Chapter 4
It's been a few days since that night with Will. I don't even know what to call that night. The thunderstorm night? Yeah, I don't really know. It was the first time Will and I kissed.
There was, yet again, another head counselor meeting. It just ended. All they talked about is the prophecy and what to do about it. It was mostly about what to do with the one we lose and the two we find. The quest was approved by Mr. D, so the demigods of the prophecy will soon go.The quest will most likely start in a few days, possibly tomorrow.
It's the end of the first week of camp. Well, I was here for only one week. It was a nice day today too. The sun was shining, and it was warm. It is about midday, and right after the head counselor meeting. 'What should I do?' I question to myself. I should probably train or something. Maybe talk with Camom or Will. After a minute of thinking, I decide to talk with Camom. Maybe train with him for a while.
Walking over to his cabin, the Hephaestus cabin, I knock on the door. Nyssa opens it.
"What is it Nico?" Nyssa inquires.
"Hey, is Camom here?" I ask.
"Sure, let me get him." She replied. Calling over her shoulder, she yelled "Camom! Nico's here to see you!!" Turning back towards me, she states, "Camom's coming. Give him a minute."
"Ok," I reply. I wait there, outside the cabin for a minute or so. Camom eventually walks out. He is wearing the orange camp t-shirt with athletic shorts. He was also wearing a pair of bright red running shoes.
"Hey," I say, glad to see my friend.
"Hello," He says, looking over at me with a small smile on his face.
"Do you want to go train?" I question.
"Sure, and I'll beat you this time," He says, his smile broadening.
"Sure you will," I answer sarcastically. We kept talking and laughing all the way to the training area. Upon arriving, we look around for a spot that's open.
It was very crowded, and there were only a few spots open. Going over to one a little ways away from everyone else, Camom and I start to spar.
Deciding to use training swords, we got some. Taking out the swords, we start to spar. Getting in our stances, we start circling each other, looking for an angle to attack. I found one and lunged, aiming for his shoulder, Cam blocked. I then used that momentum from my previous attack to redirect my dull blade to aim at Camom's side. He jumped back at this attack. The sword is at my side again, I move it so it's in front of me, good thing to. In that moment Cam's blade was above my head, coming down. I brought my sword up to meet the attack. How I made that on time, I don't know. Demigod reflexes, I guess?
Our blades were together, screeching from the interaction. I then got the upper hand and pushed the sword back. The force knocked the sword, and Cam, back onto the grass. I stepped over him and placed the sword next to his head, pointed at the grass.
"You yield?" I inquire.
"Yes, I do." Camom replies. I move the sword away and hold out my hand for him to take. He takes it and I pull him up.
After a few seconds of catching our breath I start talking about our mock battle. "You rely on your strength. Strength won't win every battle. Yes, it may be a good resource, but you don't need just strength. You need to be able to interpret the others moves and be quick to make your own. You need speed, Camom." I look up at him when I say his name.
"Okay, I should work on that. Can I try again?" He questions.
"Of course you can. Let's try again." I answer, a smirk on my face. Cam picks his sword up again, and we start to circle one another. This is going to be fun.
-*~*- Later that Day -*~*-
We spent most of the day sparring. Camom was getting better, he was not relying on his strength as much and focused on using speed to be more unpredictable. He was probably using his head more and thinking the moves through to. Throughout sparring today he was close to beating me three times, but he made mistakes. Like, he had the upper hand and could have kicked my legs up from under me, but he aimed a slash at my torso instead. Doing that, he allowed me to dodge and swing around to hit him, with the dull side of the blade, on his midback. That pressure would have knocked him forward and let me beat him.
But, we were not sparring now. We were at the campfire. It was nine o'clock at night, and it was almost dark out. I was seated next to Will. Will was on my left with Camom next to him. There was no one on my right. The three of us were all smiling. Or at least Will and Camom were. I was looking at the fire thinking about topics other than camp songs. I was thinking about the prophecy. And Bianica. But mostly the prophecy. The head counselors and Chiron decided who would go on the second part of the quest. All people chosen were informed. He was going to announce it to the rest of the camp tonight.
In no time I heard Chiron call out, "Campers! I have a important announcement to make!" That hushed the campers. Everyone was faced towards Chiron, eager to hear the news. "I, and the head counselors, have thought over the new prophecy and have decided to issue a quest. We also have chosen the participants for the quest. Percy, Annabeth, Nico, and Camom will be going to the quest to find and restore the stolen consciousness to its rightful owner. The first part of the prophecy will have to wait until we find out who is lost and who is found." He called out, announcing the decisions to the whole camp.
