me! You will see where you truly belong, and who you belong to... You belong to me!"

Katie gasped as she bolted to where she was sitting. She felt like she had just held her breath underwater for a long period of time. She took deep breaths to calm herself back down. She hoped that she wouldn't pass out from the lack of oxygen that she was feeling. She forgot where was, and started freaking even more than normal. Katie... Just calm down and breathe... You're going to be okay... Don't worry about anything... Everything will be alright...

She sighed as she realized that she was in her room, in her own house... But this place doesn't feel like home... She didn't want to get up. Instead, she just wanted to go back to sleep. Though she already knew that she wouldn't be able to go back to sleep anytime soon. She heard a knock on the door, and fear tickled her spine.

"Katie, are you in here? Can I come in? It's your mother!"

Katie froze like a popsicle, not replying to her mother's call.

"Katie, are you in here? Don't make me knock down your door!"

"I-I'm here. S-Sorry... J-Just waking u-up, mom..." She already knew what was in store for her. "C-Come in..."

The door opened slowly, "Where were you last night? Your father and I didn't see you at all. You disobeyed our orders of coming before midnight."

Katie did her best to not show fear in front of her own mother, "M-Mom, I-I'm sorry! I didn't realize what time it was! I got distracted!"
"Doing what?!" She snapped. "What was so important that you were doing to come home later than when you were supposed to?"

"I was... I went to a party and basically hung out with some people. We're not friends. I know you don't want me to have friends since friends are too overratted and stupid. I was bored, and didn't check the time as I went to go do whatever. Then I lost track of time."

Her mother walked closer to Katie, "You do what happens since you disobeyed our rules."

Katie looked down ashamed, "Yes... I know, mom... I'm sorry... It won't happen again. I promise."

"Good. Your father should be home soon."

"What time is it?"

"It's 11:30 am. You slept longer than normal. I'm impressed."

"I was exhausted. How can you blame me?"

"I don't."

Katie was surprised by her response, but knew she had more to say.

"Though I do blame you for not listening to us. Regardless of you telling the truth, you're still going to receive your punishment."

Katie nodded as she closed her eyes, "Yes, mother... I understand, mother... I'll never do that again. I'll be a better daughter and not fail you again."

Her mother placed a hand on Katie's shoulder, "Good. That's good to hear. When your father hears about this, you better be prepared that he will be upset. More or so than I am. Hopefully you'll understand that as well."

"I do. I promise I do."

"Stop telling me words, and prove it to me. Is is so much for a mother to ask to have their child show their loyalty to them?"

Katie sighed, "It's not much for a parent to ask. It shouldn't ever be something difficult to receive such a request. Not even someone as..." Gosh I hate this so much... But I don't have any other choice if I don't want a worse punishment. "...wonderful as you, mom."

She patted her hair and smiled selfishly, "Why thank you, dear. That's very sweet of you to say to me. You have such a way with words, Katie. If only we admired you for something like that. If I had to be honest, that's the only thing you're good at, but it still isn't good enough to succeed in a life such as this."

Katie nodded reluctantly, "Yes, I know, mom. You always tell me that I'm not good enough, or that I'm only good at one thing and it's the only thing I'm good at. Then you say how it's just not good enough," she looked up at her with pleading eyes, even if she already knew the answer. She wanted a surety of her question, "When will I ever be good enough for you?"

Her mother grinned devilishly, "Never," she then aimed her hand as if she was going to wipe her, and smacked her out of existence.

Katie fell to her feet, feeling the sting of the slap on her cheek.

"You're weak, and only becoming weaker by each passing moment. Good. Very good. Then there will be a day where you will obey our every command, and you will break so you will never disobey us again. Who knows, you might even like your punishments that you receive. You might even be as messed up as we are right now."

"I'll never enjoy anything you give me. Everything you both have ever given me has almost resolved in almost killing me!" Katie snapped back. "I almost died because of both of your foolish acts! I could have died, and you didn't care! You didn't even care that you would die with me, yet none of us died then."

That present dad gave me, was supposed to kill us both, and probably you too, but we survived. You know why? Someone placed me into a hospital, but you wouldn't give a darn if I was dying! You would have left me to rot! You are both just selfish! You don't care about anyone but yourselves! I hate you both!" Katie was in tears as she yelled. She yelled what she had been holding in for years. I'm so tired of this crap! I'm so tired of everything!

"I thought you changed, Katie. I thought you were wanting to be a good girl. Don't you want to be a good girl for us? To be treated like an equal for once in your life?"

You never treat me like a human anyway... "Yes, but-"

"Don't you want to prove yourself that you are actually worth something, and nothing more than the poop in the toilet? Maybe even something that is worth nothing to someone? Do you want to be someone that is worth more than you are currently worth right now?"

Katie nodded, "Yes, I do. But-"

"Then stop complaining!" She grinned as she heard the door open. "Oh, and there he is now."
