Chapter 29: Cultural Festival Preperations
Chapter 29: Cultural Festival Preparations
"Get chopping, Ms. Ayame—you're moving much too slow!"
"Chop." I say as I sliced a lettuce in half.
Mr. Tsukuru glared at me, "Drop the attitude and keep working; I don't know what's gotten into you but this needs to stop right now."
"Then why don't you do this instead, Mr. Tsukuru?!" I drop the knife and head out the door.
I caused a scene but I didn't care. All I cared about was getting my sword back and getting Satomi her brother back.
I lean against the wall in the hall, watching as students passed by me with decorations of all sorts for the room they were assigned to.
They're working so hard for this event.
I cross my arms and stare at the marble floor below.
How do they expect me to do all this when I got other things to think about? I should just walk out right now and drop the stupid play too!
I hear footsteps approaching but I ignore it and kept thinking to myself.
"You look like you're having a great day."
That voice belonged to Gohan. I didn't bother opening my eyes and stayed leaning against the wall with my arms and legs crossed.
"Ah, c'mon, lighten up, would ya?" Gohan speaks again, "We have to set everything up for the festival."
I stay quiet.
I can feel the boy lean forward. I open my eyes to meet his. It almost felt like a stare down. At the same time it looked like he was trying to see if the attitude I had right now was legitimate.
He leans back and scratches his cheek, "You're definitely serious right now."
"Hmph!" I whip my head to the left.
Gohan chuckles a bit then says, "I'm helping with the set up of the play that we're going to perform. Do you wanna check it out?"
More students walk by but doesn't bat an eye on either of us.
I sigh, "Fine, I'll check it out with you."
Gohan smiles then gestures his hand forward, "Lets get going then before you get caught being in that hall by your leader."
I lean off the wall and uncross my legs and arms, "I walked out on my own; They're not gonna do anything."
"What? Don't you think you should go back in then and apologize?"
Gohan's concern was always so cute. It actually made me smile despite the attitude I was in.
"It'll be fine; I'll apologize when I get back."
He sweatdrops, "I hope.. so."

The auditorium was huge and already decorated. The props were getting placed in position and the background was getting set up also. There were actually a lot of students in here and I noticed that the majority of them were from English class.
"Gohan!" Videl spots the two of us and approaches, "What took you so long? Did you bring what I asked?"
Gohan freaks out, "Gyah, I totally forgot about it."
"What?!" The pig-tailed girl responds, "What were you doing this whole time then?"
She then looks at me, "Aren't you suppose to be in the cooking room?"
"Don't worry about where I should be." I say with an attitude.
I still felt angry at her for being so nosy that day on the roof.
Gohan steps in front of me as if to stop any tension then says, "I'm sorry, Videl. I brought her here to check out the awesome set you've lead everyone to make so far."
"Oh why thank you Gohan. I really appreciate that."
Even I could tell this girl was beginning to get softer ever since being around the Son household.
I peek my head to the side of Gohan to study this girl more. We made eye contact but no one said anything. In fact this girl seemed as if my presence didn't bother her at all.
"Well, I'm gonna go back and get that thing you need, alright Videl?" Gohan then excuses himself but then gives me a 'behave yourself while I'm gone' look before he left.
So, just Videl and I stood not saying anything. We just looked at one another not saying anything.
Eventually, the girl spoken up first.
"You're not still mad at me for what happened the other day, are you?" She asks.
Now, I was still angry about it but what Mamoru did was even more occupied on my mind.
"Not as much," I tell the truth, "But I'd rather not talk to you right now."
Videl didn't seem fazed at all with what I had to say. Instead she apologized! She actually apologized.
"You can't be serious right now?" I raise an eyebrow.
"Listen, this play is going to happen soon whether we like it or not. I just think we should settle our differences so we can perform at our best, got it?"
That was her response. It was a bit bratty but she had a point. If we didn't get our act together before the play, the tension between us would be written on our faces and the audience would be able to sense it.
"All right, you're right. I apologize too." I cross my arms.
Videl observed me for any type of indication that I was insincere in my apology. Soon enough, Gohan came back with a whole load of props and costumes.
"Gohan, good you're back." She was happy to see the guy.
"Yeah, I got everything you needed and more."
"Great! Well done!"
Gohan nods then looks around, "So, where would you like me to put everything, Videl?"
"Hmm, lets see..." The girl scans the room then seems to land her eyes on the stage, "Just leave them up there."
"On it!" Gohan then heads for the stage.
Again, Videl and I were alone.
"I accept your apology by the way, but being as I am in charge of every activity going on in this school, I'm gonna have to ask you to head back to the activity room you were assigned to." Videl nonchalantly says.
"All right then, I'll just go back to that cooking stuff." I turn around and head for the door.
"Thank you." The pigtailed girl gives her gratitude.
"Yep, you're welcome." I say back just before sliding the door to the auditorium closed.
Once in the hall, I walked very slowly to my class, but not without thinking about Videl's behavior.
Why was she so sweet? Just before she started visiting Gohan and I, I swear she had a somewhat nasty attitude at times, but now she can keep her composure to things that would usually irritate her.
I then cup my chin.
Maybe she was just acting this way cause she's the one who has to make sure everything is in order for the festival. Maybe she's doing it cause she wants to make a good impression on everyone?
My class was just down the hall now and Mr. Tsukuru was standing out, glaring daggers into my eyes as I approached the room.
"Ms. Ayame, you know how important everyone's help in this festival is! I should have you suspended for leaving this room." He scolds me.
"You're over exaggerating," I talk back, "You can't just suspend me just cause I walked out the room for less than ten minutes."
"Oh, we'll see about that, young lady. Just get back in that room and help with baking the desserts. You were doing fine the first hour but then caught an attitude the second."
"Whatever." I walk into the room.
"What?" Mr. Tsukuru responds quickly, "Learn some manners, young lady."
I sigh heavily.
Why did I have to be assigned to this teacher? I wanted to help with Mr. Crayer's group. I'm in that play so why am I one of the very few in my english class not helping out in the auditorium? That makes no sense.
