Chapter 14 Bonding
Katie's lips moved as if she was attempting to speak. She seemed very nervous and cautious about whatever she was thinking about. Silence fell over the trio, and no one knew what else to say. Moments later, Katie finally spoke up, "I was wondering, can I hang out with you guys today? If it's alright of course. I know that we barely met today, but I'm having a wonderful time hanging out with you here in the hospital. I just hope that I get to be released early today. I'm anxious to leave this place."
"Of course!" The two siblings replied in unison, which made the three of them laugh. They laughed for who knows how long before finally catching their breath. They were all curious if anyone had heard their outbursts. Though, they didn't care. If they were having fun in a harmless way, then it didn't matter to them.
"We are a weird group," admitted Kara.
"Now that is something that I can agree with," John agreed fully on his sisters' comment. "But it's a good kind of weird. Normal is boring, but weird is interesting; at least the good kind of weird is better."
"That's true," Kara chuckled.
Katie was enjoying the company of both of them. It was strange to admit it but, she felt like she was becoming friends with the two. She still wasn't used to all of this; even if this feeling has been lasting more than an hour by now, but she enjoyed it regardless. "So... Let's get this party started..." she then paused. "Once they finally release me, that is..."

Once they reached Kara and John's house, John opened the door for the girls as they thanked him, and they quietly walked inside without communicating. The house seemed to glow, as well as everyone else. Katie didn't have a clue on how or why everything seemed so much brighter, or more joyful so to say.
When she met their father before they left, he seemed warm and friendly. He glowed just like their children. She was curious on how to glow like they were. Eventually she wanted to piece together and learn their secrets that let them continue on with life with an attitude like no other. She hoped that one day she would be like them. Now I just need to get through of meeting their mother. Hopefully she's as friendly as they seem to be.
As silence formed around everyone, Katie had noticed something different about this silence. It wasn't haunting or uncomfortable. It felt... peaceful in a way. It was very hard to describe it in words. It was like how you felt when you passed a test, or when you listened to a song that lifted your spirits off the ground. It was something she hoped that when she did find it, that it would surround her in comfort forever.
Katie glanced around everyone and couldn't help but raise her lips slowly but steadily. These were the people that have helped her. She didn't know why they did what they did, but she didn't need an explanation for this. Why should there be one? Wasn't it obvious at this point? Maybe she did belong somewhere.
Voices in her head wanted to prove her otherwise, but she was sick and tired of them telling her what she should do, think, or feel. What do they have to say about my life? It's my life after all. I'm allowed to be who I want to be, and do what I want to do.
The tiled floor was smooth and shiny. Katie felt like she could slip and slide around the house if she really wanted to. Her black flats were actually able to slide around the house, but they were firm from keeping her from slipping. Her blue leggings jeans were comfortable enough for Katie to do the splits if she wanted to, and she didn't have to worry about ripping them. Her white t-shirt and violet jacket flew in the wind like birds creating an arrow in the blue sunshine. Her red lipstick, brown eyes, and curly brown hair struck her features in awe. Her beauty shines without her even trying, but she didn't see that in her.
"Katie?" A feminine voice woke her up once more. Her cheeks lit up as she hid the color faster than she ever had before.
"Yeah?"
"You doing alright?"
"Yeah. I'm just looking around. You guys have an amazing house."
Kara giggled, "Oh, thanks. We try our best to keep it as clean as much and as long as we possibly can."
Before they could reply with anything else, John's brother; Jonah, appeared. To them, it felt like it was out of nowhere, "Hello ladies. How are you doing?"
"I'm alright, thank you," Katie replied shyly. She technically never met Jonah until this very moment. This very second. Just like always; which seemed to be a second nature kind of routine, she forced her walls back up so he couldn't get in, so no one ever could.
"That's good to hear. How are you liking it here so far?"
"I think this place is amazing. I've been enjoying myself so far, even though I haven't been here for that long yet. Thanks for letting me come over you guys."
"No problem, Katie. Anything for a wonderful guest."
Kara rolled her eyes and sighed, "Oh brother."
Jonah raised a brow, "Oh brother, what?"
"Don't tell me that you're trying to do what I think you're doing."
"Doing what? I'm not doing anything wrong, little sis. I just want to get to know Katie more. Just like you and John have been doing. Can't I get to know her too?" His voice was teasing and playful. He made it obvious.
Kara rolled her eyes once more, a sly smile escaped, "Don't act innocent with me, bro. I know what you're doing. You do this almost every time with women. You need to not rush into anything so fast. I just don't want you to be disappointed." Sometimes I don't get that guy. Sometimes he acts cold and calculated, other times he acts flirty, and even attempts to be "sweet". Whatever sweet means for him.
"I'm not rushing into anything fast. I'm just trying to be friendly. Is that so wrong?"
"No, I just know you too well to know what you are planning. Please, don't lie to me when we both know the truth."
He closed his eyes for a second and warm breath was released, doing his best not to snap back, "Alright, I'll stop. Either way, Katie, you're cool. See you two later." Just like that, he left.
"Sorry about him. He's weird sometimes."
"What was he doing exactly?"
"He... basically likes every girl he sees. Well... at least all the nice ones."
"Oh... um, I don't know what to say to that." A guy never liked me like that before. Weird... Eh, it's something that isn't important to me right now anyway. I wouldn't let it worry me all that much. Not right now at least.
Kara cleared her throat awkwardly, "So... want me to show you around the house?"
