Chapter 7

I ended up walking around camp aimlessly. I know, boring, but it was all that I could do before breakfast. Then, after seeming like an eternity, the breakfast bell rang. I sighed in relief. I need to do something, and walking around aimlessly is not something. I was close to the dining pavilion, only a one minute walk to get there.

Once I got there, I sat down at my cabin's table and waited. Other campers were starting to arrive. For breakfast today was waffles and bacon. Picking up my fork, I looked down at the food. Now that I'm looking at it, I wasn't that hungry. I looked up at the rest of the campers here. Sighing, I look back down at my plate of food. I was twirling my fork in the waffles, breaking the waffle apart.

"Not hungry?" A deep voice said. Looking over I see Chiron walking over.

"No, not really." I reply, looking back down at my food. "I just am nervous for Cam." I add.

"That's clear," Chiron replies.

"What is that supposed to mean?" I question, puzzled.

"I can tell you and Cam are really close," Chiron answers. "I'm sure other campers can tell."

"Oh..." I looked down, embarrassed.

"You should eat, Nico. Enjoy the food while you're here." Chiron said.

"Okay." I reply dully. When I look up again, I see Chiron walking away. Sighing, I look down and start eating breakfast.

Minutes later, I was walking away from the dining pavilion, going back to my cabin to sleep. I needed it. That's when I heard a sound. It sounded like a deep motor sound. Like a plane or a car. But, it was coming straight down to camp. Looking up at it, I notice it's a dragon. A bronze dragon. Quickly doing a soul search, I find something unexpected. Leo was there. How...?

Seconds later the dragon lands on the floor and Leo jumps off. The minute he was off the dragon he was bombarded with hugs and smiles, mostly from his friends and others from the Hephaestus cabin. I decided to stay towards the back and wait for the crowd to die down. Once it did, I walked up to Leo. He was pulling something out of his bag.

"What is it?" I ask.

"It's Brick!!" He exclaimed, holding up a piece of brick. Wow... so creative Leo.

"Leo, why did you bring a brick back?" I questioned, irritated with his stupidity.

"Because I can talk!!" The brick yelled. Wait... the brick could talk? What????

"Brick! You shouldn't be so mean to people!" A slightly angry females voice said. Looking at her I do a quick soul search and figure out it was Calypso. Like the Calypso that was stuck on an island....

"So..." Leo said casually, ending the previous conversation. "It's good to see you Nico!" He starts.

"Yea, you to." I reply, happy to get off of the previous topic.

"Don't mind Brick... he's kinda a hothead. How have you been?" Leo asks.

"I've been fine," I state. "How about you and her?"

"Good." Leo replies, looking over at Calypso. In that moment I notice Nyssa was standing a little while away, waiting.

"I should go..." I say, ending the conversation. "There's other people who want to see you."

"Yea, okay. See you later!" Leo answers, waving at me when I start to walk away. I smile at that. It was good to have a friend back, even if one was still lost. I found one friend and lost another.

I ended up sleeping for a few hours. It's currently around noon and I need to go do something. Something to keep my mind off of Cam. But that didn't happen. Chiron wanted a meeting with all participants going on the quest and Leo and Nyssa. Groaning at the information from Percy I go to the Big House with him. Annabeth was already there and Leo and Nyssa are on their way.

"What is this meeting about?" I question Percy after we leave my cabin.

"It's about the quest. Chiron is thinking Leo could go in Cam's place." Percy states.

"Oh..." was all I said. I looked away from Percy.

"Look, I know you and Cam were close but doesn't it seem right for Leo to go considering how the prophecy talked about a flame specifically? And Leo can control flames, it just makes sense." Percy reasoned.

"Yeah, I know..." Was all I said in reply. Seriously, I get it. I just, still would have liked Cam to come on the quest. Yeah I know, selfish reasons but I can't help it, okay?

"We're here." Percy called, cutting through my thoughts.

"Okay," I reply while fast-walking up the steps towards the Big House. Let's get this meeting done and over with so I can at least do something I actually want to do.

-*~*- Later -*~*-

Nothing really important happened during the meeting. The only giveaways that are important is that Leo is coming with us on the quest. We are also leaving for the quest tomorrow at the crack of dawn. That leads me to what I'm currently doing, packing a backpack for the trip.

I already packed toiletries, an extra pair of clothes (in case I get wet or something), a few coins for Iris messages and money, and a dagger that's concealed in my backpack for emergencies. My styngion sword is concealed in my ring so I have at hand at all times. (Ha ha get it?) Okay, okay, back to packing.

Looking in my backpack, I go through everything I need. No, nothing else that I need to pack, I think. Well we can always get stuff on the quest.

Closing my backpack I drag it over to the end of my bed. I then continue to get clothes out of my dresser to change into tomorrow, so I'm not rushing. I pull out black ripped jeans with a plain gray shirt. I also get black, short socks out. After I'm done preparing for tomorrow, I glanced at the clock. I should go to sleep. I need the rest for the quest tomorrow.

I climb into bed, turn my alarm on, and close my eyes to drift off into sleep. Before I knew it, I was asleep.