"Sure! That sounds like a great idea. Will it take long for a house size as this one?"
"Maybe a little, yes. But if you would like, we can take as long as we need to finish the tour."
"Alright, let's go then."

"Here's my room," Kara motioned to Katie softly.
Katie turned to where Kara was wanting her to look. She smiled, surprised of how big her room was. My room isn't nearly this spacious. I mean, I can walk back and forth in it without tripping on anything that could be in the way(unless if I trip over myself somehow). Though it still feels crowded, at least it does to me. Her room is so much better than mine. I'm slightly jealous, and I wish that I wasn't. She couldn't form any words for what she was feeling. She could only breathe out, "Wow..."
Kara giggled softly, "I take it that you really like my room, huh?"
Katie blinked, "How did you know?"
This only made Kara giggle more, "You're not the only one who has acted the way that you are acting right now, you know. Not every girl gets a room like this. I somehow ended up becoming lucky with my parents."
"Yeah, you definitely are a lucky girl," Katie smiled. "Your parents are lucky to have picked the perfect house for you and your family, and I haven't even seen the whole house, and I'm saying this!" Her voice rose higher in a dramatic blaze of color. The color brightened until her voice ended her thoughts.
Kara laughed softly, "Did anyone tell you that you're funny? Though, I mean it in a good way. There's honestly nothing wrong of being funny. It helps lighten the mood in my opinion."
Katie nodded as she thought about what Kara had just stated, "I guess you're right... It's weird how I don't normally think about stuff like this in the same perspective that you have. It could be that you're way more positive than I ever would be in a million years."
Kara grinned, "Naw! You're good. I don't expect you to think the same as I do. It's what makes us unique and special. If we didn't think differently, we wouldn't be able to experience and open our minds to different perspectives that we wouldn't have done on our own."
"You're very wise for your age, Kara," Katie complimented on her success.
Kara's cheeks went from a soft pink, to a cherry rose in seconds. She did her best to disguise it with her bubbly and enthusiastic personality, "Thanks, Katie! That's nice of you to think that of me. Though, you're probably wiser than I ever would be in a lifetime," she giggled, "and that's a true statement right there!"
Katie laughed softly, "And you said that I was the funny one," she couldn't help but tease her new friend. She noticed how she was already showing a different side to herself, and she wondered if she was personally feeling well. I don't normally act this joyous and excited with friends. I guess this is just something that I've kept to myself for so long, that I finally get to let go and be free for as long as I possibly can let it go for.
Kara laughed, "Hey! How dare you use my own words against me! That's some bittersweet irony that you got up your sleeve, Katie! I'll get my revenge one day, you'll see!" she couldn't help but laugh every time she spoke.
Katie fell onto the floor, clutching her stomach tightly. She was thankful that she caught herself before her body had landed in full force, which wouldn't do well for herself and if she took Kara with her. She started pounding the ground, unable to breathe properly.
To her astonishment, she started to burst out with a greater amount of laughter, seeing her reaction. She almost fell herself, but caught herself before she fell just like Katie had done not too long ago, "Why... do you... do this... to me, Katie!" Kara breathed out, slowly lowering herself to the ground, regardless of trying to stay standing. As she finally straight down on her bed, she heard a smack and felt a shock of pain crawl up her leg. She started laughing as she held her leg, "Ouch! How the heck did that happen?"
Katie laughed harder, "I don't know! It's your fault for whatever you did!"
"Maybe, but I don't even know what happened!" She continued on laughing. "It doesn't matter anyway. It already happened. I also can't breathe now!" She did her best to calm herself without becoming giggly for no reason at all.
As Katie watched Kara struggled, she too continued on laughing, "I can't breathe either! We need help!"
"Yes we do! Just don't think about laughing, and I think we should be fine."
"Alright. Let's try it."
Both girls attempt to think of something serious, depressing, or anything that didn't make them laugh easily. It took them awhile, and after a bunch of continuous laughing; but they finally came to a halt for good.
After a few minutes of rest, Katie's expression changed suddenly.
Kara looked at her new found friend concerned, "Is everything alright, Katie?"
She nodded, "Yeah, uh, everything is alright. I was just, uh, thinking of something. It's nothing important though."
Kara's interest sparked up, "Ooh, what was it about?"
Katie thought about it, I... actually don't remember... Weird..."
Kara giggled, "That's alright. It happens."
Katie's expression softened, "Oh, I remember now! I was going to ask you where John had ran off to."
"Oh, he actually had some friends invite him over to do something with them. I'm not sure if he actually accepted their invitation. I hope not. He promised to hang out with both us."
Katie nodded, "Yeah, but I'm not going to take it personally, or hold it against him if he chose to hang out with his friends instead of us."
Kara sighed, "Maybe, but it's rude of him to break his promise to us," she huffed, folding her arms.
"Did he actually promised us that he would spend time with us? There's a difference between promises and just agreeing to something."
Kara considered this with a sigh, "I guess you're right about that... It makes sense when you think about it. I don't he did promise. Maybe that's what I interrupted as."
Katie smiled warmly, "We might as well make the most of it. Think of it like a girl's night out or something. That might cheer you up."
Kara nodded, feeling better by Katie supporting her as best as she could, "Yeah, though do you know what would make me feel even better?"
Katie's curiosity rose, "What?"
"Playing some sort of video game, or a board game. If you're up for it, of course."
Katie giggled, "I'm up for anything really."
"That's good to know. C'mon, I'll show you where our console and tv are," she motioned Katie to follow.
